From time to time, when I am running Entourage, I cannot access the features of Entourage. It seems like it is frozen. At the same time, I can hear the hard drive doing a lot of work. I assume it is doing some kind of backup routine. Is that normal?

This could be many different things related or unrelated to Entourage.
Open Activity Monitor found in /Applications/Utilities and check your
hard drive space and amount of memory.

I suspect you are running low on memory. While looking at the pie chart
representing your memory usage you'll see four colors. If the red +
yellow amount is significantly greater than the blue + green amount then
you don't have enough memory for the amount of applications you have
running at the time.

Hope this helps!
