    - How Do I create a Timing Tool All, I wonder if I can call on your expert advice. I am looking to create a Timing Tool within Excel which will be able to capture timings of specific user defined areas. For Example looking to time specific sections of say for a telephone call and the interaction the agent has with the Computer System..how long specific actions take...and then from that be able to submit the data into a sheet..and move on to another one.     - Changing the contents of a cell... dynamically? I am wanting to do something that I don't know if it is possible. Here is the scenario... Say cell A10 gets data (numbers) entered into it, for this example lets say 100, after the focus moves from the cell I want 25 to be automatically subtracted from the number so that it is actually is 75.     - Latitude Longitude formula ? Hello... I am new here and am looking for some advise on a formula for Latitude and Longitude. I am using Excel 97 and I am making a sea log for my husband. I have figured out how to change metric Lat/Long (DDD) into normal Lat/Long (DMS = degree, minutes, seconds). A metric Lat/Long reading would look like this: 48.367123 by 124.6112. The normal reading most people are accustom to seeing looks like this: 48°22'02" by 124°36'44". In order to make Excel change the metric reading into DMS first you have to divide the metric reading by 24, that coding would be =(A1/24). I got that to work fine. Then you have to Custom format your cells to show: [h]°mm'ss\" I got that to work just fine also. My readings show as the DMS such as 48°22'02" which is what I want. My problem is that I need the seconds portion to read in the hundredths... three number places (.000) not just two number places (.00). I can't figure out the formula for this and I haven't been able to find it anywhere on the Internet either. If I try adding another "s" to the second portion of the formula, I still only get two number places... (.00) it won't add the third place. If I try using "mmm" instead of "sss" it gives me the month... of course as that is the coding for a month. If I try "ddd" it gives me the day... because of the day coding.     - Maximum size of data range I keep rainfall records and now have 28 years' worth. I now note that the top of the highest stacked bar of each month's rainfall protrudes through the top of the chart box and does not contain that month's colour. It would seem that 28 years is one more than Excel can handle (i.e the data range is too long). Does anyone agree or disagree with this, or do I have a fault?     - Scatter chart data labels PROBLEM 1 We have data we want to display on a scatter chart. There are three elements: 1) Name of customer 2) Square feet of area 3) Time used The square feet and time used are the principal data to chart (data series). However, we would like to also display the name of the customer beside the dot on the chart. Can this be done? PROBLEM 2 A linear trendline including formula display is useful for us. However, I want to add additional lines by formula. Is there a way to do this? For example, I might add a line where y = 0.00078x + 12.3 Actually, it would be better for Excel to add 3 linear trendlines: 1) Midway in the 'time used' data, as it does now 2) Split halfway between the highest and mid-point for the 'time used' 3) Split halfway between the lowest and teh mid-point for the 'time used' Any pointers, such as where to start?     - Linking data from other worksheets to formula I am trying to do something that I know is very simple, but just doesn' seem very intuitive with Excel. I have a series of worksheets that hav data in them over various months. I have a total spreadsheet that would like to be able to agregrate all of the the data from the othe worksheets into a summary page. For example, I have utilization number for each month of the year on the other worksheets and would like t take the utilization for each month so that I could take data from eac on the other worksheets and add them together and be represented as on cell on the total page.     - Keyboard problem: kinda Excel-related My keyboard is acting a bit funny. In Excel, when I start with the letter "g", it acts as though I pressed the "Alt" key instead. I have had this happen with my laptop at work by accidentally pressing a function key and then some of the letters become numbers for those who want to use that as a keypad. But I have never had it happen on my home PC which is a desktop with a Dell keyboard. Did I press some funny sequence of keys to get this out of whack? I've tried rebooting without success, what else can I try? BTW, I've had this for 3 1/2 years without incident. But in the mid-80's, my work computer used to experience the same problem. There was a sequence of keys that caused something to be reprogrammed in the keyboard. I cannot remember what it was (obviously), but I feel fairly certain that I am dealing with the same thing once again. Also, the "G" key works fine here in Outlook Express, it is in Excel where the uppercase G works but the lowercase G does not (acting like the "Alt" key and giving me menu access).     - File does not open... Hi, I've encountered a strange problem today with some files not opening. If a file location or file name contained spaces excel would give a series of errors and would not open it... Eg. when I try to open a file c:\my documents\my excel file.xls it would yield a series of error messages like below: Excel could not open c:\my.xls Excel could not open documents.xls Excel could not open my.xls However, if I take out the spaces, it does open.     - Entering a cell value in a reference Win98SE / Excel 2000 / Basic level user I have what I think must be a fairly simple question... I have our sales figures for the past 3 years entered on a spreadsheet in columns. Column A has figures for 2004, B is 2003, etc. There are 52 rows, one for each week of the year. I use the figures in B, C and D to help predict what our sales are going to be this year based on previous years performance to date. I would like to enter a number in one cell and use it as part of the cell reference in other cells. For example, I would enter "4" in one particular cell and then have formulas that would calculate the sum of cells up to the 4th week (=sum(B1:B[value in other cell]). I don't know if this will complicate the issue, but my actual weeks are four rows greater than the row number (Week 1 is in Row 4 and Week 4 is in Row 8) so I'm guessing my formula would be =sum(B4:[value in other cell]+4. In a separate spreadsheet I want to look up from the above table - b part number AND date and return both the date and any open work order for each part number for the specific date. This forms the productio schedule. It should look something like this: 2/16/04 2/23/04 3/1/04 3/8/04 Part No. 9475 8479 8680, 8830 Part No. 9478 8750 8681, 8963 Part No. XXXX I've tried doing hlookups with an offset to pull the work order numbe in but I can't seem to get it to work. It doesn't seem tha complicated but I guess I'm not quite grasping the offset syntax. simply want it to lookup the part number, look up the date below it and then look up the work order number that is one column to the righ of that date. I am pulling each date into a separate cell in th target spreadsheet, so the lookup itself is easy. But why is th offset giving me such a hard time (#Value, #N/A, - you name it). Thanks for any help!     - Format text not all caps I am doing a mail merge from an xls file into word. The excel file that I purchased is in all caps, ie JOHN SMITH. I would like to change the xls file to be John Smith. I see from excel Help something called Proper, but it doesn't tell me how to apply it to columns or cells. How do I do this??? I have no problme actually performing the mail merge. Other question is that if I try to "build" a formula from different cells. Only way that I have thought is to copy it and then I paste it using "values" and after this I still have to go and press enter on it.     - Looking for a program to extract Excel data to txt files I have a collection of spreadsheets (over 1000) all based on an invoice template. Is there a program available somewhere to buy or free that will extract certain specific cells and certain ranges to text files so i can import them into a MS Access DB. ie Cell K1 is the Date, K2 is the Cust Name, A10:A31 is the Invoice Items, B10:B31 is the costs. Once i get the information into plain text I will be able to do everthing from then on. To do this manually would take weeks.     - Bitmap Gets Flipped Over I have a Vendor who sends me my invoices via e-mails in an Excel spreadsheet. In the upper left corner of the spreadsheet is their logo. When I open the spreadsheet, the logo is flipped 180 degrees horizontally. To correct, I ahve to click on the logo and drag the handle from either right or left to the opposite end to flip the logo to its original orientation.     - problem with adding column, formatting I saved a workbook in quatro pro 8 to excel format and then opened it in excel (ms office 2000). some of the columns will not permit reformatting - changing the date format or changing from currency to accountant number format. I can not add blank columns between columns containing data. A window pops up indicating that Excel will not insert a column as I will lose data. I have attempted to follow instructions in the documentation and in the help screen but can not insert blank columns. In the transfer process does excel end up with locked column and row structure and/or formatting of some data that can not be changed?     - Excel combinatorics/replace problem Hello all, I`m having a bit of trouble with the following problem. I have a larg table (6000 plus rows) of this form: x1 x4 x6 x8 x5 x2 x1 x9 x23 x11 x3 x9 x1 x44 x18 x101 x2 ............. I want all the values, i.e. xn, to be present in the table ONLY in th row in which they occupy the first column. In other words, for x1 fo example, I would like to delete all x1`s other than those in the firs row.     - Change reference in formula from cell address to name I'm fairly sure I saw this yesterday somewhere in this forum, but after almost two hours of searching, and not finding, I figure I've earned the right to ask - if only because someone should feel sorry for my pathetic search skills (or bad memory). Example: say I have a formula =$A$1+$B$2. Later, I name cell A1 "start" and B2 "finish". The original formula above still has the cell references and not the cell names (it does not change to =start+finish). How can I get the formulae created prior to naming cells to change and reflect the cell names? Secondly, given that I have hundreds of formulas to which this would apply, is there some way to do this globally or will I need to go cell by cell?     - Adding profit to a sread sheet Hi there I'm working on an extensive pricing catalogue in EXCEL. I need to write a formula that adds a profit to a cell, but if the profit added is less than $100, then it must add $100 instead. Here's what I have so far........ =SUM(C7*A1) For arguments sake I have a cell A1 which is a multiplier (1.3 for a 30% profit). And C7 is the wholesale price that I enter in. (for the sake of the exercise lets use a value of $80) Cell D7 is the total (where the formula will reside). So currently D7 would show $104, but because it is less than $100 profit (ie $24), I need it to be $180. Any help writing this formula would be appreciated. I know how to add a new row on the work sheet I am working on but I can one add that same row to more then 1 sheet at the same time? I have a spreadsheet for charting my cashflow and I have listed dates sequentially down one column but I need to highlight weekends preferably using conditional formatting.     - Chart Wizard Hello all. I'm trying to create a simple chart for a class I'm in. I want the Y axis to be the Price, and the X axis to represent the quantities (QD, QS). But I am having no luck getting Excel to realize that, probably since Price is the dependent variable. So whenever I try to create the chart, I have the Quantities showing up as the Y axis.     - COM Interface and IDE caching I create a simple interface in a com object: [Guid("02807777-4A83-48b3-B34E-B965264790E4")] public interface ISimple { void a(); int b(); } I build the object in Visual Studio and load the object from Excel. I can call a and b without any problems. I then change the object's interface to : [Guid("02807777-4A83-48b3-B34E-B965264790E4")] public interface ISimple { void beforeA(); void a(); int newB(); } When I build the project Visual Studio says that it unregisters the prior components and then proceeds to build and register the new component. Looking at the typelib in OLEView shows the new interface definition is indeed available. Visual Studio however insists that the old interface definition still exists and only shows the old definition in the method completion popup. This is especially odd since the build uses the new definitions. Even stranger is that Excel also now does not have the new interface and calls to the objects new methods fail too. Where are VS and Excel caching the old definitions and how do i get rid of the old info and load the new? I have looked through the registry and haven't found anything. Hi,

I've seen somewhere that boolean values could be represented as checkboxes.
How do I create such a checkbox column?

You could show the Forms toolbar and add a few checkboxes to a worksheet (in a
nice column).

Then right click on each of the checkboxes and choose Format Control.

Then choose control and you can link the value of the checkbox to a cell.

And when you change that linked cell, the checkbox will change (and viceversa).
