Is there a way to change the default reminder for setting a new event
in the calendar? In general preferences, it has the option to set
reminder to occur x minutes/days before, but that is the only option I
see, and even that doesn't seem to work.

When setting a new events, the default is an all day event, with
reminder 1 day before. And if I un-click all-day event, it starts at
12:00 PM. Is it possible to change the default to, say, 7:00 AM, with
reminder at 0 minutes before?

Create new events in Day, Work Week, or Week view. Such events will not be
all-day by default and will use the default reminder time you have set in
General Preferences.

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately it seems to be more trouble to do
it that way. Besides the fact that I prefer monthly view, even if I
right-click week (or day) from a particular day, it doesn't
necessarily go to the right week (or day). If I'm not mistaken, it
goes to the last one you viewed.

It's just an annoyance, I don't see why you shouldn't be able to set a
default reminder in monthly view. At least the reminders work though,
that's why I switched from iCal.

Yes it is.

The simplest thing is to select an event "slot" while in Week or Day view
and double-click it open. It will be set to the start and end times of the
selection. If you chose the start time you want, you can now choose the end
time - or else you can use the shift key when selecting in the calendar to
select an event spanning exactly the period (end time) you want (if it ends
on the half-hour) so no further adjustment is necessary. Whichever you find
easier.

I guess because it would have to implemented to do so - nothing in software
happens by itself. Since a lot of people have requested the same as you, who
knows - perhaps it will be done in a later version. You could help make that
more likely by requesting this feature via Help/Send Feedback.

Reliability of function does seem rather more important, yes. Reminders
work.
