In my Panther 10.3.9, Logout appears to be shift-cmd-q, and Switch
Identities is option-cmd-q. That's what the menus say, and I just tested.

Use Menu Master to redefine any keystrokes you want to avoid conflicts or to
make them more memorable. It's a brilliant little app that should be on
every Mac computer.

For example, I use it to redefine Command-F to open the Advanced Find dialog
in Entourage so that I never have to click the More Options button in the
stupid basic find dialog.

i also notice that when i have any other office app open, i have to
close them down when i switch identities - i was told that under office

No way around it...You have to quit all other MS apps.
