Use a custom AD attribute. Open ADUC, go to the properties of a user;
Exchange Advanced tab, custom attributes. Add the IM address in any of
those attributes ie. extentionattribute1. Now you have to map the
details template field to extentionattribute1.
I have it set up so that users can update the GAL including this
attribute using a com object from Glen Scales. With this you can
create a webpage and map these fields to a user friendly name and let
users update these fields themselves.
Web GAL Mod Com object - Allow a staff member to modify phone numbers
of all people in their department/office.
