Hello All,

Looking for some help. I've used Entourage to connect to my Comcast
POP account successfully for the last couple of years. This morning
when I launched Entourage, I received my emails to my Inbox just fine,
but when trying to send emails, I received the following error message:

Error:

Permit Denied

Explanation:

Cannot send mail. The SMTP server does not recognize any of the
authentication methods supported by Entourage. Try changing the SMTP
authentication options in Account settings or contact your network
administrator.

Nothing has changed with my account settings, but to play it safe; I
deleted my current Account Settings and established new ones only to
receive the same error message.

Can anyone offer any advise or suggestions?

Many Thanks!
Brian

Oh, Brian, I wish I had the answer! You describe my new problem
EXACTLY! This problem appeared this morning. Last night I installed
Apple's Security Update 2005-008 and Java 1.3.1 and 1.4.2 Release 2. I
had no problems with Entourage before that. (Oh, one other thing I did
last night--left the system on all nite so the maintenance scripts
could run automatically at 3 a.m. or so as I'm told they do--but I
unplugged the ethernet so I wouldn't be open to the internet all that
time). Could any of these installs or new maintenance be the culprit
for Entourage. (I did fix disk permissions after the updates, as we're
advised to--that didn't help a whit).

ANYONE HELP??? PLEASE????

Andrea

I am having no trouble sending or receiving on my Comcast account. For
Sending, in the Enhanced sending options window, I set SSL on, Override SMPT
port to 465 and Authentication on. Check the Use Same Settings button if
you are receiving from Comcast, otherwise use the other button and enter
your Comcast userid and password.

I'm also using a Comcast account with entourage and it works fine. Perhaps
something changed in your area of the country. I'm using no special settings
for either sending or receiving from Comcast.

I'm having the same type of issue here, although its on a different ISP. I
get this on an IMAP account from time to time and the only way around the
error message is to delete and re-create the account. I've tried every thing
from rebuilding the database (even though its realy off what could normally
solve the issue) to removing office and all associated files but it still
comes back from time to time. Any one have an idea what may cause this
seemingly random and erronus (as we don't have authentication on our smtp
server and they have not even changed the ports or used ssl).
From what I know, its Linux postfix server.
