Hi all,

I've got Entourage X.
Due some other issues with the box, I just installed new OS, etc.
After installing Office, I placed the old MUD folder (which I duly I
saved before all this) in the Documents folder. Entourage starts, but
can't read the data. Typical rebuild fails, as does Advanced. This is
pretty severe to me since I have important legal stuff in there.
Oh, and I have issues updating to 10.1.5. I've had the app for 2 (?)
years, it has survived several installations/updates, but now it's
impossible.
Have fixed permissions, cleared PRAM, etc.
What on earth is happening?

Additional info:

Just changed the permissions and privileges specifically on the MUD
folder through the Cmnd + i. Suddenly, the program opened, but with an
identity I used long time ago and never bothered to delete. When I tried
to change identity to the one I actually use, the same problems occured.

I then thought that I perhaps could "merge" the identities, or create
yet another and import the data from the failing one, but now I can't
open Ent any longer: back to the state I had from start.

The MUD folder is about 500Mb, but there are no less than 2 old
databases and caches after previous rebuilds (I use to do this on a
regular basis), so the actual database is about 50Mb. Is there someone
out there that might be able to "uncorrupt" the file if that's the case?

Hi Jonny,

The last time I had problems likes with were with Entourage X, wherein
the application said it didn't have the proper permissions to access the
data or something like that. My solution was using the Get Info button
and re-assigning the rights to the data file--did you get an error
message related to permissions? If so, then this could be the same issue
and changing the rights might help.

Eric,

Thanks for suggestion. As you might see now, that's exactly what I wrote
that I did - a minute before you made your post. :-)

No go :-(

Further "development":

Tried removing all microsoft plists in user/Library/Preferences/ plus
the folder "Microsft" in same directory. Still no go: The old identity
can be opened, but not the one I use.

Problem solved - sort of.....

I don't know why I didn't do this before. Alzheimer's disease, probably.
Anyway, I just kicked out the Database and Database Cache from the MUD,
changed names on the saved old ditto, and launched Ent without problems.

As I made a rebuild about10 days ago, the loss of data isn't too severe,
even if I'd love to get all of it back.

Hi,

If you are upgrading from OS 9 to OS X, you cannot just copy over the MUD
folder.

Could you give some more details on versions and what OS you upgraded
from/to?

I also suggest upgrading to Panther or Jaguar at least.
