I have been having some problems with my iBook lately and decided to
back up files before taking it in for repairs. I copied my Entourage
data files to a cd. Now, when I open Entourage, it takes me back to the
beginning and I can't seem to get back my information. Most of the
emails are not a problem, since most of my email is from IMAP accounts.
However, I hate to lose the notes that I had created and the calendar.

I went to another computer and tried to open the copy of the data file
with Entourage, but it told me that the file was corrupted and probably
couldn't be fixed. Is there any way to recover any of the data from
this file? Or any way, other than the Microsoft database utility to try
to fix the file?

I forgot to mention that I am using Entourage 2004.

What happens when you try? Do you get any error messages? Or just the new
database 'MS Welcome' message?

If so, make sure you have copied the files off the CD back to their right
place - "~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2004 Identities/[Identity
Name]/Database".

Then, if it doesn't appear, choose 'switch identity' from the entourage menu
and see if it listed there.

This sor tof error can occur when the copy of entourage has not been updated
to the same version number as the one that created the database. Make sure
you have re-applied all updates to entourage before attempting to read the
database.

None of that worked. Still starts as if I'm starting Entourage for the
first time.

I get the Entourage setup helper.

They are in the correct place.

Tried that and it's not there.

That may explain the message that the database is corrupted, but the
database still won't work with the version of Entourage that created
the it.

When I use the "get info" command for the database, the dialog box says
that the file takes up 18mb.

18mb is the default size for a new database.

What is the size of the database on the CD?

Copy it over again, replacing the empty one that entourage has created
there.

Both the database on the CD and the one on my hard drive are
approximately 18.1 MB

Do you mean copy from the harddrive to the CD or the reverse?

In that case they are both empty databases. It looks like you backed up the
wrong one.
