    - If & Then This is a tought one.......... I'm trying to make an IF function but don't know if what I want is possible. In F33 I have 185,000.00 (this number changes every month) If the user puts the correct verification code in F35 then L35 will say "OK", If not, L35 will say "Wrong Code" The problem is, to get the verification code on 185,000,00 one would count the amount of digits in the number and then add the value of the digits. 185,000.00 is eight digits long, so the calculation would be: 8+1+8+5+0+0+0+0+0 = 22 So the verification code would be 22.     - multiple page fields in a pivot tanle I am trying to have a pivot table react to a change in this dropdown box. The user clicks on 2 groups of option buttons first but after the code gets to this line "pfTYPE.CurrentPage = strPI(1)", it won't go any further. This changes the first page field but won't go beyond this. What am I doing wrong ?     - Same time, next year.... Hello, I am working on a massive (evil) Double-Declining Balance AMT spreadsheet...ugh! The first issue I would like to address is that I have a list of assets, all with different purchase dates in Column C. I would like column D to compute the date of 3/31/XX, where XX is the NEXT instance of the date 3/31.     - Dont count weekends Todays date is x ok. Its easy to get yesterdays date by doing x-1. Bu if I only want to have WORKDAYS and I do x-2 (which by the way is doin a look up function and because there is no data for weekends) I get #N/A. How do I tell it to only use weekdays?     - How should I do this? I am using Excel 2000 and have a problem. I have a spreadsheet from an associate that the tracks the purchasing of steel. MY PROBLEM: Currently he types in the steel thickness on column C on a sheet named 2005. He then looks a another page in the same workbook named Specification to match up the pounds per square foot. For example 1/4" = 10.21 lbs. per square foot. After he looks at the specification page and matches his steel thickness with the appropriate lbs. per sq. ft. he will put the answer (in this case) 10.210 in column D on the sheet named 2005. I would really like to create a formula or something that will let him type in whatever cell he may be at in column c and have the info. in that particular cell go to the chart on the Specification page and find the answer and put the answer in column D on the sheet named 2005.     - Pivot tables- grouping a particular field Hello I'm pretty new to PTs and I'm having some difficulties. I a have database that needs summarising. The second column has all the dates up to the present using autofill. I wanted to summarise the data on the PT into a week e.g.1 07/11/2005-13/11/2005 but when I put the date field into the Pivot table I get each individual date rather than nice little groups e.g.2 <07/11/2005 07/11/2005-13/11/2005 14/11/2005-20/11/2005 >20/11/2005, etc, etc I know this can be resolved because someone I kindly received a pivot table from someone of one of these discussion boards in this form.     - Formulas in Pivot based on average Hi I cannot get Pivot to calculate with amount in column, it sumarises from basesheet. I have 3 columns in base sheet: Costcenters (multiple times), cost element (only one pr. cost center), cost Then I use 2 vlookup's on costcenter to get an A&B allocation % (Total 100%) pr costcenter. This value I included in Pivot, but Pivot summed up the number of times. F.ex on 1 costcenter I had allocation 75% Then Pivot sumed up number of times 75% were looked up on that costcenter as costcenter appeard in many rows as linked to different costselements. I managed to use a max/average formula so now it actually shows right values in Pivot, but when I want to use THAT value to calculate with cost column in Pivot. But it stills calculate with the sum from original sheet and not the value in The column in Pivot. Cost Center; A; B; Costs; Sum of A (formula (costs*A); FA30202; 0,75; 0,25; 3 656 793; 137 129 724; I want the answer 2 742 594. But as you see the answer Pivot gives me is 137 129 724 Here Excel takes number of times 0,75 is in base sheet (50 costelements)=37,5 Somebody having a suggestion for this.     - grouping by dates in pivottable Hi all, My dataset contains a column of start dates / times formatted as dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm I have created a pivot table with this field as the column headers. I would like to group all the data by Month and year so that my column headers would read: Jun 05 Jul 05 Aug 05 and then the data beneath these headings would be the total occurances in the month. I have done grouping in pivottables before but not with dates and I keep getting an error box saying "Cannot group selection".     - Copy Across Worksheets Hello, I am trying to create a workbook that has a large number of worksheets, which I have created using VBA to correspond with days & dates. I am now trying to copy the data in the first worksheet to the other 150+ sheets so they have the same core, this works great until I start to create lists in the first sheet. I get this error "cannot make changes to a list or xml mapping when multiple sheets are selected" does anybody know how I can achieve this either by creating a macro that is activated when the sheet is selected to turn the list selection on or by copying it over.     - Converting Hours into Days Hi, I have a number of task listed. For each task a certain number of hours have been assigned. The input of hours is done by Time(H,M,S) formula and formatted as [h]:mm:ss. After adding up the total hours for all the task, I would like to convert it into mandays.     - Excel Formula Help? OK I been screwing around with this on and off all day. Trying to write a little Excel formula that will compare two three digit numbers. The catch is it can match in any order as long as both numbers have the same three digits. I started by putting 1 digit in each cell so I can compare each digit of the three digit number, but run into problems.. Imagine a three digit number in cells C1,D1,E1 and then another number to compare it to in C4, D4,E4. I did this little diddy but it fails when the numbers have repeating digits - =If(C4=C1,1,IF(C4=D1,1,IF(C4=E1,1,0))) . This way I assign a value of 1 to a cell if it finds a match. I do this comparision in three different cells and assign each cell a 1 for a match and if my total is 3 then I know I have a match. Again, if there are repeating numbers it will fail like 301 compared to 113 because it will find the one twice and count it. I am sure there is a much simpler way to do this?? Any Excel experts care to comment? Thanks! Bottom line - what is the easiest way to compare two 3 digit numbers in any order? meaning 123 compared to 321 is a match since they both have the same 3 digits.     - A2 cell reference increment I want to reference a cell using some math: $B(1+1) which I would hope equals $B2 and the cell would then contai a reference to $B2. How does one perform math funtions to the row part of a reference? I what to be able to reference a cell that contains a cell reference So Cell A1 would contain the text B12 cell A2 would reference to cell A1 and show the contents of B12. and in cell A3, I want to show the contents of B13... but I want t take the contents of cell A1 and increment it from B12 to B13...     - Merging worksheets I have scoured the threads and the issue I am having with seems to be a popular one but I yet to find the exact resolution to my issue at hand. I am merging data from three excel worksheets which are created and exported from the same DB. The worksheets may contain up to 25 fields (columns) or more of customer data which are all tied from its account number. Now also, this customer account number may also have other 'customers' associated to it ie.. spouse ,co signer, gaurantors, dealer but not all! It is becuase of this,other relations to the account number, that the reports can be several hundred rows long becuase the report displays each account record as independent. The 'additional' customers are assigned a number to idenfy their relation to the acount and also display in this order on the worksheets: 1 - main customer (Smith , John ) 2 - spouse (Smith, Mary 3 - co signer (Williams, Steve) 4 - co signer spouse (Williams, Betty) . . .. 90 - selling store (Bobs Market) I am only concerned with identifying and reporting customers '1' '3' and '90' s. What would be the best approach to achieve the following results after merging all three worksheets since this will be a monthy process: 1) Delete or at least identify duplicate records when merging the worksheets 2) Keeping all of the header information intact ( need to display all header information on top after merging all the data and avoid duplicates) 3) If possible , when merging the data, combining names 1 & 3(if exist) in the same name field so that I only have two lines for the same account number as follows: Using example from atop: 1 main customer (Smith, John) (Williams, Steve) 90 Selling store (Bobs Market) I would appreciate any and all the help and suggestions.     - 4-Digit Date Conversion - Excel Using the Wrong Century I am importing client data from a UNIX database into an Excel worksheet. Approximately 10% of the clients' birthdates are converting over into the wrong century (ie., born 2028 instead of 1928). When you view the client data in the database, however, the 4-digit date of birth displays correctly as 1928.... so something is happening in the conversion process.     - Why can't I search for Excel files knowing a word somewhere inside it? Knowing that I had a spreadsheet with a sort macro in it somewhere that I created about a year ago, I used the search feature of File Explorer in WinXPPro to search for all files named *.xls, containing the word "sort" in a folder with subfolders I knew it should exist in, in a range of dates. The search did not find it, but after looking through my old emails I found the name of the file, found it in one of my folders, and it was named *.xls, it did contain the word "sort" as both a worksheet name and in the macro, and it was in one of the folders I searched in, and was in the date range I specified. I then searched again using several words I found in the file, the macro, or the headers, knowing that the search should find at least something, but it seems completely unable to search files based on content, only by file names or dates.     - Create an object from an excel file to insert Hi, I have a company logo and info on 3 lines in an excel sheet. I want to use this as a letterhead for all excel files that I print. I want to insert this letterhead as an object into another excel file but its not working as I would like it to. When I try to Insert an Object from file and select the excel file that has my letterhead it imports ok but the object containts 10 rows, 3 of which is my letterhead and the rest just empty rows. I just want those 3 rows and 5 columns to be imported. Setting the print area of the letterhead file doesn't make any difference. If I'm not clear enough of what I want to achieve, I can explain it more clearly.     - Protect Workbook vs Worksheet?? Hi, I'm using Excel 2003. I need to know what the purpose of Protect Workbook is under Tools | Protection. It gives 2 options, protect workbook for Structure and Windows. I understand the options and functionality under Protect Worksheet, and I thought that the Protect Workbook option would do the same for the whole workbook instead of individual worksheets. When trying this out, I protected a workbook, saved it, but was still able to edit it and resave without having to put in a password or even unprotect it.     - Rows inserted into a List will not sort properly I have a spreadsheet that is sorted first by department, then by number. The departments are sorting OK, but within some of the departments, the numbers are not being sorted properly. This is happening in departments where some rows have been inserted into the spreadsheet and data has been entered. In those departments, after running the sort, the numbers of the inserted rows appear first, followed by the remaining numbers. I've tried reformatting the cells and Iv'e also tried copying the sheet and pasting it into a new file, both to no avail. Any ideas? Excel 2003, Windows XP, all SPs applied.     - count cells wityh text? Need to count the number of filled (text)cells in a column on a different sheet. Tried =countif('!sheet2!'B1:B90<>"" but got syntax error. Despite the "fx helper", can't get the syntax right. It should return 59 (there are 59 names currently in the range). I range-named B1:B90 as "names" thinking that might help - no.     - hyperlinks I set up hyperlinks to link to photos in Excel 2003. The photos ar stored on My Docs. Everything worked fine for a few days. Then o friday, all my links appeared to be blocked for some reason. When click on the hyperlink, a pop-up box only appears with the path. I hav a few network computers connected to mine, and when I test from thei computers, the hyperlinks work fine. They are running Excel XP. thought perhaps it was my anti-virus, so I disabled it, but still n luck. If I open a blank worksheet and insert a hyperlink, it works. I am trying to setup a class scheduling workbook.

I want work sheets that represent weeks and then within that sheet have
separate tabs for the days of the week...can this be done?
ie I click on "week 1" tab and then I can select any of the days of the
week and that gives me my list of classes for that day.

No, this can't be done... why re-invent the wheel... look online for a
class scheduling workbook, I'm sure there are plenty out there that you
could use to start out with and have the ability to customize!
