    - Slow to copy I am trying to copy a set of data 33,000 rows X 9 columns. This data i the result of several VLOOKUPs and searches for unique entries. I takes about an 1:15 to run all the computations. Once done, I need t copy and paste special (values) into a new workbook. In my previou version of Excel this took about 2 seconds. In my curren configuration it takes about 5 minutes before the hourglass turns bac to an arrow allowing me to past the data. Is there some genera setting I need to change?     - copy exact formulas Is there a way to copy formulas EXACTLY as they appear, without the cell references moving around?     - Month function Hello, I have Excel 97 with the first service pack at home. I don't have an internet connection at home, so can't install the second service pack. Now that said... In A1 I have: 10/8/04 in A2 I have this: =MONTH(A1) A2 actually says "January" without the quotes. No matter what date I put in A1, A2 always says January. Is there any way at all to fix this? TIA!!!     - FileSearch The first time I tried this code, it worked really fast. However, afte a few more tries, it slowed down again. The problem was not the code it was that I had the ***Indexing Service option*** turned on in my X file search.     - How to represent a blank cell, NA(), "" does not work for me in this case Hi all, I've been trying to plot a chart so that the scatter plot wil not connect lines to a null point, I want the lines to connect t points that represent any number, from 0 to infinty. But if the cel has no value in it yet, I don't want it to be connected by a line t any other point. The points that are being connected are calculated by a formula, so th cell will never be blank. But only when it is blank will it do what I want. Any other way that try to represent a blank cell, it connects as if it were a 0. ("" doe not work) My question is, in the equation below, what should I put in place o "NA()" to best represent a true blank cell? =IF(OR(G3=0,G18=G7), NA(),G27/G3*1000000) There are 12 points, so if the values from the formula turn out to be N/A, N/A, N/A, N/A, N/A, 3, 8, N/A, N/A, 8, 9, 10; where N/A means tha it should be a blank cell. I'd like to have 3 and 8 connected, and 8 9, and 10 connected.     - Pivots: Grouping two fields (year, month) My pivot table contains two fields I need grouped: "Fiscal Year" and "Fiscal Month." Both field are numeric, not dates. The grouping would be like this: Fiscal Year (2003) and Fiscal Months (9-12) GROUPED WITH Fiscal Year (2004) and Fiscal Months (1-3) Is there a quick way to do this within the pivot?     - Forms and Input Data I created a report form on Sheet 1 and a set of input data on subsequen Sheets 2, 3, ... link to the report. The report is to show informatio on either of the data I select. Are there simple steps for me to pick either set of data I want t display on the report? I've thought of a pull-down menu so that if select "1", the report will show data set "1", and so on. Yet I don' know how to do it. I tried the "replace" command by highlighting al the cell in the Report sheet then type "2" in place of "1" to replac the data set then hitting Ctrl-Enter to make the change. However, thi create a problem because of the many similar number "1", "2", etc. have the the cells. I am a programming illiterate guy. Please help.     - summerizing formula for weekly lesson plans Hi, This is a request from a primary school headteacher and a good friend of mine. They use an excel sheet that shows the lesson plan for each teacher. Nothing special on it. But lately they needed some summerizing figures on the sheets. For each teacher, there are "names" in the region G10:K19 in its excel sheet. The names includes a part consisting of the "lesson name" itself and a part consisting the "class" that'l take it (For example "ScienceA1"). Thus the "name" data can easily be seperated because the "lesson name" is at the beginning and the "class" name always starts with a capital letter somewhere in the middle of the text. Now I wanna summerize this data for each teacher down somewhere on the sheet as follow: I want to list these lessons in the region from F24:I24 downwards such that: F24,F25,F26,...etc will be 1, 2, 3, ...etc the number of times a unique name is found in the region G10:K19. G24, G25, G26, ....etc will be each found different lesson name. H24, H25, H26, ...etc will be the involved class for that lesson (e.g A1, B2 etc). I24, I25, I26, ...etc will be the total count of each unique lesson in the region G10:K19. Can you suggest formulas or a macro to do it?     - row picking I have a large matrix if data made up of blocks of 8 rows of number across 12 columns with a blank row between each set There are 51 blocks of data, out of which I need to group each row fro each set together. e.g, i need to pick row 1 from each of the 51 set and put them together, row 2's all together, row 3 etc, down all rows.     - Print Title Columns This is a stupid thing that I'm pretty sure has no easy answer other than to hope MS adds it for 2005, but I guess it's worth seeing if anyone has a solution. I have a spreadsheet that has column A set as Print Titles and several columns that print on 2 pages with column A repeated as expected. At the bottom of the page, I have some foot notes that are on the page in column A, but they are wider than the column, therefore on page 2, the labels cut off. Most users will be looking at the file on screen, so I don't really want to put the notes in the print footnotes.     - solver I am running Excel 2002 on an XP computer with lots of ram and hard disk space. I can invoke and successfully run Solver once on a worksheet. When I try and rerun Solver to change constraints etc the computer ignores the request. If I save the worksheet and start over it will remember the previous solver and allow me to edit it. Each document must have a unique reference (e.g H04, H05, B01, B02 etc.). Hence, repeated references must not occur.     - Problem about the data refer path. Hi All, I do all the work on the network driver, says L:. For example, I have a excel file on the L driver, named XXX.xls. One field in the file is refer to a field in another file on the L driver in following path: L:\aaa\bbb\ccc.xls. But do not know when i find that this field in XXX.xls refer to a local file : C:\documents and setting\username\application data\microsoft\excel\xlstart\aaa\bbb\ccc.xls.     - Newbie Quest. On Pasting Data Between Two Spreadsheets Hello: Using Excel 97 SR 1 with W98. Pretty new at using spreadsheets, although I'm using a fairly old version. But, it's been doing pretty much what i want. Am stumped with this, however: I have copied 5 rows of contiguous data from one spreadsheet. I'd like to past these 5 lines into a second spreadsheet, betweeen rows of existing data. So, I insereted a blank row in the second spreadsheet where I want these 5 lines to start. I thought it would move all the following rows down to enable these 5 lines to be pastedthere. But it is overwriting the following 4 rows of data in this second spreadsheet, rather than moving them down to make room. Do i havbe to make room for the 5 lines first, by inserting 5 blank lines ?     - Advanced filter poor performance in Excel 2003 I have an advanced filter executed in VBA that worked great until upgrading to Excel 2003. When I put in criteria the first time, the filtering works fine, but when the criteria row is blanked out so that all rows are unhidden, it takes forever for that to happen. I suspect that every formula on the sheet is being recalculated. Is there a technical explanation for why this problem happens now?     - Cell formatting changed I have a workbook with 8 sheets in it... for some unknown reason, 1 of the sheets has lost all the formatting of the cells; i.e., the column that was dates now displays 37883 in the first cell, but the bar at the top shows 9/19/2003. The columns that used to be currency now show only numbers (40.9 instead of $40.90). I'm totaling cells across a row, and instead of the dollar total I'm now seeing =SUM(D4:F4). Have no idea what would have caused this... happened as if by black magic! All the other sheets in the workbook are fine. There are no links in this sheet to any other sheet. AND, I cannot reformat any of the cells. Sheet/workbook is not protected. I found that I could copy the offending worksheet and paste it into a new sheet and the new sheet displays correctly!     - Links and NA I use excel (excel 97 on a windows 2000 machine) to manage the patient care schedules of 10 physicians -- and having been doing so for years. 2 years ago, I started having problems with the links from the main worksheet (the working document where ALL changes are made) to the final worksheet which is month to month schedule and is the printed document that everyone else sees and uses. What happens is that when I open the month to month worksheet, frequently it will have NA values -- not consistently -- variably. Variably I can fix it through a variety of means (but the fixes are temporary) -- sometimes re-closing the final worksheet and reopening it will resolve the problem, sometimes reopening the main worksheet first, sometimes reopening the main worksheet last, sometimes refilling the final worksheet with the data. This occurs sometimes after changing data and other times after no changes in data -- just desiring to print a schedule (all print jobs are ONLY on the final month to month worksheet). If it matters, the print jobs always reflect what is in the worksheet - so I do NOT get a printed worksheet with NA values but no NA values in the linked on screen worksheet. I have usually linked the last month of the year to the first month of the next year ... because of these problems; I STARTED A BRAND NEW WORKBOOK FOR 2005. Virtually no data is in this new 2005 worksheet EXCEPT for inputed schedules for the last week of 2004 and first week of 2005 --- it is NOT linked to the 2004 schedule. YET -- I get the same variable result when I open the new 2005 final month to month worksheet (which is linked to a second worksheet which is linked to the initial 2005 schedule with a lot of extra columns. now the specifics: a) the main worksheet has 365 rows -- this main worksheet is the ONLY worksheet in which schedule changes are EVER made, all of the other worksheets are there for formatting issues b) each row is for each day of the year c) the first and second column are the dates of the year and the days of the weeks d) the next column is for a manually entered schedule such as 8:30-6, or 8:30-12:30/adm/1:30-5 or some other combination e) the next column 2 columns is a letter of the alphabet f) the next column (sometimes 2-3) contains a number g) each of d-f is repeated for EACH physician (about 3-6 columns per physician) this main worksheet is linked to second worksheet which ONLY contains columns c, d and e (NOT columns f) this second worksheet is then linked to one of 12 worksheets which is a monthly schedule. It is in THIS MONTHY worksheet which is in **a different workbook** and is accessible to everyone in which the NA values turn up. For some reason, where profit figures had a 1000 seperator (, on the website, when exported into excel the 1000 seperator became decimal point (.). Also, the profit figures taken from the website ar in GDP th i.e. excluding the last '000'. Therefore, please can you help me do the following: 1) Replace the unwanted decimal point (.) back to a 1000 seperato (,). 2) Add 000 to the end of the profit figures so that they are in writte in full.     - Weird Coding Hi, this is my first post and I was hoping that someone could help. My friend the other day installed a program that caused him to lose all of his excel files. Fortunately, he was able to do a system restore and was able to retrieve the files that were lost. However, upon opening them the files were filled with these weird script codes.
