 - Import address book from Outlook 2000 (PC) to Entourage? You would think that Microsoft could get this right, no? When I export from Outlook 2000 to a CSV file (windows or DOS, doesn't matter) and then try to import to Entourage, I get nothing. All of the fields are there (I can see them) , but a couple of things go wrong: 1: Entourage does not map the fields from the CSV file into the fields in Entourage, even though it knows what stuff is. I can easily scroll through all of the contacts in the import dialog and see the data. The result is that all of the fields are mapped into the "notes" field in Entourage, somewhat useless. 2: there seems to be no way to manually map stuff on my own, even though the instructions say that you can do this.  - Syncing From Entourage to Exchange I just moved to an Exchange account and am using Entourage 11.2.3 to access it. Most functions seem to be working fine. The one trouble I'm having is moving contacts and calendar events from Entourage to the Exchange server. It looks like there are no syncing options for this -- it's supposed to happen automatically. However, I still see the contacts and events in Entourage. But, the calendar and contacts under the Exchange server are empty. Does anyone know if this is supposed to happen automatically? Thanks.  - Entourage locking up on opening exchange Calendar Hi all, I'm using Entourage 2004 11.2.3 on PB g4 osx10.3.9 connecting to an exchange 2003 server. Every time I either click on the 'Calendar' icon, or on the Calendar folder of the exchange account Entourage freezes up. I checked the activity monitor and the Database Daemon takes all the cpu (90+%) and then gets hung up. I have to forcequit both the daemon and then entourage. If I go to the local calendar on My computer, I have no problem. I have deleted the exchange account and re-created it, tried to delete all entourage preferences I can find in finder, including database and nothing. Any ideas please?  - Duplicate Messages - Double Emails I just upgraded to Office 2004, Entourage 11.2.3 w/ my G4 OSX 10.3.9. I am getting duplicate email messages in one POP3 account but not the other, both filtered and unfiltered. That is, the Good Account works even if mail is filtered into a folder other than In Box. Same ISP for both accts; same ISP as 3 days ago w/ Entourage X. I have reviewed many similar posts/threads on Mactopia. Most of them trail off into a state of non-resolution. I have rebuilt my DB by holding down option when booting Entourage. No dice. None of the accts has an option set to leave mail on the server.  - AppleScript "Create Note from Event(s)" ?? Hello - I am on Entourage 11.2.3, Office 2004, OS/X. I've been struggling to learn a little AppleScript, and noticed the scripts Entourage comes with, which are to create from messages, either of events, tasks, or notes. These are the scripts in the default scripts menu. I'm looking for something that would create a note from a selected event or events. I noticed you unfortunately cannot drag and drop things around in Entourage, which is something sorely missing in my opinion compared to Outlook. I'm used to that. I thought I would be able to use the "create note from message" script as a base, and convert it to instead create notes from selected events. However, it seems that the AppleScript dictionary does not support what I am trying to do. The original MS script is below, and I started with: -- get the currently selected message or messages set selectedMessages to current messages I tried converting this to: set selectedEvents to current events ... but this just gives a compile error: Expected end of line but instead found plural class name.  - Rebuild database, lose newsgroup subscription info Whenever I'm forced to rebuild my Entourage database, I lose all my newsgroup subscriptions. It's a real inconvenience.  - Improving a Contact-from-text script I've got a script here that can often take someone's contact info and place it into a new Contact. (I'm placing the script below). However, it doesn't always work, and I can't figure out why. If anyone can improve upon the script, I'd be most grateful. (I use this particular script ALL the time, for when I have someone's Name, Address, Phone, Email). As you'll see in the script, there are a few formats that it's supposed to work in. However, here's a fresh example of where I can't get it to work. I just received the following info: John Smith School 2850 N. Wabash #1200 Chicago, IL 60616 310-225-5300 Yet when I run this script, it gives me either this missmatched Conct info: John Smith School Chicago IL 60616 310, 225 5300 ...or it gives me a parsing error on the Address line. I've tried adding paragraph marks at the end of each line, and copying and pasting this from a basic Text Edit doc, all sorts of methods for the original contact text. Yet it doesn't work. And yet that contact info is in a format that the script is supposed to allow for. Can anyone tweak this so that it would work?  - Default View (Groups) I upgraded to Office 2004. Entourage now insists that I view my mail in Groups (View / Arrange By... / Show in Groups. I personally think Groups are annoying and get in the way. It doesn't appear that MS decided to give the user control over this in Preferences.  - Entourage 2004 11.2.3 failing to connect to SMTP using SSL Hi, I have an IMAP account (NHS net) that I would like to use with the latest version of Entourage. I have all of the settings, and when put into either Entourage X or Mail they work. But when I use the same settings in Entourage they do not. I think that it is something to do with the root certificates. When I first set up the new account in Entourage I received the "Unable to establish a secure connection to xxx because the correct root certificate is not installed" message, that seems to be a problem to many (from my google searches!). I have tried to sort this out by doing the following: 1. Getting my own free digital certificate from Thawte 2. Asking the helpdesk of my IMAP account to send me their root certificates. They sent me three files, called ldap1_B64.cer, GTE_ROOT_CA_B64.cer and CW_ICA_B64.cer. I dragged them one at a time into Keychain access. The first went in fine as a X509 certificate, as did the third. But the second one said "The specified item already exists". The main problem I have is that the email account still does not work after this. I can receive emails using it, but not send them. As far as I know everything is set up ok. The outgoing SMTP server is on a different port (587), but I have temporarily disabled the firewall to see if that was the problem and it was not.  - Entourage Export Fails in 11.2.3 I use to be able to get a .vcf file for the whole address book using Export that all kinds of applications loved. Now it's a tab-delimited file that nothing likes. I can get .vcf files when I drag an entry to the desktop. But if I try to drag all on them to a folder, I get about a third of them, not all. And with the Export function where you select various options, I get an error at the end that it was incomplete because I stopped it. I didn't stop it. So other than the new Sync Services that seem to be real scary, no guarantee that things won't get wiped or over merged, there is no easy way to externally manage contacts anymore. I'm new to Entourage 2004 (and OS X) and for the most part my experience with Entourage has been much better than it has ever been with Outlook (and that's saying a lot considering how good Outlook is.) Anyways, I'm having an issue trying to synchronize deleted emails with my main, POP3 account. I use Gmail as my main email account and am checking it in Entourage via POP3. If I want to delete an email (both the Entourage and Gmail) I have the "A copy of this message is on the server. Delete from server" option, yet only the downloaded copy gets deleted, not Gmail's copy. I also have "Delete messages from the server after they are deleted from this computer" enabled in the account settings. I know POP3 isn't the best solution and this happens in just about every other email client I've ever used, but I was hoping Entourage would improve it. It might be worth mentioning that I set Gmail to store a copy of my email when I access it via POP3 client (mainly so I have a remote copy if I'm not using my laptop)...though I don't believe that is the problem.  - Commonwealth Games Daylight Savings Time Zone Error Here in Australia, the government decided to extend Daylight Savings for one week to not upset the Commonwealth Games timetable. This has meant it has thrown out the time integration for South Australian, Victorian, New South Welshman and Taswegien Mac Office 2004 users for the next week.  - Create appointments via drag & drop? Hi! I have a short question. Is it possible to create calendar appointments by dragging & dropping tasks or other Entourage Elements to the calendar? I am not sure, but I think it WAS possible in the past. However, it doesn't work anymore nowadays (Entourage 11.2.3). If this never has been possible in the past then this is a shame.  - Messages only partially downloading OS 10.4.5, Entourage 11.2.1. I think I've been through this before and I don't remember how to do it. Messages over a certain size are not being fully downloaded when I "send and receive mail". I've checked the Account Settings and *do not have checked* the box that says to only partially download messages over a specified size. In spite of that, large messages are not fully downloading until I give a message-specific instruction after opening the message. My recollection is that I had to do something in two places and I'm danged if I can remember where the two places are. I appreciate your consideration and advise.  - Open other's Exchange calendar I'm trying to open another user's calendar. I know I have appropriate privileges because I can open this other calendar on a Windows box. We have a couple of users in the dept who do not have access to Windows. They need to be able to open the calendar of a couple of conference room resources in order to schedule them. When I go through the process, an item shows up in my mail box list as though it's an inbox, but of course there are no items to show in that mode. How can I get this to work properly?  - Images don't display - Rebuild doesn't work I'm running Entourage v.11.2.1 (051004) under OS X 10.4.5. Had a glitch that caused Entourage to unexpectedly quit. When I restarted it, images in HTML mail are no longer being displayed. Here's what I've done: 1. Checked the Database - reports corruption and suggests Rebuild. 2. Rebuilt twice and symptom remains, and the report still shows corruption, as in 1., above. 3. Ran Disk Utility's "Repair Disk Permissions" on the boot drive - all appears OK. 4. Used DiskWarrior (v.39) to rebuild and replace the disk directory (twice), after which zero sectors are reported out of order. 5. Problem still continues, as in 1, above. 6. I've checked the settings for displaying images in HTML mail, on a hunch it might have gotten unchecked, but that wasn't the case; I still unchecked and re-checked it, but with no change in the problem behavior. I haven't tossed any Entourage preferences, tried a re-install of Entourage, and I haven't installed the most recent update to Entourage. The database (there's only one identity on this machine, the Main Identity) was 2.86 GB and after the first rebuild it shrank to 2.68 GB. I threw out about a significant number of email in the Deleted Mail box (I have a rule normally empty anything over 10 days old in that box, but I get a lot of junk/spam and thought it couldn't hurt to empty all but the very latest. I have yet to rebuild again (will do that overnight). The Main Identity folder (which contains the Main Idenity Database and the three other Main Identity files) doesn't reside on the boot hard drive, but is on an external FireWire drive, with the Main Identity folder then aliased to the appropriate place in the Microsoft User Data folder in the Documents folder. It has for several years always functioned fine there, but I could (but haven't yet) put the actual Main Identity folder back in it's normal place on the boot hard drive if needs be. I'd hate to have to start over from scratch. I have at least 7 or 8 years of mail saved, as well as about 6,000 addresses.Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated! Unable to establish a secure connection to sbsserver3.local because the correct root certificate is not installed If you continue, the information you view and send wil not be secure.  - Address completion problem Since I upgraded to the latest Entourage 2004 version I've noted that the address completion when composing a new e-mail doesn't work as I expect. When I start typing a name in the "to" field, the address completion only finds addresses on our company LDAP server. It does not find names in my local address book. In order to get them I need to click the little address book icon and use the expanded address pane to search for the relevant contact.  - Cannot attach Word/Xcel files in entourage! This is such a basic problem, i can't believe i can't find out how to solve it! I can send attachments, one at a time, thru either word or excel, but CANNOT attach them from within entourage...it says action cannot be completed. error (-8058). I noticed they all come up with autofill so somehow they are being stored. Is there anyway I can still expor the address?  - My Database keeps getting damaged I transfer my Database back-and-forth between my home and work computers at least once a week. Recently, I started receiving the following pop-up message only on my home computer: "Your Office database is damaged Do you want to quit MSN Messenger and all Microsoft Office programs so that the Database Utility can run?" After repairing the database it seems to go away but then comes back. This has only happened on my home computer and not the one at work. Any idea what could cause this? Thanks!  - ENTOURAGE TRIAL I am unable to drag and drop emails into my Calendar. Help told me to hold down the option key and drag and drop but it does not work.  - Cross platform punctuation mis-translation When I send a message to someone on a PC and they respond, including some of my original message, the punctuation marks get messed up. Can't remember all of the issues but at least these: Apostrophes come back as commas Open quotes com back as double commas Close quotes come back as percentage sign Other weird stuff as well for dollar sign, exclamation, etc. I'm guessing this has something to do with Unicode, but have no idea how or where to fix it.  - Categories and projects disappear All of my categories disappear when I rebuild the database. This has happened a few times in the past couple of months and it takes a lot of work to go back into the messages, calendars, contacts, etc. and re-establish the categories with each item. For example, I have a simple category called "Birthdays" which I associate with a calendar entry for someone's birthday. When the database gets rebuilt, those associations disappear completely. This is also true for e-mail messages. Projects, on the other hand: only some of these associations disappear. Some messages and calendar items keep their project associations and others do not. I am using Entourage 2004, fully updated. Mac PowerBook G4 1.5 GHz with OSX 10.4.5. We synch to an exchange server. Any advice on how to keep my categories intact? Thank you for your help.  - Bug: Since 11.2.3, Entourage/Microsoft News Server #s of unread Since updating to 11.2.3, when I click on the titles in the Entourage Mail sidebar for microsoft.public.mac.office, microsoft.public.mac.entourage, microsoft.public.mac.excel or microsoft.public.mac.word, I frequently see false numbers of "new" unread posts. I have View set to Unread only. If I click on one of the newsgroup titles, its name may turn from lightface to boldface font and a number will appear but when I look inside the newsgroup, no new posts appear. Now, for example, the Entourage newsgroup shows 6 unread but when I look, there are no new posts and none unread; the Word newsgroup shows 2; Excel shows 1 and Office remains light-faced without any number for unread. At other times, when there are actual unread messages, the sidebar display will show more than appear on my screen. I'm running OS 10.4.5 and have found no problems when I run Disk Utility's Repair Permissions. The newsgroups' false numbers in the sidebar continue even after a rebuild of the database.  - Backup Error/Problems So I have Office 2004 on my work and personal machines. I use Entourage for my work e-mail account. Here's the weird thing. I like to backup my Entourage e-mails onto my home powerbook. I drag the Microsoft User Data folder from my work ibook and into the User/Documents folder of my powerbook, or the Office 2004 Identities folder into the appropriate place on my powerbook. For some reason, this no longer works. If I do this, whenever I open Entourage, it tells me there's a problem with the database and I need to rebuild it. Only if I use the Database Utility, it gives me an error message after I click the button to have it rebuild. I can't get past the error message and thus, can't rebuild it and can't get Entourage to open. Also, when this happens, if I open word, it give me an error message about a database error but still runs fine after the error message comes up. I'd really like to be able to find a way to synch entourage from my ibook to my powerbook. Why won't this work anymore? Anybody have any ideas or suggestions? Any input would be much appreciated.  - SMTP authentication error Hi. I'm having this problem in Mail and Entourage both. In Mail.app, when I try to send an email (SMTP password authentication enabled) I get the error: "The SMTP server "mail.**********.com" rejected the password for user "****@**********.com" Please re-enter your password, or cancel." (I put the stars there for obvious security reasons) In Entourage, I get: "SMTP authentication failed. Your account ID or security settings may be incorrect. Would you like to try re-entering your account ID/password? Yes/No" So in both, I tried re-entering the login for both. I checked and double-checked the settings in both Entourage and Mail. Both can receive, but neither can send. My boss is also having the same issue on a different internet connection with Entourage.  - IMAP: Saving "Sent Mail" to Another Account Greetings - I'm trying to switch over to Entourage for all of my email needs and one thing is preventing me so far. I have a couple of different IMAP accounts that I use. When I send mail from any of them, I have a copy saved in the "Sent" folder on only one of them. Thunderbird makes this incredibly easy by allowing me to edit Account1's preferences, and tell it to save a copy of all Sent mail to Account2's sent folder. Is there a way to do that w/Entourage?  - Desktop Alert with strange new font I'm running Office 2004 on OS 10.4.5 with Spam Sieve 2.4.2 in the background. After upgrading to Entourage 11.2.3 last week, my desktop alerts, which were in Verdana or one of the other standard fonts is now in an almost unreadable wispy cursive font.  - First AppleScript - Simple Categorizer Hello - I tried my hand at a very simple AppleScript to set the category of incoming mails when fired via a rule in Entourage 2004. It checks for From addresses, and subject strings, and sets the category of mails that match, to "Expiring". The idea is that it will mark certain mails that get "stale" quickly, after a couple days, and I can use a view to grab them and then delete them. Keeps the mailbox slim. I put it up on ScriptBuilders, and will update it as it improves (it can only improve, I'm sure, as it is a first effort with no error control or anything). However, I cannot figure out how to check for "reply to" addresses. Can someone please advise if that is possible in an applescript?  - sending links to a files on a windows 2003 server? Hello, How do I send a link to a file. For example if the file was at \\our-server\shared\proposals\acme.pdf - how do I send a link so that you can click on the file - when I did it in outlook 2003 to another users in outlook, they could just click on the link and the file opens. When I send the link to someone in entourage - they can put their cursor over the link and they get a hand with a finger pointer but they can't click on the file. Is there another key they need to hold to allow clicking on it or a security setting I need to change on their system or is this just a limitation for mac clients?  - Send Complex HTML X 2.0.4 makes Ent crash Hi, I'm sending out a daily newsletter in html, using Send Complex HTML X 2.0.4., Entourage 11.2.3 (060209) on Mac OS 10.4.5 and a G5 single processor. It's been working flawlessly for ages, using previous versions of both OS and Entourage, too. But a couple of days ago, Entourage crashed when I went to the script menu and select the script. Poof. I ran all cron jobs and other standard fixes, threw out various plists, etc, to no avail. So I downloaded a fresh copy of the script, threw out the old, installed the new and relaunched Entourage. Now it worked fine again, but only until I shut down the computer and rebooted. Then, I had to go through the process again and installed a new copy. The only change I did to the system was that I deleted one of the Asian (?) fonts that came with the OS whatever its name was, as my font manager (Font Agent Pro) indicated that it might be corrupted. As I never use the font anyway, I just deleted it. (I also trashed the various font caches using Font Finagler.) What might be the reason for Entourage to crash? Any ideas?  - Problem with address book Hi folks I have iMacG5 Mac OS X Version 10.4.5 Entourage 2004 for Mac Version 11.2.3 I sent a post about this problem earlier but the only response I got was that it shouldn't happen. I am attempting to send e-mails to a group that I have created. These e-mails are a weekly newsletter The e-mail to one of the people in the group was returned to me with the message "unknown user" etc I checked with the recipient. He told me that he now had a new e-mail address. I changed his address in my address book - deleting the old address completely. The following week I sent the group e-mail again - and received the same response - as if it had gone to the "old" address. SO I decided to delete the contact completely in the address book and delete the group completely - and re enter the contact as a new contact then recreate the group. I did this - but the following week I got the same response. So I decided to delete the group completely again, delete the contact, empty the trash, rebuild my database, restart the computer, then create a new contact and create a new group. The following week I sent out my newsletter - once again it has bounced back to me from the wrong address - this is an address that no longer appears anywhere in my contacts or my group. The recipient is not receiving the newsletter at his corrected address - and there are other recipients who tell me that they are not receiving the newsletter either. SO I thought - one more time... I deleted the group - deleted the contact - emptied the trash - restarted the computer - rebuilt my database - recreated the contact - recreated the group. BUT - the same thing is still happening! The person's INCORRECT former address is admin@raweneprimary.school.nz His CORRECT address - as it appears in his contact and in the "Group" is para@raweneprimary.school.nz If I attempt to send an individual e-mail to him the correct e-mail address comes up in the "To" box. WHY, when I send an e-mail to the group does it persist in trying to go to admin@raweneprimary.school.nz - an address that I have deleted several times now! This is the response I get - but I haven't tried contacting the "postmaster" as it seems to me that the problem is that my computer is sending the e-mail to the wrong recipient even though I have changed it! calendar and the Address Book. And do you have to run the sync services
