I spend a lot of time converting Excel (Office 2002) files into HTML. The quickest way to clear off all the Microsoft formatting crud seems to be to save as a tab delimited .TXT file. This works well but it is extremely irritating that having saved as "tab delimited text" from Excel, that the same piece of software cant recognise its own file when you reopen it! It seems to default to Delimited and file origin "932: Japanese (Shift-JIS)" whereas what I want is file origin of: "1252 : Western European (Window)". However this requires clicking on the drop-down list (which always takes a while to fill up for some reason) and the scrolling to the bottom of the list...!     - Extracting data from pivot tables Hi, I am creating a chart using data from various pivot tables. In order to do this I am creating a data table using data extracted from the data tables upon which I will base my chart. In order to take the data from the pivot table I create a formula by typing = then going to the pivot table cell that I want. So far so good... however, is there a way that I can drag this formula across to pick up the next cell and the next etc (just like if you were doing a formula within excel) rather than having to create a new formula for each cell that I want to pickup?     - Excel: numbers in cells get divided by 100: all spreadsheets ... Hi, I have a strange problem that I don't know how to fix. I'm using Excel 2000. Something happened recently and I'm not sure why or how, but in every spreadsheet I have if one enters a number into a cell the number will be divided by 100 automatically. This happens in all my spreadsheets, so I thought Excel might have been corrupted somehow. I have reloaded Excel, actually "Office 2000", three times now and, also, I tried to delete any files that I thought might be related to Excel (before reloading again) but the problem remains. I've looked and tested all the menu items but I have not come upon a feature that causes the problem (or solves it). Could it be that every Excel file I have has been modified somehow so they all have this problem that I don't know how to get rid of? I'm almost at my wits end with this. I'm using MS Windows Me.     - Deleting Sheets Based on Name Ive got a macro which makes a large number of sheets with information in them.... Ive then got another macro which gets all the information from those sheets.... the problem is... im then left with all the sheets.. and I really want to delete them.....     - Help with a formula please. In column "A" I have about 400 file names with each path, for example: D:\Folio_02\AL605_02.xls Each file contains a value named "ATT" and another named "XBB". I need some help with my Statistics homework so if you're kind and/or valiant and/or bored enough to hand-hold a complete idiot through the process, I'll be so absolutely grateful! :) Okay, so in this assignment I have a spreadsheet file: Column A has a series of various numbers: A1 has 10; A2 has 30; A3 has 5; ..and on and on it goes. 1) In this assignment, I have to somehow make column B bring out the percentage difference from an arbitrary number (in this case 20) to the numbers in the A column. For instance, since A1 is 10; B1 will have to be -50% (since 10 is a 50% decrease of 20). And for B2, since A2 is 30, B2 should generate a 50% in its cell (since 30 is a 50% increase from 20). So how do I make Excel automatically generate the percentage differences for rest of the B column? 2) So after the B column gets filled out...is there a way for Excel to determine the probability that a certain percentage will occur, judging from what's spat out into the B column? For instance, one of the questions on my assignment asks for the probability that -45% will happen, judging from what's generated in column B... So how I do I input a formula/code for Excel to look through what's in the B column and determine how likely -45% (or any other percentage) happens? I know there're many ways Excel can figure out probabilities -- so if you'd be so kind to just hand-hold me through a basic approach, then mention any other methods that may yield better answers, I can look them up accordingly.) (Please don't be mean!     - Serious printing /cache problem I have an e-mail with an excel report of inventory i've sold. When I choose to open the e-mail (double clicking in outlook) it displays fine but when I print it, it prints a REALLY old version of that document... and I have no clue where it's getting it. The e-mail they send always has the same file name. Yet, even if I save the file to my desktop, open it from there the contents of the file looks just fine, but when I print, it prints some old information from a july version. Please help.     - Linking rows Hi, I was wondering if somebody could help me. I have an excel workbook full of members' data. In the columns I have things like name, address, telephone, email etc On each row I have a different member. In addition to the main sheet I have added worksheets for each country. So besides having the main sheet which has all the members, I also have several sheets for each country represented containing only the members that are from that country. I was wondering whether I could somehow link the main sheet with the worksheets for each country. The idea is that if I make changes in the mainsheet they would automatically change in the country sheets too or vice versa. Is this possible?     - VBA or Macro to auto fill a selected range Hello everyone, Here is my problem. I have a spreadsheet with four columns, which are variables nested within each other. What I am currently doing is going through a range, finding the blank cells, filling all the blanks with the value of the non-blank cell above it, and filling these blanks until I reach a non-blank cell. Simply put, all I am doing is clicking on the cell's handle and filling the blanks (it only fills the cells down until it finds a cell with a value). I am tediously going through each range of cells, autofilling down, and working from right to left. There must be an easier way where I can select the range of cells, run a macro, and it does the autofill for me. Any suggestions?     - lookup help Second try with this...I'll try to explain it better. I have a two-cell worksheet win workbook1. It is replaced every day, automatically with another two cell sheet in a new workbook with the same name. A1 is a date. B1 is number, eg. 1542. I want to automatically place the number into a cell in another workbook and sheet, by matching the date with dates in column A of the second sheet, and Column E (fillers)of the second sheet. I've been playing with match, offset and index, lookup etc. I've been able to get a number from DATE:E and have it show up in the first workbook.sheet, but that's the opposite of what I want to do. I can't have the formuala in the first workbook, because it will be overwritten each day. I would be thankful if someone could just point me in the right direction.     - Pivot table help I think ! Hi All, I have a report I need to create which goes as follows. I have a data list of around 56k records. The rows contain this; category 1, category 2, category 3, call id and Date I've created a pivot table with Cat1, cat2, cat 3 on the row area, Count of Call ID in the data area and date in the column area (this is grouped by Month). I'm looking at the months of Mar, Apr and May. I want to sort it, in descending order, by the difference of 'Count of Call ID' there is between Mar and May. If I cannot perform the calculation in the pivot table, is there a way of ungrouping the fields in a pivot table?     - Filtering a worksheet if same value found in differnet columns Ok a little confusing to explain. I have a spreadsheet set up, where differnet columns may contain the same values for example: Col1 Col2 Col3 Item1 A Item2 H Item3 B A Item4 G H Item5 A What i would like to do is be able to filter on conditions if a value is found in either Col2 or Col3, for example "A" which would return item1, item3 and item5. I've not played to much with filters but would love to get this working. At the moment where there are duplicate contract no's the same rebate is entered into all rebate fields for that same contract no (in other words there can be other 'machines' with the same contract no). So the rebate is being shown per machine where the value present is actually per contract. If there are no duplicates, then that simply means that there is only 1 machine on the contract. But where there are duplicate contract no's (individual serial no's), the rebate value needs to be divided up by ratio using the rental value. How can I easily do this? Preferably in 1 step. (so identify the duplicates, take the rebate for them all (which is repeated on each record for each machine on the dup contract, so its only nes to take it from 1 rebate field of a machine), then divide this value up using the rental value as the ratio (each one has a different rental value) and then dispaly the rebate for each.     - Validating Cells When validating cells, how do I set it so that you cannot leave a cell blank, i.e. it has to contain a number, even if the number is zero. I want a warning message to come up - I know how to do this, but I've tried different criteria and it always seems to allow having a blank cell, when I just want a zero in it instead, if it is to be blank.     - Save behavior while in Edit/Enter mode Excel's save behavior is different on my home pc from its behavior at work. At home, Excel will save the document even if I'm in edit or enter mode in a cell. At work, where we have a document management system, Excel will only save when in Ready mode.     - Deleting Blocks of cells causes #ref! error Hello all- I have a large workbook , rather heavily automated with VBA. It is basically a time card for multiple people for a week. Each person is a block of cells 12 rows by 15 columns and these blocks repeat down the form for each person, as many as 200 or so. I want to be able to delete one person at a time, namely a block of cells but I run into Excels #ref! error. Since many of the cells look up to their twin in the person above, due to repeating rates of pay, dates, etc... and when those cells no longer exist, I get the error, all the way down to the end from wherever I delete the block.     - Define a dynamic range from a specific starting point in a list I am having trouble defining a range name that uses the offset function to define a range from a specified starting date within a list of dates to the last date in the list.     - Importing Dynamic data Hi I have some tables in various xl files, call the files a,b and c. I want to import all these into a single xl file called e. If changes are made to a,b or c I want it to automatically update e. I have used the import function in d but if I change a,b or c to see the change I have to select the data in d and press refresh. Furthermore when I refresh d i have to have files a,b and c open otherwise it says connection lossed and is unable to refresh the data. I used to be able to open two instances of Excel such that I could look at
two workbooks at the same time with dual-monitors running. Anyone know how
I can get this kind of setup back?

Create another shortcut to excel.exe and double click that to start another
instance.

Or

windows start button|run
excel
(and hit enter)
