error when open help from Exchange System Manager
Hi all,
My 2003 SBS had a difficult problem in exchange server. This error will
appear every time when I open the help button in Exchange System Manager. I
have the problem in my server. And I can't find any solution for fix the
problem. Now, I had bought a new server for replace the old server. I
installed all server programs (SBS, Antivirus......) and updated all service
for SBS (service pack 1, service pack 2, exchange server pack, windows
update......). But the problem still appears in the new server even though I
have not begun to configuration yet. I don't know whether my step of
installation is wrong.
Please see below:
Error signature
AppName: contenfilter.dll AppVer: 6.5.7638.1 AppStamp:430e739c
ModName: hhctrl.ocx ModVer: 5.2.3790.2847
ModStamp:457d5a9c
fDebug: 0 Offset: 000133de
And the (contenfilter.dll) sometimes will change to (exadmin.dll)
I think this error is very difficult problem for me.
Please help me if you have any idea!
Thank you so much!!!

owa 404 strange error
We use Windows Server 2003 and Exchange Server 2007 Std.
We have troubles with OWA. Every user is able to login and the OWA interface
is on.
If I for example go to Deleted Items then select the message to delete and
click an icon of deleting I get the message window with the question to
approve and when I click OK I get the message "Microsoft Exchange generated
unexpected respons (404)". And the message is not deleted. The same message
appears when I try to write new message I get new message window displayed
and immidiately the above mentioned message (404). The new mail message
window stays on screen I can fill it. But when I clik "Send" the 404 message
appears again and the mail is not send.

Exchange 07 Event ID 9646
Hello,
I have Exchange 2007 SP1. On Tuesday, a supervisor's Outlook stopped
opening giving the message:
"Unable to open your default e-mail folders. The Microsoft Exchange Server
computer is not available. Either there are network problems or the
Microsoft Exchange Server computer is down for maintenance."
The application event log on the server is registering the following event
everytime she tries to open her Outlook:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSExchangeIS
Event Category: General
Event ID: 9646
Date: 5/8/2008
Time: 8:20:41 AM
User: N/A
Computer: FALCONEXCHANGE
Description:
Mapi session "DistinguishedNameOfUsersMailbox" exceeded the maximum of 32
objects of type "session".
For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
I'm finding lots of documentation relating to Exchange 2003 and SP1 on this
issue but nothing relating to Exchange 2007. So far I have had her sign into
another PC, create a new Outlook profile, create a new user profile, try a
different version of Outlook (tried OL XP, 2k3, 2k7), and sign into OWA. The
only thing that works for her is OWA which she is currently using.
Has anyone experienced this or found a workaround for it?
Thanks in advance. Tag: Conversation and Posted-To in public folder messages. Tag: 690845
Email address policy per AD domain
Hi,
In a multi-domain forest, where each domain has their own SMTP ( country
based ) domain, is there an easy way to configure Email Address policies so
that if user is in domain A, they will get company.com, and user b is in
domain B, they will get company.uk...
So is there a way to have the SMTP email address be decided via user's AD
domain.
Thanks !!!

Get-MailboxStatistics - LastLoggedOnUserAccount
When using the powershell CMDlets in the Exchange 2007 shell, I am trying to
get a query of ALL mailboxes that have the LastLoggedOnUserAccount set to a
sepecific user. This will help us identify mailboxes that have not been
accessed since our migration from 2003.
I can look at a specific mailbox by doing this:
get-mailboxstatistics username | fl
But is there a way to get the stats of all mailboxes (maybe by using a *)

"Send Again" from quarantine mailbox
Hi folks,
I am trying to implement the quarantine mailbox in our native Exchange 2007
organization. Followed all the guides on the subject, messages are
quarantined correctly based on the SCL, and I am able to use the "Send
Again" feature of Outlook to release false positives to their intended
recipients.
However when doing so, the messages arrive at the destination with the
"From" header/field populated with the address of the quarantine mailbox,
rather than the original sender??
I am not sure what I am doing wrong here, but this is a big problem for us.
We already had several cases where the users simply "reply" to the released
message so their reply ends up in the quarantine mailbox as well, instead of
being routed to the original sender.
Thanks in advance for any pointers! Tag: Conversation and Posted-To in public folder messages. Tag: 690821

MDBVU32 Unavailable?
Maybe not an exchange issue, strictly speaking, but we are getting errors on
our backups that the folder \Exchange Tools\MDBVU32 cannot be backed up.
When I try to click on that folder, I get a message that C:\Exchange
Tools\MDBVU32 is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and
unreadable.
Question 1: How big a deal is this? I've never had occasion to use mdbvu32
before, so I'm thinking I can probably get by without it in the short term.
But what if we ever need to restore our exchnage server from backup -- is it
going to be a problem not having this folder backed up?
Question 2: How do I go about fixing the problem? Can I just copy this
folder from CD or from another installation?

