I had an amusing moment today. I had to look up a command that I
have not used in quite some time. The command was STORE!

When I were a lad (dBASE II 2.02), STORE was a necessity. There
was no assignment statement besides STORE. Mind you, that was nearly
a quarter century ago.

I hold my hand up to say that I use this command frequently, particularly
when initialising a number of variables to the same value, normally zero.
There again I was not a lad but an adult when dBase II came out so once the
knowledge went into the brain cells RLOCK() occurred, it became read-only
and refused to be updated.

It's called long-term memory. That also made it difficult to forget old
stuffs to make room in your brain for new stuffs. :)

I remember as well
I was living in Chatsworth, CA at the time and I dropped down to Culver City
(?) to pick up my copy of dBase II (around number 50 if I recall correctly).
The "office" was a desk in part of a warehouse with one part time lady.
Wayne still had his full time job at ?? (can't seem to remember, some
aerospace firm ?)
Prior to this "revolution", we did everything in Assembly and "TDL Basic"
(since it could call machine language routines)
I remember setting up a Pool Room on a TRS 80 (the little one) and it even
turned the lights on the tables on and off.!

STORE is actually one of darned few commands that hasn't changed in all
these years. I remember being shellshocked in FPD 2.0 at how many commands
had new optional clauses, etc., and that continues to this day. <g>

I *think* store does expression evaluation so it's very useful.
cVarName = "addr"
store "" to (cVarName + "ess")
? address
...should work

Not quite. I think that there used to be a special form for
setting the date.

Truly unchanged? EJECT. I can not come up with any others, but
there might be a few.

Love "Store" still use it...
When it was first introduced... What a breakthrough... no more setting the
same values to individual variables...Cannot remember who had it first,
dBase or Fox.
I started with Assembler, Fortran, Cobol, Basic, dBaseIII Plus, Clipper to
compile... Then a friend hands me a floppy with something called FoxBASE..
its own compiler...Wow... never looked back

Definitely one of the nicer features in Fox, made generalization easy
without the numerous hazards of macro expansion.
