Sluggish Switching to Address Book

Entourage 2004 v11.1 running under Mac OS 10.3.9 on PowerPC G4 533MHz 348 MB
SDRAM.

Yesterday I backed-up and rebuilt the Entourage database. Now switching from
any Mail ? Main Identity view to Address Book takes not less than 12
seconds, whereas it used occur virtually instantaneously.

Any suggestions as to how I lost my speed and how I might regain it?

Click on the Name column header (probably twice to get back into A-Z order).
Then switching should be fast again.
