It sounds like he has both his SBC Yahoo and EarthLink accounts set up in
Entourage, right Greg? If that's the case, go to Tools -> Accounts, open
your EarthLink account, and make sure the Account ID matches the E-mail
address. Then change the SMTP server to "smtpauth.earthlink.net" (without
the quotes). Click the button for "advanced sending options", check the
option for "SMTP server requires authentication", and choose "Use same
settings as incoming mail server".
