    - Update Rollup 1 Trouble Ever since I installed Update Rollup 1 for Exchange SP1, OWA is not working. Exchange MAPI, ActiveSync and Outlookup Anywhere are working fine. The user can log on to OWA, but they get primitive looking HTML with links that don't work. In the IIS log, most of the Web parts that normally load with OWA show up with 404 errors. Has anyone else seen this? Any idea what may have happened or what to do to fix it? If I don't get any answers I'll uninstall the rollup, but not for now.     - IMAP4 on Exchange 2007 / Exchange 2007 SP1 Good evening! Okay, I am breaking down and posting this question on IMAP4 in an EXCH2007 environment. Need help setting this up. I believe that I have everything on the server-side configured properly. I am - from the outside - able to telnet to the server via 'telnet mail.mydomain.com 143'. Yes, yes....I know. Now, I am not able to do so when using port 993. I assume that this is a Firewall issue but I can verify this as this is not my client (helping a colleague). Additionally, we can not successfully connect to a mailbox when using OE from the inside. Do not know what the error was as I was not there. Just know that it does not work. I also know (I tried this) that it does not work from the outside (using the proper 'OWA' url). It looks like it is going to and then tells me that the server rejected my credentials. The error code is "Code: 800cccd1". I have tried just about every possibly combination of credentials and it just does not work. Now, I have also looked at the security/authentication. I attempted every combination of credentials (domainname\user and user@domainname.com and domainname\username\alias and a whole bunch of others) under one authentication setting and then changed the authentication to the second one and went through the same set of credentials again and when that did not work I tried the final choice (knowing that it was not going to work as 993 is apparently not open).     - Exchange 2003 - More Questions about changing SMTP connector from smarthost to direct for outgoing internet mail I had a previous thread going regarding changing our internet mail connector settings on our Exchange 2003 organization so that we're not using the smarthost for outgoing email (incoming email will be going through an antispam/antivirus appliance). I received some good information, but now I have some additional questions regarding this change. We've worked with our internal network group, as well as our ISP and are getting everything ready to switch. 1) Our internal DNS namespace does not match our external one (our internal ones are all ".local"). When we have our one exchange server (the one designated as the "bridgehead") making the outgoing SMTP connections, do I need to have the server supply the external domain name when it makes the initial connections (I thought it was part of the EHLO/HELO sequence). There's no place to change it on the routing connector, but I've looked into it, and it looks like I would change it on the bridgehead's "Default SMTP Virtual Server", "Delivery", "Advanced tab", in the "Fully-qualified domain name" field. Is the correct place? 2) If I change that entry to our external domain name, will it affect mail communication from that server to the other internal Exchange boxes? 3) On that "advanced delivery" tab, there's a button for "external DNS servers". If I put in our ISP's DNS servers on this screen, again, will this affect the internal server to server communications? The regular Windows O/S settings will still point to our internal DNS servers. I had determined previously to use our regular internal DNS servers (they do forward to the outside if necessary), but that was when I thought I had to change the Windows DNS settings. Since this is specific to the email traffic only, should I set the external DNS entries here? 4) In the other thread, I asked about restarting services and was told that the changes take effect almost immediately without a restart. However, as I was looking for the other information above, I found a technet article about setting up SMTP connectors (KB265293). That article said that after making the connector changes, you need to restart the Routing Engine and SMTP services. Since the connector already exists and we're just making changes, will we need to restart the services after changing ? I don't want to do anything to interrupt our mail flow during normal hours.     - help spammers hijacked my computer My problem is this: i have detected a high amount of spam messages originating from withing my LAN. i traced it back to a specific account. This is a legit account in my organization. Thinking it was a spam bot on the users station i had the station turned off and replaced with a different machine. However, today spam was being sent from that account again. What can i do to trace this problem and where could it be coming from since the other machine is turned off? by the way all the spam messages appear in the sent item folder in outlook.     - Reconstruct Exchange 2007 database from just log files Is It possible to reconstruct an Exchange 2007 mailbox database from just log files? We have completely lost our drive that hosted the mailbox database file and we do not have any kind of backup. We do not even have an empty mailbox database file. BUT we have all the the log files from day one which are stored on the same drive as the Exchange 2007 installation (system partition) .     - How to make Exchange 2007 reliable Hi; I am going to implement a new Exchange 2007 Standard, can anyone tell me how can I make my new Exchange Server 2007 reliable to maintain the 96% uptime? I do not expect 100% uptime but if I could maintain it in 96%, that will be awesome. If I run the Exchange utility to defrag the Exchange 2007 data store file, is it good enough?     - Exchange Shell - Not a technical question as such As a windows and exchange admin I welcome the powershell capabilities for cli management and scripting, but am puzzled at the fact that it is not an either / or management paradigm. The fact that so much is deliberately omitted from the Exchange GUI that must be done from the shell seems somewhat perverse and I can only think this is a marketing sop to pander to the growing influence of linux admins who demand cli and eschew any form of gui as a point of principle. As an example I have just had to construct a PS command of over 100 chars to configure address re-writing on an edge server, which took a while to research the correct params and syntax and then accurately type it in. In the sane world a right click and quick filling in of 2 fields in a form would suffice. Most admins I know dont have the luxury of working full-time on 1 BO product to become that familiar with the large no of cmdlets and complex syntax, (and also dont need to prove how good they are by exhibitingthe faculty of memorizing 100 char commands to fulfil simple tasks).     - Forward all mail for a specific domain I have an exchange sever that recieves mail for two different domains via recipient policies. I would like to forward all incoming mail for one of the two domains to another server. Eventually, the MX record will be changed and the server I am forwarding to will recieve the mail directly but in the meantime, I need to do this and don't know where to start.     - Problem with unicode characters in smtp mail We have some service that sends updates, it can send the updates in various languages, sometimes with country specific chacters, and they will show up as corrupted characters, usually as squares or question marks. We never had this issue with 5.5 Internet Mail Connector. I noticed that if I use Outlook Express, the mail same content does not get corrupted, but this could be html email thing as opposed however this other service is encoding the text. I'm guessing 5.5 just converted the text into english equivalents (I'm helping support an issue that I don't know the complete history of).     - SPAM Survey - delete or filter? So, with the various anti-spam solutions you all run, do you delete all the SPAM on receipt and take your chances with false-positives, or do you filter it into a folder (e.g. Junk Email) for your users to have a chance to dig through before it gets deleted?     - Mixed mode vs. native mode for a windows 2000 SBS machine... We have a windows 2000 SBS and it is currently configured in "mixed" mode. We do not have any NT servers in our environment any longer - however, we DO have a Windows 2003 backup domain controller and a Windows 2003 Terminal Server. Can I modify the domain type of our SBS 2000 server to "Native" mode now - even though I do have a Win2K3 backup domain controller?     - size of Outlook rules on Exchange server According to this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/886616 there is 32 kB (or 32 KiB?) per user on the Exchange server to save the rules defined in Outlook. One of our users got the error: One or more rules could not be uploaded to Exchange server and have been deactivated. This could be because some of the parameters are not supported or there is insufficient space to store all your rules. I checked her rules, and all of them are of the type: incoming mail - if sender = email address - move to folder. The folder exists, it is not moved or deleted. I cannot find unsupported parameters so it must be a size issue. It is true that she has many rules. I have been helping her to clean up her rules, but without good results. I feel like I'm doing shotgun debugging. I change one thing, cross my fingers, and try to save. Most of the time it doesn't work. I'm working in the dark. Is there any way I can see the current size of the Oulook rules? I would like to find out, for every little change I make to a rule, how many bytes I save. Versions: Exchange 2003, Outlook 2003.     - DST calendar issues Exchange 2003 sp2 - very strange DST time change issue. Every re-occuring meeting for the month of March was moved 1 hr ahead (ie - an 8am meeting is now 9am EST time). They all go back to the 8am time on the second week of april. It's just these few weeks that the time is wrong. I'm assuming it has something to do with DST, but why just for a few weeks and is there any fix for this, or do we just live with it until April when they are again correct. Thanks for any help.     - Replication issues Schedule+ Free Busy information folder (c1041722) Hello, For the Groupwise calendar connector we need te replicate the public folder Schedule+ Free Busy information. The backend server called ex001 is a cluster server. This server (ex001) is owner Schedule+ Free Busy information folder. The server ex006 (bridgehead) is added to the replication of the Schedule+ Free Busy information folder. When you look at the replication status you see that: ex001 => In Sync ex006 => Local Modified When I try to Synchronize Content on the ex001 => it works. When I try to Synchronize Content on the ex006 you get an error "ID no: c1041722". When I add a new public folder called "test" then the same problem exists. When I replicate a public folder between ex005(an other exchange server) and ex006 there replication is working normal. Seems the problem is on the ex001 server.     - Cert Hi, I just purchased a SAN certificate from GoDaddy. I am having a hard time finding out what url's I should be adding. Oh, I purchased this for Exchange 2007 SP1 std. Single Domain. My full domain name is, mydomain.domain.com I didn't make it and am not sure why it was done like that. My exchange server name is, namex64. The address people will use to get to owa from the outside is, mail.domain.com In the certificate I think I need these, Common Name = mail.domain.com SAN names 1. mydomain.domain.com 2. namex64.mydomain.domain.com 3. autodiscover.mydomain.domain.com Then I'm not sure what else I need.     - Direct Push and HTML emails Hi All, To set the scene, we have exchange 2003 and mobile 5/6 devices connecting to our server with direct push. We are currently migrating from Blackberry to WM6 devices. We have a legacy application which generates HTML e-mails and sends these to our exchange server for our users. Using Direct Push, the following message is shown to the user when trying to view an e-mail "This mail item is in HTML format, but your mailer is not configured to display this format." except when the user has a blackberry account and device, (in this case, the message is shown as expected - stripped of HTML and in plain text). As we are using Outlook 2007, the messages are sent using HTML, and as these are stripped of html and shown to the user? So surely these generated e-mails should be the same?     - Powershell Question Hi I am trying to update a number of users in our Exchange 2007 environment. I have seen that I can use "set-mailbox -Identity -ApplyMandatoryProperties" to apply properties to an existing mailbox and when I manually enter: set-mailbox domain\alias -ApplyMandatoryProperties everything works perfectly. So then I tried to do a bulk update using: Get-Mailbox -OrganizationalUnit "Users" |set-mailbox -Identity -ApplyMandatoryProperties (If I do "Get-Mailbox -Organizational Unit "Users" the correct list of mailboxes is returned) However when I run the above script I receive an error: Set-Mailbox : Missing an argument for parameter 'Identity'.     - Active Sync and Certificates Hi all, I've exchange server 2007 (Version: 08.01.0240.006) installed on a single server. Everything works fine from one year. I have to enable Active Sync from Exchange to some PDA, I've done it successfully from the LAN but when I try to do active sync from the internet I get certificate error from the PDA. I suppose that the trouble is the certificate used by IIS, this certificate is issued to ex-js-01 that is the netbios name of my echange server, I think I need a certificate for my exchange server's external dns name (https://my-firm.com) How can I do?     - Equipment mailboxes and Meeting Request I have a created a test metting room account and a test video conference kit room. When I choose resources when creating a meeting request, it puts the video conference kit in the location field. What am I doing wrong?     - Recovery Storage Group restore error Hello, I've created an RSG on exchange 2003 and have selected the database I want to recover. I have configured a share that has no Exchange related data on it as my recovery location. We are using Veritas 6.0 and when I attempt to restore the storage group to my temporary location, I get the following error: error writing file: e:\exchsrvr\recovery storage group. disk full at byte 0; wanted buffer size: 63488.     - DST Patches - Invite Attendees issue Hi, Here in NZ we changed our Daylight Savings dates, and subsequently patches all our exchange boxes and workstations etc. We have now discovered a new issue with the DST changes. Daylight savings in NZ has been extended to start 1 week earlier and finish 2 weeks later. Daylight savings would have changed this weekend, however is changes in 2 weeks time. We are only having problems with appointments NEXT WEEK, not this week, and I presume any time outside of those three weeks. When we invite attendees to appointments within the extended DST weeks, appointments appear 1 hour late to the invited attendee. For example, if I send someone an appointment for 9 am, their appointment appears for 10 am. This is happening with all users and servers being within the NZ timezone, all workstations and servers running DST patches, and only within the new DST weeks as mentioned. If anyone has any advice on what we can do to fix this issue, it would be appreciated. This is only a problem with invitations from what we have gathered so far.     - Public Folder Permissions Hello there, I am trying to setup some public folders to receive faxes for each of our offices, and departments. I have been able to setup the folders without any problems, but securing them is a different story. In my pubic folders I have /Fax/Office1Fax /Fax/Office2Fax /Fax/Office2DepartmentFax Now I would like to secure them with a dynamic group we have for each office. However it does not seem to work.     - Is there a Way to Find Out the Sender? Hi All: If a user has send As permission to a mailbox xyz and he sends a message to someone using xyz in the FROM field (so its coming from user xyz), is there a way to find out who actually sent this email? For example charles has sendAs permissions to a user mailbox called xyz. Charles changes the From field of the message from charles to xyz. Other users have sendAs permissions to xyz as well. Looking for a way to find out which user actually sent the message out of all users that have SendAs permissions. Well, we have a long list of users that have SendAs permission to the mailbox in question so cant figure it out that way (just see who has SendAs permissions). Thanks in advance!     - Quarantine functionality not working - release messages and view S Hi, I'm using E2K7 with SP1 and edge servers. The configured quarantine mailbox is receiving mail, but any messages that are being released are sent from the quarantine account rather than the sender account. In addition, exposing the SCL value of the item to help with adjusting thresholds only shows the SCL of the quarantine NDR (which is usually -1) and not of the original message. When I open up IIS, and I click to expand my server name (a windows 2000 SBS machine) and then expand the "Default Wed Site which we are using to provide remote Outlook Web Access (OWA) (using an SSL certificate), I see a red stop sign with the word "Error" written iside - to the left of the "Public", "Exchange" and "Exadmin" components.     - anti-spam isn't working My anti-spam filtering isn't working. I'm running Ex 2007 std. On my CAS/Hub Transport server I have some Event ID 1022 errors Anti-spam agents are enabled, but the list of internal SMTP servers is empty. If there are any MTAs between this server and the Internet, populate this list by using the Set-TransportConfig cmdlet in the Exchange Management Shell.     - denying access to public folders... We have several security "groups" configured on our SBS 2000 domain. For some if these groups, I want to prevent access to just a few of the various public folders we have and for other groupls I want to prevent ALL access to public folders . Is there an easy way to prevent a "group" from accessing a public folder? It looks like rights have to be specified on a per user basis... This is very tedious and I am sure there must be an easier way! I even tried setting permissions on the folders directly in the Exchange System Manager but that didn't seem to affect anything at all. In my outlook 2002 client, when I right click a public folder and select properties->permissions, it does not show any user groups there to choose from - only individual users... Help!     - Exchange Wake up on LAN Hello, We are having lot of power issues and sometimes our servers shutdown in the middle of the night. Here is something I want to implement. We have 2 servers AD server and exchange server 2003 std. I want to change the boot options for AD server to Restore on AC power loss and exchange to Wake up on LAN. I will put a script to turn on the exchange on AD server startup. (I assume that AD server should be available for exchange before it is powered up for proper operation. I turned both at the same time and exchange did not work properly) How do I run the script without someone actually have to log into the AD server. Can a script be run without logging on.     - Routing Group Master Deleted We were setting up a new network for a client. We had a server called xyz-exchange. We installed Exchange 2007 on it, but never went live. This is a new exchange implementation, so no other servers were out there. The server crashed due to some other issues. We rebuilt it from scratch since there was no data on it. The only difference is we renamed it xyz-exch. So, the name changed. We reinstalled Exchange 2007 on it. I believe that we have everything working, however, when I run the Best practices Analyzer, I get a message(error) that states the routing master has been deleted. When I expand the message, it is pointing to the old server name, xyz-exchange and not the new xyz-exch. So, I guess my first question is how do I resolve this error? Is there something in AD pointing to it or is it in the exchange box? My other question is that why do I even have a routing master since I am not connecting back to an Exchange 2003 box?     - Exchange 2000 Appointment Issue We are currently running Exchange 2000 on Windows 2000 and using GFI as our mail gateway. After the time change on March 2nd when we receive an appointment from an external server the appointment books for an hour later.     - Outlook 2007 Prompting for Password I'm setting up a Windows Server 2008 / Exchange 2007 SP1 lab, and running into a couple of challenges. My DC is Windows 2008, almost default configuration. I then brought up a separate 2008 server, and loaded Exch07SP1 on it, default install options. I have another 2008 server acting as the client with Outlook 2007 installed on it. When I open Outlook 2007 for the first time after setting up the Exchange profile, it always prompts me for the username and password. I think this has something to do with the auto discovery service or OAB. If I cancel this prompt, I can use Outlook just fine. When I schedule a new calendar event, I can't see any free/busy data. Now, if instead of canceling that initial password prompt, I enter in my username/password, I can see the free/busy calendar data, however, I get a certificate warning. I'd like the new Outlook 2007 with Exchange 2007 to behave like Exchange/Outlook 2003 and stop prompting legitimate domain users for login credentials when Windows should be supplying them automatically. Is this a known bug with Exchange/Outlook 2007? This is as close to an out-of-the-box setup I could get. I've loaded up this lab several times, all with the same results. I've scoured around, however I can't find any concrete explanations of why this is happening, and/or how to solve it. After much reading I believe that an issue I had with one of the drives in this RAID 5 array that caused me to reseat the one physical drive and then allow the array to rebuild may have caused this corruption. I will run a consistancy check on the virtual drive this evening. Then I am planning on creating a second information store on the same server and move all the folders and mailboxes to the new information store and deleting the old information store after everything is done being moved. Now the questions.... 1. Does this seem like the most painless approach? 2. Will this effect the OWA and HTTP over RPC clients I have accessing the server? 3. When I try to look at the properties for any of my public folders I get a pop-up telling me that SSL Certificate server name is incorrect, ID# c103b404 from the Exchange System Manager. I did find a MS Support article # 324345 telling me to clear the "require SSL check box in the Exadmin root in IIS. Will this effet anything else and is it a safe practice? 4. After I have all of my mailboxes and folders moved to the new IS is it okay to just delete the original IS in Exch. System Manager?     - Scheduling Information Missing Hello, A couple of our users are having some odd issues with outlook 2003 w/ Exchange 2007. When you create a new appointment and invite a resource the person can most of the Free/Busy times but some do not display. It seems like only certain meeting times are not displayed but most show up.If you look at the resources calendar it shows up. I have - Checked to make sure the users are not showing the time as Free - Made sure that the missing meetings had the 15 minutes to be updated even though they were created weeks prior - Given the users full access to the resources calendar so they can view it as a shared calendar - Cleaned out the users Free/Busy cache by running the command "outlook /Cleanfreebusy" The only thing that seems to "work" is to give the user full access then open that resources shared calendar, then open a meeting request as the resource. Look at the scheduling tab. Close without saving. Create a meeting request as that user. This seems to finally load the correct time for that day or meeting. This does not work for future events though, if you look 2+ days past some items still do not show. This worries me because I can not do this for all users. A couple things to note: The resource was created as a user in Exchange 2003. There is a person in charge of accepting and rejecting the invites to that user/ resource. This causes trouble when looking at the schedule then scheduling meetings before the invite is accepted. We recently upgraded to Exchange 2007 from 2003. Clients are still using Outlook 2003.     - Pub Sub-Folder Permissioning When there's a public folder with a whole bunch of sub folders and I have to add a new person to be able to see all those folders, is there an easier way than having to go into the permissions of every single sub folder and set the permissions individually? The top level folder doesn't have a way to apply a new permission to all sub folders, that I can see. When there's hundreds or even thousands of sub folders, this can become a nightmare.
