    - Suddenly expanding database This morning I had a problem with Entourage, the database daemon started using all available CPU resources. I had to force quit Entourage to get control back. I then did a verify on the database to see if there was a problem. There was so I did a rebuild. The resulting database was about 550MB. I continued to have problems during the day and I had to rebuild one more time at the end of the day. This time the database had increased to 698MB in size! I did not receive any significant emails today so it was not emails. So I went and looked at my calendar events. Suddenly there are 91,600 calendar events! These are all in the one category which I synchronize with the Exchange server at one of my clients. Some past events have over 50 entries for the one event and many of the events are not even in the particular category which is supposed to be sync'd! I have been using Entourage 2004 for synchronization with this server for months. This problem appears to have started today. What happened?     - Error 4362 and attachments I think I have pinned this down, and want to see if it is repeatable for others as it is for me. I get error 4362 in Erage 2004, but this happened in the past version as well. I think it only pertains to pop connections, but I can not be sure. Steps I do to reproduce consistantly: 1) Make new email message 2) address to someone 3) Enter subject 4) attach a few files 5) save 6) type body of message 7) send This is when I get the error, if I try to view source on the message, it will not allow it, if I try to save the message, I get just a bit of it, certainly no attachments are saved, no idea where they went. It is a little sporadic, but it does happen enough I just put on the attachments as the last step. This however, makes it hard to prepare a draft email and come back to it later then send it. I have to remove the attachments and go hunt them down again to re-attach them. I spoke with a friend using E-rage, which is a older version, and he also has the problem, to the point where he just does not use attachments until the last step. A second firend, in E-rage 2004 has it happen as well, though can not really provide much as to when, why, or how it happens. The MVP's website mentions in regards to this error things that seem to not relate at all. Suggestions, or at least, is this a known bug that is being worked out? Since it is such and old bug, I would guess it is not being looked at, so I aim to fix that. If only I could figure out how in the heck to send feedback like I used to.     - Entourage Calendar won't print! Yikes! I have now put all my scheduling into entourage (MS OFFICE 2004 - Student/teacher) and it will not print off either of my networked computers! Emails print fine. letters print (I think). Just the CALENDAR. System cinfiguration is as follows: 15" aluminum powerbook (OSX 10.3.9) wireless connect to airport base station with wired-connection to older IMAC (also OSX 10.3.9). Printer is epson stylus c86 (usb connected to base station) everything worked when I was using MS Office v.X, but when we got 2004 version now it won't print the calendar?     - Zipped attachments Our email servers automatically block .zip attachments to messages, both inbound and outbound. With Outlook in Windows, we can get around this for internal messages by changing the file extension to something else, and then changing it back again at the receiving end. This doesn't work with Entourage, but it may not be Entourage's fault, but the Mac OS (10.4, on my machine, but 10.3 on another user's machine.) If I change the zip to something like zip_ for instance, when I attach it to a message either the Mac OS or Entourage is appending another .zip, so I end up with foo.zip_.zip, which gets blocked at the server. The reason I suspect the OS may be doing it is that in the file access dialog with which I select the attachment, the file is labeled as a zip archive, even though the name is not correct. Something internal to the file itself is recognized by the OS as a zipped file. Anyone know how to stop this from happening, or some other work-around? Tag: Script for duplicates Tag: 54839

