    - Weird file in use problem Hi, We have a VFP8 SP1 app which is running sitting on a network share, 22 Windows XP users each access this application from this network share. This application has been running fine for the past 2 years and then all of a sudden (past 2 months randomly) users have started complaining they can't get access into some forms. They get 'File in use' error and it is always the one 'Members' table which gives the error. We have some debug information which writes out to a log what users have that "members" table open at the time the user gets the error. Now my understanding is that this error happens when the file is exclusively locked, correct? Our logging information shows that the Members table is open on multiple other workstations while this person is getting this error. So how can more than one person have it open and are not getting the "file in use" error. Where as this person is unable to open it. It is not always the same person that has the problem, so it is not machine related as far as we can tell. These forms open up other network tables too, and they never cause problem, so I don't believe it is network related. The server is not showing any errors for connectivity problems either. So random machines, random users, but always the same table. Any ideas what could be going on, its like the file can only be opened by 5 people and the 6th person who tries to open it is getting denied. Is there anything which could cause this behaviour? After selecting the PDF writer from the printer dialog box for the first statement, I want the program to print the remaining 100 (or so) statements to PDF without user intervention. But with this construct... firstStatement = .T. SELECT Members SCAN .... process member's transactions promptClause = IIF(firstStatement, 'PROMPT', '') REPORT FORM Statement NOCONSOLE TO PRINTER &promptClause firstStatement = .F. ENDSCAN ... the program prints the first statement to PDF, as selected in the dialog box, but the remaining statements output to the default printer instead of PDF.     - Custom Paper in XP Hi, I am looking for an API function of some sort where I can create a custom paper size in an XP environment (mimics the "Create a new form" in "Print Server Properties" of the "Printers and Faxes"). It will be easy to deploy apps to several XP machines if the creation of a new "form" or custom paper size would be done in codes rather than creating it on the client's PC one by one.     - Foxpro Database Upsizing We are considering migrating some FoxPro database tables to a different database engine such as MS SQL or PostgreSQL. What would be the advantages of going to MS SQL as apposed to PostgreSQL for instance. Mainly I am looking for any coding advantages if there are any ie: native foxpro database calls in foxpro not having to be modified. Any comments or resources would be greatly apperciated as we need to find the best solution possible to utilize the Foxpro code we have but migrate to a better back-end database than the FoxPro database.     - FoxPro 2.6 on Windows XP Hi. Got a client getting new XP machines. Still wants to run FoxPro 2.6 for DOS and FoxPro 2.6 for Windows. Ran into the following issues: 1) Created a command prompt desktop shortcut icon. Very little available memory in FoxPro for DOS. Don't see any memory option in the shortcut properties. 2) Created a batch file desktop shortcut icon. Plenty of memory in FoxPro for DOS, but comes up in 43 line mode when set to full screen (changing the shortcut property font size does nothing). 3) FoxPro 2.6 for Windows. Sending output directly to printer lpt1 (???) causes general protection fault. Sending output to normal spooler (?) goes to local printer, regardless of lpt?.     - Landscape output Hi. I have a VFP6 application, with manually generated reports that sometimes need to be printed landscape. Question. Is there any way to force PRTINFO(1) = 1 for my report then back to 0? Couple of months ago I was given a solution of using =SYS(1037) and KEYBOARD "{tab}{tab}{tab}{tab}a{enter}" CLEAR to switch to landscape. Once I figured out I needed to first SET PRINT NAME to the desired printer first, works pretty good. But I've seen situations where KEYBOARD "{tab}{tab}{tab}{tab}o{enter}" CLEAR didn't return the user to portrait, so it's not foolproof.     - Determining record position in index Given a cursor or table that has a certain index order active, is there an easy way to determine at what position in the index the record pointer sits? For example, if the record pointer is pointing to the third record when in the index order, can I quickly determine that the position is 3?     - removing classes from a project HELP...i removed some classes from one file, and they were removed from another project. This is a large application that i took over. i was troubleshooting it by removing classes from a copy of it...and then i built the application...as soon as it would run without errors, i would know which class to work on...or replace....but it seemed to remove the classes from the production application too! is this the way it is, or did i do something wrong?     - Working with Grids. i created a Grid, once the user updates or changes data in a Record, in the afterrowchange i am appending that data to a 2nd table. if the user goes back up to the record they were just on then moves over it, i will again place that record into the 2nd file. i know this sounds simple but id like your thoughts. id like to remove the changed record from the list after i append so it wont be used again but dont know how to do that. does anyone have a better idea for me to try? thanks in advance.     - PLEASE HELP ----- XP and FOXPRO Currenty i have purchased a new computer with 1 gig of memory and run under XP professional. I have an application develop in DOS Foxpro 2.6. Everytime i'm in the edit mode to chance the screen or report on the project my system is hang up. I check the task manager, it's said the task is still running. I've note that there is a NTVDM.EXE took over half of my memory (+600,000K). It was working fine under window 2000. It's only give me problem when i chance my OP to the XP. Can someone help me how to resolve this problem ? Appreciate for all the advice and hope to hear from you soon.     - vb6 exe creation needs foxpro7 installed to run with fp database A small program that only reads fpxpro7 database (dbf file) from a directory using ADO connection string cannot be run if compiled on a machine without foxpro installed. In order to run, the exe needs to be compiled in VB6 WITH foxpro7 installed. Actually, ADO connection string is not hardcoded. It can be configured from my application with ado connection wizard. naturally, if foxpro does not exists on my VB development computer, I cannot build a connectionstring for foxpro database. but on client's computer, as foxpro installed, user can configure it according to use foxpro db. According to this, if my program needs to use foxpro, I have install faxpro to my development computer. if it needs oracle, do I need to install oracle in my computer ? what's wrong here.     - VFP8 won't install, won't run VFP 8 no longer runs on my box. It generates c0000005 on startup. I have deleted all foxuser files, cleared config.fpw. I uninstalled it with the installer, and that worked fine. I tried to re-install it, and it gives an error, so now I can't re-install it. I copied files from CD, which I have done before sucessfully, set them to read/write, but it still gives c0000005 on startup. VFP9 works fine on the same machine, other apps work fine AFAIK.     - PC Install problem on certain Versions of Win XP with FoxPro 6.0B I have been using PC-Insall for years now, and lately I am unable to install successfully on certain versions of Win XP. The message states that the system file is not suitable for using MS-DOS or Microsoft Applications. Any ideas on what could be causing this message. Maybe autoexec.nt file settings?     - delayed write errors We use vfp8. In the last few months we keep getting delayed write error messages. Data will be lost. We have lots and lots of free space.     - Is the paste offset user-definable? Through the years, I've gotten used to the fact that, in the VFP IDE, when you copy a control and paste it, the pasted copy is 8 pixels lower and to the right from the original location. Often, I am copying and pasting controls from one page or container to another and I want to retain the original location. Currently, I just automatically hit the left arrow 8 times and the up arrow 8 times to place the copy. I was wondering if this 8-pixel offset can be changed somehow.     - Reports 'suprpcol'? what is it? I've had a report for which fields just won't print on the first page no matter what the data or 'print when' settings are. When I open the report as a table the only difference between fields that print and don't is that the column suprpcol=3 on fields that print and 0 on fields that don't. If I hack the frx by manually changing suprpcol to 3 and save it then run the report those fields magically appear on the first page again.     - VFP9 report data environment display bug I have a report data environment with many tables and many relations (> 20 tables up to 5 levels deep). Works fine in report data environment. However when I save the data environment to a dataenvironment class and reuse it on another report, the layout of the tables in the data environment is lost. They just appear in a straight line across the data environment designer. This in its self is not the problem, just an annoyance. The problem is that at some point, I can not get to the tables on the far right side of the data environment designer. The relation lines go off the right side and no matter what I do, I an not get to the tables to reorganise them. I tried resizing the form every which way, resiizing the screen resolution.     - OLE Automation and Window handles I am working with automating some barcode label software in VFP 9. One of the OLE functions is used to draw a preview image of the barcode label in an image object. The parameter of the function requires a handle to the control that I want to paint the image in. This can be accomplished in Visual Basic by using the hWnd property of the image control. VFP does not have this functionality that I am aware of for controls. 1.) Is it possible to use this method of painting in an image control in VFP 9? 2.) I have a nightly job which sometimes fails to run because a user stayed in the application and the nightly job can't get exclusive access to the files which need to be updated. I have the following questions: 1. Is there any way for me to get VFP to tell me which user has the file open? 2. Is there a way (that works) to have applications terminate at a specific time? I tried putting a timer on the main form but if the user stays in a sub-form, it never gets back to the main form (or the main form timer fires but can't close the app because a sub-form is open). Do I need a timer on each form? Do I need to write a routine like: FOR EACH OPEN FORM OpenForm.Close() NEXT If that is the way to go can someone tell me the actual code that will do this? It has some ActiveX controls, and also I use several merge modules After installing, application works fine if I run it logged as Admin But if I try to run it logged on a limited account (which is member of users group only), I get an error, Class not registered (when application try to create an ActiveX object instance) I had another problem early, with write access in application root folder (because it is installed in Program Files), but I manage to handle it, by setting Permissions for install folder: I created an entry Users, and give it all rights. I try the same for ActiveX I use in my project (setting full permissions for them individually to Full) but still don't work Can anyone give me a suggestion howe to handle it?     - Report Form xx PROMPT vs. Default Printer Hi All, Ever experienced super small 1/4 size printing on a report? In circumstances where you use the PROMPT and NOPAGEEJECT options on the REPORT FORM command so that the user can select the printer desired and so that a subsequent report will be part of the same print job, the subsequent report will always use the default printer driver no matter what printer the user selected. IOW, the PROMPT option of the report command only effects that specific report and not all the reports that are part of the same print job. Example: REPORT FORM A1 TO PRINTER PROMPT NOPAGEEJECT NOCONSOLE REPORT FORM A2 TO PRINTER NOCONSOLE If the user selects any printer other than the default when prompted the two reports above that are both part of the same print job will be printed to the same printer using different printer drivers for the first and second reports. (Keeping them part of the same print job is really handy when printing to a PDF file) . Using the wrong printer driver for a report going to a printer can give you strange results. Is there a way to force multiple reports that are part of the same print job and all going to the same printer to use the printer driver that is related to the PROMPT selection made on the first report? I have resorted to placing a sys(1037) in code just before my report rather than using the PROMPT option on a REPORT FORM command, to change the default printer. It is a kludge and does not present as nice a user interaction as the prompt option but it works. This seems like a minor bug to me... You will need to use the Adobe Acrobat SDK - thats what i did!
