 - Newbie Entourage questions 1. I managed to import my mail from Apple Mail, but how do I import my contacts from Address Book and my calender dates from iCal? 2.  - Sending Word document thru Entourage is garbled?? Just shifted to Mac recently. I open Word, choose a template, make a letter and then go to menu-send to-email recipient as html- So far so good. Entourage open up just as Outlook did in Office 2003. But Instead of the nicely formatted document word made, I see a totally misaligned document which no one can understand. I have fiddled with all settings in Entourage but just cant get it to work. I can easily send the doc as an attachment but that's not the idea. The recipient should see the document as an email and not as an attached document. This was really easy in office 2003 so what am I doing wrong?? Thanks in advance.  - Unrecognized internal error: 0x50b Error: 1025 I work in an office with an exchange server, there are 3 of us with Mac who use Entourage 10.1.4 (everyone else uses Outlook). We have had constant problems with our e-mails, most of which have bee solved by rebuilding the database. We are currently recieving this error message everytime entourage run send and recieve: Mail could not be received at this time. The server returned the following error Unrecognized internal error: 0x50b. Error: 1025 - We are actually recieving mail ok on the whole. - My inbox shows that there are 3 unread mails but actually ther aren't any there (nor on the server apparently) - If my colleague clicks on a folder the folder and contents disappea (!) and entourage crashes. Our on-site support person doesn't seem to know anything abou Macs.... I've seen this error mentioned previously but haven't seen a solution. Does anyone know what this is and what I can do about it?  - Send Complex HTML X 2.04 (Problem w Groups) I downloaded Paul Berkowitz's (fantastic) "Send Complex HTML X 2.04" script which allows you to create HTML files outside of Entourage and send them successfully with Entourage. It really was just what I was looking for. I thank him for making this available! I thought this script was perfect (and it was on my tests) until I tried to send to a group. When I try to send to a group I get this error: "Microsoft Entourage got an error: Can't get group 1 whose name of it = "Test Group". " I noticed the Read Me file mentions that you CAN send to groups, but this was not the case for me. [using Entourage 2004 v11.2.1 and Mac OS 10.3.9 with Exchange 2003]. I tried to find a workaround and discovered that if I select the group in the address book, then choose "Execute Script" it works, no error, e-mail sent. O.K. This works BUT (there's always a but...) this method does not allow me to add a subject to the e-mail and unfortunately it automatically picks up the name of the file and uses that as the subject (not what I want). I tried re-naming the HTML file (to match the subject that I want) and that works BUT (again a but...) it also appends ".htm" to the end of the new file name and places that in the subject of the e-mail. Again I discovered a work-around for this problem and that was to open the HTML file in IE and then use the script's choice of attaching a web page displayed in IE instead of pointing to the file. This does indeed pick up the "Title" of the HTML doc (not the file name). Now, I solved almost all problems (or at least found acceptable workarounds any way) BUT, (again...) I noticed that launching the script from the address book (using "Execute Script") results in sending out e-mails with blank "To:" fields. In other words no recipient. I am very concerned that this may result in my e-mails being filtered out by spam filters if there is no name in the recipient field. Oddly, if I do a test, addressing a new e-mail to the group, but do not run the script (just send plain text instead of complex HTML) the e-mails arrive with the name of the group in the "To:" field. This would work just fine (but I really, really wish I could put the recipient's name on each e-mail, but hide the other people in the group). Again, I want to thank Paul Berkowitz for this excellent script. If anyone can help me with the two "issues" (1. Error when sending to a group & 2. blank TO: fields ) I would be eternally grateful.  - Cannot delete Directory Service linked to old Exchange account After deleting an Exchange account in Entourage '04, the Directory Service linked to it is still listed. When I try to delete the Directory Service account, it says I should first delete the Exchange account, which of course is already deleted! When I try to "Edit" it, Entourage crashes. Any ideas????  - Fix for some: Entourage 2004, Exchange, and Spinning Ball Using OS X 10.4.3, Entourage 2004 with Exchange 2003. I've applied the Spotlight fix and told spotlight not to index my MUD folder, but I've still been getting the spinning ball on an ongoing basis and it's been driving me nuts. I've found the only way to keep it down was to keep my folder sizes relatively small. But I get a lot of email and being able to hold only a week or so of sent and deleted items is an issue for me. Well, during one of these stalls I had Activity Monitor running and I noticed that a large amount of the CPU was being dedicated to Norton Antivirus. It seems that Norton is constantly trying to scan the Entourage database while it's being synched to Entourage. By adding the MUD folder to my Safe Zone in Norton AV 10.0, the spinning ball issue has gone away. As for it being an issue that I might be exposed to Viruses, we have multiple layers of Anti-virus protection before my email gets to me through Exchange, so I'm hoping I'm not exposing myself to any possible viruses.  - Erratic Unread Message indicator Hi Folks - I use Entourage (11.2.1) as newsreader running on OS X 10.4.2, but yesterday developed an issue I can't seem to resolve. The MS ng folders indicate # of unread messages in parens, but when I select that folder no unread messages appear (they should show up in bolded groups). It seemed to be only the Mac XL group, but Word & Office are now behaving the same way. If the # shows as (4), it may drop to (3) when selected, but none or only one show up in the message list. I have tried refreshing the list, using different View>Arrange by settings, as well as Cmd+Opt+L as suggested in a similar post from some time back, all with no change. Permissions, etc. are good.  - Database rebuild: mail lost When I attempted to search my Entourage 04 database, I received a message that the database needed to be rebuilt. Entourage launched the database utility, found problems in the mail database, and I had the utility rebuild the database. When I relaunched Entourage, all email from the last three days was gone.  - Set times by typing I could swear that I used to be able to set task and event times by typing, not just by clicking the arrow keys at one point. This functionality seems to have vanished. I'm using Entourage 2004 ver. 11.2.1 and Mac OS X 10.4.3. This is a function that is sort of necessary, in my opinion, to make Entourage work like a business app of some efficiency, rather than a candy-colored piece of eyecandy. Having both in one app would be even better. I'd also love to see short date entry, where I could type in 11/04/05 and have a date field in a task or event read it and file it appropriately, while I'm wishing for things. . . Thanks!  - Create Groups on Exchange Hi All, I'm new to the Group, so forgive me if this has already been addressed. I'm on Microsoft Office 2004 using Entourage on a MAC G5 running Tiger OS. I'm unable to create a GROUP in my address book/contacts. Has anyone else run into this problem? Is there a fix to it that I just can't see? Very frustrating when I need to send emails to a specific group of people and I have to go in and manually select each one individually.  - Removing Another User's Calendar/Mail/Contact files from Folder List Hi there, I noticed with the latest round of updates for Office 2004, I can now share my calendar and access others using Exchange 2003 directly. That is great news. However, I can't seem to *remove* from my folder list the folders of another user once accessed! According to the Help Guide, there should be a menu item under "Edit" called "Remove from View". However, I can find NO SUCH item. Nor can I invoke a way to trash those folders from my view using any of the obvious ways: - right or command click for more options - attempting to drag the folders out - other menu choices I am running Entourage version 11.2.1 (051004).  - Send via BCC to an entire category Using Entourage for Mac 11.1.0 on Mac OS 10.3.9 I am trying to send to all members of a particular category via BCC. The only way I have figured out to send to an entire category is by making the quick-view "Category is" box equal the category I want, ctrl+a, and then clicking "new message to" on the toolbar. This puts all the addresses in the "TO" box of the email, but I want them in the "BCC" field. I tried the simple cut and paste but the "Copy Address" field greys out when more than one address in the "TO" field is selected. Is there a way to get all the members of a category into the "BCC" field direct from the address book rather than into the "TO" field? I've tried thinking through this problem many ways. One of my thoughts was that I would setup a rule to take any member of my address book whose category was the one I wanted and insert that person into a group. Then I could click the "Do Not Show Recipients" check box in the group dialog. But apparently I can only run rules on incoming and outgoing messages and not on address book entries. I could also just create a group and keep it updated manually with the members of a category but this method leaks because I have a very large category which I add and subtract people from frequently. I also of course considered possibilities using data merge, but this seems entirely too cumbersome for frequent emails. I would greatly appreciate suggestions on this.  - Export only local contacts/calendar? I found no mention of this problem in this newsgroup's archive nor on the mvp page. If I missed the solution, I apologize, but could someone point me to it then? With the 11.2.x updates, Entourage can only Export local contacts and calendars. However, I rely on an Exchange server and so all my contacts and calendars are there. After the updates, I can no longer make a local backup of these items using Export. This is a serious problem for me. Why would I ever need to export or back up those item if they're stored on the server, you ask? Because I also use a Palm device, and in the process of synchronizing, something has gone wrong several times where all my contacts or events were deleted, and Entourage likewise deleted them on the server. Is there anyway to restore the Export functionality that allowed me to backup those items locally? Dragging and dropping all contacts and events and creating vcards is out of the question since there are too many, and Entourage has never successfully created vcards for all items each time I've tested this method. Furthermore, backing up the entire Entourage database just for those items is also out of the question, since I don't have the disk space to keep all my mail twice, just to have a backup of my contacts and events.  - CONFIRMED problem with Entourage changing Keyboard Layout I have been suffering from a problem with keyboard layouts being changed without any user intervention for a long time now (many months). The symptoms are as follows: I have a Logitech keyboard and have the keyboard layout installed for it. The appropriate layout for me is "Logitech UK Intl". However from time to time this layout gets switched without my intervention to the standard UK (British) layout. This is INTENSELY annoying as all of a sudden some of the keys start producing the wrong characters (particularly the @ key suddenly becomes the " key). There is no warning at all - it just changes and the only way I discover it's changed is when I type one of the changed keys and get a character other than the one I expected. The only remedy that I've discovered up to now is to remove the Roman.bundle layout file from the appropriate folder in the System folder, but this makes Word become very unstable, so I've reverted to the standard OS default of this file being installed. I have been berated in the past for accusing Microsoft products of causing this change, but up to now I've never been able to "catch one in the act", so to speak. However I have now definitively found a case where this happens with Entourage, as follows: Open the Accounts dialog, and click on the New button - the keyboard layout INSTANTLY changes to British - no question about it, Entourage is DEFINITELY guilty as charged. Why does this happen? I guess this HAS to be a bug in the code. Now try and deny that this is a problem caused by Microsoft!!! MICROSOFT MACBU - PLEASE FIX THIS - IT IS DRIVING ME (AND MANY OTHERS) MAD!! PS: I will be posting this to Macintouch and MacFixit, as I know this problem has been plaguing many people for a long time now, and this is the first definitive proof of a categorical cause for the problem. It is very difficult to pin this one down as there is nothing in any log to indicate that the keyboard layout has been changed, and no clues anywhere about why it has happened. The only way of tracking the guilty app down is to notice that the keyboard layout has changed by having the active layout displayed in the menu bar and then noticing that it has changed at the exact time that it does change...  - Authorization Failed on SMTP I have been using Entourage for many months now with no problems at all. This morning when I attempt to send emails from any of the 4 accounts I have configured on Entourage I get the error "AUTHORIZATION FAILED" error number 5.7.0. It states that the authentication credentials are incorrect and offers for me to enter the password again. The error persists even though I enter the password. This problem occurs for all accounts. I configured the same accounts on a friends PC laptop and they worked fine. I have deleted all the accounts and re-configured them to no avail. Ideas please as I am cut off from the world.  - corrupted email removed but entourage still crashing iMac G5 OS 10.3.9 Entourage 10.1.4 never had problems until 1-2 days ago, downloading email, progress showed 6 to be received, crashed 2-3 times at same point; went to web based email and deleted one strange email; entourage has been strange ever since: crashes when moving single emails from inbox to other folder, sometimes displays "The action could not be completed - mail error", sometimes when I open a folder and highlight an email, the message field goes blank and the folder contents field (to/from/subj/date) is blank or sections are gray.  - LISTGROUP nntp command Entourage uses the LISTGROUP command to retrieve news articles, but the server I connect to (free.teranews.com) no longer supports this command (they just 'upgraded' their software). Similarly, emails in another folder that I created for a rule (informational emails) are given an automatic project designation for a project that they're completely unrelated to!  - Entourage Hangs I'm using Entourage version 11.2.1 with Mac OS X version 10.4.3. I'm experiencing hangs in Entourage. I had a previous PowerBook G4 that worked fine with this combo. I just got a new PowerBook G4 this week and am experiencing hangs from Entourage. I've had about four hangs today alone which require a restart. Other applications are unaffected. The primary difference in the two platforms are that I have 2GB of RAM in the new system vs 512MB in the old system and I have a 100GB 7200 RPM drive in the new system.  - Using Entourage identity on more than one computer We are using Tiger on a laptop with Entourage in use. After a new hard drive was installed on the Panther Computer Entourage lost its settings and will not recognize the same account used on the tiger laptop. Why do account settings have to be set up to reativate the account.  - Project Center Sharing Catch 22's? I am going to start using the Project Center feature in Office 2004. While testing I found 2 bad Catch 22's with the feature. 1. Emails are not syncing when sharing and files being moved, not copied to the network share or in your local computer. What other Catch 22 type things are there when using the Project Center feature?  - Animated Icon It's my understanding that when I get a new email message the Entourage icon will bounce on my dock. This has never worked for me.  - Known font incompatibilities? Here's a separate problem with the same Mac using Entourage and OS X Tiger on an iMac G5. Entourage's "Database Daemon" would consistently lock up when Entourage was launched. No way to avoid it. After reinstalling and updating Entourage the problem persisted. Suspecting fonts I went in to FontBook and turned off all the foreign language fonts. From that point forward the program works fine.  - Alarms when entourage not running I am running entourage trial version on my new ibook (just switch from Windows). I tried ical but unacknowledged alarms are not carried over to the next day like with Outlook so I'm trying Entourage. I set an alarm last night for 8AM this morning.  - Reply All failsafe? Hey folks I'm sure we've all done it - hit "Reply All" when we meant "Reply" and sometimes gotten ourselves into some trouble or uncomfortable situations. Though nothing has happened to be damaging, I'm afraid that day will come so was hoping to write a rule that would bring up a notification when the Reply All button is clicked that says "Are you sure you want to Reply All?"  - "Download Pictures" link does not work. Impossible to view pictures in html emails. The problem I'm having is that I cannot download the pictoral content that arrives in html emails - even when I click on the "To protect your privacy, some pictures in this message were not downloaded. Download Pictures" link. When I click on that, all that happens is that the "Download Pictures" link disappears after a few moments - all the images in the email document continue to remain as red X's. This is happening on about a dozen Mac workstations in a corporation that is otherwise Windows only. We are using the Server edition of Entourage (see below): Mac OS X vers. 10.4.3 (it is also happening on some workstations with OS X 10.3) Entourage 2004 for Mac version 11.1.0 (Server edition) My Admins are all Windows guys and can't help with the Mac stuff.  - "Beach Ball" Constantly Going I have noticed that after I use Enourage for a while, the dreaded "spinning beach ball" starts appearing anytime I start to send a message, and it just seems to be worse. If I quit out of Entourage, it is better for a while and then quickly becomes almost unusable. I have a Gig of RAM and plenty of disk space, so I don't think a computer issue.  - Lost All Addresses when sinc between Entourage and Palm I just downloaded the mactopia conduit between Entourage and Palm. I had selected to sinc but when it was finished, all my data was gone from both the Palm and my computer (MAC OS10). Does anyone have any idea how I can get that data back?  - Meeting Event Attendee Update I am wondering if there is a way to choose to send updates to meeting attendee lists only to the attendees that have been added or deleted. This ability is found in Windows version of Outlook and is extremely helpful. The default behavior of Entourage is to send an updated event to everyone and I haven't found a way to change that.  - Disabling LDAP use I'm having trouble figuring out why Entourage keeps re-adding an LDAP server to the account preferences. I just cleared out BigFoot and it was added back a few days later. Is there a place I can disabling this auto-adding of an LDAP server. Finding a way to have Entourage ignore the presence of BigFoot would be another way to speed up the email sending experience. find out what folder(s) these emails live in?

In the search results window you can turn on display of a column for
'folder' by right-clicking (control-clicking) in the list column headers and
selecting 'folder' in that list.