Password Expiration and notification in OWA 2003
I have a quick question and I apologize if this is not in the correct
newsgroup. If it is not, please let me know where I should put this and I
will make the correction.
We use Exchange 2003 and the majorioty of our users use OWA 2003 to access
thier e-mail. For many of them, this is thier only way of logging in (they
share computers with other people) and about a year or so ago, they stopped
getting password expiration notifications and we have a lot of user's
passwords expiring without them knowing.
I looked into this and it seems to be an IIS issue. Accord to kb article
297121 I should run the asdutil.vbs script to set the passwordchangeflags
setting to 1. I checked the current default setting and it is currently 6.
KB article 920723 states that 6 is the default setting for IIS 6.0 (which we
are running on our front end-servers) and that setting means that "Password
changing and password expiration notification is disabled". The last part of
that statement seems to be true but the first part is not. Our users CAN
change thier AD password through OWA. Here are my questions:
What does that "6" setting really mean? Our users can change thier AD
passwords but they are not getting the notifications.
What does the suggested "1" setting really mean? What impact could that
have on my Exchange servers? (I don't think it will have a major impact, I
just other people's experience and opinion before I make the change, if I
make it at all)
If I do make the change, what do I need to do to have the change reflected?
Do I need to stop and restart IIS? Reboot my exchange front end servers?
Thank you for any and all help and guidance that you can provide. Tag: Conversation and Posted-To in public folder messages. Tag: 690799
Deleting databases and logs Exchange 2003
Hi,
I have a server running Exchange 2003 SP2 that contains multiple mailbox
stores. I would like to delete 2 of the stores. H,owever when I dismount
them, even after a full backup, the log files begin piling up and the backup
job fails. As soon as I re-mount the stores and perform a full backup the
backup runs fine and the old log files are removed.
I would like to know what Microsoft's recommendation is for removing stores
from Exchange 2003 servers. I have searched for articles related to this
issue, but can only find information pertaining to Exchange 2007. Tag: Conversation and Posted-To in public folder messages. Tag: 690792

OWA access
Hi,
I was wondering if someone can help me. I have exchange 2007 in our
organisation and for some reason OWA has stopped working with both firefox
and IE. People can get to the front page of OWA where they input their
domain\username and password, but when they click on Log on Firefox gives the
message :-
"The page isn't redirecting properly Firefox has detected that the server is
redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.
* This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept
cookies".
On IE, it doesnt give any message, it just stalls and the progress bar just
increases.
I have checked the SSL settings, cookies, Exchange server and everything
seems to be setup right via IIS and the management console.
I would be very thankful if someone can help me with this problem.

What will happen if I try to send a file of >10MB? Will this restrict all

Is it safe to install Exchange ActiveSync Mobile Administration Web
Hello,
We have one Exchange 2000 SP3 server on Windows 2000 (the first
Exchange server which we ever installed) and two Exchange 2003 SP2
servers on Windows 2003 R2 SP2. For legacy reasons, Exchange is still
in mixed-mode. None of the servers are configured as front-end
servers.
Some users are using EAS and Windows Mobile 6.0 to sync their
mailboxes on the two E2K3 servers and we'd like to install the
Exchange ActiveSync Mobile Administration Web Tool for security
reasons.
Does anyone know please if the presence of the Exchange 2000 server or
the fact that Exchange is in mixed-mode will cause problems? We're
uncertain because the MS download page for the tool mentions that it's
only for E2K3 or E2K7 environments.
Also, where should the tool be installed, on both E2K3 servers or just
one? Can the tool on one E2K3 server see the EAS users on another E2K3
server?

Exchange 2007 defrag with continuous local replication
Hi,
We have Exchange 2007 with 2 storage groups and LCR up and running. Our
server is running low on disk space and I need to defrag one of the databases
to free up space on the server. How can I do this with local continuous
replication (LCR) set on the server. The database is on say drive G: and the
copy on say drive H:. The database is 25Gb and there is about 47 Gb free on
the server. Every article I can find says do the defrag the same as exchange
2003 or 2000.
I know how to do that but what about the replication. When I dismount the
mailbox to do the defrag what happens to the copy. All help greatly
appreciated.

