    - Disaster Recovery Unable to Reconnect Mailboxes Hi! I am working on Disaster Recovery for Exchange Server 2003 SP2 for test purpose only. I have a full backup of an Exchange database that I got from a server. I managed to restore the database on *another* server that I set up for recovery purpose (only the NetBIOS name and the NT domain name are the same). On this new machine, I can see the mailboxes under Exchange System Manager in First Organization (Exchange) > Administrative Groups > First Administrative Group > Servers > MYNEWSERVER > First Storage Group > Mailbox Store (MYNEWSERVER) > Mailboxes All the mailboxes are with the red check (disconnected). Whenever I try to reconnect a mailbox, I can' t see any valid user account (only stuff like Guest, IUSR_MYNEWSERVER, etc.). My question is: is there a way to reconnect a maibox from that step (and for example extract the mailbox content in a PST file) and if iyes, how do I do that. Help appreciated.     - HELP !!!! Hotmail BLOCKS attachment !! Can hotmail users help me please ?? I asked my friend to send me something, and he sent it to me, as an email attachment. Now the problem is in Hotmail. Hotmail has decided to BLOCK that attachment with the excuse of "Windows Live Hotmail has blocked some attachments in this mail because they appear unsafe." C'mon, whether it's safe or unsafe, let the user be the one who decides !!! Why in the world Hotmail becomes the master of the users? Can anyone please tell me how to UN-block that attachment?? I really need that attachment !!! If it's unsafe, I have antivirus / anti-trojan / anti-spyware installed to use against it.     - subject alternate names Hi All: I'm needing to create a self signed certificate for OWA 2007. I'm wanting to use my own certificate authority which is Microsoft Certificate Services. The common name (CN) for my certificate will the the URL that most external users will access OWA 2007 with (webmail.companyname.com) The internal computer name of the Exchange server (which also runs webmail) is not webmail but is something else. Unfortunately, when the certificate with the common name of webmail.companyname.com is placed on the Exchange server, all my Outlook 2007 internal clients start giving a certificate error. I'm assuming this is because Outlook 2007 clients notice that the Exchange server's certificate has the CN of webmail.companyname.com which doesn't match the server's internal name on the network. This internal name is the name that Outlook 2007 Autodiscover picks up on to connect to the server with. So, since that internal name isn't webmail, the Outlook clients start complaining but external users who access OWA are fine because the names match. So, I need a certificate with some subject alternate names (SAN). However, I do not see a place in the Microsoft Certificate Services to do this. The closest thing looks like the Additional Attributes box that is under Advanced Certificate Request/Submit a cert request by using base 64 encoded CMC, etc when accessing the URL http://servername/certsrv where servername is my internal Microsoft CA. Can I use the Additional Attributes to do SANs? Or can the Microsoft Certificate Services not do this at all? Am I forced to go to a 3rd party CA? Thanks!     - Permissions to log into OWA on Exchange 2007 I recently installed Framework 1.1 on my Exchange 2007 client access server and ran the command "cscript %SystemDrive%\inetpub\AdminScripts\adsutil.vbs set w3svc/AppPools/Enable32bitAppOnWin64 1". This basically broke my CAS. I uninstalled Framework 1.1 and ran cscript %SYSTEMDRIVE%\inetpub\adminscripts\adsutil.vbs SET W3SVC/AppPools/Enable32bitAppOnWin64 0 and enabled asp.net. Everything worked except for any users that have mailboxes on Exchange 07 aren't able to log into OWA. My redirection works for all users that have mailboxes on Exchange 2003 box. Error I receive is HTTP 403 Forbidden error or you are not authorized to view this page. You might not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials you supplied.     - Do SCR groups count towards the limit? Hi all, I am considering implementing SCR for some of our Exchange 2007 SP1 storage groups. I would like to create all targets on a single mailbox server, which has no other storage groups of its own (just the default, and it is not serving mailboxes, that is). All in all I would end up with about 8 standby storage groups on the "target" server. Do these SCR targets count as regular storage groups? In other words, will I need to run Exchange Enterprise on the destination server in order to accomodate 8 targets, or can I use Standard as well (which only supports 5 storage groups)? Couldn't find a clear cut reference anywhere. (As a side note, I would not want/need to "activate" more than 5 storage groups on the destination server at any given time.) Thanks in advance!     - Failed to apply SP1 on Exchange 2007 Hi; I am doing evaluation on Exchange 2007 standard, it is running on a 32-bit Xeon processor for evaluation purpose. When I try to apply SP1 on Exchange 2007, I got the following message in prerequisite check. I have already logon with my domain administrator account to run the SP1 but failed, I also checked, my administrator account is a member of "Exchange Organization Administrators group".     - Why? Starting two weeks ago I am receving ONLY plain text emails?? Using Outlook 2003 and SBS 2003, suddenly all my email are reeived in plain text. All images in the body of the emails are converted to jpg images as attachments. Nothing was changed.     - Using private Certificate Authority for IMAP SSL I have an Exchange 2007 Server (Standard, SP1) running on Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2. Our organization has its own CA (running on a non-Windows box). I've been trying and trying (and trying) to get TLS working with a cert signed by our CA, but with no luck. I imported our CA cert and its CRL using CertUtil -addstore root. Then I used New-Exchange to generate a CSR, and signed that using our CA. Then I imported the signed cert with Import-ExchangeCertificate and used Enable-ExchangeCertificate for the IMAP, POP, IIS, and SMTP services. At this point the Cert worked fine for IIS (connecting to the default web site with https:// used the CA-signed certificate), but whenever I started the IMAP service, in Event viewer I would see an error from MSExchangeIMAP4, Event ID 2007: 'A certificate for the hostname "servername.domainname.foo.org" could not be found. SSL or TLS encryption cannot be made to the IMAP service.' In the Exchange Shell, if I did "Get-ExchangeCertificate | FL *", I'd see that the SubjectName looked right, and so did the CertificateDomains list. The RootCAType was "Registry" and the Status was "Valid". Then I thought, OK, maybe our root CA cert needs to be installed with a GroupPolicy instead. I removed the root CA certificate from the registry, and placed it in the Default GPO for the domain. (I don't see how it's possible to install the CRL using a GPO, so that's still in the local store). Now the Exchange cert is listed with RootCAType "GroupPolicy", and the status is again "Valid." But still no love: I get the same error message when I restart the IMAP service.     - E2K7 CAS Certificate Getting ready to buy a cert for my E2K7 CAS. The Hub and Mailbox roles are on a separate server. My server's internal FQDN is server1.contoso.com. My OWA URL is mail.widgets.com. I know my cert needs to have a subject name of mail.widgets.com and a Subject Alternative Name of autodiscover.widgets.com, but does it also need to have Subject Alternative Names for server1.contoso.com and server1 (NetBIOS)? With this setup, when I open OWA on the web, the only emails i can see are the ones that come through at the time if my outlook is closed on the computer. If outlook is open, the email shows up for a second and then goes away because it is downloaded to the .pst on the server. I can view my calender and tasks.     - 2007 - Unable to cancel or update resource bookings We recently upgraded to Exchange 2007 from 2003. I updated all of our resources to the new resource mailbox type and configured the automated processing and MailboxCalendarSettings. Room booking seems to work fine; however, we just found that people are unable to update the time of a meeting and do a 'Send Update' or cancel a meeting. If either is attempted, we get the following error in Outlook (only tested in Outlook 2007): You marked "Room Name" as a resource. You cannot schedule a meeting with "Room Name" because you do not have the appropriate permissions for that account. Either enter the name as a required or optional attendee or talk to your administrator about giving you permission to schedule "Room Name".     - cert errors, redirects I recently added a second Exchange 2003 std. server. Both machines appear under Exchange System Manager\Servers. Both machines have SSL certs for OWA, but cert names do not match machine names, for example: ServerA.domain.com(machine name) has a cert "mail.domain.com" ServerB.domain.com(machine name) has a cert "mail2.domain.com" My problem comes up when a user logs into the wrong machine. If a user outside our network connects to "mail.domain.com", but his mail resides on the other server, he logs in and is immediately redirected to "ServerB.domain.com". This creates 2 problems. First, it generates a cert error, because the user has been directed to "ServerB.domain.com" and the cert says "mail2.domain.com. Second, once the user accepts the cert error and elects to continue, he is forced to login a second time, then (finally) he is allowed to view his mail. So, what I would like to have happen is: If a user outside our network connects to "mail.domain.com", but his mail resides on the other server, he logs in and is immediately redirected to "mail2.domain.com" instead of being redirected to "ServerB.domain.com". This would eliminate the cert error. Is that do-able? And second, once the user is properly routed, I would like for the user to not have to log in a second time. Is all of this possible?     - OWA interface to Exchange 2003 all messed up when going trough an Exchange 2007 SP1 CAS Hi, In a migration from Exchange 2003 to 2007 SP1, we want to use the new Exchange 2007 CAS servers to give users access to their Exchange 2003 or 2007 Mailboxes, it works well when mailboxes are on 2007, but not well when mailboxes are on 2003. The interface is all messed up and full of squares, no error messages though... We are checking permission or authentification mis-match, but just wondering what else can cause this... Thanks !!!     - disable availability service logging in Exchange 2007 Hi All: Is there any way to disable the logging that the logging that the availability service in Exchange 2007 does (not the service itself) to the log files on c:\windows\system32\logfiles? We like to use the log file as a rough sort of way to gauge how much webmail is being used by our users. Maybe there's something better suited for that than this log file? In the log since going to Exchange 2007, I see all sorts of references to /EWS/Exchange.asmx and /Autodiscover/Autodiscover.xml I think these are due to the availability service so if there's a way to just disable the logging for those, that might fix the problem.     - ActiveSync issue after mailbox move Some time ago we set up an Exchange 2007 Cluster with CCR. We have an ISA box which allows our users to receive email on their Windows Mobile phones. Recently we created a Standby Server with the Hub, Client Access and Mailbox server roles. This server is in a different site on a different subnet. When I tested by moving my mailbox to the Standby server, I can successfully send and receive email using the Outlook client. However, when I try to access my mail on my phone I am prompted constantly for my password. I enter it (correctly!) and it fails every time and just prompts me again. When I move my mailbox back to the original server, it works no problem. What am I missing? I would have thought that the 2 Hub and Client access servers can pass on requests to each other etc...     - Internal Org Mail Routing Hi all, I have 2 messaging org, 1 is based on exchange 2007 [target] and another on 2003 [source]. Both orgs have the same Primary SMTP address e.g. abc.org. I have added additional SMTP addresses of target.org in ex2007 and source.org in ex 2003 org. Now, I can send email from source to target using target user's secondary address e.g. USER 1@target.org and email routes just fine. The problem occurs in repliability, if I add the option of 'read receipt' or 'delivery receipt', the source user never gets any of the receipts. Also, when the target user replies to the email that was send by source on 'target.org' address, the source user's address shows as User b@abc.org. But the when the target user replies to the email from source, it does not route it back to source. I guess since the address shows up as abc.org, exchange tries to look up the 'user b@abc.org' in target exch 2007 org. Shouldn't exchange in target org route the mail based on secondary smtp of source.org since primary SMTP is similar in both orgs? Any suggestions??     - Is it able to change identity in the From box? Hi guys, We have an Exch server for our domain abc.com. We also have the recipient policies on the server to accept emails for domain def.com. I am able to receive emails sent to @abc.com and @def.com. In my accct if ME@abc.com is set as primary, the recipients always see ME@abc.com in the from box, even I changed it to ME@def.com.     - log email source Is there some way to log emails sent to exchange 2003, which shows where it collected the mail from? Issue is we have spam emails being received on some addresses. i dont know if they are being received because the spam is being sent to their primary mx record / primary email server, or if it is being sent to the secondary MX record, which points to the exchange server. The exchange server collects all the mail, and both servers have the same email names and domain listed, eg, if i send emails to myname@mydomain.com that can be passed onto the correct email address from either server, but external email servers should be sending it to the primary MX record, which points to an external server that is designed to filter spam, then pass it to the internal exchange email server. This is keeping the internal traffic internal, while providing resource hungry spam filtering on a second server, which is offsite (which also provides a redundancy email server.) i just need some way to log whats coming from where, from the exchange servers point of view, so i can see for example if spam servers are sending it through our primary server, which is missing the spam filtering, or if they are bypassing that and sending it directly to the secondary exchange server.     - Migration to Hosted Exchange server My company is planning to migrate from hosting their own SBS 2003 to an Exchange host provider. One of the techs suggested a method to minimize down time that I wanted to get another opinion on. They want to try having the local users create a final, local cached copy (w/ Outlook 2k3) of their mailbox, then configure the Outlook client to connect to the hosted exchange server. With this in mind the local cached copy of the mailbox will then sync with the hosted exchange server, since the hosted exchange server (dedicated server at the host's site) will have the same server name, AD name, and user logon credentials. I wasn't too crazy about this idea. I really thought the most effective way though time consuming would be to just export all mailboxes to pst files then import into the newly created mailbox.     - Exch2007 Connection Filtering In Exch2000, we limited our SMTP connection access by only allowing specific IP addresses under SMTP server properties>Access Tab>Connection>"Only the list below". In Exch2007 SP1, could we accomplish the same by entering the IP addresses in the Receive Connectors of the Hub Transport under Server Configuration (Client & Default)?     - NTBackup and Exchange I have a question about NTBackup and Exchange in SBS2003. I used to backup the Microsoft Information Store and System State in one backup (Exchange on X, Winnt on C). As of last week, I could no longer fit them on one tape, so I moved the System State to Monday, Mailbox on Tuesday, and Public on Wednesday. I've checked the logs and everything appears ok, but was wondering if I am missing something by backup things up this way. (I have a full system backup going to USB Drive Every night) Is there some database in Exchange I'm missing by not selecting First Storage Group.     - webmail redirection question Hi All: I have just transitioned our workplace from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 with no problems. In Exchange 2003, I ran a back end server just for webmail. Internally, the computer name of this backend server was WEBMAIL. The server was used some internally for webmail but way more often externally thru a URL that was natted in. In Exchange 2007, I am running OWA on the same box as the Exchange server. I've got external users natting thru and accessing webmail.companyname.com with no problem. However, I want internal users to still be able to open their web browser and enter 'webmail' and get OWA to come up. The old backend server from Exchange 2003 has had Exchange uninstalled and this machine is no longer around. The new exchanger server is not named 'webmail', its named 'exchange'. I realize that internally the users could just enter exchange in IE and come up to OWA. However, I would like to somehow get the name of 'webmail' when entered into IE internally to forward over to 'exchange'. And the old back end server webmail is no longer around, so I can't just forward it from that box. This error will appear every time when I open the help button in Exchange System Manager. I have the problem in my server. And I can't find any solution for fix the problem.     - owa 404 strange error We use Windows Server 2003 and Exchange Server 2007 Std. We have troubles with OWA. Every user is able to login and the OWA interface is on. If I for example go to Deleted Items then select the message to delete and click an icon of deleting I get the message window with the question to approve and when I click OK I get the message "Microsoft Exchange generated unexpected respons (404)". And the message is not deleted. The same message appears when I try to write new message I get new message window displayed and immidiately the above mentioned message (404).     - "Send Again" from quarantine mailbox Hi folks, I am trying to implement the quarantine mailbox in our native Exchange 2007 organization. Followed all the guides on the subject, messages are quarantined correctly based on the SCL, and I am able to use the "Send Again" feature of Outlook to release false positives to their intended recipients. However when doing so, the messages arrive at the destination with the "From" header/field populated with the address of the quarantine mailbox, rather than the original sender?? I am not sure what I am doing wrong here, but this is a big problem for us. We already had several cases where the users simply "reply" to the released message so their reply ends up in the quarantine mailbox as well, instead of being routed to the original sender. I dont think my syntax is incorrect. any suggestions?

Is "exchclient" the name of the client access server?

Try using this instead (_including_ the quotes):
"exchclient\microsoft-server-activesync (default web site)"
