 - File Download Entourage vs. Outlook Express I'm trying to transition from my PC to a Mac mini (OS 10.4) and am having a lot of frustration with MS Office products. For example, I was recently sent an e-mail with a Word file attached. Outlook received (from my e-mail server at work) a 345k Word file that it had no trouble opening (should be the correct size for this document, looked fine). In Enrourage, downloading the same message, I got a 17k file with the same name and 'doc' extension and Word won't open it. Also, if it's really 17k, it's obviously not the whole file so would be worthless even if opened. Can anyone explain what might be going wrong here? Thanks!  - Clicking on font color or background icons causes Entourage to quit unexpectedly When composing an e-mail, if I click on the selection arrow to the right of the font color or background icon, Entourage immediately quits. I'm running Entourage 11.2.4 on a MacBook Pro running Mac OS 10.4.6. This problem just appeared a couple of weeks ago, and existed before and after I installed the 11.2.4 update.  - Office 11.2.4 and com.microsoft.entourage.notes If I update to 11.2.4 will I have the same problem referred to in the post titled "Sync pane (pain)" posted in the entourage group? I had the same problem as mentioned in that post, which was that after updating to 11.2.3, and removing unwanted Entourage stuff, in the .Mac system preferences pane, sync tab, we got an item "com.microsoft.entourage.notes" that we couldn't get rid of.  - What to do with exchange after rebuild I am using two computers one at home and one at office with Entourage 11.2.4 connected to an Exchange service through a service offered by Mi8 which is excellent. I have just got an alert saying my database on my home computer is corrupted and needs to be rebuilt. I seem to remember reading somewhere that once you have done a rebuild you have to be careful when you sync for the first time.  - Syncing Entourage with Blackberry 8700c using PocketMac Hi - I have been trying to sync my blackberry 8700 with Entourage Contacts and Calendar using PocketMac for Blackberry. Pocketmac has tried to help me troubleshoot, but I think it's an Entourage problem. My computer recognizes the device, but when I click "synchronize" using the PocketMac software, two error messages pop up - "The application ERimCalendar quit unexpectedly" and "The application ERimContacts quit unexpectedly."  - Forms based authentication exchange 2003 breaks login? I am the only mac user at our company, the company uses excahnge 2003 with web access and all has been fine untill last weekend, when they switched on "Form based authentication" to outlook web access, since then entourage keeps giving login errors: "Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. Your username/password or security settings may be incorrect. Would you like to try re-entering your password?" I have come acrross the following knowlegebase article that seems to describe my issue: http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;909268 Being the only Mac user, our IT department is relunctant to make any changes to server setup when all seems to be ok for windows users! Is the above knowlegebase article related to my issue? Is there anything I can do in my setup to get the entourage working?  - Copy saved mail from one Mac to another I have a folder containing copies of useful newsgroup postings, categorised by type (Excel, Access etc.) and have just got a new MacBook (And yes - they *are* as good as the reviews suggest), and am wanting to move/copy them across to my new machine. I can connect to the iBook via Airport, which I've used to copy other stuff but don't know where to start with this. If anyone could help I'd really appreciate it.  - Help! messages moving from one mailbox to another without reason Hi, I'm running entourage 11.2.3 (060209) on Mac OS 10.4.6 (intel). Using an imap connection, entourage has just started moving messages from an imap inbox to the inbox in the 'folders on my computer'. When it does this, it moves the messages to the Deleted Messages folder in the imap account, then copies the AGAIN to the inbox in the 'folders on my computer' and then finally deletes the mail from my imap account.  - displaying joined items Morning. How can I see a preview or an icon if another item, file or e-mail is joined with another Entourage item?  - Pictures in E-mails am new to entourage. when i get an e-mail, the pictures are not automatically downloaded (red "x's" appear) and i must click on "download" to get the pictures or graphics from the site sending the e-mail. i trust these sites so, how do i tell entourage to automatically download this into the e-mail? have tried several settings, but cannot figure it out. thanks!  - Entourage quitting Hi Entourage has been a bit slow and flaky on me for a while, quitting several times a week. Hotmail in particular has been problematic, causing Entourage to hang whenever I delete multiple messages at once. Today, however, in Hotmail view, the heading pane was blanked out where six or so headings should have been. (The messages before and after it were still there). Soon afterwards, Entourage quit on me and every time I reopen it quits immediately unless I can quickly switch out of Hotmail view. As soon as I return to Hotmail it quits again. I've tried deleting the most recent messages by visiting Hotmail on the web but Entourge still quits. I was running Entourage 10.1.4 but after this experience I tried updating to 10.1.6. NO change.  - Entourage 2004, Hosted Exchange, Reply From: Hi there -- I'm new to Entourage 2004. I have a hosted MSFT Exchange server with Mailstreet. I am set up with them and connecting fine via Entourage 2004, but they have no idea, and I have no idea how to enable the "Reply From" group set up in the Global Address List.  - Strange Error Message I am getting a weird error message every time Entourage checks mail, and it prevents my computer from going to sleep as per my energy saver preference. I wish I could attach it here. It says "Error: The mailing list rule 'ng-r-81-3417621-1115-1491-bf6e3a52@australia.care2.com' could not be successfully executed. Explanation: The message could onot be categorized because the category could not be found." Recently I tried, unsuccessfully, to set up some mail rules to avoid spam. Since this message mentions something about a rule, I deleted them. To my knowledge there are now no mail rules. I am at my wit's end with this. I called my ISP--absolutely no help.  - Entourage quits when you try to open preferences I have a user who was just switched to Entourage 2004. She has Office 11.2.0 (since 11.2.3 won't talk to the Exchange server at all). Everything is working okay except when she clicks on the preferences, the whole program quits! I have deleted all preference files, moved the 2004 identities out and let it recreate all files. Then going to preferences is fine. However, it wants to set up new account since I took out the whole DB identity folder. I put just the DB file back, and the program crashes. I ran the DB utility (on a copy) and while it said there was no problem with the DB I ran it anyway. Did not fix issue. Right now user has old DB file in place and as long as she does not go into preferences, Entourage is working fine. Any idea why this would happen and better yet, any fix?  - Entourage Syncronization ist slow Hi @ all, I`am a Newbie with Entourage on MAC. I have searched the Internet what i must do to use a Exchange Server 2003 with Macintosh. I have tested Entourage X that works with emails, calendar and so on. But the Public Folders, especially the Calendar in the Public folders dosen`t work. So i have tested Entourage 2004 with the newest Patches and everything works fine including the Public Folders and the Calendar. But he Problem is that the Syncronisation with the Exchange Server from the Public folders is very slow. At the first connect to the Public Calendar the syncronisation takes several hours. The next time the user uses this Public Calendar the syncronization takes again a very long time and the user doesn`t know if he had the actual Appointments or not.  - Entourage licensing problem? My wife and I have used Entourage simultaneously for years on our two MACs, while we were both on dial-up connections. We finally switched to Comcast cable, and suddenly, Microsoft won't let us both open Entourage at the same time. The 2nd person gets the message: "This installation of Microsoft Entourage X exceeds the number of installations permitted by the licensing agreement."  - download changed the look of MOVE folders in title bar I recently downloaded the latest and it changed the look of my folder names in the list that pops up in the Entourage title bar. for quick retrieval I appreviated all folders, ie. American Express, became AMEX, Bank of America became BA: AMEX BA My folder names stayed the same but now in the title bar when I wish to move a received email, I get this : AMEX(on my computer) BA(on my computer) When I look at my 30+ folders, it is dizzying.  - Delete duplicate untimed events Hi. Is it possible to build a list of duplicate events in the Entourage calendar and delete them en masse? Better yet, save one of each item? I'm not sure when it started, but "all-day" events in my Entourage calendar are being duplicated. If I enter an event as an all-day event, after a couple days I'll have dozens of entries for that item. I think the problem started when I turned on sync services in Entourage after loading the 11.2.3 update. I'm trying to keep the address book and calendar synchronized with my Palm TX, Entourage, DotMac and my mobile phone. I've tried deleting everything out of the Palm, phone, DotMac, Address Book and iCal and restoring a clean backup of my master Entourage and re-entering the new event data. After a couple days, the problem is back. Deleting the duplicates won't fix the underlying problem, but at least my calendar will be usable. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. As I am in a panic, I am asking you directly. My Entourage 'custom views' seems to be damaged. I use this feature all of the time to manage my large international address book and use it to divide my customers by country.  - Entourage Vx on intel mac New Macbook with 2 gig and used migration assistant and everything seemed to work well. Normally I never close applications but I happened to close entourage down and it will not restart unless I reboot. Log-in will not do it. Same thing happens with older version of Graphic Converter I was using as well. (4.8). Strangely Excel will start or restart when entorage will not. Once Entourage goes down - then word and powerpoint also refuse to restart Any help appreciated. As this is a new machine I cannot say if this was the case immediately or if it happened after adding some utility. Only utilities I am running are windowshade and fruit menu. Thanks in advance H. I use this feature all of the time to manage my large international address book and use it to divide my customers by country.  - Office 2004 Notifications (Reminders) not working I recently upgraded my dad's mac from Office 2001 to Office 2004. Notifications (reminders) worked fine in 2001, but once 2004 was installed the Office Notifications would just appear as a blank sidebar on the left of the screen. There are multiple Entourage identities and the Office Notification clock only appears for one of the identities, even though they are all set to have it turned on.  - Why not simply a "Mac Exchange client"??? A simple question, probably without a simple answer, but I need to vent a bit. In the OS 9 days, Outlook 2001 for the Mac was a full-featured client for Exchange servers. It was essentially a clone of Outlook 2000 on Windows. From what I recall, the functionality was nearly identical. A Mac user on Exchange with Outlook 2001 could do everything a PC Exchange user could do with Outlook 2000/XP. Calendaring, public folders, allowing other users' access to the mailbox or specific folders, the replied/forward status of the messages were preserved, etc., etc. Then came OS X, and for some reason M$ scrapped both Outlook and Outlook Express for the Mac and started over with Entourage, primarily intended to be a POP/IMAP client. As we all know, Entourage X had issues working with Exchange; Entourage 2004 is decidedly better and I'm thankful for that. Still, for those of us who must use an Exchange server, Entourage does not provide the same experience for Mac users that Outlook provides for PC users. Why? Why doesn't Microsoft make an Exchange client -- an Outlook clone -- for OS X that simply works? Why don't they make Outlook for the Mac? They were able to port Outlook to OS 9 -- is it impossible to do so under OS X? Why are those of us who exist in an Exchange environment forced to use Entourage? Why do we have to use this clunky, IMAP/WebDAV hybrid interface, held together with duct tape, to access an Exchange server? Why do we have to use Entourage, and have no support for Notes and Tasks on the Exchange server? Why can't we have data like the replied/forwarded status of a message synced to the server, instead of being local to each copy of Entourage??? And if Microsoft can't or won't do it, why doesn't someone else make a truly native Exchange client for OS X? Mail.app tries, but in my experience it's just too slow to sync with the Exchange server, particularly for large mailboxes. And of course, Mail provides no support for Calendar, Contacts, Public Folders, Notes, Tasks, etc. It's not a PIM the way Outlook is, the way Entourage tries to be. There's a cliche that it takes Microsoft three tries to get anything right. Windows didn't really hit the masses until version 3.0; and when the 9x line came along, Win95 and the first edition of Win98 were pretty lousy. Win98 Second Edition was the first one that could truly be called "stable." Maybe this will hold true for Entourage as well, and the next version of Entourage (2007? 2008?) will have real Exchange functionality. Any insights or comments, please share.  - HTML Links with different text How do I put a link in an email where the displayed text is different than the full link data? For instance, I want to put "Volunteer Here" in my text with a link to "http://www.myweb.com/valunteer/". I receive emails all the time that display this correctly, so I know Entourage is capable of handling it. I can do it in Word, but when I copy and paste into Entourage, it unmerges the link and the text. I can forward messges that do it, so Entourage is capable of sending it. What am I missing?  - Can't do global directory lookups when set to secondary Exchange If you are set to a secondary Exchange account in Entourage, the directory lookup feature (matching names normally appear from the GAL as the user types a last name on the To line ) does NOT work. The work-around is to change the From to the main Exchange main account, type in names and having the directory lookup work and then most importantly switching the From line back to the secondary Exchange mail account before sending the message.  - Entourage and Exchange - bug in displaying "To" field/column Hello, It appears that Entourage is mishandling the display of the To column/field when the following occurs: 1. The Entourage user is using Exchange and selects a name from the global directory when typing a last name on the To: line of a new message being sent. 2. The Entourage recipient of the message sent in step 1 will NOT see anything for "To" on the message. This occurs because it appears that a non-printing character is being included in "To:" email address of the message as in "Last, First<invisible character>". If the message source text (View menu/Source) of the received message is copied to Word, the invisible character will be seen (rectangle, or other character).  - Must do a Force Quit to close Entourage I recently installed MS Office:mac 2004 student and teacher edition on my iMac 17" computer. I found that when I try to quit Entourage, I get a spinning "color wheel" and have to do a Force Quit (about half of the time). The Office technical support person was courteous, and told me to go to Home, my name, Library, Preferences, and to delete all com.Microsoft files from my office preferences.  - -199 error when attaching Word file Hi, We are seeing random instances of "An Unknown error -199 occurred" when trying to attach a Word file to an Entourage 2004 (latest updates installed) message. There was a post on the Word group about a year ago with this same problem. The workaround is to copy all the text of the file to another document and replace the problem version of the file. This works for us as well, but the user is frustrated. The MVP suggested that the Word file was corrupted. The problem has cropped up on several files. The strange thing about this is that the files attach properly to Apple MAIL, Outlook Web Access, and Outlook on a PC. This makes me wonder if the problem might really be in Entourage, and there is nothing wrong with the file itself. What do you think, dear reader? How can I report this to Microsoft?  - Mail to Group problem Hello I am sending messages to groups containing several addresses. I check the "don't show addresses when sending to group" box. My own address is not included in the group. Yet people who receive my mail see in the To: field either "Group name" followed by <my e-mail address> (Entourage users) or just "my name" and <my e-mail address> (PC Outlook users).  - Database Utility Backup Failing Entourage 2004 Greetings, I have the latest version of Entourage 2004; I have used the Database Utility to successfully compact and backup many times in the past. Recently, when I use the tool, the system appears to work and I receive a notification of successful compact and backup of my identity. When I go to home\Documents\Microsoft User Data\Office 2004 Identities\Identity[Backed up"Date"], the only thing in the backed up identity folder is "Rules"...16KB. Now I have a rather sizeable DB of mail and such (on the order of 2 GB (uncompressed?). Not sure if the DB Utility has a size limit it can handle. Thoughts/ideas on how to get the DB Utility working again? I suppose I can just copy the existing DB (uncompressed?) to my backup drive...or I suppose I could even try compressing it with gzip or something like that to save spac...though at possible risk for later restoration perhaps.  - Project Centre - How to connect/synch remotely Hi, I am trying to work out how to get a remote powerbook user, who is subscribed to a project, to be able to synchronize over the Internet. She has no problems with Entourage mail (over IP) but the Project Centre apparently needs to connect to the file server (MS SBS2003) to synchronize the shared project. We can't get an AFP connection remotely - would an SMB work? or would we possibly have to have a VPN connection? The simpler the better please! I'm trying to import calendar data from Now Up-To-Date into Entourage X.
Don't ask me why, long story.
Want to Export Now Up-To-Date into Entourage then export Entourage or iCal
as vCal file to import into my Nokia N70 using an application I've
downloaded.
However Entourage won't import from NUD and gives me a "Now Up-To-Date file
missing" error, anyone knows anything about this problem or what I'm trying
to do?

Hi Richard,

I'm running into a similar problem with Entourage 2004 (11.2.5). The NUTD
calendar you're tryng to import is on your local drive or is it a NUTD
server calendar? Were you able to resolve the issue?