EXCH2007 SP1 - piping Set-CASMailbox -OWAChangePasswordEnabled:$false question
Good evening,
Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 on Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 (64-bit)
I half-way expected this situation to present itself as I read a post in
another forum where the Admin "complained" about this happening.
Anyway, I wanted to disabled the ability of certain members from changing
their password via OWA. It works out nicely that there is a distribution
group that holds all the users for whom I wanted to implement this.
So, I open up the Exchange "command prompt" and enter the following:
Get-DistributionGroupMember "nameofgroup" |
Set-CASMailbox -OWAChangePasswordEnabled:$false
Well, not only is "OWAChangePasswordEnabled" set to false, all of the
OWA-related items are set to false.
How do I correct this? And, why did this happen? Like I said, I have read
one post where this happened but read several other posts where this worked.
Thanks,

issues recovering exchange 2003
We're testing a DR scenario and can't seem to get the backups to work.
Scenario and steps:
1. virtual server is a domain controller in existing domain - it doesnt have
exchange yet.
2. taking it out of the network, seizing fsmo roles, remove other dc's, and
stop replication to be safe inb case I mess up and accidentally put it back
on network : )
3. install exchange (didnt use /DisasterRecovery option - figured db was
getting overwritten anyways and I said its another server in the domain -
was that mistake #1 there?)
4. trying to restore exchange backups via ntbackup. the location of the dbs
on the old server were on a D partition - the new system only has root C
5. it fails with "the specified computer is not a microsoft exchange server
or its microsoft exchange services are not started" - it is an exchange
server obviously
The server is named differently than the original (same exchange 2003
patches though).... is this possible?
The restore wizard in ntbackup just constantly says "the specified computer
is not a microsoft exchange server or its microsoft exchange services are
not started"
If I try to make the DC the same name as the old computer after exchange was
installed, its just a mess... since the original exchange server has its
computer sid in the domain. I could remove it and try to rename my new
system.. but if exchange is already installed its a mess... and then the sid
doesn't match anyways.
so.... is it possible to restore to a different machine that doesnt have the
same drive letter as the original backup?
I know.. I can check existing document on exchange 2003 recovery but it
doesnt fit this exact scenario.. IE domain information already exists on
this virtual sever, no system state restore to be done.. since its active on
domain its going to have a different machine name than the original mail
sever.
the idea is in case of a disaster take backup of virtual server with current
domain info on it and restore exchange to it and we'd be good to go. well..
the idea anyways

Bulk mail enable contact imported into Exchange 2003 from domino
A customer is using an import file to get users from Domino into Exchange
2003/AD 2003 as contacts. But are not mail enabled.
Any idea how to change this behavior and how can they bulk mail enable the
contacts?
Created by domino dump with specific fields to a csv file.
Import CSVDE import.
In Exchange 2007 the import worked with a field called show in address book
populated.
The same field did not work in the Exchange 2003.
If a single user is right clicked and the Exchange tasks are selected there
is an option Establish Email address. This works great for a single contact
at a time, the problem is there are a few thousand. But if we select more
than one user at a time the Establish Email address is not an option.
How can I bulk Establish Email address for imported contacts?

Address is an option there. Tag: Conversation and Posted-To in public folder messages. Tag: 690735

Users from all child domains will be mailbox enabled so /preparedomain has

There are no domain controllers or GCs from the other child domains within

OAB Event ID 9360
Hello,
We currently are running Exchange 2003 SP2 in a Windows Clustered
environment. We are seeing the following error below on a daily basis in our
Event Logs. Is there a way to correct this error so that the Address List
changes update without issues? Is this a common type of error in Exchange?
EventID: 0xC0002490 (9360) - OALGen encountered an error while generating
the changes.oab file for version 2 and 3 differential downloads of address
list '\Global Address List'. The offline address list has not been updated
so clients will not be able to download the current set of changes. Check
other logged events to find the cause of this error.
If the cause of the problem was intentional or cannot be resolved, OALGen
can be forced to post a full offline address list by creating the DWORD
registry key
'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeSA\Parameters\OAL
post full if diff fails' and setting it to 1 on this server. When OALGen
next generates the offline address list, clients will perform a full OAB
download. After that time, the registry key should be removed to prevent
further full downloads.

Exchange 2007 DAS Dell Storage enclosure
Hello all
I am trying to make a case for when we transition to EX 2007 to use DAS
instead of using iscsi connected to a netapp storage device. I have no
control over the current storatge setup, basically its a black box to, and
whenever a user compalins that Outlook freezes or request data, i have to ask
the storage guy to run performance counters againts the LUNs that contain the
DB and trans logs, its a realy pain the butt, and this is why i would like to
take the SAN and iscis out of the picture, and instead use a DAS with a DELL
storage enclosure, when i mentioned this to the storage guy he said he always
has issues with Dell Storage enclosures. I cant imagine iscis would be faster
then DAS anyway with DAS i wouldnt have to go over an iscis switch to talk to
the SAN, basically the SAN guys can can move data like SQL DB to the same
aggregate thats being used by the exchange servers, and i wouldnt evan know
about it until users started complaining, so what i am looking for is can i
get the same or better performance with DAS in Exchange 2007 compared to
Exchange 2007 connected to the SAN via iscsi? and what about redundancy?

intranet for anonymous access? I tried posting the messages to a
mail-enabled public folder, but the users still need to logon to OWA in
order to access the public folder. I am looking for something that would
allow anonymous access to the contents of that mailbox. The users should be
able to just bookmark the URL and access it anonymously. Any suggestion is
welcome.

