 - Communicating with Outlook Users It's my understanding that communicating with Outlook users using HTML is problematic. My brief experience indicates that font sizes are never correct between the two platforms. One article I read suggest that until Entourage's HTML engine is "fixed" in the new release that it's best to use plain text when emailing an Outlook user. Outlook has a feature that lets you select an email address and make it so that all messages to that address automatically go out as plain text. I can't find that feature in Entourage.  - New Fiber, now requres a "Root Certificate"??? I helped a friend get set up with AT&Ts new fiberoptic service. He uses Entourage for email and after carefully following all of the setup instructions and Port overrides as directed (it all works). His domain mail that he picks up (for sending he uses AT&T outgoing smtp server) works,but frequently is interrupted demanding a new ROOT Certificate.  - Entourage stopped synching with Exchange 2003 I'm having the exact same problem. It started last Thursday around mid- day. So far I've emptied everything, flushed caches, rebuilt the database, created a new identity, etc.. and the symptoms are the same. The entire mailbox will synch up to the time that I started the new sych, all old messages will be retrieved but no new messages received by the server after I initiated the synch ever show up in my mailbox. I connected to the same server using Outlook 2007 in Parallels (no issues) and via OWA and it also works just fine. Something rather strange happening here given that it started so suddenly.  - Smartphones Has entourage yet found a smartphone that it can talk to? I have tried a number of different add-ins but all have failed to talk to my SE P900 properly. I have had contacts' phone numbers swapping (embarrassing) and meetings appearing at 9.00, 10.00, 11.00, 12.00 all on the same day (awkward) and all day events like Christmas day appearing on the 23rd, 24th, 25, 26th and 27th December (Ooops).  - Ridiculous Corporate Behavior Does Microsoft intend to make a patch available to users of Entourage v.X to make it compatible with the April 1 server upgrade? If not, why not? It is absolutely ridiculous that people who paid money to Microsoft to purchase Office v.X, specifically to have a desktop email client that interacts seamlessly with Hotmail, have now been denied use of their Hotmail accounts using Entourage v.X, on a whim and without proper notice. Though this type of repugnant corporate behavior is not new to MSFT, in the past it has made it a point to make security patches available even for email client software that it no longer supports or that has been "end-of-lifed".  - Entourage database file management Entourage seems to save all attachments to email messages with them. This reasults in the file becoming very large quickly in my environment because I get drawings, pictures and other large attachments regularly. Do people remove the files manually after they are saved. I save them regularly. Or are there compression techniques or orther -- that will allow me to use common technique of REGULARLY backing up my home file.  - Smiley face displaying as a "J" Ok, I admit that this is a very low priority question -- almost silly. Starting just a few weeks ago, emails sent to me from Outlook PC's that contain a smiley face show up as a "j" instead of the smiley face symbol.  - Happy Vonage customer but thinking to try CallVantage or ViaTalk Hi, I've been a Vonage customer for over a year and been generally happy with the service. The service has been quite reliable and I don't think I had any service outage in the past year. I am currently on $14.99 plan which gives me 500 free minute. In the past few months we have exceeded the 500 min and the bills ends up getting bigger than $25. Recently I just received a flyer from AT&T for their VoIP CallVantage service which offer unlimited call to US and Canada for $20 (rate applies the existing ATT high speed internet customer only). I think this deal suits my need just perfect. I checked ViaTalk website and it's even cheaper and loaded with features. Does anyone have any experience with CallVantage or ViaTalk? I like to save money but I don't want to mess around with my home phone, my wife will not be happy if I mess it up.  - Connect to OWA requiring client certificates? Is it possible to set up Entourage 2004 to connect to an Exchange Server with OWA that requires a client certificate on a smart card to connect? I've tried and it doesn't seem to work; doesn't ask me for the PIN or anything and the inbox and other folders on the server don't show up in the folder list. I know that I have the smart card setup correctly, since I am able to authenticate and login to the OWA site using Safari. If not Entourage 2004, will this be possible in Entourage 2008?  - iCal Launches automatically when syncing Hi Everybody, All of a sudden, iCal started launching whenever I sync... I'm not using iCal, just syncing Entourage to my Sony Ericsson K800i I have the "Sync with iCal and .Mac" checked in Entourage's prefs, but it has always been like this and iCal didn't launch before?  - Date Changed After Empting Cache Hello, I'm using Entourage 2004 as a http client to my Hotmail account. Needed to do some clean-up and "Emptied Cache". All good then resynched with Hotmail. One issue--the date now shows up as the date downloaded for all emails. Although the original sent date is still evident when an individual email is opened.  - Entourage started like never used before and all mails folders I installed Office for Mac 2004 software week ago when I got my first Mac computer. Suddenly today when I started Entourage again it started like never used before asking same questions as in first time. All mails downloaded in 6 days were gone too. My Main Identity database is 18Mb in size and I hope that this 18Mb have all my mails from first 6 days. When I try to import database using import function database icans are grey and cant be imported. If database is opened with entourage nothing is restored from Main Identity database.  - Display accounts as separate mailboxes like Mail.app? Hi I'm just exploring Entourage at present and I see that there is much about it I like as an email client however there is one thing about Apple's Mail client that I would love in Entourage and that is the display of email accounts as separate mailboxes. It looks like Entourage can't be configured this way, but it would be great if I'd got that wrong, however if it can't be made to do this I wonder if I can create some "Mail Views" which will show me from which account emails came from? It's easy to set up a "Mail View" for "Any Header" contains the email address for one of the accounts but I'm wondering if this will catch "BCC" emails?  - Messages Automatically Deleted I just configured Entourage to check my .mac account mail. Unfortunately, when it checks the mail, it automatically marks the messages as deleted and simultaneously removes them from the server and the mailbox. While they remain in Entourage in my network folder, they are deleted from my .mac account. How can I stop this automatic deletion from happening?  - Entourage quits unexpectedly and will not run when i open up ms entourage, it just say that entourage has quit unexpectedly. i tried to reopen it and it does the same thing. it wouldn't even open up all the way. as soon as the window opens up, it crashes right away. word, excel, powerpoint, etc. are working fine. i've tried to check the integrity of the database and it saids it's fine. i tried to rebuild the database, but didn't work. i was able to create another profile by holding down the shift key when opening entourage. it was working fine. i had 2 different inbox, both of which are connected to the same exchange server. however, after i rebooted my mac, my emails messages in my inbox begins to disappear. for some reason, the messages were moving to my old profile's inbox. the weird thing is, i have approximately 20 subfolders in my inbox with roughly 2.7GB worth of emails and they're all gone. all those folders are now empty. i decided to delete the new profile that i created because it may be confuse as to where to send my messages. after that, the "entourage quits unexpectedly" problem came back. at this point, i want to just uninstall entourage or ms office all together and reinstall it again. my only concern is where did all my messages go? i do see a database file that's about 7.5GB and hoping that all my messages are there. is this database file similar to a pst file like in outlook? if so then i should be able to create a new profile and connect to the database file and retrieve all my missing messages. i'd greatly appreciate any help or tips to point me to the right direction.  - Mail Sending format Hello Excuse me if this is the wrong newsgroup - I am new to Entourage (and Mac). Occasionally when I send an email the people that receive it get a format problem that tells them that their email client may not display mime format correctly. This doesn't happen to all emails. And occasionally when people reply to the email won't go and they have to start a new email. Is there a setting I can change that will stop this problem? I used to use Outlook and it didn't happen but I am unfamiliar with what settings to change in Entourage - even though I can see that there are a few options.  - Any Scripts to Export / Archive Local Mail Folders? Hi, Is anyone aware of a script/utility that will export or archive Entourage local mail folders AND maintain subfolder integrity, especially: 1) when the main local folder does not have any stored messages but the subfolder does. 2) will provide a folder structure for nested subfolders? I tried Berkowitz's Folder Export-Import utility, but it does not seem to back-up local folders if there is no message in the main.  - EMAIL ARCHIVING STRATEGY (Part II) Hello, I want to archive Entourage 2004 emails by creating several annual identities (back to 2001) in addition to the Main Idenitity for each previous years. This approach, I understand, will keep my current year Entourage Database "lean". Also, as I create .rge files from each of the previous annual identities...: 1) Does creating annual identities save any meaningful storage savings (non-Main Identities compacted) or does this approach just help keep the Main Identity lean? 2) I've tried to create .rge files for a few selected local folders through File->Export, but to no avail. Appears that .rge must do all files unless there is a specific "project" or "Category" selection. So, I assigned one of the folders a category (without assigning any of the emails within that local folder any category). Now, when I try to create a .rge file through File->Export and selecting the category, Entourage is not able to complete the task! Apparantly, the emails in the folder need to be assigned the same category? Is this true or do I need to do something else? 3) Based on the above, I tried then to then create a "custom view" and select one critera that defines the folder I selected with a named category that I assigned to that folder (not the mails within that folder). Again, Entourage appears to require the emails within the folder to have the same designated category assigned, too. Can a "Custom View" be defined on a folder level only without defining the emails in that folder with the same category? 4) I have been creating .rge files and then zipping to reduce storage requirements. Is this a relible and okay practice or does this practice create some risk to the integrity of the .rge file? Overall, my objective is to free-up storage and maintain searchability of emails. So, with annual identities and .rge files for each of those identities which are then zipped and stored, are there any other considerations or improvements in this approach?  - Syncing Entourage with iCal creates duplicates I'm syncing my Entourage calendar with iCal (using Sync Services in the Prefs) so that I can publish it for colleagues. Trouble is, it seems to duplicating certain items each time it syncs. I haven't been able to work out why some entries are duplicated and others not. The process also throws up hald a dozen conflicts each time where the Entourage event and the iCal event are identical - how is this a conflict? It's a feature I really like and would love to be able to iron out these two wringles. Really appreciate your thoughts. Hi, (OS X 10.4.9, Entourage 2004) Every time I subscribe to a new newsgroup I always do the following: Hide Project, Conversation and Categories columns and turn off 'Show in groups' Is there a way I can save this view setting or get Entourage to do this automatically?  - "Sent By" not visible to some Entourage recipients So far, I've got one verified user who's Entourage client won't display the "Sent By" info. I've verified that the Sender: field has been added to the message, and the sender is displayed when logged into the user's account with Outlook 2003. Other users I've tested are all displaying the "sent By" in Entourage. I updated the user from 11.3.3 to 11.3.4. but no change. I deleted prefs, but no change. When the verified user responds, the message is properly routed back to the Sender, that is, the delegate. But I suspect the Outlook setting "Send replies only to delegate, not to me" is a server-side rule. It's probably reading the Sender: header to route this, which means the missing "Sent By" is a client--side issue.  - Sync Entourage-iCal misbehaving I have been happily using Paul Berkowitz's excellent Sync Entourage- iCal script for some time now. Al of a sudden, strange doings: Whenever I select "check for deletions" in the dialog at the beginning of the script, the script ends up erasing hundreds of events from iCal - purportedly because they have been erased in Entourgae? - and then restoring them to iCal. The end result is correct, but it's very unnerving, not to mention highly time-consuming. I have replicated this several times. Every time I do a first-run sync (one-way Entourage to iCal), and then I do another one-way sync immediately (without changing ANYTHING in Entourage or iCal). Any thoughts? Why does it delete from iCal these "deleted" events, only to restore them 10 minutes later during the same script operation? What might be causing this?
