    - Restrict Hub Transport choice in Exchange 2007? Hello. If you have 2 mailbox servers and 2 hub transports, is there a way to have each mailbox server only use one of them? The two hub transports can communicate between themselves normally so messages will still flow.     - Outlook anywhere with VPN Hello Folks, We have problems with the VPN Clients that connects with a 3 G Connections, Outlook on this clientes is very slow. I have been looking the MTU setting, but it doesn't look to be the problem. I have readed that I could have a solution with "Outlook Anywhere", but I want that my clients goes on connecting to enterprise network with IPSEC.     - Mail Sending suddenly started failing About 11:00 AM today mail sent from our Exchange 2003 SP2 server started being rejected by most recipients. Earlier in the day messages sent to these same e-mail addresses were succeeding. The actual rejection error message varies from recipient to recipient. Google Apps sends me this: "You do not have permission to send to this recipient. For assistance, contact your system administrator. <<MyMailServerHere #5.7.1 smtp;550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for RecipientEmailAddressHere>" This is not limited to Google Apps accounts, though. So far there are about 5 companies we do business with that are no longer getting our messages. As I'd said this started happening just earlier today, and there had been no changes to our mail server at all in the last several months other than Windows Updates. I originally thought we might have gotten blacklisted for some reason. However, I checked several blacklist checking services and we came up clean. I also went to DNSStuff and had it run the DNS tests and it passed the mail section. Particularly the Reverse DNS and PTR tests.     - auto-saving drafts in Thunderbird I'm having some difficulty with Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 and Thunderbird 2.0.0.x. First, I was getting a "There was an error copying the message to the Sent folder. Retry?" error, so I created the "Sent" folder. Upon doing that, however, I get a "Mail server ... is not an IMAP4 mail server." I click on Cancel and then get this: Unable to save your message as draft.     - 2 exchange servers, 1 outlook profile? We have a situation where we have some partners that would like to access their @mydomain.com while utilizing their own profile to access their @theirdomain.com. The exchange servers are not connected in any way. I know that you can only add 1 exchange profile to outlook at a time (thanks Microsoft for allowing this in Entourage but not in Outlook!!!), but I know that you can do it if the secondary account is set up using IMAP. However, our admins do not allow IMAP access. Can we do this using Outlook over HTTP for the secondary profile? Just to confuse everyone a little bit more, to summarize: the partner would be using Outlook, connecting to their own Exchange server @theirdomain.com, and would add an extra account for @mydomain.com. We are trying to avoid the need for them to use Outlook for their @theirdomain.com mail while then using either a separate Outlook profile for @mydomain.com or using OWA to access their @mydomain.com mail.     - Exchange SP1 install problems Hello We installed Exchange 2007 last year. Few months later we introduced a SBS 2003 but with the Exchange 2003 not selected for install as we use the 07 version of Exchange. Now I try to apply SP1 to Exchange and it sees the SBS and wants SBS Exchange to have the sp2 applied. I cannot apply sp2 because there is no Exchange 2003.     - In the middle of a 2K3 -> 2K7 migration I'm smack in the middle of a migration between versions of Exchange and now have questions I never dreamed of before! My setup looks like this: Server #1 (OWA127) is Win2K3/32 and Ex2K3. This server runs OWA and does all the internet connections for Ex2K3. It is open through the firewall for http, https, pop3 and smtp and has a public IP address. Server #2 (EXCHANGE126) is Win2K3/32 and Ex2K3. This is the backend server for the entire Ex2K3 world and does not accept any connections directly from the net. It's firewalled and hidden. All of my mailboxes live here. I have not migrated any mailboxes to the 2K7 server yet. Server #3 (OWA121) is Win2K3/64 and Ex2K7. This server runs OWA and does all the internet connections for Ex2K7. It is open through the firewall for http, https, pop3 and smtp and has a public IP address. Server #4 (EXCHANGE120) is Win2K3/64 and Ex2K7 This is the backend server for the entire Ex2K7 world and does not accept any connections directly from the net. It's firewalled and hidden. There are no mailboxes here yet. So far so good, everything is playing nicely. I can hit http://owa127/exchange and get to all my mailboxes. I can also hit owa121/exchange and get to the mailboxes on the Ex2K3 server. This is good. My DNS MX record points to owa127 and all mail is flowing nicely. My question is: While all the mailboxes are still on the Ex2K3 backend server... If I change the DNS MX record to point to owa121 (Ex2K7 front end) will Exchange receive mail for the mailboxes that are still on the Ex2K3 server and do the right thing with it? This way I can get my users using owa121/exchange on the new server to access their mailboxes on the old server and have much less disruption in mail flow and user connectivity while I'm migrating mailboxes.     - Multiple smtp address renamed to primary Hi, Exchange 2007 SP1. I created additional email address for the same user. Some contain different @domains that are "accepted domains". The emails sent to the additional email addresses arrive fine in the user's inbox, but the messages "To" field is renamed to the primary address set in Exchange.     - Exchange 2003 install/setup Is it considered acceptable to install Exchange 2003 to the C:\ drive along with the OS etc., or should it be installed to a separate D:\ drive?? We inherited an Exchange server set up with Exchange and other apps on D:\ and things occasionally got mixed up with some installations going to C:\ and some to D:\...     - Mail not being sent - re-start fixed? Recently I have had a lot of E-mail messages not sent, with the error code 4.4.7. I have changed all my timeout settings and number of concurrent messages. I don't think that did anything? Finally, I just re-started the Exchange 2003 server and all seems to be ok now. I have run into this re-start solutions, a couple of times now.     - Remove General Purpose Public Folder Tree Hi! I found a general purpose public folder tree, called info, that wasn't connected to anything except a store with the same name. It was probably created by the previous administrator to get a public folder called info with an external email address. Since it didn't work and was blocking me from using the desired email address (info) i decided to delete it. I tried in Exchange System Manager and it told me that i couldn't since there were replication issues. We only have one exchange server so that was a dead end. I found information on the internet/newsgroups on how to go into ADSI Edit and delete the line under "CN=Folder Hierarchies", so i did and the store and the public folder called info disappeared, but it still blocked the info address i wanted to use so i waited for a while and during the evening i rebooted the server. Today the store is back, but not the public folder. I cannot delete it in ESM, i cannot mount it to create new database files, i cannot mount it with the "correct" database files that i kept a copy of after having deleted the store.     - Message Tracking EventID "FAIL" Source AGENT Started from 1st of July, the internal users are not able to receive mails from a particular external sender that sends at least one mail everyday to a group of users, and with a simple Excel file attached. When I checked the agent logs file at the edge server as well as the mailbox server, they indicated the mail were accepted. I did a message tracking and found that all these deliveries has a eventid of "FAIL", source "AGENT", sourceContext "Agent", Internal Message 306142.     - junk email filter Hello all WE are running Exchange 2003 sp2. We have a couple of internal smtp servers that send emails to some internal users by sending the email to the exchange server. What i have noticed is the from address of the sent email is in the form of user@domainname.com this email address happens to be a real address in the GAL, meaning there is a user account with this same email address. Sometimes the emails that are sent from the smtp server are delivered to the users junk email folder, and i am thinking its manily due to two reasons #1 because the email is originating from an smtp server Outlook checks the header and determines that the from address cant be a GAL address, evan though the email address that the message is from happens to be in the GAL and #2 the content of the email contains a html hyper link. The weirdest thing about this is the email most of the time gets delivered to the users mailbox, its the exception that it gets delivered to the junk mail folder, but i cant figure out why it does this Tag: ADModify Tag: 697181

    - Managed Folder Deletion Hello, I created a managed custom folder and managed content setting and then a managed folder policy to basically keep the content of the custom managed folder for 120 days. I added some users and the folders were creted fine. However, I removed one user from the policy and want to remove the managed folders that were created automativally by the policy. I am not sure if this is the design but the system would not let me delete those folders even though I am logged in as admin. Is there a way to delete the managed cutom folders from one user without deleting the policy?     - Domain Rename with Exchange2003 Hi I am looking at renaming our Windows 2003 Domain name (BIOS and domain name). I have read the "Step-by-Step Guide to implementing Domain Rename" but have a few questions: 1] It mentionned that if the forest contains Exchange 2003 SP1, we also must use the Exchange Domain Rename Fix-up Tool to update Exchange attributes. It is also the case if it is Exchange 2003 SP2? 2] It also mentions that Exchange must not be installed on a Domain controller. Does it also apply to Exchange 2003 SP2? 3] If that is the case, the document advises to move the Exchange data off the domain controller. Would it be easier to demote the Exchange server (there is another DC on that site), perform the Domain rename change, and then promote the Exchange server again? or is there a catch here? 4] Lastly: this does not sound like a trivial exercise at all. If we wanted only to change the dns domain name, is there another way to do it ? (ie Exchange already uses the new company domain name as the default email address.     - Exchange 2003: How do you specify how mail is routed between the First the background: Domain: W2K3 mixed Email: Exchange 2003 cluster with a backend server Network topology info: Our MX records point to Message Labs, who upload / download emails to a content management gateway server in our DMZ. This server then forwards on email traffic to either Exchange or the Message Labs servers depending upon whether it is incoming or outgoing. The front-end server is there mainly for OWA and Outlook Mobile with SSL. However, I thought that the email were passed from the DMZ server to the front-end server, which in turn passed the traffic to the back- end. However, for whatever reason, Webmail stopped working on the front-end, so a new virtual front end server to handle that was built, but the old one stayed online too as Mobile PDA traffic still works through that. I have inherited these servers, and I naturally assumed that normal emails would be passing from the DMZ server to the virtual front-end server. However, it appears that the back-end server and the (non Exchange) DMZ server pass email traffic directly to each other. There is a mail modification program that used to be on the old front-end, that I have migrated on to the new front-end and so I would like outgoing traffic to pass through the front end rather than directly going to the DMZ server. I know it sounds silly, but I really cannot figure out how to specify the next hop on the back-end. I have made the front end the master of the routing group, but that has not made a difference yet.     - Calendar Permissions Hello, We need to set up an administrative user who has the correct permissions to add an appointment/set of appointments to all other users' calendars without sending updates. As such, I understand that we need to give that user Author rights to the other users' accounts. However, is there any easy way of giving the right permissions to edit all other users' calendars without having to give full access to the mailbox? When looking on Exchange Server 2003 it appears that we can give a user permission to access the mailbox of any other user, but there does not seem to be any way to simply give Author rights to the calendar.     - OWA stopped working We have a small Exchange server ( four mailboxes...) that we're using to test prior to our full on Exchange deployment. About a week ago, OWA stopped working. Browsing to the OWA page using HTTPS presents the certificate warning. After chosing to continue, the page just kind of times out and really doesn't give an error code. (i.e. 404, no DNS, etc..) I have used the EMC to remove and reinstall the OWA Virtual Directory and I've had no success. All the Exchange services are started except for POP3. Otherwise, my next thought was to run setup again and uninstall and reinstall the client access role, but I was wondering if there were any other suggestions before I go through that excercise.     - Journaling in E3K I have 3 Active/Passive E3K back end clusters with about 5K mailboxes. I have 2 SG on each server and my data and log disks are on a SAN. We have enabled Journaling on all Mailbox Stores and the journaling mailbox is on a 4th standalone E3K server with it being the only mailbox on the server. I am experiencing users getting errors that they can't connect to the Exchange server(happening on all 3 clusters) and very slow response time opening mailboxes. we are archiving with EmailXtender on another server which is off loading to a EMC Centera. E2K3 SP2 / W2K3 SP1 (1) First, I Move Mailbox from E2K3 Admin Group A which is in one NT Domain to E2K3 Admin Group B which is in another NT Domain. (2) Next, using ADMT Ver 3.0, I MOVE the User Acct from NT Domain A to NT Domain B (3) Everything appears to move fine User Acct and Mailbox. (4) Within ADSIedit, if I look at the properties of the newly moved Mailbox, I see: LegacyExchangeDN is still listed with the Old NT Domain/Site A and not the new NT Domain/Site B MSExchHomeServerName has changed to the new NT Domain/Site B ExchServer HomeMTA has changed to the new NT Domain/Site B Exch Server Question: Do I have to change the LegacyExchangeDN to reflect the new NT Domain/Site for this mailbox? We would first like to put a few test 2007 test MB servers in our environment for testing purposes, and would like to hold off on rolling out 2007 front end boxes (Client Access).     - Exchange 2007: Managed Content Settings Based on Size Hi, We're trying to recreate managed mailbox settings from our Exchange 2003 system to our new 2007 system. In Exchange 2003, there were Mailbox Manager Settings available to apply the policy to messages based on age and size limits. In Exchange 2007, it looks like Managed Content Settings will only apply the policy to messages based on age. We canâ??t find any kind of message content management settings to perform an action on messages over a certain size, such as immediately delete messages over 5MB. Does anyone know of a way to do this, perhaps with a cmdlet? I looked at New-ManagedeContentSettings, but I couldnâ??t find size available as criteria for the settings.     - Exch2003: KB953747, installed patch, not updating davex.dll and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953747 This patch was released by Microsoft on July 8th. I installed it on July 10th. Since then OWA is unreliable and three services are failing for a brief two hour period. This is the data drawn from 953747. This is the version installing the update will bring these files to. Davex.dll 6.5.7653.38 1,135,104 10-Jun-2008 15:18 x86 Exoledb.dll 6.5.7653.38 2,622,976 10-Jun-2008 12:18 x86 This is the version that is actually on my Exch2003 server. It's not the best setup, but the Exch server is running as the only server and its on a PDC that stores AD. I'm working to restructure this. For now, I'm trying to get these Exchange patches to actually install. This is the data drawn from my Exch2003 server. Davex.dll 6.5.7651.61 Exoledb.dll 6.5.7651.61 The OS runs from C:\. Exchange runs on E:\. Could this be the reason why these patches are not installing? To obtain the file versions I just locate the files and view their version properties. Three errors report on my server, in succession. 