    - Print Title Columns This is a stupid thing that I'm pretty sure has no easy answer other than to hope MS adds it for 2005, but I guess it's worth seeing if anyone has a solution. I have a spreadsheet that has column A set as Print Titles and several columns that print on 2 pages with column A repeated as expected. At the bottom of the page, I have some foot notes that are on the page in column A, but they are wider than the column, therefore on page 2, the labels cut off. Most users will be looking at the file on screen, so I don't really want to put the notes in the print footnotes. I've been thinking about an On Print macro that copies the cells to the footnotes, but thought I would check here for an easier answer. kcc Tag: Number Formatting Tag: 47831

    - solver I am running Excel 2002 on an XP computer with lots of ram and hard disk space. I can invoke and successfully run Solver once on a worksheet. When I try and rerun Solver to change constraints etc the computer ignores the request. If I save the worksheet and start over it will remember the previous solver and allow me to edit it.     - Not allow entering repeated references in a column - HOW? I have a table to register incoming documents. Its references ar introduced in a column. Each document must have a unique reference (e.g H04, H05, B01, B02 etc.). Hence, repeated references must not occur. What should I do to make sure that repeated references are no introduced in the column... or alternatively, what should I do to mak the system alert the user when he/she is introducing an existen reference?     - Problem about the data refer path. Hi All, I do all the work on the network driver, says L:. For example, I have a excel file on the L driver, named XXX.xls. One field in the file is refer to a field in another file on the L driver in following path: L:\aaa\bbb\ccc.xls. But do not know when i find that this field in XXX.xls refer to a local file : C:\documents and setting\username\application data\microsoft\excel\xlstart\aaa\bbb\ccc.xls.     - Newbie Quest. On Pasting Data Between Two Spreadsheets Hello: Using Excel 97 SR 1 with W98. Pretty new at using spreadsheets, although I'm using a fairly old version. But, it's been doing pretty much what i want. Am stumped with this, however: I have copied 5 rows of contiguous data from one spreadsheet. I'd like to past these 5 lines into a second spreadsheet, betweeen rows of existing data. So, I insereted a blank row in the second spreadsheet where I want these 5 lines to start. I thought it would move all the following rows down to enable these 5 lines to be pastedthere. But it is overwriting the following 4 rows of data in this second spreadsheet, rather than moving them down to make room. Do i havbe to make room for the 5 lines first, by inserting 5 blank lines ?     - Filtering within a pivot table I have a pivot table that is a ranking based on dollar sales. When I change to a different geography many products with "0" sales will show up in the pivot table.     - Advanced filter poor performance in Excel 2003 I have an advanced filter executed in VBA that worked great until upgrading to Excel 2003. When I put in criteria the first time, the filtering works fine, but when the criteria row is blanked out so that all rows are unhidden, it takes forever for that to happen. I suspect that every formula on the sheet is being recalculated. Is there a technical explanation for why this problem happens now?     - Cell formatting changed I have a workbook with 8 sheets in it... for some unknown reason, 1 of the sheets has lost all the formatting of the cells; i.e., the column that was dates now displays 37883 in the first cell, but the bar at the top shows 9/19/2003. The columns that used to be currency now show only numbers (40.9 instead of $40.90). I'm totaling cells across a row, and instead of the dollar total I'm now seeing =SUM(D4:F4). Have no idea what would have caused this... happened as if by black magic! All the other sheets in the workbook are fine. There are no links in this sheet to any other sheet. AND, I cannot reformat any of the cells. Sheet/workbook is not protected. I found that I could copy the offending worksheet and paste it into a new sheet and the new sheet displays correctly!     - Links and NA I use excel (excel 97 on a windows 2000 machine) to manage the patient care schedules of 10 physicians -- and having been doing so for years. 