    - Exchange 2007 defrag with continuous local replication Hi, We have Exchange 2007 with 2 storage groups and LCR up and running. Our server is running low on disk space and I need to defrag one of the databases to free up space on the server. How can I do this with local continuous replication (LCR) set on the server. The database is on say drive G: and the copy on say drive H:. The database is 25Gb and there is about 47 Gb free on the server. Every article I can find says do the defrag the same as exchange 2003 or 2000. I know how to do that but what about the replication.     - EXCH2007 SP1 - piping Set-CASMailbox -OWAChangePasswordEnabled:$false question Good evening, Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 on Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 (64-bit) I half-way expected this situation to present itself as I read a post in another forum where the Admin "complained" about this happening. Anyway, I wanted to disabled the ability of certain members from changing their password via OWA. It works out nicely that there is a distribution group that holds all the users for whom I wanted to implement this. So, I open up the Exchange "command prompt" and enter the following: Get-DistributionGroupMember "nameofgroup" | Set-CASMailbox -OWAChangePasswordEnabled:$false Well, not only is "OWAChangePasswordEnabled" set to false, all of the OWA-related items are set to false. How do I correct this? And, why did this happen? Like I said, I have read one post where this happened but read several other posts where this worked.     - issues recovering exchange 2003 We're testing a DR scenario and can't seem to get the backups to work. Scenario and steps: 1. virtual server is a domain controller in existing domain - it doesnt have exchange yet. 2. taking it out of the network, seizing fsmo roles, remove other dc's, and stop replication to be safe inb case I mess up and accidentally put it back on network : ) 3. install exchange (didnt use /DisasterRecovery option - figured db was getting overwritten anyways and I said its another server in the domain - was that mistake #1 there?) 4. trying to restore exchange backups via ntbackup. the location of the dbs on the old server were on a D partition - the new system only has root C 5. it fails with "the specified computer is not a microsoft exchange server or its microsoft exchange services are not started" - it is an exchange server obviously The server is named differently than the original (same exchange 2003 patches though).... is this possible? The restore wizard in ntbackup just constantly says "the specified computer is not a microsoft exchange server or its microsoft exchange services are not started" If I try to make the DC the same name as the old computer after exchange was installed, its just a mess... since the original exchange server has its computer sid in the domain. I could remove it and try to rename my new system.. but if exchange is already installed its a mess... and then the sid doesn't match anyways. so.... is it possible to restore to a different machine that doesnt have the same drive letter as the original backup? I know.. I can check existing document on exchange 2003 recovery but it doesnt fit this exact scenario..     - Bulk mail enable contact imported into Exchange 2003 from domino A customer is using an import file to get users from Domino into Exchange 2003/AD 2003 as contacts. But are not mail enabled. Any idea how to change this behavior and how can they bulk mail enable the contacts? Created by domino dump with specific fields to a csv file. Import CSVDE import. In Exchange 2007 the import worked with a field called show in address book populated. The same field did not work in the Exchange 2003. If a single user is right clicked and the Exchange tasks are selected there is an option Establish Email address. This works great for a single contact at a time, the problem is there are a few thousand. But if we select more than one user at a time the Establish Email address is not an option. How can I bulk Establish Email address for imported contacts? I asked the customer to download ADMODIFY.net and see Establish Email Address is an option there.     - Ports required to mailbox enable users in another domain of same f I have a forest with several child domains. I have Exchange installed in one of the child domains. Users from all child domains will be mailbox enabled so /preparedomain has been ran in all domains. There are firewalls between the domains. No child domain to child domain replication. Each child domain replicates with the root and the Root GCs provide replication for the child domain GCs. Child domain A has the Exchange 2007 servers. There are no domain controllers or GCs from the other child domains within the firewalls of the Domain A.     - Inter-Forest Exchange migration Hi Question regarding the use of the move-mailbox cmdlet to migrate mailboxes from a Exchange 2003 org to another Exchange 2007 org. These are in seperate forests and domain. Does this move require that Exchange 2007 be also installed with Exchange 2003 in the old forest org?     - OAB Event ID 9360 Hello, We currently are running Exchange 2003 SP2 in a Windows Clustered environment. We are seeing the following error below on a daily basis in our Event Logs. Is there a way to correct this error so that the Address List changes update without issues? Is this a common type of error in Exchange? EventID: 0xC0002490 (9360) - OALGen encountered an error while generating the changes.oab file for version 2 and 3 differential downloads of address list '\Global Address List'. The offline address list has not been updated so clients will not be able to download the current set of changes. Check other logged events to find the cause of this error. If the cause of the problem was intentional or cannot be resolved, OALGen can be forced to post a full offline address list by creating the DWORD registry key 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeSA\Parameters\OAL post full if diff fails' and setting it to 1 on this server. When OALGen next generates the offline address list, clients will perform a full OAB download.     - SMTP folder too large We have many SMTP logs located on the root of our D drive called, SMTPSVC1. This is located on one of our front-end mail servers. Currently there are over 23GB's of files in this directory. I would like to do some clean up to free up some disk space and wanted to know if it is safe to delete these logs? Does this have to be a manual process or is there a tool that can run to check this folder weekly to delete for example the oldest log files?     - Auto Respose from Email Address Hello, I have a 2003 domain with Exchange 2003 as well. I'm trying to setup a auto response for one particular email address "contact@mycompany.com". I've setup a AD user as "contact" and created the above mention email address with it. I also set the contact ID up on a workstation in the domain as well as the Outlook 2003 client. I can send and relieve fine to this address but am having trouble with getting an auto response setup. Any suggestions on how to setup and auto response for this address would be much appreciated. I've tried this: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=291956 but can't get it to work. Am I missing some other config on Exchange Server or something?     - Exchange 2007 DAS Dell Storage enclosure Hello all I am trying to make a case for when we transition to EX 2007 to use DAS instead of using iscsi connected to a netapp storage device. I have no control over the current storatge setup, basically its a black box to, and whenever a user compalins that Outlook freezes or request data, i have to ask the storage guy to run performance counters againts the LUNs that contain the DB and trans logs, its a realy pain the butt, and this is why i would like to take the SAN and iscis out of the picture, and instead use a DAS with a DELL storage enclosure, when i mentioned this to the storage guy he said he always has issues with Dell Storage enclosures. I cant imagine iscis would be faster then DAS anyway with DAS i wouldnt have to go over an iscis switch to talk to the SAN, basically the SAN guys can can move data like SQL DB to the same aggregate thats being used by the exchange servers, and i wouldnt evan know about it until users started complaining, so what i am looking for is can i get the same or better performance with DAS in Exchange 2007 compared to Exchange 2007 connected to the SAN via iscsi? and what about redundancy? If I send an email with an attachment that is over the limit that Exchange allows I receive an email back saying something about email being too large or words to that affect. Is there a setting within Exchange that sends a message to the intended recipient that a email was rejected because it was oversized or words to that affect?     - Mail to (anonymous) web access gateway Hi all, We have a mailbox on our Exchange 2007 system that receives all kind of newsletters from 3rd parties. Is there a way to publish these emails on our intranet for anonymous access? I tried posting the messages to a mail-enabled public folder, but the users still need to logon to OWA in order to access the public folder. I am looking for something that would allow anonymous access to the contents of that mailbox. The users should be able to just bookmark the URL and access it anonymously. Any suggestion is welcome.     - Gettting rid of annoying NDRs One of my users at this office get hit by hundreds of NDRs. He's a victim of NDR spam. I'm thinking perhaps I can create a rule to auto delete those junk. My question is, what is an effective rule? By subject line (starts with "blah blah..") or by something else? Can a rule look inside mail header and search for a string "Return-Path: <>"?     - Enexpected loss of 2003 Server as FrontEnd to 2007 Server So we have three mail server, 2000, 2003 and 2007. The 2000 is only used for legacy Windows Messenger. Yea I know I need to give it the boot, though no real data is on the server, no PF, Mailboxes, etc. The 2003 Was pretty much the Front-end Server that all of the mail from the Internet Hit. We were waiting for some Software for our 2007 Server before we gave the 2003 server the Boot. There might have been a Mailbox or 2 on the 2003 Server, though nothing real Important. I'm not 100% sure where the Public Folders Ended up When we installed the 2007 Server. They Might have been homed on the 2003 server. The 2007 Server has a PF DB and is getting the Replications. There were a few Mail Enabled PFs too. I've Changed DNS to point to the 2007 Server, so We are still getting mail. What do I need to do to see what was left (if anything) on the 2003 server and or change things so the 2007 is the Primary for everything?     - Cross-Forest GAL sync We want to sync GALs in an automated method between a forest that has Exchange 2007 and a forest that has Exchange 2003. From my research I've found that IIFP is not fully compatible with Exchange 2007. ILM 2007 is just too expensive, we were looking for a free solution such as IIFP.     - Cross-Forest Mailbox Moves Hi, I have to migrate an Exchange 2003 SP1 Organization to our production Exchange 2007 SP1 Organization (company merge). Everything works fine when moving mailboxes from Forest A to Forest B via move-mail (Cross Forest Mailbox Move). On Outlook 2003 Clients I can update the Outlook Profile via the exprofre tool. My question is, what is a supported way to update the Outlook profiles on Outlook 2007 Clients ? Is exprofre still necessary with Outlook 2007 (and supported) ?     - Exchange 2007 Search Database for Keyword Exchange Server 2007 SP 1 running on Windows Server 2003. We need to search our email databases for any emails regarding a certain email address. Before, I've used the following syntax: PS> get-mailbox =96Database DB1 | Export-Mailbox =96SubjectKeywords "Discovery Keywords" =96TargetMailbox Administrator =96TargetFolder 'MyData' Now, when I run this in the Exchange Management Shell as administrator on the server, I receive the following error: "Error occurred in the step: Moving messages. Failed to copy messages to the destination mailbox store with error: MAPI or an unspecified service provider. ID no: 00000000-0000-00000000" Searching this group and the 'Net led me to believe that SP 1 changed permissions on the mailboxes; therefore, I've tried running the command "Get-MailboxDatabase -identity "BANG\First Storage Group\Mailbox Database" | Add-ADPermission -user "Vert\ExMerge" -ExtendedRights Receive-As, Send-As" [Certain stuff changed, of course] This hasn't helped. I could ask why the export-mailbox no longer works with SP1, but I don't really care. I've come to expect Microsoft to break something when they fix something else. I care only about this: How do I make it work? And one other thing, in case anyone at Microsoft reads this post: How hard would it be to add a "Search Database" option to the Action menu in Exchange Management Console?     - Exchange 2003 and Messages Stuck in Queue Hello, Some messages are stuck in the queue on our front end server and are stuck in retry mode. OS Windows 2003 SP 2 running Exchange 2003 Mcafee AV The queue messages seem to give different reasons for this outbound email that is stuck in retry. It is important to note this issue does not apply to all messages sent outbound. 80% of the messages are part of a "mass mailing" to external customers. The other 20% represents a nice sized number of messages that eventually will expire as well. 1. The connection was dropped due to an SMTP protocol event sink 2. Unable to bind to the destination server in DNS 3. The connection was dropped by the remote host Troubleshooting thus far has included disabling AV, transport sinks, turning on transport logs, and smtp logging. I have an open case with microsoft that to date has not produced any results as the issue remains. We have proved that it is not DNS, the antivirus software, or an issue with the transport sinks.     - Telnet Hello, I've been unable to telnet to port 25 on the exhange 2007 server. I've tried it on the server itself, from another workstation on the lan, and from an outside pc.     - Problem with Public Folder with multiple e-mail addresses Hope that someone can help. I have a public folder (called Customer Support for example) and it has 7 e-mail addresses assigned to it. If I send an e-mail into the the folder using any of the addresses assigned to it and then open the public folder in Outlook, it will list any e-mail in the folder as sent to Customer Support (the name of the folder) rather than showing the actual address it was sent to. Is there any way to set the publich folder so that any e-mail in it actually which of the addresses they were sent to rather then state the name of the folder?     - problem adding 2nd domain name to Exchange I have Exchange 2003 and currently we have one domain name for email @mydomain.co.uk I am adding @mydomain.com to the system and went into the default policy and added the new domain and ran the policy. Checked it next day and most accounts now had the new domain added but some didn't. I went through manually adding the 2nd address via AD Users & Computers until I reached one mailbox giving me problems. The mailbox is marketing@mydomain.co.uk when I checked it the address marketing2@mydomain.com had been added. When I try to edit that to marketing@mydomain.com I get an error message: This e-mail address already exists in thise organization ID No: c10312e7 Now this doesn't make sense as we have never had any @mydomain.com email addresses here before. I ran ldp.exe and did a search and failed to find any matches to marketing@mydomain.com (but do find one for marketing@mydomain.co.uk) I have checked every account/list etc in ADUC and cannot see this address anywhere. I deleted the user marketing and purged the mailbox. I re-created it and the same problem occurred. So, can anyone suggest how I might track down where AD thinks that this address is?     - Move cluster name and IP to Exchange group on 2007 CCR cluster I have a new Windows 2007 setup with two mailbox servers (Windows 2003 R2 x64) in a CCR/Minority node set cluster with file share witness and I have a question about the cluster group. The servers only have a few users on it at this time, but we're getting ready to start migrating our existing users from our 2003 system. The mailbox cluster is called EXMBC1. The two nodes are EXMBC1a and EXMBC1b (these are not the real names). The cluster admin shows two groups, the "EXMBC1" group with all the Exchange stuff in it, and the "Cluster Group" with the name and IP of the management name (EXMBC1M), and the MNS witness resource. When we do a manual failover of the Exchange group (from the Exchanage console and/or management shell), the Exchange group switches to the other node, but the cluster management IP and name stay on the original server (unless I move it from the Cluster Admin) What I'm trying to find out is if I can put the "cluster group" resources in the Exchange mailbox cluster group so that if I do a manual failover of the Exchange group, the "cluster group" fails over too.     - Kerberos error "KRB_AP_ERR_MODIFIED" in Exchange 2007 CCR mailbox servers I have a new Windows 2007 setup with two mailbox servers with Windows 2003 R2 x64 in a CCR/Minority node set cluster with file share witness . It's only got a few users on it at this time, but we're getting ready to start migrating our existing users from our 2003 system. The mailbox cluster is called EXMBC1. The two nodes are EXMBC1a and EXMBC1b. Our internal domain is "company.local" (these are not the real names). It seems be working OK, the cluster fails over within 30 seconds, the users are getting the email, but I've noticed about once a day, usually overnight, the system event log shows a Kerberos error, ID# 4 in each mailbox server: ************************* The kerberos client received a KRB_AP_ERR_MODIFIED error from the server host/exmbc1b.company.local. The target name used was exmbc1. This indicates that the password used to encrypt the kerberos service ticket is different than that on the target server. Commonly, this is due to identically named machine accounts in the target realm (company.local), and the client realm. Please contact your system administrator" ********************************** The cluster was installed using the normal setup, the hardware is new and nothing very unusual. I've done some searching, but not found too much that seems to apply. I've seen some articles that address this error, but they seem to be related to an issue where the info store won't start after a failover; ours seems to start OK.     - Exchange 2000 with 2003R2 domain? I am in the process of upgrading a 2000 exchange server to 2007. I am trying to get the domain funtional level raised, and in the process have hit a snag. I added 2 new DC's (2003R2), ran the inetorg fix, ran forestprep / domainprep, promoted the 2 DC's to DC's+ GC, moved all the FSMO roles. Demoted 2 of other 2000 DC's My big problem is that my Exchange 2000 server is also a DC+GC. I think I can remove it as a GC ok, and I know it's bad news to demote it, but I cannot raise the functional level until I do something. I took a look at the directory access tab for the Exch 2000 server, and it only lists itself as a DC, GC, and the one other thing it looks for, it doesn't appear to see any other servers, so I am worried about removing the GC role from it. Is there a way to "force" it to see other servers? I checked the reciepient update services, and they point to one of the new DC's. Any help or pointers will be appreciated!     - Anti-Spam - Exchange 2007 We are still getting some messages that should be delivered to the Junk email folder according to our SCL rating that are clearly staying in the INBOX. We have the Microsoft Anti-Spam enabled along with Trendmicro Scanmail. We had a Microsoft PSS opened now for one month and still no progress. How does one track a message and determine which filter tagged what and where it should show up? Any help would be appreciated . We have all the latest patches for all applications involved.     - clicking send in OWA puts the message in drafts... OWA runs perfectly on the server. The server is SBS 2003 Premium SP2. Outside of the LAN, OWA runs fine except for two things. FIRST: You can't open the contacts. SECOND: When you click on send the window reloads to the Exchange main page and the message is put in the Drafts folder. What do I need to do that will fix it.     - cert for external url ex2007 hey all, i have created a self assigned cert for my internal owa url which works fine. when i access the owa thru the external url (even after installing the cert) it always gives me 3 options one of which is continue with this website (not recommended) which is the one i chose. but it is kind of annoying to the sales force to have to do that option everytime. my question is can i have more than 1 cert with different information pointing to the same owa? if so is there a kb on how to do it?     - Exchange 2003 connector for Lotus Notes Hi Guys, I need a bit of help here. We currently have a Lotus Notes and Exchange 2003 SP2 environment. The issue has been that when an external client send an appointment or meeting to an individual within our organization to the Exchange server, the meeting is coming in as text and NOT an appointment. Yet between Notes and Exchange all appointments work perfectly.     - Overwrite Recients Display Name in Exchange 2007 SP1 When you send an e-mail with "User Name <email@domain.com>" in Exchange 2003 User Name is displayed as the To Display Name when you do this in Exchange 2007 it doesn't work.     - Mailbox Manager When adding a new folder to the Mailbox Manager Policy, is it possible to use wildcards? We would like the policy to delete all messages in the users "Deleted Items" folder and any other subfolder in the mailbox called "Deleted Items".     - Conflating excessive messages form a specific sender (internally) Looking for a good way to relay SMTP mail internally on network from network monitoring systems. Network contains dozens and dozens of applications and systems that send email re: status, events, alerts, reports, etc.. that eventually get delivered to Exchange mailboxes and public folders. My problems is that these sending systems that use SMTP are simply setup to relay though Exchange 2003 bridge head servers and I have no good mechanism to stop mass mailing outbreaks that occasionally occur during some system faults. McAfee Outbreak manager is installed but it can only detect multiple identical messages which is rarely what happens. I would like to see if I can use an EDGE or HT E2K7 server to force all third party connections though that could stop individual senders if they started to get out of control. I am however having trouble finding anything that will do this. Remember that the sending systems are all different and I have about 30-40 of them so stopping at the sender will be difficult. Suddenly I receive emails in plain text in where all images come as
attachments -- not part of email body.

When I reply, or forward it goes out as plain text.

In option mail format i have specified for outgoing mail is HTML.

Any idea how to fix this???

In Exchange, it can be adjusted in ESM, Global Settings, Message Formats.
However it can be done through group policy as well, which allows the users
to see the formatting.
