    - auto fill rows in Excel 2007 I have a worksheet containing plant information. Each plant has a unique code in column 1. The adjacent cells in that row contain information about that plant (size, color, latin name, etc.) When I create a list for a new job, I'd like to be able to input an existing code in column 1 of a new worksheet (or even blank space in the existing worksheet) and have Excel 2007 automatically fill in the adjacent cells.     - Formula for calculating time off My company is going to a PTO or Paid time off program and employees will start to ecru time bas3ed on years of service. I am having difficulty creating a spreadsheet to do this becasue of all of the variables involved. I was hoping maybe you woudl have some ideas here that I could poach. Here are the variables. It is all based on calendar years. So if a person started in 2007 on 12-30, as of 1-1-2007 they woudl be at the rate of 1 year since this is when their anniversary falls. Not only are people ecruing time, but there is also a max time that they can have. I will put in a crude table to expalin.     - Filtering in Validation I am creating a scheduling system for an EMS service. I have a single list of employees (AA:AB) that I can use to create a LIST via validation. AA:AA = Employee Name AB:AB = Certification ie P=Paramedic, I=Intermediate, B=Basic, D = Driver I want to filter based on certification in the validation option so that only paramedics appear for the medic shifts, etc. Is there a way to filter within the validation or do I have to create four separate lists?     - linking and transposing two worksheets I am having trouble creating a link between two worksheets. I have essentially copies of the same worksheet but one is horizontally arranged and the other is vertically arranged. I want to be able to update either one of the worksheets, and then excel to automatically update the other. I have tried linking them but as in one the data is horizontally arranged and the other is vertically arranged it doesn't work. I have tried creating a new workbook and using this formula; =INDEX(.....COLUMNS($A:A),ROWS(1:1)) but this only seems to coppy and I cannot update both sheets by inputting data into another?     - mouse locked in "drag mode" Here's an odd situation that I've run into in my excel '03...sometimes, not all the time, the mouse will lock itself almost as if I'm holding down the left button and dragging it around.     - Scheduleing Employee Twice I just recently posted with a question about a formula to not be able to schedule an Employee if they requested a day off, and it worked great. Thanks to T. Valko. They gave me the formula =MATCH(A3,B$5:B$23,0) to assist on my question. I was wondering if I need to use the same basic formula for my next problem area. I have tried using it, but to no prevail. Question: In cell B4:B23 I have a list of all the Employees for that DAY SHIFT and what times they come in, as well the position they work. (a drop down menu is in use to select employee names) In cell H4:H23 I also have a list of all the employees for that NIGHT SHIFT what times they come in, as well as position they work. (a drop down menu is in use to select employee names) I would like to know if there is a way to prevent a user from scheduleing the same employee twice in a day in two different positions. We have had problems in the past where the Manager scheduled an employee twice in the same day, and we were left short handed. Of course we have some employees work between shifts so they are oviously going to be on both shifts; as well as splits.     - comment (with little red triangle) appearing in pivot table Hi, if i insert a comment in my source data (using the 'insert commment' function with little red triangle), and then do a pivot table on that data, is there a way to have the comment appear with the data in the pivot table?? I can understand it would be hard when data cells are summarised or totalled etc in the pivot table, but where individual data cell infomation from the data source is presented in the pivot table, i just thought there should be a way to have the 'comment' to appear as well as the cell information.     - macros help... I have a vertical list of 4 digit numbers that I want to add a zero(0) to the beginning of the number. For example a number might be 3324 and I want to add a 0 to the left of the 4 digits to end up looing like 03324. The problem is this: This vertical list of numbers is almost 1200 lines deep. Some of the numbers in this list are already 5 digits, whcih is what I want. I need every number on each line to be 5 digits long. I did create a macro to add the 0 to the 4 digit number, then drop down to the next line, but when I run the macro again for the next line, it changes the number on the next line to the same number on the line above. I want to be able to start in a cell, hit Ctrl G and have it add a 0 to the 4 digit number in that cell, then drop down a line and allow me to hit Ctrl G to do the same thing to the 4 digit number in that particular cell. The left column in the spreadsheet looks like this: 2345 2365 2476 2490 And when I get through I want it to look like this: 02345 02365 02476 02490 What it is doing now is this: 02345 02345 02345 02345 It's changing each number in each row to look exactly like the number in the first row.     - Form behind cell entries Good afternoon -- I would like to use Excel as a simple database, so that other users can fill out forms. Rather than retyping and formatting the form in Excel (or requiring them to print out a blank copy and reinsert it into the printer) I'd like to paste a picture of the form, perhaps making it transparent, and then writing code to fill the appropriate cells with the appropriate info.     - Printing with cell borders MS Office 2003-Excel - when I print a sheet that has borders around the cells, as you move down the printed page, the bottom cell borders print above the data in the cell so it looks like the data has a strike-thru instead of the cell border. The top half of the printed page looks fine, but as you move down the page, the cell borders seem to "move" up while the data remains in place.     - Validation List to fill adjacent cell with IF? I am trying to set up a drop down list (list is set up ok) that has the months of the year in it to correspond with a number for the month using IF, but it doesn't seem to work. Here is the formula I was trying in cell A2: IF(A1="January",(1))*IF(A1="February",(2))...etc. The value in A2 comes back as 0 or #NAME.     - Strange formula problem Sorry for the vague subject line but I couldn't think how to summarise this problem in a few words. I've created a workbook to record how many hours I spend working on various projects. The workbook consists of a sheet for every week of the year and a totals sheet. The weekly sheets feed into the totals sheet via SUMIF formulas. The projects all have a unique code which are listed on the totals sheets and are entered on each week sheet if I work on that project in that particular week. On the totals sheet I have a column to enter how many hours are allocated to each project and a column which compares this number to the total hours worked on that project. This is where the anomaly lies. I have entered some test data. I have listed 5 project codes on the totals sheet and in week 1 I've entered those 5 codes and have allocated 2 hours to each project. The totals sheet is showing a total of 2 hours against of the projects - so far so good. If I enter "3:00" into the "Hours allocated" column for each row my "Hours remaining" column shows "1:00" against each project. Similarly, if I allocate 1 hour then the formula in the "Hours remaining column shows "Job over by 1 hours". Perfect. The problem arises when the hours allocated and the hours worked are the same. In this example when I enter "2:00" into the "Hours allocated" column some of the rows show "0:00" (which is what I would expect" ) but some show "Job over by 0:00 hours"! I have checked and double checked and all the relevant cells have the same formulas and are formatted the same - what could be wrong? Just to test, in a spare column I entered the formula =IF(C3-F3, "yes", "no") - column C is Hour allocated and column F totals data from the weekly sheets. The rows which show "0:00" return "yes" to this formula and the rows which show "Job over by 0:00 hours" return "no". I really don't have a clue how to fix this so any help would be greatly received.     - Question regarding Dates I receive reports weekly and I am creating a receipt log. When I receive the report I enter the date I received it. My date has to be setup as d-mmm-yyyy. I create the year 2008 daily on another worksheet and name it Year2008. In each cell, C2:BB19, I have a list with every day of the year of 2008, "Year2008". I also have conditional formatting referring to cells C1:BB1, Weekly dates. If the dates from C2:BB19 don't match, then, if early the cell turns yellow, and if late the cell turns orange. In the event that within a report, not the day I received the report, but what is actually in the report gives me a late information, I want to select a special date, for instance, *d-mmm-yyyy, rather than d-mmm-yyyy. Therefore I can create another condition where if there is a "*" before the date then the cell will turn red. I want to add another 2008 year to my already 2008 year except with someway of refering to something late in the report i received, like the *. My problem is, as far as I know, I can't create a date that is recognized as *d-mmm-yyyy. This may be as easy as creating another d-mmm-yyyy for 2008 and then inserting the *. But, I don't know how.     - blank lines in text cells I'm getting blank lines at the tops of text cells. Column widths are fixed and row heights are set to AutoFit. Cell alignment is set to Wrap text. What am I missing? Simple spreadsheet to track time spent on a project. First column is date, second column is verbal description of work done, and third column indicates hours spent on those tasks on that day. First and third columns are always one line and set for Top vertical alignment. Second column is typically several lines and is the one giving me problems.     - Translate from Numbers to Descriptions Each month many of us receive an auto-export in Excel that contains data that we use to create charts and Pivot Tables from. When I save an Excel file to a folder, a second 1KB file is created with the same name and a prefix of ~$ in front of the original file name. The second file will not open.     - Dynamic Print Range with cells containing formulas ! Greetings all Excel Experts ! I have 200 rows that contain formulas. If I only fill 100 of them with data and print the page I get a lot of empty pages. How can I make Excel print ONLY the 50 rows with data. Likewise, if my file grows to 150 rows, Excel needs to adjust the print range accordingly to accommodate up to 150 rows. I know you can select the area before printing and then print selected area. But I want excel to print only the rows where say column D <>"". Keep in mind that all columns in this sheet contain formulas. Is this possible? Many thanks !! Hi,
I have a user who is using Excel 2003 on Windows XP. She has a shared
workbook that is password-protected on a shared drive. Everyone who
has access to the spreadsheet can open it, except for her. It is only
this spreadsheet. Her password works fine on other spreadsheets and
documents. (This is Excel-level password protection, Tools >
Protection >Protect Workbook. )

There is no error message. She enters her password, and a blank
instance of Excel opens. Any ideas about how to fix this?

Select Tools -> Options -> General tab and Uncheck "Ignore other applications"
