    - anti-spam isn't working My anti-spam filtering isn't working. I'm running Ex 2007 std. On my CAS/Hub Transport server I have some Event ID 1022 errors Anti-spam agents are enabled, but the list of internal SMTP servers is empty. If there are any MTAs between this server and the Internet, populate this list by using the Set-TransportConfig cmdlet in the Exchange Management Shell.     - denying access to public folders... We have several security "groups" configured on our SBS 2000 domain. For some if these groups, I want to prevent access to just a few of the various public folders we have and for other groupls I want to prevent ALL access to public folders . Is there an easy way to prevent a "group" from accessing a public folder? It looks like rights have to be specified on a per user basis... This is very tedious and I am sure there must be an easier way! I even tried setting permissions on the folders directly in the Exchange System Manager but that didn't seem to affect anything at all. In my outlook 2002 client, when I right click a public folder and select properties->permissions, it does not show any user groups there to choose from - only individual users... Help!     - Exchange Wake up on LAN Hello, We are having lot of power issues and sometimes our servers shutdown in the middle of the night. Here is something I want to implement. We have 2 servers AD server and exchange server 2003 std. I want to change the boot options for AD server to Restore on AC power loss and exchange to Wake up on LAN. I will put a script to turn on the exchange on AD server startup. (I assume that AD server should be available for exchange before it is powered up for proper operation. I turned both at the same time and exchange did not work properly) How do I run the script without someone actually have to log into the AD server. Can a script be run without logging on.     - Routing Group Master Deleted We were setting up a new network for a client. We had a server called xyz-exchange. We installed Exchange 2007 on it, but never went live. This is a new exchange implementation, so no other servers were out there. The server crashed due to some other issues. We rebuilt it from scratch since there was no data on it. The only difference is we renamed it xyz-exch. So, the name changed. We reinstalled Exchange 2007 on it. I believe that we have everything working, however, when I run the Best practices Analyzer, I get a message(error) that states the routing master has been deleted. When I expand the message, it is pointing to the old server name, xyz-exchange and not the new xyz-exch. So, I guess my first question is how do I resolve this error? Is there something in AD pointing to it or is it in the exchange box? My other question is that why do I even have a routing master since I am not connecting back to an Exchange 2003 box?     - Exchange 2000 Appointment Issue We are currently running Exchange 2000 on Windows 2000 and using GFI as our mail gateway. After the time change on March 2nd when we receive an appointment from an external server the appointment books for an hour later.     - mailstore missing from recovery list I'm trying to recover a mailstore using the RSG, but when I go to add the mailstore to it, the one I need is missing, but the other 2 mailstores from the same SG are listing, along with all other mailstores from the other SG's.     - Can I add and Exch2007 Hub Transport to Exchange 2003? I already have both Exchange 2007 and Exchagne 2003 running in the same Org. I am wondering if I can use the Ex2007 Hub Transport rules if all the other servers are Exchange 2003?     - Outlook 2007 Prompting for Password I'm setting up a Windows Server 2008 / Exchange 2007 SP1 lab, and running into a couple of challenges. My DC is Windows 2008, almost default configuration. I then brought up a separate 2008 server, and loaded Exch07SP1 on it, default install options. I have another 2008 server acting as the client with Outlook 2007 installed on it. When I open Outlook 2007 for the first time after setting up the Exchange profile, it always prompts me for the username and password. I think this has something to do with the auto discovery service or OAB. If I cancel this prompt, I can use Outlook just fine. When I schedule a new calendar event, I can't see any free/busy data. Now, if instead of canceling that initial password prompt, I enter in my username/password, I can see the free/busy calendar data, however, I get a certificate warning. I'd like the new Outlook 2007 with Exchange 2007 to behave like Exchange/Outlook 2003 and stop prompting legitimate domain users for login credentials when Windows should be supplying them automatically. Is this a known bug with Exchange/Outlook 2007? This is as close to an out-of-the-box setup I could get. I've loaded up this lab several times, all with the same results. I've scoured around, however I can't find any concrete explanations of why this is happening, and/or how to solve it. Any help much appreciated, Phil Tag: System error ??? Tag: 684458

