I am trying to clean up my address book. Is there a way to list all
addresses in the Recently Used Address List, inorder to choose, or drag
those into my permanent address book. I do not want to turn off the
feature, nor clear the list entirely. Thanks!

As the respondent says, no, there is no way to list the MRU list. The best
you can do is to add the addresses as you go. That is, if you begin to type
in a name and it fills in from the MRU list with a blue dot rather than a
little "person" figure, it is a name from the MRU list and not the address
book. Click on it to select it, then control-click on it, and a popup menu
appears; one option in the menu is "Add to Address Book".

You may want to create a rule that runs a script against any outgoing
message, to add the recipient to your Address Book (if not already there). I
have such a script, if you are interested. Look for "Make Contact from
recipient v2" on my scripts download page:

http://homepage.mac.com/allen_a_watson

You have to navigate down thru /Scripts/Entourage OS X/ to find the file.
Earlier today, mac.com was having some problem displaying my file list;
don't know why.

Allen is right about how to add an address to your address book. Once
it's in there, you can delete it, and it will no longer show up in the
'autofill' list of recently used addresses.

good luck.

Auto complete will also use the entries in your contacts. You can decide in
the prefs whether or not you want entourage to use the 'MRU'

(and why do you consider it crippled?)

using mac os x 10.3.3 and entourage 2004 with 500 MB of memory;

thanks. i cannot find autocomplete in the preferences? i also looked in
help but no luck. any idea how to set that up? when i used eudora, my
entire address book was available for autocomplete. here it seems to
include a differnet cast of entries every time. sometimes entries from
years back but not from a few days ago. anything i can do about it?

on a much more important 9for me) level. synching my palm with
entourage i suddenly have four times thenumber of address entries. i
have tried a few scripts but none seem to work. any recommendations for
a script that would

1 - delete all exact duplicates (well one of the duplicates, anyway!)
2 - allow me to combine or at least flag duplicates with the same first
and last name?

and finally, whcih scripts folder do the scripts go in? i seem to have
script folders under both my "personality" - the little house folder -
and under the HD icon.

manyt hanks for your help! - peter green

Under the 'compose' tab, the last item on that page is 'Recent Addresses'

All the entries in your address book will be available for matching the text
you type in the address book fields, in addition, recent addresses you have
sent to or received from will also be available, if you have this turned on
in the prefs (this is on by default)

There are scripts to do this at <http://www.scriptbuilders.net/>

Those are the system scripts folders. Before those were invented, entourage
had it's own script folder (the black scroll item just to the right of the
Help menu)

To put things in there, you put them in the 'Entourage Script Menu Items'
folder in you 'Microsoft User Data' folder in you documents folder.
