Is there a default for the Pop-up "filter" menu? AppleScript

When viewing the InBox folder, I would like the pop-up "filter" menu to
default to From. Only seems logical.

Accordingly, when in the Sent Items, Drafts or OutBox, I would like it to
default to To. (I'm the only person sending mail here, so how often would I
want to filter my Sent Items to show messages From. Uh, that would be all
messages sent!

If there is a way for the user to set a default for each box -- that would
be the best!

Is there an AppleScript solution. In other words, can ascript get triggered
by opening a folder? If so, it could select the proper menu item?

No, but you can send this to MS as a wish list item.

I have done so. I've also asked for Open BSD support so I can access
newsgroup on Astound.
