 - Transfer local folders I need to move local folders from Outlook Express on G4, using OS X, to Entourage 2004 on G5, using OS X. Where are the mail files located in both Outlook Express and Entourage? What is the procedure? Is there a reference URL at Microsoft site to explain this procedure?  - Database File Im not entirely sure what the database file in /Users/yourHomeFolder/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2004 Identities/Main Identity does but I have one question. We are using Mac OS X and Office 2004 for our students in a lab environment so we have not installed Entourage. However when a user runs any other office app for the first time it still creates this 18Mb file. Normally this would not be a problem, but we also use network home directories which by default are limited to 30Mb (enough for them to store their work in but not really for 18mb files).  - ABSOLUTELY STRANGE behaviors - Entourage 2004 I started having VERY strange symptoms a couple of days ago, but database integrity says everything is fine. These are the symptoms: 1. I started having trouble connecting to Macromedia Newsgroups. Items would show as unread, but would not display in the list window pane. Unchecking hide read did not change things. I would connect to the newsgroup but nothing would download. This happened several times on different forums within the group. Then later the newsgroups functioned again as normal. 2. I tried to print a plain text email, but all I got was a spinning beachball and had to force quit. I tried to view the Source of the offending email, but it also created the spin. I force quit and restarted and the next download of mail seemed to lose its place and redownloaded all of todays messages as if they had not been read or downloaded. I pressed print one copy of the message selected in the list view, and it printed a blank sheet of paper. Other messages seem to print just fine. It appears as if Entourage is losing track of time or its mail log. OSX 10.3.8, G5 Dual 2.5 Normally, when I had a bad email from somewhere, just clicking on the email would cause a crash.  - Start Up Crash Entourage will not open at all - or rather, when I open it, it gets as far as the mailbox screen and then quits suddenly. I have tried several things to either a) get it to open or b) import the information into Apple Mail. None of it has worked. The problem is essentially that the information exists, but I can no longer access it (Mail will not import the data because Entourage will not stay open long enough to do so). Any suggestions on either getting Entourage to start up or somehow converting its databases to another email program that doesn't require me to open it up to do so?  - Cleaning up threads by deleting duplicate or repeated content I'm a new user of Entourage and was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a script that will do this: 1) examine all the messages in a thread (or indeed mailbox) 2) identify where earlier messages are rendered superfluous because they are quoted in full in later emails 3) delete all earlier messages that are fully quoted in later messages This would reduce the number of messages in a thread or mailbox without losing any content. I have found several scripts that will delete exact duplicates, but what I am looking for is a bit more complicated, as the contents of dissimilar messages must be compared to test for a subset of common content.  - Trying to import converted data from Outlook 2003 into Entourage 2004 I successfully converted my calendar into a .ics my contacts into a .vcf and my mail into many .mbox I am now trying to import these files into Entourage. I choose file>import and try some of the options, but none of the options seem to recognize the files on my mac when I browse to their locations. Are these files not compatible with Entourage?  - Opening attached files in Entourage 2004 I can't open files attached to an incoming email. I double-click on the attachment and nothing happens. I press the "Open" button to the right of the attachment and get an error message that the file is corrupted and cannot be opened. Same thing happens if I save the file and then try and open it. This has occurred for .jpg, .pdf and .doc files. I can open the files using Entourage X (which I still have installed on the same Mac as Entourage 2004). Any ideas on how to fix this?  - DELEGATES Hello! Back in Outlook 2001, when I added a Delegate to a users Inbox, the user was able to send and receive email under the Delegates username and password. In Entourage 2004, we seem to be having an issue with Exchange in sending mail under the same inbox. The Inbox is there. It says it's connected. we can receive mail. But can't send it. We get an error that the account was incorrectly configured but I don't see how if all you have to do is add the account in the Delegates box under the Delegates tab in Exchange. Any clue(s)? Thanks!  - jpeg/jpg photos sent from Entourage 2004 to Windows XP can't be opened by recipients Here's what happens: In Entourage 2004, I open a new e-mail message > type in recipient's name > attach photo identified on my hard drive as being a "JPEG Image" > click to "send" e-mail > Stuffit comes on to "unstuff" the image > e-mail is sent. NOTE: I have tried sending this e-mail to myself (iBook 10.3.8) and to Windows XP users. Neither they nor I can open the image.  - Creating date format "15 Mar 2005". How? I have problems sometimes to actually see a date when it's in all numbers like e.g. "05-06-2005". I sometimes confuse the day with the month, and need to really check closely to get it right. I rather have dates with the month i letters (abbreviated is OK) like "15 Mar 2005". When I set this in the OS preferences, it still doesn't propagate into Entourage (nor to e.g. Thunderbird, but people using Mail says it works for them). Can I arrange such date format in some way?  - Downloading pictures in non-address book emails Hi everyone. I get a lot of emails from businesses that I don't wish to keep in my address book. These emails are usually in html format and contain pictures which do not download. I realise I am able to do this by clicking the "Download pictures" button at the top of the email and that if these email addresses were in my address book, the pictures would download automatically. I have tried using the "Mailing List Manager" without success. I think this is how I should go about it, but can someone please take me through it step by step. Or is there an easier way to do this.  - Address card format? I absolutely can't read the VERY VERY SMALL text that Entourage uses for the address book entries. When you click on a list entry to view the details for that contact, the window that opens has extremely small and unreadable text in it. Any way to increase the size of this? On a related note.....if any of you have used Outlook 2003 (windows), you get to view your entire address book (including all details) at once....like they were business cards all stuck together......why is Entourage so UN-user friendly?  - Delete from server I have my primary account set to delete emails from the server after five days. But, it is not working.  - Just some grouching about uncomfortable synchronizing with Palm Hi everybody, Synchronizing my Palm with Entourage works fine, no problems or bugs at all, but once again there is an annoying constraint in a Microsoft product: Why isn't it possible in Entourage Conduit Settings' preferences to set any Entourage Address Book field to be synchronized with one of the four customizable Address List fields on the Palm, but only "Nickname", "Title", "Website", the "User-Defined"s 1-8, etc.? Why of all just these? What about the _birthday_, undoubtedly one of the most important purposes of a handheld? I hope one of Office 2004's programmers reads this and maybe just inserts the possibility to sync the birthday with the custom fields on the Palm in the next update for Office 2004, since entries in the complaints and suggestions form on the Mactopia site seem to be ignored...  - Calendar Items We are having an issue with Entourage 2004 calendaring. We use Entourage 2004 with all updates and Exchange 2003 as well as Outlook 2003 via Terminal Services (on Windows Server 2003). So the way the software is being used: We use Outlook 2003 via terminal services for our assistants to update our calendars. We use Entourage 2004 to read our calendars and update calendar items. Every so often, with shared calendars, a bunch of calendar items will have all their information erased (date, time, notes) and the subject will be replaced with "Calendar Item". We have no idea why or how this is happening. It seems pretty random. We initially thought it might be related to syncing a PDA or PocketPC, yet at least one person this is happening to doesnt sync to his calendar at all... Any ideas or input is appreciated.  - Times an hour off We are having an issue with Entourage 2004 calendaring. We use Entourage 2004 with all updates and Exchange 2003 as well as Outlook 2003 via Terminal Services (on Windows Server 2003). Every so often a bunch of calendar items will be an hour off for the managers - usually its the items that the assistants have entered. We have verified that the timezones and date and time on the Terminal server and all the client machines are the same - we even make sure that the timezone is correct in Outlook Web Access for everyone experiencing this problem. Our server host is in eastern time and we are in central and our times are off by exactly that amount - meaning if the assistant sets a calender event for 3pm on the manager's calendar, the manager sees the event as being scheduled for 4pm. Our host says its not a problem on their end and see no way to troubleshoot the problem. M$ (for $250) says that they can't support the configuration we are using. For calendaring to work, we need to be using all the same software versions (basically we need to be using all PCs running Outlook 2003)...  - Email delays We have recently moved to Entourage 2004 and installed all updates. We use an externally hosted Exchange 2003 server. For some reason, emails to our users are delayed for up to 4 hours at a time. Sometimes if the user clicks into an Entourage window, or does something in Entourage (like create a new email or look at their Calendar), email will come rolling in from the past hour - 4 hours. Anyone else experiencing anything like this? Whats weird is that it happens to random people throughout the firm, yet once it happens to them, it keeps happening to them randomly.  - Creating Tasks Is there a default way to enter Tasks by Category? My Palm has SUCH a simple way...just select the Category list, then any new task you add, is automatically ascribed to that category. There's no need to open all these complicated dialogue boxes each time you want to enter a one line task. For example, I like to create a shopping list under the "Groceries" task.  - Entourage accesses everything EXCEPT Email from Exchange server Hi - I recently got a Mac at work. Our email, network, etc is all Windows-based. I have tried the trial version of Entourage on my Mac to hookup to my email. I've been able to get things such as Calendar appointments and Contacts, but it won't show me my email. I can even SEND email successfuly, but just can't see my email. It occasionally asks for my password and says that it was rejected although it still seems to be connected at times. I've run into the same problem on Mac mail where it seems to be ok, but again, I just can't see my email. Any help would be great!  - Entourage 2004 sorting issue Does anyone have suggestions on how to speed up the sorting/display of views? I have a question about sorting and other operations involving moving data around in Entourage 2004 Mac in OS X 10.3.8. Seems to take a long time to sort or change views on a large (subset of) the address, calendar or project database(s). While this operation is ongoing, there is little or no indication of activity, but the app is frozen. My example is based on a group of 1000 records or larger. It is somewhat but not entirely dependent on CPU speed and not at all on available memory. I say this because I monitored the available RAM while doing operations like this and plenty of RAM was available during the process; comparing the speed on a 400MHz(G3) vs. 867MHz(G4) machine gave very little difference in sort time as well.  - Get rid of Project color bullet? Is it possible in Entourage 2004 to have a Project without a color bullet? I want to use a project to designate all the events for a certain calendar that I print, but I don't want the bullet marking every event. I want to use a Project instead of a Category because my Palm will only handle 15 categories, and I don't want to waste a category if I can use a project. I use the Palm to sync Entourage (at home) with Outlook (at work). Some of the events in this calendar need to be synced with the Palm and some don't. In Mail when I have the Address pane up and the Address Book displayed with it I can't see this category. I see other categories but not this one.  - Email addresses said to not be valid in DNS? I have problems sending out mass mails to people using Entourage. There seems to be a limit to the number of addresses one email can be sent to. I haven't discovered the ceiling yet but have limited each email to 20 addresses. However, even when I limit the number of e-mail addresses now, I still get an error message saying something like [PERMFAIL] Addresses not a valid DNS or something like that.  - Delivery failure Notices sent in Unicode I had an email that could not be delivered from my Entourage package and the postmaster at the destination sent back a message to tell me why. But the mesaage was in unicode and my system could not (or would not) display it. The email said "Some text in the email message was in a language that yiur computer could not display". this meant that wityhout looking at the source I could not even identify the name of the person whose emnail had caused troubles. Yet I could read the message quite clearly in the source. So what sort of a lame brained mailer would send out an error message in a format that not all mailers can handle, and secondly what sort of a lame brained mail package would say that it could not display text that was clearly readible?  - Mac/Ent2004/ethernet issues? Hello all, Our mail server recently changed, and along with it, the login/password info. We have a system of about 5 macs, all hooked up to an asanta router through ethernet. After the mail server switch, 2 machines are having issues logging into their accounts - getting an 'invalid password' error. The same information pasted into a different machine running Entourage goes right through to the account, and doesn't hang on the password. On the trouble machine, we can access the mail through the web, but using ANY mail program for those accounts fails on password (even Apple's built in mail). However, when I go to my address book, it's not there. If I create a new mail message and try to type in the name of the custom view, it doesn't show up that way either. I want to be able to add a custom view to a BCC address line. I need to use Custom View as opposed to an Address Book group so I can sort this list by some custom criteria that is so handy in Entourage. Can anyone help? I have a Palm Zire 72 w/a camera on it, and have begun taking pictures
of new contacts b/c I work with a high volume of people (and because
it's kinda fun). I assumed that they would sync into my Entourage
Address Book file on the person since they're already in the Palm
address book file for them, but, alas, it does not. Does anyone know
if there's any way to set up sync on my Powerbook G4 w/the newest
update of OS X on it? Thanks for the help!!!

No, it's not possible, not even by script. Do it manually: sync to Apple's
Address Book if that's possible (iSync?), the drag the photos fro the
Address Book contacts to your desktop (or a folder there) and then from
there into the Entourage contacts photo area.
