 - Any Scripts to Export / Archive Local Mail Folders? Hi, Is anyone aware of a script/utility that will export or archive Entourage local mail folders AND maintain subfolder integrity, especially: 1) when the main local folder does not have any stored messages but the subfolder does. 2) will provide a folder structure for nested subfolders? I tried Berkowitz's Folder Export-Import utility, but it does not seem to back-up local folders if there is no message in the main.  - EMAIL ARCHIVING STRATEGY (Part II) Hello, I want to archive Entourage 2004 emails by creating several annual identities (back to 2001) in addition to the Main Idenitity for each previous years. This approach, I understand, will keep my current year Entourage Database "lean". Also, as I create .rge files from each of the previous annual identities...: 1) Does creating annual identities save any meaningful storage savings (non-Main Identities compacted) or does this approach just help keep the Main Identity lean? 2) I've tried to create .rge files for a few selected local folders through File->Export, but to no avail. Appears that .rge must do all files unless there is a specific "project" or "Category" selection. So, I assigned one of the folders a category (without assigning any of the emails within that local folder any category). Now, when I try to create a .rge file through File->Export and selecting the category, Entourage is not able to complete the task! Apparantly, the emails in the folder need to be assigned the same category? Is this true or do I need to do something else? 3) Based on the above, I tried then to then create a "custom view" and select one critera that defines the folder I selected with a named category that I assigned to that folder (not the mails within that folder). Again, Entourage appears to require the emails within the folder to have the same designated category assigned, too. Can a "Custom View" be defined on a folder level only without defining the emails in that folder with the same category? 4) I have been creating .rge files and then zipping to reduce storage requirements. Is this a relible and okay practice or does this practice create some risk to the integrity of the .rge file? Overall, my objective is to free-up storage and maintain searchability of emails. So, with annual identities and .rge files for each of those identities which are then zipped and stored, are there any other considerations or improvements in this approach?  - Syncing Entourage with iCal creates duplicates I'm syncing my Entourage calendar with iCal (using Sync Services in the Prefs) so that I can publish it for colleagues. Trouble is, it seems to duplicating certain items each time it syncs. I haven't been able to work out why some entries are duplicated and others not. The process also throws up hald a dozen conflicts each time where the Entourage event and the iCal event are identical - how is this a conflict? It's a feature I really like and would love to be able to iron out these two wringles. Really appreciate your thoughts.  - "Sent By" not visible to some Entourage recipients So far, I've got one verified user who's Entourage client won't display the "Sent By" info. I've verified that the Sender: field has been added to the message, and the sender is displayed when logged into the user's account with Outlook 2003. Other users I've tested are all displaying the "sent By" in Entourage. I updated the user from 11.3.3 to 11.3.4. but no change. I deleted prefs, but no change. When the verified user responds, the message is properly routed back to the Sender, that is, the delegate. But I suspect the Outlook setting "Send replies only to delegate, not to me" is a server-side rule. It's probably reading the Sender: header to route this, which means the missing "Sent By" is a client--side issue. I'm about to try a clean install of Entourage, but if anyone has suggestions, I'd love to hear them. -jb Tag: date not in english Tag: 76606

 - Sync Entourage-iCal misbehaving I have been happily using Paul Berkowitz's excellent Sync Entourage- iCal script for some time now. Al of a sudden, strange doings: Whenever I select "check for deletions" in the dialog at the beginning of the script, the script ends up erasing hundreds of events from iCal - purportedly because they have been erased in Entourgae? - and then restoring them to iCal. The end result is correct, but it's very unnerving, not to mention highly time-consuming. I have replicated this several times. Every time I do a first-run sync (one-way Entourage to iCal), and then I do another one-way sync immediately (without changing ANYTHING in Entourage or iCal). Any thoughts? Why does it delete from iCal these "deleted" events, only to restore them 10 minutes later during the same script operation? What might be causing this?  - Entourage deleted my exchange calendar Hello all, Yesterday I tried to enable 'sync services' for my exchange calendar so that I could view my calendar in iCal. After enabling this all my calendar contents have been deleted from Entourage and also from the Exchange server! Of course the Entourage calendar in iCal is empty also.  - Entourage and Finder stop responding Hi all, I'm assisting a user with an Entourage problem. It's Entourage 11.3.4 running on OS X 10.4.8 on an Intel iMac. The symptoms are similar: every 2-4 days Entourage cannot be quit. The mail browser stops responding. Then the Finder stops responding, so that windows will not close. The Force Quit window will can be launched but clicking on the OK to force quit Entourage will not work. In fact, the only way I've found to get out of this loop without a hard shutdown of the system is to use Fast User switching. I can log in to an admin's user login, run Activity Monitor, and force quit the user's Entourage instance from there. Today when the problem occurred, I did a a force quit Entourage, the Finder, and the Login window (stuck open as the restart command stalled there) from the admin login and then the user's apps and Finder went back to normal. So I didn't even restart the machine. To date I've tried rebuilding the Entourage d/b, zapping the PRAM, deleting Microsoft/Entourage plist preferences, copying over a fresh copy of the Office suite and running disk repair. In the console I see repeated 'crashdump' messages but there's so many references I'm not able to make heads or tails of them. Perhaps they are normal for system messages. Today I went a little further and deleted the following plist files: ardagent, loginwindow, and remotedesktop. I was going to reinstall the OS but thought it would be more useful to try to pin the problem down further before doing so. Any suggestions or tips appreciated. Tag: date not in english Tag: 76578

 - Spelling Preferences won't stay in 2004 Hi all, I upgraded to Entourage 2004 because of the Aprils Fool 1412 error. But for some reason, it never keeps my spelling preferences in the program. I open the preferences, select my choices and click "ok." When I go to open the preferences again, they are not selected. Has this happened to anyone else?  - opening entourage problem HI there I just bought a new macbook pro and installed MS office using a campus licence agreement CD (the same as disc as I used on my old, now dead machine) everything seems to work fine apart from entourage. when I try to open it I get the error message "this identity can not be open with this version of entourage". Almost everytime I disconnect my laptop to go to a meeting, and then come back and plug in my machine Entourage has to resync the past few months (note, not all) of email, which takes over an hour.  - entourage in office 2004 upgrade - import emails SLOW I have upgraded from office X (dues to april fool 1412 problem) to office 2004. entourage 2004 is now importing my old emails intot he new inbox. and its taking a very long time indeed... i have 2000 more to come in and it take about 1 min to import a small file of about 13k. so it will take about 2/3 days to import everything. and then when its finished i will have to wait 30 mins each day for my email to come in... thats not possible. so whats the problem? how can i solve it? i have a dual 1.25 ghz power pc G4 mac 768 mb ddr sdram running os x 10.4.6 is this normal? can anyone help?  - Scheduling meetings problem in calendar When I book a meeting in the Entourage calendar and invite attendees, the email invitation they get doesn't have the meeting details and it doesn't give them the option of accepting or declining the invitation. If i receive an invitation from a meeting booked in the calendar in Outlook on a Windows computer, it gives me all of the details of the meeting and links that allow me to accept the invitation or decline.  - Database Corruption Problems, Again Seems every 6 months or so my Entourage db gets corrupted. I try to export all items, and get a message saying that one of my email messages is corrupt. When I use the Database Utility to rebuild and verify, everything is fine, but then an export all produces the same trouble. The only solution is to create a new identity, and then take 6-8 hours using AppleScripts to move everything over. Anyone know what's going on? Are there better solutions? I know there's been lots of back-and-forth about the monumental database used in Entourage. I don't have problems with that, but I do with there were robust recovery and repair tools available.  - Entourage over data quota problem Does nayone have a fix for the following problem: I received a message that I was 100mb from being over quota in Entourage. I delete after putting items in the trash, so I don't think I should be that close to the edge. Upon getting this message I removed 500 MB from my folders. The next day I receieved a message that I was 50MB from being over quota. Within a day or two I could not access Entourage as the message read I was over quota.  - Combine Calendars Hi, In Entourage I have 2 calendars. One is one the computer, one on Exchange. If I want to schedule an event, I have to view both calendars to see when I should plan it.  - Can u email a web page (rather than a link) My friend emails me pages from a newspaper or imdb all the time and they show up in html. I asked and she selects all in the browser, switching to her email program. Cuts and pastes into the email. When I try to do that in Entourage it converts everything to like simple text.  - Yikes! "verify/rebuild database" Hi, it scares me to get a message that I should verify my database and possibly rebuild it. I think I did this last year and lost everything. Could you just walk me through this before disaster strikes? I archived all my mail to a remote hard drive to free up space and all is running well, but I got that message that database might be corrupted and should verify/rebuild. By the way, when I archived mail, it did not take lots of mail that is in folders on the left. How do I archive these too? I LOVE Entourage and really, really want it to work for me... Thanks!  - Unexpected question? Hi MVPs, Here is a different question for you: Do you use Safari or Firefox? No, this is not some survey, just me asking the experts. I have come back to Entourage after a long time of using Mail and iCal and Address book and when I click on a link Safari opens. That's when the question came to mind: What do you use? Personaly, I use Firefox because most often things will work there that do not in Safari. There are rare occations when it is the other way around, for that I hang on to Safari. Proper authentication required. Error: -17099 the entourage help suggests; check box. - SMTP server requires authentication when i check the box i get the following error message; Authentication failed because Entourage doesn't support any of the available authentication methods.  - Email appearing in a category when none is assigned Hi all. I started using Entourage for my e-mail about a month ago and all was well until just last week. I have not set up any 'rules' nor have I assigned any 'categories' or 'projects' to anyone in my address book, yet my e-mails are being put in the 'recreation' category and it's colour. I can go into each message and change the category back to none, the colour then reverts to the colours I have chosen.  - Calendar view date column problem When creating a custom calendar view, entries with repeating dates show the date of the first event.  - Database software that goes further thank Entourage I am sticking with Entourage for personal/business information management. But I've recently been trying to do mail merges and largish email-outs. I find the categories function useful but I now have so many categories (and they don't nest into categories and subcategories) that things are getting a bit unwieldy and haveing just recovered from a database corruption (becasue I have short and long- term incremental backups running. I think it's time to invest either time or money or both in a tool more suited to the task. Can anyone who's outgrown Entourage for more than what it is actually designed for recommend a piece of Mac database software that I can use for marketing purposes? I've looked at filemaker - I've played around with the trial download and found it not very intuitive. Perhaps I need to persevere with that?  - how to import emails into Entourage I am trying to recover downloaded emails from an old hard drive that I just replaced. It "crashed", or at least wouldn't boot up, though I am able to open files on it. It contains 3 weeks worth of emails that are not on my current hard drive since I hadn't backed up in that long. I've finally located the email accounts (users - my name - documents - Microsoft User Data - Office 2004 Identities), but the Entourage Import procedure won't allow me to select the folder to import, nor do the folders containing the email account names contain a "messages" file.  - Entourage sync and problems with calendar views The sync options are not present under the Entourage preferences pane. The Microsoft Synchronization daemon is not running and /Applications/ Microsoft Office 2004/Office/Microsoft Synchronization is a PowerPC exe and cannot be manually started via the shell.  - Entourage gone, but still working! I thought I had deleted Entourage, but it still keeps generating a link in iCal. When I do a search via Spotlight to find orphaned items, it allows me to delete folders and files but they keep re- generating, including the peskly Entourage link in iCal. ENtourage uses the date format specified in the System Preferences
(International prefpane > Formats).
You should make sure that all formats in there are according to what you
want (short date, medium and long dates...).
