    - Top N list with "all others" Greetings all, I wish to evaluate a list of customers. I have 500 orders from approximately 30 unique customers. I wish to create a list such as "Top Ten" and then place the remainin 20 or so in a row called "All others" and have their count noted. In my Pivot Table I have a row field called "customers" and the dat field is "Count of customers" For those of you that are "Intuit Quicken" users you might know what mean. When you graph expenses, the top 10 categories are shown wit the last category being called "All other" with this one being a su total of all the categories not in the top 9.     - INDEX and MATCH formula problem Hi all, I have this formula which I am using to match a value un Sheet1 against the first section of the value in Sheet2.     - Auto fill-in more than one column with words Hi, the problem I have is this. Let's say you have three columns. Country, Currency, Company. If I fill in the country column "Japan", is there a way to have i automatically fill in "Yen" in the currency column? Also - if the company is already filled in - is there a program I ca create or run that will go through thousands of lines of data so tha it auto fills in "Japan" and "Yen"?     - E-mailing Workbook This may be more correctly an Outlook problem and if so then please accept my apologies for being off topic but it only happens in Excel not Word so I am thinking that it is a setting in Excel that is causing it. One particular user at my work attaches a workbook, (XL 2002 on Windows XP), by simply clicking on the paperclip and the XL workbook. When the (various) recipients opens the attachment it opens, (after a longer than normal pause), and then the e-mail header, (To, CC, etc.), appears between toolbars and the sheet. Clicking on the e-mail button on the toolbar hides/deletes the e-mail header, as does selecting View > Toolbars > Customize. Clicking the toolbar button again, (or exiting Customize), brings the header back. The user used to be able to send attachments normally and she says that she has not altered any settings - as she says "I 'm not experienced enough to alter things" - this just means that she wouldn't know if she did. I can't find any setting that she has changed - I cut my teeth on XL95 so that just means that I am not experience enough on XL2002 to know what I am looking for! Does anyone know what could be causing it. The toolbar will indicate protected cells but I cannot find a way to indicate whether a worksheet is protect without manually checking.     - Multiply two series and add results I have a large workbook with many sheets for each charge number on a project. I had to copy and paste a sheet into the workbook and am trying to remove the links to the original workbook. I have, in addition to the sheet for each charge number, a sheet with pay rates for each person. I need to multiply two columns of information together: the hours for each person * the pay rate for each person. The formula that was in the sheet (and on every single other sheet in the chart) is this: =SUM(C3:C24*'Costs'!$C3:$C24) (With 'Costs' being the sheet with payrates on it.) This formula produces valid answers for everysingle sheet in the workbook except for the one that was copied and pasted. I have tried several variations to this formula, with quotes and without, with dollar signs and without, extra parentheses, etc. Nothing seems to work. I have also tried copying the formula from another sheet in the workbook (where it does work) and I still get #VALUE for my answer. It says "A value used in the formula is of the wrong data type". However, they are numbers. They are formatted as 'accounting' with no decimal. (The same format as all the other pages.) I can't seem to figure out why this formula comes up invalid. Also, in a group of rows just above this error, I have a similar row, multiplied by the price of each individual person. And this formula is identical to the one I'm using just below, but refering to another series on the costs sheet: =SUM(C3:C24*Costs!$C29:$C50) I have noticed that some of the formulas, when I click on the cell looks like this in the formula bar: {=SUM(C3:C24*Costs!$C3:$C24)} However, as soon as I click in the formula bar to edit, the outside {brackets} disappear. I have tried manually placing them in the formula for this problem row - and it just makes the formula appear as text entered. How do I get rid of this error?? Please help!!!     - Formula For Adding Variable Number Of Cells Required How can I get Excel to add up the components of each invoice in a lis where the total of each invoice is one made up of any number of smalle sums? For example, I could have invoice numbers 1 to 3 in Column A and thei sums in Column B: Invoice number 1 could have 3 sub entries of 5,6,7 (in cells B1-B3) Invoice number 2 could have 1 sub entry of 4 (in B4) Invoice number 3 could have 5 sub entries of 3,4,5,6,7 (in B5-B9) I would require Column C to have at the last entry of Invoice 1 (C3 the sum of 18; at the entry of Invoice 2 (C4) the sum of 4; and, at th last entry of Invoice 3 (C9) the total of 25.     - Named Formula Problem I like to put calculations that are used in more than 1 place in a Name so that if I need to change them I can just change them in one place. However there is one calculation that will not work when it is referred to by name, always returning the #VALUE error. Exactly the same calculation in a cell works perfectly. Find the lowest number in column A (75 in row 1 in the above example) 2. Discard the number in corresponding cell in column B (70 in cell B1) 3. From the remaining numbers in column B, discard the highest (83 in cell B5) 4.     - Formatting cell problem Hi, I have a column which I've converted from the default format to numeric. Upon doing so, most of the cells in that column display their contents as left-aligned, while the rest display their contents as right-aligned. While this may not seem significant, when I try to import this table to Access, the cells that are left-aligned cause a Type Format Error (as if they're not numeric). I've gone back and double-checked both types of cells (left/right-aligned) in this Excel column, and all show up as being numeric. Does anyone know what could be my problem here?     - Import all data as TEXT? Hi all... Long-time lurker here. On a regular basis, I need to import large data sets into excel that are CSV or fixed-width files. A number of the columns in these files get 'jumbled' by Excel if I don't set the appropriate columns to be imported as 'text'. My question is: Is there a way to tell excel to import/open *all* columns in a give file as text automatically? Some of these data sets have a lot of columns, and it takes *FOREVER* to set each column individually to text using the little import screen (can only select one column @ a time).     - Can this VBA for work on text files be modified for a different job ? I have been using the code below (which, from memory, came from the M-Soft site before I hashed it about) successfully to open 2 text files, appending the whole of one file to the end of the other, then deleting the source file. Now a new task is to; - update all text files in a specified folder by appending a new record. This is to be a daily routine, and there should end up being about 800 to 1000 text files to be updated. - The information for the record that is appended to each file comes from a single text file each day (source file). - The first column of this 'source file' holds a 3 character stock symbol. This symbol needs to be used to find the right destination file which is named the same as the 3 charaters & "tv.txt". - The source file is named with a date "yymmdd" & ".txt". This provides the first column of the record being appended to the found 'destination file'. The second, and last, column of the new record comes from a looking up of the value next to the associated symbol in the source file. - Not any of these files should be "Killed" as per the ccode below. Preventative measures; - the delimiting is different between the files. 'Comma' in the source file, and 'space' in the destination. - If a destination file is not found then it could be created. - If there is no record in the source file for an existing destination file then the date recorded should be made with an associated 0 value in the second column. Here's a sample of a 'Source File' named < 040531.txt > ; NAB,1728 WBC,1087 AMP,892 AWE,675 TAH,546 SUN,430 FGL,418 MAP,311 BOQ,311 ACU,307 BLD,303 Here's a sample of 'Destination File' named < ACUtv.txt > ; 040521 243 040524 120 040525 162 040526 449 040527 114 040528 167 -so the next appended record for ACUtv.txt should be; 040531 307 Here's the code I have been using to append the whole of one text file to the end of another, which I'm hoping can be modified for above, and would dearly appreciate some pointers for adapting.     - Relative formatting I created an excel file which extracts information from several workbooks. In one column, the addressing is relative (i.e.: ='[file_name1.xls]Spreadsheet_name'!$B$25), while in other columns the address is absolute (i.e.: ='C:\Documents and Settings\SaarB\My Documents\[file_name1.xls]Spreadsheet_name'!$B$25). How can I turn all addresses to relative format? This is essential so that when copying the files to another computer, the file identifies all other excel files which it is linked to.     - labels assoc. w/specific data point I would like to carry a label with a specific data point on a lin graph. I keep track of my blood pressure on a spreadsheet. I use a lin chart. I keep notes next to the data column of things that affect i such as starting/stopping a medication or stressful circumstances an show it to my doctor. It would help if I could show those note somehow on the graph. I know I can insert a text label on the chart much like a title. Bu that doesn't work very well because when I add more data on the sam page, the graph shifts so the label isn't associated with the same dat point anymore. I have about 4 years worth of daily data for this. Currently I handwrite the notes on the graph which is tedious and no very accurate. Idea to solve this: (1) Is there a way to put have a label that ca be carried next to the data point on the line? (2) Is there a way t put in a second label on the x-axis along with the date? (3) Can create a 2nd x-axis that runs on the top of the graph with differen labels? (4) Is there a way to plot a column with text in it? I have excel 97. The x-axis is set as column A (date) and data point in columns B & C. The data is a single number in mmHg for bloo pressure. Col D is a notes column that isn't in the graph. I hav created 4 charts, each covering different lengths of time, whole 4 yrs whole 4 yrs broken into two pages, last 6 months, last 3 months. You could check the printer manufacturer's web site, and download the
latest copy of the print driver for your operating system.

thanks Debra but that doesn't help either. Printing from other office
products r ok but not Excel though. Tried reinstalling and re-adding
new printer drivers but no luck.

I've never seen anything like this.

If you print a brand new worksheet, do the s's come out ok?

If you change fonts, do they come out ok?

Just things to try (or eliminate) before you find the real answer!
