    - Private Data for a function Hello and thanks in advance for the help. If I design a form that uses a private data session, I open and close the tables within the form and everything in the default data session is left alone. Is there an easy way to do the same thing for a function? I know I can USE AGAIN with a new ALIAS and then remember to clean up but is there a simple way to tell VFP that a function uses its own data that is separate from anything that might happen to call it?     - Comment macro or Intellisense script I'm writing a code documenting automation routine & I need a routine that will take a highlighted block of code or text and prefix each line with a short character string of my choosing ... like the Comment/Uncomment options on the Format context menu.     - Coming from FPW 2.6 I have migrated an old FPW 2.6 application to VFP 9 just as it was, that means, without any change in code. So, the prg are full of @GET. I face now the problem that the command buttons do not appear in grey as it was in FPW 2.6, but they appear almost with white background, and since the main Fox screen also has white background, the buttons are hard to distinguish, since the contrast is too low between the two whites.     - VFP 9: Objects: Call by Reference / Call by Value SET UDFPARMS does not cover the case of a parameter being an object. I can not think of where else to check. (@ does not do it <G>.) I need to pass an object to another object. In the processing that the second object does, the first object's state will normally change. The object pointed to by the parameter will not. I realised that I am not sure how to do this. (The first object is a data collector. I can not instantiate the first object in the second object as the first object's lifetime may have to be more than one second object lifetime.)     - Declare cursor in init doesn't work? Hi, i use vfp9, with a mysql database. Mostly i use cursoradapters. In one form i want to build my cursor interactively with parameters provided from within the form. To declare the cursor on forehand i call the next line in the init of the form: SQLEXEC(m.lnConn, "select * from klanten where klant_id = 0", "curKlanten") apperently this is not correct as i keep getting an error that the cursor is not found.     - Access a vb.net DLL from VFP 8.0 I have a DLL written in vb.net that works great when it is called from another vb.net program. My problem is that I can't get it to work from VFP.     - Copy To and memo fields? Hi, I'm writing an application to run on a Palm PDA using Satellite Forms and VFP 9.0. I have a problem in that SF doesn't support memo fields but it does support large character fields. I'm pulling my data from a SQL 2000 Server backend with remote views and then using the COPY TO... with the FOX2X file type. The reason here is that SF supports dbase file formats for it's tables. My question is, is there a way to convert a memo field to a large character field? I believe that the largest a character field can be in VFP is 256 characters which isn't enough for the data I'm trying to move around. Does this limit exist for dbase files too? In SF I can create a character field of over 4000 characters. I wonder if I can include a CAST() function in my COPY TO command, I'm guessing not. Any suggestions?     - top level form menu I have a menu on a top level form. When I select the menu pads with the mouse all works as expected. However, I'm having difficulty getting that top level form menu to activate on an ALT+ key sequence. Example: The \<File menu pad appears normally and appears that an ALT+F would activate it, but it does not.     - Editbox lost focus issue I can't reproduce the following 100% of the time, but it seems to me that if I exit an editbox in one of my forms by clicking on a listbox (and/or perhaps elsewhere) on the same form, the underlying tables are not always updated properly. The update is accomplished via sql statements in the lostfocus() event of the control. There is no controlsource and the fields in question are character memo fields. The lb does drive the table that stores the data, but I can verify that this is not a case of the data being written to the wrong record.     - Monitor Network Activity Does anyone know of a way to monitor network activity to a specific IP Address programmatically? Hereâ??s the situation. We have an IP Phone system in the office (Itâ??s a Mitel system if that makes any difference). Our computers are all connected to our phone via network cables, which is then connected to our network. Each phone has its own IP (i.e. 10.10.2.x) Basically, Iâ??m looking for a simple way to check to see if someone is on their phone. We could become certified with Mitel to develop software for our phone system, but that requires training, time, money, etc... and it is probably overkill for what we currently need. So I figured if we could just pole the network activity to the phone, that would probably indicate to us that the phone is in use. Any ideas on how this can be accomplished?     - converting from vb Hi there, need some help here. I'm developing a program to extract data from a smartcard. The sample program from the development kit that come with the smartcard reader was develop using VB. I'm having problem in getting the picture from the smartcard into my vfp form. In VB, the code is : Set Image1.Picture = MyKad1.Photo In my vfp form, I put Thisform.Image1.Picture=MyKad1.Photo but when the code is run, got error message, invalid data.     - VFP 9 SP 2: How is It Running? I installed VFP 9 SP 2 not too long ago. Since then, I have observed a number of crashes. SP1 was stable. I write this as I just had to delete foxuser.* AGAIN. This time, it was because I could not modify a table that I needed to change for debugging. I would simply start VFP, do my normal setups, open the table, locate the row, browse, change the value in question, save, and BAM! C0000005 everytime! Deleting foxuser.* got rid of the problem. Rebooting did not. And how have your VFP 9 SP 2 experiences been? Is anyone using it? (Is it really my turn to be bleeding edge, or is everyone else doing fine with it?)     - VFP 9 SP2: Command Window ?Bug Twice now, my command window has become messed up. Normally, there is space between the leftmost character in each line and the left frame of the window. This has disappeared. Commands still work fine, but the cursor is no longer visible when it is at the beginning of the line. Since I frequently repeat previous commands, this is bothersome. Deleting foxuser.* does get rid of the problem. It also gets rid of my useful settings. At least I have not had to lose a bunch of debugger settings. This has happened only since switching to VFP 9 SP 2. I have not changed the general way that I use VFP since switching to 9. Am I missing a setting? Is there a workaround?     - VFP 9: Maximum String Length According to the VFP 9 docs under "Visual FoxPro System Capacities", the maximum string length is 16777184. What is the true maximum, and where is it documented? Adding characters ten at a time, I created a string of 40 million characters. If I start with one character and double, I get an error 1903 (String is too long to fit.) after 16777216 (2^24). (This is odd since twice that is less than 40 million.) If I start with one character and double up to 16777216, then add 1 MB at a time, I get an error 43 (There is not enough memory to complete this operation.) after 383778816 (over 1/3 GB). Since it is possible to create some very long strings and yet get errors on shorter strings, what are the rules for l-o--n---g strings?     - Illegal regursion in triggers I know there's a way to do this, but I just don't remember. I have a table with a timestamp field which contains the datetime() of the last update and I want it to be updated whenever any change is made to a record and regardless of any table buffering.     - Update SQL problem I'm having some troubles with an update statement, using VFP 9, and it's driving me buggy, might someone see what I've incorrectly done? I have two tables: Master - has dozens of fields, approximately 10000 records Corrections - Has five fields (item, serial, firstrent, origcost, acquired), 500 or so records The last three fields in the Corrections table need to be changed in Master, based on the combination item+serial matching in Master, so I know there are about 500 records that will be updated. When I use the code below, I get 0 records updating. I suspect it has to do with my Where clause, and have tried many different derivations. Can someone help?     - Trimming combobox length display I have a an array populated from a table [tablename(cid c(8), cdesc(100))] and bind it into a combobox as the rowsource. The problem that I have is the length of the display when using the combo box is showing the whole 100 characters even I only have a maximum 30 characters from my table.     - Assigning colors to grid cells I wish to display a series of change records in a grid on a form. They are ordered by change date, so that the newest record is on top. I wish to change the color of any cell who's value is different than the cell below it, but am not able to make the grid work this way.     - VFP 9: Command Window Display I have run into an bothersome difference in VFP 9. I am debugging an program and have a browse in the middle to look at a generated cursor. The command window now displays over the browse. This knocks out using a full-screen browse which I occasionally need. If I click on the command window to move it, I can, but at the cost of the browse disappearing. Is there a setting that I am missing?     - Printing All, I am trying to get FP 9 to print using a print preview component that consists of an ocx wrapper for a dll. The dll will not register as an activex in FP, even though it is registerable with regsvr32. I can get all the way through defining the page layout, and send copy to the printer. At that point nothing appears to happen. No job in the printer object in the control panel, no print preview. I see this in "What's New if FP 8" (haven't got around to 9 yet): "You still can't print reports from within a dll-based vfp com object." I installed VFP9 Sp2 and I had problem with BROWSE command, so I
reinstalled VFP9 and Sp1. Now the BROWSE command is OK, but I cannot create a
report.
I have the following error when I want to insert a new field: Variable
"VPOS" is not found.
Before, I did not have any problem with my VFP9 Sp1.
Could anyone help me?

This is one of the issues, if you have limited access rights
to the VFP home() folder. Give yourself the full rights
on that folder and the problem is gone.

so full access is marked/checked
in the properties of the home() folder
in the security tab for your account?
