    - question for creating mail store Hi, We run Exchange 2003 enterprise on Windows 2003. I plan to create multiple mail stores. Can someone give me a recommendation for how big each mailbox should be? Should I group the people to different mailstore by concerning their department/title/job function or something else?     - move mailbox issue Hi, We run Exchange 2003 on Windows 2003. I set up second Exchange and moved mailbox from the first one to the second one. After successfully move some mailboxes, some of the them are disappeared in the first exchange server, that is correct, but some of them still there, however there is no item, but 54 KB left. Those mailboxes are disabled, I try to purge them, but I get error message like they are still connected by user. Why is there 54 KB left with no item? Why still has user connected?     - Cannot open certain mails in OWA Hi I am using OWA to provide email access from outside to users, and it is working except the fact that certain emails cannot be opened. Instead the error page below is displayed. From outside, users go through my ISA2000 server which forwardes connections to my Exchange2003 server.     - Receiving duplicate emails Hi, I have read some of the posts related to receiving duplicate emails as I still didn't find a solution to my problem I thought I will try posting here myself. So here goes. 1 - I am using Vista Ultimate and Microsoft Outlook 2007. I have 2 (admin and my office private email) pop3 emails on my pc. 2 - They are both important and they both must receive and send emails. So I should not uncheck "receive mails" in any one of them. 3 - I have "Rules" applied to the prviate email and it works fine by receiving emails to the specific folder. 4 - However, in the "Inbox" admin email is receiving duplicates of each email people send to the admin email address.     - Exchange 2007 Room Auto Accept Hi, I have Exchange 2007 setup and working with a minor, but annoying issue. I have setup our rooms as Room resources and configured the auto accept for the room calendar. This sends us an email saying that we have booked the room or that there is a conflict. It there a way, as in Exchange 2003, that we can get a pop-up when clicking the send button for the meeting request that will say that the room is already booked? Otherwise the email will go out to all the meeting attendants, then we get an email back saying that the meeting room is already booked 10 seconds later, so we have to send out another email with a new time.     - Exchange virtual directories We are running Exchange 203 and had problem with OWA this morning. Followed MS KB 883389 and rebuit virtual directories and got it fixed. But got some questions. 1. There are 6 virtual directories, Exadmin, Exchange, Exchweb, Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync, OMA and Public. Can someone tell me or point an article showing use of each? 2. I followed the article and deleted all 6 directories and rebuilt them. But I only had problem with OWA. Can I just delete one or some of them? Or once deleted ds2mb it will affect all 6 virtual directories? 3. In the KB article 10(c) click to select the Integrated Windows authentication check box ... Then 10(e) under Authentication and access control, click Edit, and then click to clear the Intergrated Windows authentication check box. She would like several AD accts to remain active but have the individual email addresses "deactivated" ...not removed but just temporarily inaccessible and not viewable. What is the best way to do this? I know I can I hide the mailbox from the GAL but that doesn't mean that someone who knows the email address still can not send to it nor does it not allow the individual to send emails.     - Direct Reports Question Hello all, We're running Exch. 2003, sp2 in a server 2003 ADS network. If a user account has other user accounts listed under their "Direct Reports" section of their user account properties, does it give that user (by default) access to the mailboxes for the users listed in the Direct Reports box? I know you can set permissions in the Exchange Advanced tab for individual mailbox access, but this is an old account that has had it's permissions modified almost 2 years ago. There is a question of a possible internal security breach in the past. I'm trying to figure out if that person was inadvertently given access to the mailboxes of the people listed under their Direct Reports section and was able to gain full access to those mailboxes.     - Please Help with Database Issue Hi all, I have pretty big problem. I am using Exchange 2007 on a windows 2003 R2. Today mail stopped flowing, the error in the App log was: "Resource pressure increased from Medium to High. Resource utilization of the following resources exceed the normal level: Version buckets = 100 [High] [Normal=40 Medium=60 High=100] Physical memory load = 93% [limit is 94% before message dehydration occurs.]" Upon reboot, the resource pressure went from high to medium, however, we also got the following warnings in the App log: "An error occurred on database "First Storage Group\Mailbox Database". Function name or description of problem: SLINK::EcUpdate Error: 0x8004010f " As far as the resource pressure problem, I know it's not because of the physical hardware of the server, it has plenty of harddrive space, and is never under a high cpu load. I belive the problem has to do with some sort of instability of the Mailbox Database (the first storage group is the only one we use). Can someone please fill me in on what tools I can use to possibly correct any errors that are in our Mailbox database? I know about eseutil. But should I just try to defrag it first? If I do defrag it, should I detach the mailbox first? Is eseutil /P a last resort? Also, we were planning on splitting up the mailbox, as it is getting rather large. Should I make sure to fix any errors, before we move our users mailboxes to different mailboxes? Any hep is greatly appreciated, thanks.     - Want to prevent users from spoofing internal addresses using Telne I am trying to prevent the use of telnet by our users to send internal email. At the present time, members can use any internal address as the sender's address. They are not able to use telnet to send to addresses outside our domain, but are free to send to internal addresses using these spoofed sender addresses. We are running Exchange 2003 with one front-end and two back-end servers. All three of the "parent" boxes are checked on the Authentication page of the SMTP Virtual Server properties. The list is blank in the Permissions for Submit and Relay page of the Authentication\Users page. There must be a way to prevent users from sending internal emails using spoofed internal addresses as sender addresses, but I have not been able to figure out how.     - Exchange 2003 Antivirus/Attachment Blocking? We have a perimeter smtp relay (not exchange) that virus and spam checks and filters all inbound mail. As a result our Exchange server Antivirus software has very little to do other than block compressed archive attachments containing executables i.e. the recent bout of Fedex/UPS/Western Union trojans. The Exchange Antivirus license is up for renewal, and whilst I've not got a problem with renewing it, I'm equally aware that it's a lot of money for what it does, which at present is pretty much attachment blocking.     - Moving Exchange data to new volume Hi all, I want to run what I need by the group to see if anyone thinks it's a bad idea or they have some suggestions. I'm running Exchange 2003 SP2 in a 2003 ServerSP2 cluster. I need to move my Exchange data to new disk to improve performance and phase old older storage. My plan is simple, take down Exchange, back it up, move data to new disk and give the new disk the same drive letter as the old, bring Exchange back up. I am trying to configure Exchange 2003 to accept secure connections so that I could send mail since most ISP are blocking port 25.     - 2k3 Exchange server crashed, can't remove Good afternoon! I "had" an Exchange 2k3 server SP2 running on Windows server 2k3 SP2. The hard drive failed (plus a few other things...older box). Since I had a nice new server sitting there waiting for it I brought up a new server (new name, same IP address). I only have one exchange server. When I got everything installed (same software config) I opened System Manager and the old server is still there. I tried to delete it and it said: -You cannot unistall this server as there is at least one postmaster account currently homed on this server. Please move this account to another server before attempting to uninstall. - One or more users currently use a mailbox store on this server. These users must be moved to a mailbox store on a different server or be mail disabled before uninstalling this server. Facility: Exchange System Manager ID no: c103f492 Exchange System Manager I can't do any of that because there is no info store (old server) to start to access any of it. I can't move accounts for the same reason. If I create a new user in AD and point the exchange part to the new server, it creates the new user and shows the exchange info, but doesn't give it an email address and never shows up on the new server. If I can't create a user, I can't restore the info store from the backup (the backup software needs an email account for as an agent).     - Hardware for exchange archiver & SQL Our environment runs Exchange Enterprise 2003 on one server. I'd like to run Sunbelt's Exchange Archiver to take the load of users with 10GB mailboxes off the Exchange server. They recommend running the archiver on a seperate server than Exchange. They also recommend SQL on another seperate server although it can be used with SQL Express. Eventually however, I'd like to implement MOSS, which also requires SQL. There is also a current need for a few small inventory & contract management databases that will be accessed by several users over the network. My primary question concerns storage requirements. As I understand Sunbelt, the archived data and attachments are stored on the archive server. Estimating the storage requirements for it is fairly straightforward. I'm unclear where MOSS and Sharepoint Server store their data. Also, what about the data management databases, is it stored on the SQL server? As it stands, I think I need two servers now, Archiver and SQL. The Sharepoint server we can get when we're ready.     - Duplicate messages I'm using exch03 sp2 as my messaging server & outlook03 sp3 as the client in a pop3 config.     - Cannot remove mobile device security policy Hi all, quick question, i came into the office to find that the 'enforce password on device' option in the mobile services/device security settings properties had been checked. hence all our mobile users had to set up a pin on their devices. i want to remove this. i unchecked the option but the policy didn't refresh on any devices. is there anything i need to do on the mobile device side? i got round it by performing a factory reset on my device but i don't want to do this for all our devices.     - Attachment Filtering Hello, Our company recently started receiving autmated e-mails from 1 of our supliers. The e-mail has an attachment that is a Word .Rtf file. The message body doesn't contain any text. When it gets where the attachment has ben removed by exchange, However if text is put into the message body the e-mail comes thru fine.     - Exchange server analyzer tool I'm running Server 2003 and Exchange 2003. I used the analyzer to fine tune exchange but after making two of the recommended changes I can't VPN into my server. The two changes were to the SystemPage value in the registry (I changed it from ? to 0) and The PageFile size (I changed the initial size, from a lower number, to match the Maximum size). This is our only server and is a domain controller as well as lot of other things.     - Security certificate with OWA access I have a single forest single domain Windows Server 2003 AD environment. I have two Exchange 2003 EE SP2 servers in a front end-back end config (one box runs only OWA...the other is the true Exchange box). Both servers are behind my firewall (internal side, no DMZ). Anyone who tries to access OWA from the outside world gets the IE security warning about a problem with the security certificate and clicks on Continue.     - Exchange 2003 not sending/recieving when other DC server is down I am trying to retire an old WIndows 2000 server wich is currently a domain controller. At one time, this server also had at one time Exchange 2000 running on it. My new Exchange 2003 server has been working great for years. Now I am finally ready to retire this old 2000 box. Although this old server is a DC, I painstakenly went through all the procedures to transfer all the FSMO roles to another DC. I also feel I uninstalled Exchange 2000 sucessfuly also. DNS is running on another server successfuly also. If I take this server down, my Exchange 2003 server will not send or recieve internet email. Internal email flows ok. I made my newer DC a GC, and took away GC from the 2000 box. Now the only thing left to do is remove AD from this old server, but I'm worried that my Exchange 2003 will stop sending/recieving again.     - Message Arrival = 5 days later within same Exchange Org Hi Everyone, I've got a strange thing happening. Single Exchange server environment (SBS 2003), single Org, Storage Group etc. Outlook 2003 with Cached mode enabled. User "A" sends email with attachment (300k pdf) to User "B". Item is sent from Outlook on Monday. The email shows in User "A" Sent Items as being sent on Monday. User "B" doesn't actually receive the email until Friday. I grabbed the message ID and searched it, Exchange Message Tracking shows the email as being picked up on the Friday and delivered on the Friday. I've checked the client PC expecting to see some connectivity failures either in the Sync Issues folder or in the Application Event Log. Unfortunately both are completely clean on this ocassion. There's also no signs of network connectivity issues between the server and the computer the whole week. I'm baffled as to how to troubleshoot this further. Any ideas.     - Purging Spam Hello, I'm running an exchange system that currently spans 5 2003 SP2 servers, with 3 other servers also running 2K3 SP2 in other sites. We are, at this very moment, migrating from the 5 primaries to a brand new cluster, but that's just background info. We're receiving a lot of spam with malware attachments from a specified external email address. 90% of the malware is getting stripped by our security policies, and that address is now blocked, but we're looking for a way to purge all the mail he sent to our 4000+ users. I have the subject of one of the more common messages, and already ran an exmerge for that, but is there any way to either, a) make exmerge find and kill messages from that email or b) a free third party util that can acomplish this? I'm not authorized to spend anything, and even if I could, it would take 2 to 3 months to get funding down the pipe. I'm also behind a pretty restrictive firewall that I don't have the ability to add exceptions to (it's managed a couple echelons higher and they don't seem to understand the concept of "I need to get to this site to fix the network"). Any help I could get, even if it's an informed "no," would be helpful, because my direct superiors know enough to accept that. The simplest is wab.exe if you'r users are running xp.

1. type wab.exe
2. click find people
3. Make sure the drop down is selected to AD
4. Search your name and you can edit. Note note all fields are there.

If you can't edit your own info then there is a permissions issue.

You can also look into third party apps.
