hi
i recently maxed out my database file, and entourage asked me to
rebuild my database before i could open entourage. it was not ever
clear to me that there was a maximum size for this file, so it came to
be quite unexpectedly! i'll tell you entourage is not very clear that
this would be an issue.

now i ran the rebuild, and it compacted to 2.2GB and my mailboxes
opened fine, but i lost about 1 week's worth of mail!

is there anything i can do to try to find this missing mail? i have
rebuilt the same 4GB database again 2x, once again typical, once
advanced and still i do not get the missing week's worth of mail. is it
really gone?! is there anything else i can do to crack open this
database file? somewhere i can send this file to in order to see if it
has somewhere the missing mail?

any help is much apreciated!

thanks, cs2i

Perhaps, though I do recall SR-1 for Office v.X (which seems to be what
you're talking about) explicitly said something in its readme about the
database size increasing to 4 GB.

For future reference, the various limits are described here:

That doesn't sound like it could happen in a normal compact procedure. Was
the database corrupt in any way?

I suspect the mail's gone. Depending on how desperate you were, you could
try opening the original database in a text editor and look for the emails.

Cheers,

Hi,

I'm experiencing a similar problem.

A few days ago, I got a message that my database was corrupted then the
application crashed. After finding out how to rebuild my file on MS website,
I proceeded with the first rebuild option (holding the option key while
re-launching the app). My database file at the time was 3.7 GB. After that
first attempt, I was prompted to use the advanced option. After completed,
my file now reads 4 GB. Every time I launch Entourage, it says I've reached
the maximum size and asks me to compact my database. When I try, it says I
don't have enough space to do so... I have 14 GB of free space. I don't
understand. How can I retrieve my data?

Thanks!

Sylvain

First thing to try is to update your version of entourage to 10.1.6 - I see
you are still running 10.1.4. This may well have nothing at all to do with
your problems, but it is worth trying the rebuild with the most up to date
version.

Thanks Barry - gave it a try, but got the same result (not enough space).
I'm wondering if upgrading to Entourage 2004 would take care of it.
Unfortunately, I already installed the trial version and it has now expired.
Wish there was a way to ensure it would work.

Thanks again,

Sylvain

It's not likely. The database is already inaccessible, so the import routine
is most unlikely to be able to repair things.
