Can someone please tell me how I can archive my 2006 and 2007 emails that I
have saved under the "Folders on my Computer"?

I have tried dragging the folders to the desktop but when I have a look at
the properties there is nothing in the folder?

I have entourage 2008 version 12.1.1.

I have 7g of emails and I desperately need to tidy things up!

Many thanks
Kim

I wrote a script called "Archive Message Folders" that probably does
exactly what you want:

As Jolly mentioned you can archive as MBOX files, but if you want your data
in a useful state, create an archive Identity.

Thanks Roger - can I choose what files to archive with this script?

Ie I only want to archive my 2006/2007 email.

Thanks
Kim

That's another way, yes.

Just keep in mind that this method stores the data in a single
proprietary Microsoft database file that you can open *only with
Entourage*.

MBOX files, in contrast, may be opened in any text editor, word
processor, and may be easily imported into other email software, since
MBOX is a relatively standard file format.

As with most anything, there are many ways to do what you want - you
just need to pick the option that best suits your individual needs.

This particular script archives everything to MBOX files. You still may
want to give it a try. You may find the total archived messages are
small enough not to make a difference.

If you want to selectively archive individual *folders*, all you need to
do is drag the folder to your desktop or a folder. The caveat here is
Entourage will not include any *subfolders* within the folder you drag
out; so you'll have to drag them out separately.

If you want to archive only messages in a certain date range, you could
create a Mail View (File > New > Saved Search in Entourage 2008, or File
> New > New Custom View in Entourage 2004) to find all messages whose Date Sent or Date Received are within a certain range, then drag that custom view from the folder list on the left to the desktop or a folder, which will create an MBOX file containing only those messages that match your criteria.