After much reading I believe that an issue I had with one of the drives in this RAID 5 array that caused me to reseat the one physical drive and then allow the array to rebuild may have caused this corruption. I will run a consistancy check on the virtual drive this evening. Then I am planning on creating a second information store on the same server and move all the folders and mailboxes to the new information store and deleting the old information store after everything is done being moved. Now the questions.... 1. Does this seem like the most painless approach? 2. Will this effect the OWA and HTTP over RPC clients I have accessing the server? 3. When I try to look at the properties for any of my public folders I get a pop-up telling me that SSL Certificate server name is incorrect, ID# c103b404 from the Exchange System Manager. I did find a MS Support article # 324345 telling me to clear the "require SSL check box in the Exadmin root in IIS. Will this effet anything else and is it a safe practice? 4. After I have all of my mailboxes and folders moved to the new IS is it okay to just delete the original IS in Exch. System Manager?     - Scheduling Information Missing Hello, A couple of our users are having some odd issues with outlook 2003 w/ Exchange 2007. When you create a new appointment and invite a resource the person can most of the Free/Busy times but some do not display. It seems like only certain meeting times are not displayed but most show up.If you look at the resources calendar it shows up. I have - Checked to make sure the users are not showing the time as Free - Made sure that the missing meetings had the 15 minutes to be updated even though they were created weeks prior - Given the users full access to the resources calendar so they can view it as a shared calendar - Cleaned out the users Free/Busy cache by running the command "outlook /Cleanfreebusy" The only thing that seems to "work" is to give the user full access then open that resources shared calendar, then open a meeting request as the resource. Look at the scheduling tab. Close without saving. Create a meeting request as that user. This seems to finally load the correct time for that day or meeting. This does not work for future events though, if you look 2+ days past some items still do not show. This worries me because I can not do this for all users. A couple things to note: The resource was created as a user in Exchange 2003. There is a person in charge of accepting and rejecting the invites to that user/ resource. This causes trouble when looking at the schedule then scheduling meetings before the invite is accepted. We recently upgraded to Exchange 2007 from 2003. Clients are still using Outlook 2003.     - Pub Sub-Folder Permissioning When there's a public folder with a whole bunch of sub folders and I have to add a new person to be able to see all those folders, is there an easier way than having to go into the permissions of every single sub folder and set the permissions individually? The top level folder doesn't have a way to apply a new permission to all sub folders, that I can see. When there's hundreds or even thousands of sub folders, this can become a nightmare.     - Exchange Selective Journaling- Ivasoft- Anyone have it working? We have a SBS 2003 server with Exchange 2003 SP2. We have followed the instructions given by ivasoft but nothing flows into the archive mailbox. The user we setup has full rights to the mailbox store with the mailbox we want to journal and is the account we use for the identity. It is a member of the domain admins, domain users, exchange domain servers groups . I have contacted Ivasoft to get the response: "Really strange. Try to uninstall Selective Journlaing completely and set built-in Exchange Journaling. Will it work for you?" Well of course it won't as we need to use selective journaling :) Any ideas?     - Message Tracking center searching wrong server After a server crash we moved Exchange to a new server. All works fine, except when I try to track a message in Message Tracking Center. When I put the name of the (new) server in the "server" field and click "Find Now" the name changes to that of the old server, and no messages are found.     - error sending mass emails (100 recipients per email) via outlook 2 Ours sales people have attempted to send mass emails of 100 recipients each (about 3 of them in a row).. Are there any reasons to tell them to not do this.. ie: greylisting fears etc.. I'm concerned because there are some SMTP errors in the log that are a little alarming.. What is also the best site to check to make sure we aren't on a spammer list of some kind.. My other concern is that we are still experiencing an issue we had years ago, which i thought was fixed recently, as comcast went to a true static ip here.. previously.. if emails were sent from our comcast connection (and not the other verizon one).. they would fail to reach their targets.. so we always had to make sure we sent on port2.. this hasnt really been an issue.. here are some examples of errors in the log file: Error Code: 10060, Error Message: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time Lots of 550 user unknowns (i'm sure this is just a wrong target address).. 452 insufficient system storage (i'm guessing this is just the target address's mailbox is full) 451 Your message has been greylisted, please try again later", "250 You are about to try to deliver spam.     - creating address lists I understand that global address list is for typically addresses that are in your domain but is it possible to create a list of people that may be across the world with different email accounts but would be available to all users. For example when you click the address list icon the global list appears and your contact list appears. but could you create a list of addresses from different people and have that list appear to all.     - Calendar spam! We have exchange 2003 with the latest service pack and GFI MailEssentials anti-spam. As of this week we have been getting calendar spam! It seems to be coming somehow from Google Agenda... getting through SMTP servers and making it into our exchange users's calendars with out any kind of confirmation that an appointment was added... right now I have 23 "invitaitons" from some spammer asking for my FedEx account information for them to send me $1.2 million... *rolls eyes* is there ANYTHING I can do to stop external calendar objects from getting into our exchange calendars from outside our network? thanks!     - Disabled accounts in distribution group Is this normal behavior? I have some distribution groups that are actually security groups. Because of this I have template accounts set up (that are members of these groups too hence the template..) but they are disabled. However, everytime someone tries to send out an email it to the group they get the NDR because it tries to send a mail to the template accounts....any way to stop this? other than giving those template accounts and email address and dropping all the messages from it or something. Hi, I'm getting this error: Event ID 514: Source: ESE Category: Logging/Recovery Information Store (7468) Exchange Users: Log sequence numbers for this instance have almost been completely consumed. The current log generation is 932000 (0x000E38A0) which is approaching the maximum log generation of 1048559 (0x000FFFEF), there are 116559 (0x0001C74F) log generations left to be used. To begin renumbering from generation 1, the instance must be shutdown cleanly and all log files must be deleted. Backups will be invalidated. What happens when it runs out of numbers?     - replying from shared mailbox as user problem Hi everyone, I have done extensive searching on google for a resolution to this issue, and have only found one other person with this problem, and he hasn't had an answer. So here goes: We have recently set up an exchange 2003 server, with Outlook clients. We have a shared mailbox called sales@company.com all users in our organisation have full mailbox rights to this mailbox. They then open the mailbox from within their outlook client. However if they reply to a mail from this sales mailbox, the reply comes from sales@company.com. we want it to come from the actual user that is replying. Is this possible? and how can it be setup?     - Mailbox movement between exchange server I have installed new exchange server 2003 in my environment and moving users from existing exchange server 2003 as the mailbox count reaches more than 4000. For few mailboxes what i have observed that after succesfull movement to new exchange server, still i can see his mailbox on old server whtih red mark and showing size in few KBs wit no items. Although i can see his mailbox on new location and user dont have any issues. Please advice its a normal behaviour or going to be a problem for me? thanks in antcipation.     - Encrypting email using PKI. I am considering using our existing Certificate Services to allow users to encrypt there mail when they send the message from outlook. I get the whole idea of encrypting the message etc but what about this. After out mail leaves our exchange server it passes through a SMTP relay that does content analysis to look for confidential data and various forms of attachments. Encrypting is going to break it.     - Sender ID (SPF Record Wizard) I visited http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/safety/content/technologies/senderid/wizard/ and follow the wizard. I have 1 domain, 1 static IP address dedicated to send/receive email at this office. MX and PTR was created long ago. Email traffic works fine both direction. Wizard last step gives me something like the following: v=spf1 mx mx:mail.our-company.com ~all My ISP allows me to manage DNS (by using a browser). I clicked Edit Zone File. The next window gives me an option to add record in the following format: textBox IN A textBox textBox IN MX textBox textBox IN CNAME textBox textBox is where I can type information into.     - NDR when server is offline. During this past weekend we had a fairly long maintenance period on a couple of our Exchange servers and found that some messages coming from outside of Exchange environment would get bounced back to the relay server and eventually be deleted with a NDR. I was hoping that someone may have a solution for this. Here is the configuration for our Exchange environment. - We have 3 Exchange servers. - All incoming email arrives via a PostFix relay server which uses DNS round robin; MX records point to all three servers. In this example, what happened was we had two of our AMERICAS servers offline for maintenance. It was reported to us that some expected mail that was sent from the internet was never received from the server which was down for maintenance. I seached for the message in Message Tracking and discovered the message was bounced between the online server and the relay. Eventually the message was deleted and a NDR was sent. For the handful of messages I tracked, it varied from bouncing back and forth from 2-4 hours and the amount of bounces varied from around 10-30 bounces. So the questions are: - Why doesn't the messages queue up on the online Exchange server? - Is there a way to configure Exchange not to give up so quickly? The only thing I can think of that may resolve this is disable Smart Host before our downtime.     - Install ES2003 on WS2003 in W2K Domain with ES2K also running on another server. Hi Folks, I have a Windows Server 2000 domain controller running Exchange Server 2000. I have a Windows Server 2003 (SP2) member server. I am trying to install Exchange Server 2003 on the member server. During the Deployment Preparation I am alerted to basic incompatibility between WS2003 and ES2003 which is apparently solved with judicious application of service packs. Noted. No problem there. I followed the deployment steps and DCDiag and NetDaig reported minor problems that were negligible, according to MSKB. I prepared the Forest, and the Domain and I installed. I was not alerted to any problems. I can't find any artifacts of this installation. No menu entry, no service definitions, no MCC Snap-ins, no new directories anywhere... The Installation GUI reported zero problems but the setup.log reports errors of the following form: Repeated 3 Times: setup.exe: ***ERRORLOG EVENT*** : ModuleID not found in map in GetSetupComponentByModuleID() -- [{DA943894-7A14-4FFF-BBDC-C004FAE2310B}] Repeated 8 Times: WizardUI: ***ERRORLOG EVENT*** : ISetupManager::GetGlobalCustomProperty() failed in CPageBase::GetGlobalProperty() So, I am mystified. With zero problems reported through the installation GUI and nearly zero anywhere else, I would think this was a successful installation and I would think I should be able to find a dialog to begin to configure this baby, but there are none in evidence. And I'm not the only one that thinks so - if I try to install an Exchange Server service pack, he thinks there is no Exchange Server installed on this machine either. Am I missing something?     - exchange 2003 for HQ and branch offices I started out with HQ running windows 2003 R2 and Exchange 2003 standard.with 35 users. We added 2 branch offices runnind windows 2003 r2 with exchange 2003. The branch office can send and receive email from HQ and Internet fine. The branch office can't send and receive email between the branch offices. When login to the branch office server, i see the message being Queue within the Default SMTP Virtual Server.     - Moving Exchange 2007 mailbox Hi, I have a exchange server and the database is at 90GB, I think its time to split it up again. This is the first time I do it in Exchange 2007. I am moving from one Storage group to another storage group with the same rights on the same server. This is what I did: I right clicked the name and simply moved it to another DB. The problem is that the mailbox I moved over 1hr ago is not online yet.     - Exchange 2003 Cluster Setup ok after dealing with headache after headache with cheap hardware (not my decision btw) running our Exchange environment I finally talked the CEO into purchasing the following; 2 DL360 G5 Servers 72GB array 1 MSA 1000 1 MSA 30 Total combined drive space in raid array is 2 TB ok so... I know this much; build out servers with 2003 enterprise install all service packs and patches cluster 2 servers install exchange 2003 on cluster install all patches and service packs obviously I need a FE server for OWA to connect to the cluster my question is how do I implement RPC over HTTPS (disregard all the certificate stuff, I know all that) on that FE server to connect to the cluster?     - Upgrading to Exchange 2007 Hey all I'm upgrading to Exchange 2007 from exchange 2003 enterprise. I'm currently running on older hardware so I get to upgrade the server(finnaly). Current Exchange Situation I have approx. 100 users, Average mailbox size is 1GB, My boss is also rewriting the policy on mailbox size to never delete mail. So I expect that Mailbox size to grow substantially for some users, potenntially 6GB(i'm going to try to limit to this size with the boss.) We are running GFI antispam, It is a single exchange server, no FE. Any advice on what I should upgrade to? Looking at IBM hardware. Do I still need enterprise in 2007 for user mailbox size to get up to 6GB? Should I get server 2008-64bit or get server 2003-64bit? Current hardware I'm looking at is 4core's(probably 2x2core cpu's around 3Ghz) 9GB's of RAM, RAID 1+0 coming to about 600GB of usable space. Let me know your thoughts. Tag: System error ???     - Organizational Forms I'm using Exchange 2003, SP2 with Outlook 2003. I have two public folders, each designed to show a particular web page with various links. The web page is designed such that when clicked, the links open a form (it appears to be the same form) that is saved in the Organizational Forms. However, for one public folder, when you click on the link, the form comes up with the correct information for the e-mail addresses it is to contain, the other does not. How can I find the source of the CC field's value to change it? I have tried to make the change when I've open the form and then design this form and tried to publish.     - SMTP Submission port (587) question Currently when users outside the office send messages to INTERNAL recipients (via IMAP/POP3) our spam filtering software (GFI) marks them as spam on a SPF check (since the originating IP would be from an IP other than our MX (SFP) record). With the secondary "Submission" SMTP Virtual Server (Port 587) REQUIRING authentication, I can safely turn off spam (and Exchange) filtering so resolve this issue as well as gain some additional benefit for IMAP/POP3 users outside the office in locations that might block port 25. Could also possibly benefit mobile users (IMAP, non ActiveSync) sending as well, no wait, hold please... WM5 can't override the SMTP port, maybe other mobiles can... :D Anyhoo, that's the background, now to the issue.. When messages destined to an external recipient are submitted to the new "submission" VS, I've discovered they cannot be sent unless I put the new submission VS into the "Local Bridgeheads" via Routing Connector, or if I add the IP of the local system to the Access/Relay restrictions of the Default (Port 25) VS. So which way (or another way I'm not aware of) would be most acceptable?? Personally, I'm leaning toward the addition of the VS to the Local Bridgeheads as the SMTP logs get quite "messy" with messages being sent from one VS to another VS. Plus the ESM "Queues" stay cleaner as it appears that when a message is sent between VSs, you get these queue names that I'm guessing are the message ID? Anyhoo, thanks all. Tag: System error ???     - Meeting Requests accross Time-zones(CST-EST) 2 hours apart When we attempt to send a meeting request from 2 different companies in the same time-zone to a company in the EST zone, meeting get marked 2 hours ahead instead on 1. The "accepted" reply comes back an hour ahead as well. Meetings sent from the EST company appear to schedule appropriatly. We do believe we have patched all clients, OS, and server applications, at each company. Any Ideas? Anyone else run into this when sending out of their time-zone?     - Outgoing email slows (stops) internet Iâ??m running out of places to look and narrowed it down (I think) to something not set up correctly in exchange 2000-??-. If I send an email out with an attachment, the internet slows to a crawl on the intranet until the email is finished going out. Sometimes for as long as 1 hr depending on how big the attachment is and how many people it was sent to. My latency jumps up to 1500-1700ms from a normal 20-30ms. Did a speed test at dslreports while it was sending and it goes down to 300/100 from a Downstream: 3552 Upstream: 384 DSL connection. ISP switched out the DSL router yesterday thinking it might be that but didnâ??t help. If I send out an email using Outlook Express using a standard pop account and bypassing exchange, latency only goes up to 200-300ms and the internet is normal.     - auto reply in public folder. We are funning Exchange 2003 sp2. We have a mail enabled public folder that orders come into. We would like to have an auto reply sent out when an email hits this folder. I realize that Exchange has auto reply's turned off by default to the internet, which is fine, i don't want to turn this on for the company, only this one email address or a couple email addresses. Can this be done using exchange or a plugin/script/thrid party tool for exchange? I have gotten close to figuring it out buy using the moderator folder options. If i select the Reply option and use the standard reply, this works. if I choose a custom reply, it behaves like the rest of the auto replies and never makes it out of the exchange server. Don't know if this is an oversite from exchange or a bug that allows the standard reply to work. Using rules for a public folder doesn't work at all.     - Exchange Advanced Queue Categorizer Hi! I posted this question last week but nobody replied. We have an Ex2K3 SP2 on Wk3 SP2. Last Friday, mails were getting stuck in the Advanced Queue Categorizer and I believe those that got stuck were not delivered to the intended recipients. So we made some e-mail tests from internet. Some came through and soem did not and all these test messages were sent to the same e-mail address. The problem was resolved only after rebooting the Exchange server.What causes the messages to get stuck and not delivered in the categorizer? Is there a way to recover those messages?     - Phantom user in 2007 exchange. Hi there, we have both a Exchange 2003 server and an Exchange 2007 server. Earlier I tried to add the ability for our server(s) to accept e-mail for a second internet domain. during this process I had created a few test users to see whether or not it was working. I have since removed the test users from the domain. My issue is that one of the test users whom does not appear in the Exchange Management Console is still 'around somewhere'. I don't see it at all via the Exchange 2007 mgmt console, but I can still see it using the 2003 System Manager console at: exchange07 -> First storage group -> Mailbox database -> Mailboxes pretty much no matter what I do i cant get exchange07 to 'let go' of that account. the issue is it shows up in our GAL as an Internet E-Mail address that we need to use. So if i send an e-mail to that address the exchange server correctly sends back a NDR saying that the e-mail address is invalid (because it is). How can I remove the phantom mailbox? Commonly, this is due to identically named machine accounts in the target
realm (SIHF.ORG), and the client realm." I can not recall making any
changes. Any ideas on how to approach this/fix it?

You will need to find the duplicate SPN and delete it. Here is an
article that goes over identifying the duplicate spn using ldp.