Any way to "remove" address by recepient policy?
On our Exchange 2003 server, there was a misconfiguration to lead
additional addresses being added into all recepients. We have made
correction to prevent it from happenign again, but I need to remove
those 2 additional address from all mailboxes.
Is recepient policy capable of doing that? Tag: Conversation and Posted-To in public folder messages. Tag: 690693
Gettting rid of annoying NDRs
One of my users at this office get hit by hundreds of NDRs. He's a victim of
NDR spam. I'm thinking perhaps I can create a rule to auto delete those
junk. My question is, what is an effective rule? By subject line (starts
with "blah blah..") or by something else? Can a rule look inside mail header
and search for a string "Return-Path: <>"? If the return path is blank,
delete it. Will that work?
Thanks. Tag: Conversation and Posted-To in public folder messages. Tag: 690691
Shared or Group Mailboxes - best way
Hello I am new to Exchange. I need a mail box that several users can access
and send from. (example customerservice@123.com)... I would like them to be
able to send and receive from the Client (Outlook 2003) and have the emails
all store in the mail box. I read that I can do a user enabled mailbox or a
public folder. What are the pros and cons for these options.

Enexpected loss of 2003 Server as FrontEnd to 2007 Server
So we have three mail server, 2000, 2003 and 2007.
The 2000 is only used for legacy Windows Messenger. Yea I know I need to
give it the boot, though no real data is on the server, no PF, Mailboxes,
etc.
The 2003 Was pretty much the Front-end Server that all of the mail from the
Internet Hit. We were waiting for some Software for our 2007 Server before
we gave the 2003 server the Boot.
There might have been a Mailbox or 2 on the 2003 Server, though nothing real
Important. I'm not 100% sure where the Public Folders Ended up When we
installed the 2007 Server. They Might have been homed on the 2003 server.
The 2007 Server has a PF DB and is getting the Replications.
There were a few Mail Enabled PFs too.
I've Changed DNS to point to the 2007 Server, so We are still getting mail.
What do I need to do to see what was left (if anything) on the 2003 server
and or change things so the 2007 is the Primary for everything?
Thanks,

Cross-Forest GAL sync
We want to sync GALs in an automated method between a forest that has
Exchange 2007 and a forest that has Exchange 2003.
From my research I've found that IIFP is not fully compatible with Exchange
2007. ILM 2007 is just too expensive, we were looking for a free solution
such as IIFP. Has anyone had experience with this situation? Can we use IIFP
SP2 with Exchange 2007 SP1 and just have a script run the update-recipient
commandlet at during off hours each day?

how to stop spammers from spoofing our domain?
Spammers are starting to spoof our domain a lot, so xyz@ourdomain.com is
coming through but itâ??s spam. Is there a way to allow only emails in the
Global address book to come through and filter anything else that comes from
a bogus ourdomain.com address?
we have Exchange 2003 with SP2

Cross-Forest Mailbox Moves
Hi,
I have to migrate an Exchange 2003 SP1 Organization to our production
Exchange 2007 SP1 Organization (company merge).
Everything works fine when moving mailboxes from Forest A to Forest B via
move-mail (Cross Forest Mailbox Move).
On Outlook 2003 Clients I can update the Outlook Profile via the exprofre
tool.
My question is, what is a supported way to update the Outlook profiles on
Outlook 2007 Clients ?
Is exprofre still necessary with Outlook 2007 (and supported) ?
Thanks in advance,

Delegate SMTP Proxy address change in Exchange 2003/AD
Hi,
Is there a way to delegate to a help desk the permissions to only modify the
SMTP address of a user with a mailbox on an Exchange 2003 / Windows 2003
Active Directory environment.
I know the attribute field containing the info is Proxyaddress, but that
attribute is not available neither trough delegate control in AD nor in
Exchange permissions...
Did I miss something ?
Thanks !!!

Is there anyway to either get rid of or not show the conversation and
Posted-To 'headers' in Public folder messages?

When you create a new public folder change its initial view using ESM and
select IPM.Note as an item to be posted in it.