2 years ago, I started having problems with the links from the main worksheet (the working document where ALL changes are made) to the final worksheet which is month to month schedule and is the printed document that everyone else sees and uses. What happens is that when I open the month to month worksheet, frequently it will have NA values -- not consistently -- variably. Variably I can fix it through a variety of means (but the fixes are temporary) -- sometimes re-closing the final worksheet and reopening it will resolve the problem, sometimes reopening the main worksheet first, sometimes reopening the main worksheet last, sometimes refilling the final worksheet with the data. This occurs sometimes after changing data and other times after no changes in data -- just desiring to print a schedule (all print jobs are ONLY on the final month to month worksheet). If it matters, the print jobs always reflect what is in the worksheet - so I do NOT get a printed worksheet with NA values but no NA values in the linked on screen worksheet. I have usually linked the last month of the year to the first month of the next year ... because of these problems; I STARTED A BRAND NEW WORKBOOK FOR 2005. Virtually no data is in this new 2005 worksheet EXCEPT for inputed schedules for the last week of 2004 and first week of 2005 --- it is NOT linked to the 2004 schedule. YET -- I get the same variable result when I open the new 2005 final month to month worksheet (which is linked to a second worksheet which is linked to the initial 2005 schedule with a lot of extra columns. now the specifics: a) the main worksheet has 365 rows -- this main worksheet is the ONLY worksheet in which schedule changes are EVER made, all of the other worksheets are there for formatting issues b) each row is for each day of the year c) the first and second column are the dates of the year and the days of the weeks d) the next column is for a manually entered schedule such as 8:30-6, or 8:30-12:30/adm/1:30-5 or some other combination e) the next column 2 columns is a letter of the alphabet f) the next column (sometimes 2-3) contains a number g) each of d-f is repeated for EACH physician (about 3-6 columns per physician) this main worksheet is linked to second worksheet which ONLY contains columns c, d and e (NOT columns f) this second worksheet is then linked to one of 12 worksheets which is a monthly schedule. It is in THIS MONTHY worksheet which is in **a different workbook** and is accessible to everyone in which the NA values turn up. When I try to open the 2002 spreadsheet in Excel 2003, I can only see a portion of the spreadsheet and cannot scroll.     - Excel not unhighlighting selection I am experiencing an issue with 2 PC's that are having the same issue. When the user goes to select cells, Excel doesn't release the selection box and the user is unable to 'release' the selection box, no matter what they do. Even killing Excel and reopening didn't stop the matter. The users have to restart the PC in order to get it to work and even then, it comes back. This is happening in Excel 2000 & 2003.     - Odd character I have a file that has been exported from Outlook to an Excel file. In some of the address fields the Address1 and Address2 lines are separated by some character that does not seem to be recognized by Excel. In the cell it looks like a 'pipe' character that is bold...sometimes 2 of them. In the Formula Bar it appears to be a small box. It also pushes this Address2 to a second line in the formula bar.     - 'Ghost' Link In Workbook Sometimes, when I open a workbook, I get a window telling me that th book has an outside link to another book, though I'm not aware o having linked it.     - Adding a row and relative addresses - how to make work like lotus. Hello, I am an old lotus 123 user who hasn't really done any cell functions in excel. I am trying to put together a simple spreadsheet to run an ongoing calculation using the following formula: =IF(ISBLANK(C8),IF(ISBLANK(D8),"",+E6+D8),IF(ISBLANK(D8),+E6-C8,"Error")) Basically I want to do the following taking out the formating parts of the formula: =SUM(D2-B3+C3) and that is the formula populating cell D3. I am then copying that formula down the sheet (say from D3 through D10). So far so good. But when I try to insert a row or do a mass cut and past to "open up a row" (say at row D5 which would then extend the sheet to row D11) excel doesn't move the relative position of the formulas. It's almost as if excel doesn't "Get" that I've inserted the row and adjust the formulas like Lotus does. Obviously I'm doing something wrong. After the row insertion or the cut and past operation I *should* receive errors in my formulas until I put a formula value in cell D5. But that doesn't happen. Excel keeps the formula that used to ocupy D5 (now occupying D6) still looking at D4 when it should have adjusted all those cells (D6 - D11) to key off a non existant (as of yet) value in the "new" cell D5. This, of course, means I have to recopy *all* of the formulas back down the D row instead of just copying the formula to the one cell. What am I doing wrong? TIA Tag: Number Formatting Tag: 47671

    - Using Media Player to play hyperlink sounds I'm putting together a sound document that has hyperlinks to sounds o the server. At the moment, clicking on a link will play the sound i Excel but no sound controls such as stop, pause etc appear. I want all the cells in my worksheet to have the accounting format wit
any $0 dollar entries to appear as a "-". Some of the cells have a "0
or "(0)" instead. I have copied the proper formats to all cells bu
can't seem to get them all to look the same. I'm not sure why this i
happening. Any ideas?

The value is probably not zero but it is less than your display is showing.
If you use the accounting format with no decimal places and the value in the
cell is less than 0.5 it will display "0". If you enter a 0 in the cell it
will display "-".
