    - Strange data entry behavior Helping a friend sort this problem.... Type a whole number in a cell, hit enter, and it appears there and in the edit bar divided by 100, viz 436 shows (and calculates) as 4.36 Enter a number with a decimal and there's no problem. The cell formatting is OK; the regional settings are correct; when the sheet is transferred to another PC the numbers appear correctly. This happens in every new worksheet. Any ideas?     - concatenating a formula with a statement Hi everyone, I'm trying to do a simple IF statement that tells me if something doesn't balance but I want the directive to tell me how much it is out by. Here's what I have: =IF(SUM(F7:H7)<>I7,"ERROR - Does Not Balance","") Instead of the result being "ERROR - Does Not Balance" I want to make the result "ERROR - Does Not Balance. Out by x" with x being the difference in the the values of the 2 cells referenced in the first part of the IF statement. Any suggestions would be greatly received.     - Locked workbook... Hi I have a workbook with 6 sheets. 3 sheets are spreadsheets and the other 3 are somewhat complicated charts. While editing one of the charts recently (I was adding data to the charts) I received an exception error and the program exited. When I tried to open the workbook I got a message that the workbook was locked and that I could only open it for Read-only. Is there an easier solution than to open as Read-only, save to another filename and delete the original one? Also, how do I prevent this from happening the next time that I try to edit the charts? I made some mistakes, and tried to delete the macros, but the error message said I couldn't in a "hidden" workbook.     - Formatting a cell to show just calculated value? I have alpha characters in Column AA, numeric values in Column AB, and a formula in Column B to combine the two. The formula is: =AA2&AB2. For example, if the value in Column AA is XYZ, and value in Column AB is 789, the formula will place XYZ789 into B2. Question: How can I format B2 after the formula has placed XYZ789 into the cell, so there isn't the above formula, rather, I would like it to show only XYZ789 because I do not wish to send Columns AA and AB with the spreadsheet.     - Using SUM to calculate values of cells containing formulae Hi I'm new to this forum so "Hello" to everybody. I've had a look aroun the forum but I can't seem to find the answer to my problem. I'm sur it must be possible but I've tried everything I know short of writing Macro. I hope one of you wonderful people will be able to help, I can' believe I am the first person to come up against this problem Here's the problem (somewhat simplified) ; I have a column of cells containing the following formulae Cell 1 (K2) =VLOOKUP(I2,$A2:$E34,5) Cell 2 (K3) =VLOOKUP(I3,$A35:$E103,5) Cell 3 (K4) =VLOOKUP(I4,$A104:$E176,5) which looks up the value contained in cells I2, I3 & I4 and returns th corresponding values from the range specified into cells K2, K3 & K4 So far so good - but now I want to total the 3 cells up i.e. K2 + K3 K4 If I use SUM it gives a value of 0 and most other things return a error. I've tried various ways of converting the formula to a value b adding INT, or by using CELL but nothing seems to work. Please help as I am tearing my hair out, and I don't have much left!     - Your Input Needed! Hello All, I need your input. I made program in Excel and all is working great. My problem: I need a way to produce a summary of the daily activities. We are using a seperate file for each transaction. We are in the recycling business. We buy 25 different items. These are purchased by weight. On my original SS that is used for each transaction I have dropdowns where you can select the commodity and put the weight and through the use of SUMIF and validation it carries the weight to the proper commodity. This is an example what I am trying to do: 1st customer of the day brings his items, iron, tin, cans, etc. (could be as many as 25 different commodities). We save this file as say "t57(081704)". 2nd customer, same deal. File saved as "t58(081704)". I would like to create a file that I could have all 25 commodites listed and have the SS user go back in and fill out entering for example, Iron - (put the weight from the t57(081704) and then from the next ticket. I am wondering if there is a way that he could go to the cell and just type in all of the amounts for each commodity. We may have as many as 50 or 60 customers in a day. I need all of this to be on one sheet. Well at least the summary part. I am not the person filling out the tickets.     - Switching Names Around Hey gurus- I am getting a list of names imported into Excel. All the names are in the order of LAST NAME FIRST MI/[SPOUSE] FIRST [SPOUSE] MI. All of them have their last name at the beginning, and they're all merged into the same cell.     - removing excell completely I had created some cutome tool bars that were working great for me. Suddenly one day, they disappeared. I had these custom tool bars attached to the spreadsheet. When I open the spreadsheet up on a nother computer, they will appear. I can not get them back nor can I totally un-install Excell on my main computer. I have gone through add/remove programs, I have tried to use the Office XP un-install, I have even used offclean.exe and nothging seems to remove Excell off of the computer. How in the world can I get Office XP off of my system as though it never existed or in the alternative, get my custom tool bars to re-appear. The macro works, however, the results are rounded and the decimals are not taken into account.     - Formulas do not refresh anymore Has anynone encounter this problem in MS Excel in Office XP?? I use a spreadsheet that basically adds up numbers and gives me a tota on the bottom. Today it stopped doing that. I change numbers and th total stays unchanged unless I highlight the total's cell, put th cursor in the formula bar on top at the end of the formula and hi ENTER. We keep track of shipments coming in that are 1) either for customers or "STOCK" 2) a certain amount of cubic footage. This is what I'm inquiring...     - Adding noncontiguous ranges as series in xyscatter chart Hi, I'm trying to add data to a serie using Visual Basic for applications. The data exist in noncontiguous ranges for both x-values and y-values. I would like to add several series in this way and have tried the following: Dim newSerie As Series Set newSerie = newChart.SeriesCollection.NewSeries newSerie.Values = Union(yColumn, yCell) newSerie.xValues = Union(xColumn, xCell) I think the problem is that the ranges are noncontiguous but don't understanf why it doesn't work. It is no problem to add data like this by hand using the addSeries-function in the Chart-wizarard. I have also tries the Extend function for the seriesCollection by first sdding one range and then trying to extend with the other but don't get how I can specify which serie the new data should be added to.     - Excel 2003, problem with UK date format using OLE I have a C++ package that sends data to a spreadsheet using OLE. The package works okay in Excel 97 and Excel 2000 systems, but has a problem with Excel 2003. In Excel 2003 the "Date" column is not recognised as a date when the "Locale" is "UK" (left as "General"), but date is recognised okay when the "Locale" is "US". If I just manually enter the date in "UK" it is recognised okay. I have about 15 cells in a coliumn where the text is too long for the column width I selected these cells and made sure word wrap was checked and they were all formatted the same. I already made some test are here is the result:
I have 3.56MB of excel file with chart

I have remove Linked value to different files and reduce the file size to
2.4MB

Removed objects and unused formula and the file reduce to 2.26 from 2.4MB

I conclude that these factors have huge contribution on making excel file
size grow