1) Event 7011, Timeout waiting for transaction response from MSExchangeIS 90 seconds later 2) Event 7011, Timeout waiting for transaction response from MSExchangeIS 10 seconds later 3) Event 7021, MS Exch Info Store service terminated unexpectedly. The info store service then restarts as I have set. In OWA, when users open emails they receive "Bad Request" errors.     - SMTP: Message Routed and Queued for Remote Delivery Hello. I explain below the problem. I have Exchange 2003 Environment with latest Service Pack, fix installed and Antigen Antivirus. This environment includes two Exchange 2003 Servers: Back end and Front End. E-mail flow works fine: all e-mails are sent to and received from external (Internet) without any problem. I use an external application (.NET) that use SMTP protocol to send e-mails with a *.pdf file as attachment by using Front End server. Each e-mail is sent to multiple recipients. Some of these e-mails are sent correctly and received, but other not: if I check the traking of e-mails that are not received (by using "Message Traking Center") I see these rows: [date - hour] SMTP: Message Submitted to Advanced Queuing [date - hour] SMTP: Started Message Submission to Advanced Queue [date - hour] SMTP: Message Submitted to Categorizer [date - hour] SMTP: Message Categorized and Queued for Routing [date - hour] SMTP: Message Routed and Queue for Remote Delivery Normally when I check delivery status of an e-mail I can see also the row: [date - hour] SMTP: Message transferred to server through SMTP What could be the problem ? - I checked Antigen to see if these e-mails were blocked by some filter, but not - I tested if I stop SMTP virtual server of Exchange 2003 front end server and start it again all these e-mails came back to the source recipient with a NDR report Please, could you help me ?     - OWA calendar not displaying data I'm running Exchange 2003. For one user and one user only, OWA is not displaying data for his calendar. All appointments are there when viewed with Outlook 2003, but nothing will display via OWA. And it's not that OWA is showing a empty calendar, per se...instead of an empty calendar, the box where the calendar should be displayed is just a large blank box (either grey or blue, depending on the view). The small calendar to the right on OWA shows bold dates for the dates where there should be appointments, so it knows the data is there. And I can search for appointments and get results...but OWA just isn't displaying the data in calendar view. I can even create a new appointment on OWA and it pops right up in Outlook appropriately, but still does not display in OWA. And again, this is just ONE user.     - Mailbox Restore I am in the process of an e-discovery. I am using Exchange 2003 sp2. I have been using the Recovery storage group to restore the entire mailbox store and then using exmerge to pull out the one mailbox that i need. My problem is that i also do a weekly mailbox backup and i need to pull back just one mailbox. This is a seperate backup fromn the entire store. I know this restore works in the live mailbox store. If i have the recovery store in place do i need to have an existing db in place before i do the restore.     - RPC over HTTP question Running SBS2003 w/Exchange. I have a client who travels and just set them up with RPC over HTTP so they can get their Exchange mail on a laptop via Outlook. Works great. But - they recently were out of town without their laptop and used a public computer to access OWA to reference an email from prior week. Apparently, when Outlook pulls the email onto the laptop, it does a move and does not leave a copy on the server, so the old email was not there when the client used OWA. Any way to 'keep a copy on the server' similar to what you do with a POP3 setup in Outlook? Can I give this client ability to use RPC over HTTP on his laptop and still use OWA when needed?     - Get-ActiveSyncDeviceStatistics 32-bit cmdlet forces device re-sync I've just discovered this after a problem emerged at the end of last week with devices having to re-sync against our Exchange systems. It coincided with me trying to get some stats to see how many iPhones had started using ActiveSync. People started seeing "There has been a change made on your server that requires you to re-synchronise all items on your device. Please perform a manual sync." with support code 0x80883001. Anyway, it turns out that this was caused by running the version of the cmdlet that is in the Exchange Server 2007 Management Tools (32-Bit) download from the Microsoft Download Center. When I run the normal 64-bit cmdlet on a 64-bit server, it works fine. name>, <first name>. I've attempted this using admodify. The xml file shows
that the changes were made, but the GAL remains the same.

Does admodify need to be run from a particular location? Am I missing
something simple?

How long have you waited and are the Outlook clients in cached mode?
These things don't happen straight away.
Also, what field did you change?

It was the cache mode, which I'm sure is set up on all of the systems by
