The Fox team at Microsoft didn't want to be restricted to the release cycle
of the .NET group. They even asked user groups if they wanted VFP to tag
along with Visual Studio or keep it's own pace. Most voted for the latter
option.

I have a paricularly grim opinion. I think because VFP is not part of MS long
term strategy. Hey before you start, lets discuss this in ten years! I think
VFP is where it is because of its users, not because MS is particularly
interested!

Nice source of information.

I also thought the long time between vfp6 (vs6) and vfp7 was longer than
the usual 18 month, because they tried to fit vfp into .net, but it didn't fit
in many aspects, because of the very different IDE and aspects like
macrosubstitution.
