Excel XP

I was working on a spreadsheet for a friend, and kept getting the "locked
for editing" error. The friend is on a standalone PC, and I was saving my
copy to the local hard drive.

We are both getting this error, even when we create new files from the old
one. Neither one of us is working on a network drive, and my friend isn't
even on a network.

Any ideas how to fix this other than constant rebooting?

TIA,

Doreen

Maybe one of these will help
http://www.contextures.com/xlfaqApp.html#ReadOnly
or
http://www.contextures.com/xlfaqApp.html#AlreadyOpen

(both from Debra Dalgleish's site.)