    - LDAP Server Error (-3248) and Slowness I have two identical 1.67 Ghz. PowerBooks w/1.5 GB of RAM running Mac OS 10.4.1. On both machines, when trying to access our company's global address list (check name) this error message comes up: An unknown error (-3248) occured. LDAP Server Error Both users are unable to access the GAL. Additionally, one of the users reports extreme slowness (beachballing) and repeated timeouts requiring him to login many times a day. I have excluded both users' Microsoft User Data folders from Spotlight indexing, but have had no luck yet. Any ideas? This has to be resolved soon or we will be forced to use Outlook in Classic.     - HELP! Entourage contacts disappeared after HotSync Can someone help or tell me what went wrong? I just installed Palm Desktop software on my Powerbook and then installed MS Entourage's Handheld Sync utility. I connected my Sony Clie SL-10 to the Mac's USB, and did a HotSync with it. My entire Address Book and Calendar entries in Entourage are gone now! Where are they, and can I get them back? Any help with this is greatly appreciated...     - Marking calender items as "private" in Ent2K4 Hello everyone! One of my users asked if there is a way in Entourage 2004 to mark items as "private", so other users can´t see them. I know that only users with delegated privileges actually can see them, but we have a piece of software that looks into the Exchange database and posts every calender-info on the intranet (Netwise, a telephone-exchange intranet-app) unless it´s marked as "private".     - Strange email addresses appear in Recently Used Address list Strange email addresses of unknown, possibly malicious entities are appearing in my Entourage Recently Used Address list, mixed in with valid email addresses I've actually used. I don't know who those entities are. I've never emailed them. They are not in my entourage address book. I never open junk mail nor do I ever click on any links within emails. Also, I keep all viewing panes turned off to prevent malicious code from auto-executing. I don't know how or why they are appearing in my Recently Used List. I can clear the list using Entourage Preferences, but within a day or so more mystery entities appear in the list. Are these (a) potentially harmful, (b) symptoms of a functioning macro virus, (c) of no particular concern, or....what? Virex says my computer is clean.     - Consensus on 10.4 Tiger corupt attachment issue? I've been following the "Corrupt attatchments since upgrade to Tiger" thread, in hopes of avoiding the issue when I upgrade to Tiger. To sum up what I seem to have been reading: Little Snitch and NetBarrier are in conflict with 10.4 and Entourage 2004. The Little Snitch problem has been resolved with version 1.2b5. People who don't use either of these programs have not had the corruption problem. N'est-ce pas? I'd appreciate confirmation of the current state of affairs from those who do and don't use the offending programs. I don't use them, and the question hovering around the attachment issue is all that's holding me back from upgrading to Tiger.     - Problem with "RE<space>:" I have a french MS Office 2004, and when I reply Entourage automatically add a space between "RE" and ":". Does anyone know how to avoid that behaviour ? It is very inconvenient to other news readers. I have also a problem with automatic capitals at the begining of sentences. It's rather inconvenient. Since upgrade from Exchange 2000 to 2003 calendar and contacts synchronisation from Entourage X (10.1.6) does not work if both checkboxes "DAV service requires secure connection" on the Advanced tab in Entourage X AND "require secure channel (SSL) and 128-Bit encryption" are checked for the /Exchange Web in IIS 6 Manager. I am pretty sure that is has something to do with the upgrade of our server (from SBS2k to SBS2k3), because the W3SVC1 log does show HTTP 401 (authorisation required) error messages from the day we performed the update. The logfile tells us: 2005-06-17 07:47:18 192.168.1.10 PROPFIND /exchange/lars/ 443 - 192.168.1.15 Entourage/10.0+(Mac_PowerPC;+DigExt;+TmstmpExt) - 401 2148074254 276 540 Nevertheless synchronisation DOES PROCEED if I UNCHECK all of them, the "DAV service requires secure connection" checkbox in Entourage X and the "require secure channel (SSL) and 128-Bit encryption" checkbox in IIS Manager.     - entourage - simple save a project calendar as a web page - how hard can it be!? I have now spent hours trying to get what must be a simple answer to a simple question. It just doesnt seem likely that this function is not possible... I dont want to share as in have others be able to change in real time a calendar. i understand that. I simply want to save a projects' calendar as a web page. The option is there from within a project in entourage but instead of publishing just the events associated w/ the project it publishes every event. from every project! And every task. I tried creating a calendar view w/ just a specific project but there is no option to save as web page. This just cant be this hard can it? I must be missing something.     - Entourage sync to Web Calender Does anyone have any suggestions. I need to use Enourage over Apple Mail, but I like the idea of being able to sync to a web based calender - syncing my entourage data....cal, contacts, tasks, notes and then being able to sync to a PC and from there sync to pocket pc's, smartphones, palm life managers, etc. I have tried and tried with PocketMac,it is just not consistant or reliable. We have been using SBS 2k in a mixed environment with several Entourage X (10.1.6) clients and some windows boxes. Since the upgrade to SBS 2k3 Mac users are reporting that they can't no longer access their calendar free/busy informations and contacs in Entourage X. Email works fine. Problem 1 (calendar and contacts): The clients do not get an error message when trying to access their calendar/contacts. But I found HTTP 401 errors our web servers log, each time a user starts a synchronisationtries (calendar or contacts are included in sync): 2005-06-17 07:47:18 192.168.1.10 PROPFIND /exchange/lars/ 443 - 192.168.1.15 Entourage/10.0+(Mac_PowerPC;+DigExt;+TmstmpExt) - 401 2148074254 276 540 I checked our setup against a posting from Crina Li from MSFT: > 15. We do not use public folders. Problem 2 (LDAP): Even our users are currently not using LDAP, I configured it. (But I left out the search base field, because I have no clue what to enter here.) > 11. In the LDAP server field, enter the IP address of the server. > 12. Click the "Click here for advanced options" button. > 13. Enable the "This server requires me to log on" checkbox. > 14. Using LDAP after this configuration results in Error -3280 connection error on the client. Our macs are in the SBS environment, but since we use a .local domain (thanks MS for providing this default for SBS 2k installations), they are not managed by the domain. Users have to change their passwords twice. But other things like OWA over SSL (Browser), OMA, SMB etc. are working fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It would be nice to have it so they could get an email for say, ³Elton John, 2005² and have the emails go to a folder named the same and the attachments go to a like folder on the desktop to avoid email getting too large and corrupting... Does this make sense to you? Do you feel a script or rule is better serving here?     - Replying to emails This may sound like a dumb question, when I reply to emails using Entourage, it always shows my response BELOW the original email. Every other email application I've ever used shows my response ABOVE the original email. Is there a way I can tweak the settings to change this?     - Rules problem I am running spamsieve which was working just great but just recently any mail to one of my email addresses which has a rule to sort it into a specific folder appears in the folder without being spamseived. So I tried deleting the spamsieve rules and then reapplying new ones no luck. Then I deleted the rule that was moving the accounts mail to a specific folder and here's the weird part entourage is still moving mail with that address to the folder even though no rule now exists! I don't think it is spamsieve as it is working just fine on the other email accounts that come in to entourage just as the rules that move them to specific folders are still working.     - Entourage 2004 HTML rendering slowdown I have noticed that if I keep Entourage open for and extended period of time (8+ hours) that very often when I attempt to read an html file the processor use will spike and it will take an inordinately long time to display the message, sometimes I become impatient (after say 1 minute) and force quit Entourage. When I restart Entourage and navigate to the same email it displays reasonably quickly. Have others noticed this problem? I am running Tiger 10.4.1 on a 1.5GHz Powerbook with 1.5GB of RAM.     - Entourage Frustration Ok, So I finally made the switch to Mac and have had nothing but frustration when it comes to importing my Outlook contacts into Entourage. I have a lot of notes and, I'm guessing, they are the problem with the mess of an import.     - Move from iCal to Entourage I've decided to give Entourage a try after having used iCal, Address Book, and Apple Mail for years. I successfully set up my email (even my exchange account), and found a way to move my locally saved email from Tiger Mail to Entourage (via renaming), but I can't figure out how to move my calendars from iCal to Entourage. I tried exporting each calendar individually in iCal, then dragging them into the Entourage calendar view, and they imported, but only a single (oldest) event each, not the whole calendar.     - Weird goings in in Entourage Okay... I have a user who did something to her Exchange settings in Entourage that I can't figure out for the life of me. When she gets a new e-mail on her Exchange account, it delivers to the Exchange inbox, then reroutes to the local inbox, and sends a copy to her Deleted Items folder under Exchange.     - rebuild problem So, I've been having the same deleting problem that a lot of folks have: you try to delete something from an IMAP account, it shows up in the deleted folder, but won't leave the inbox. I've tried holding down the option key while pressing delete and nothing. So I tried rebuilding entourage, which seems to be a common suggestion. After much searching...and a couple of posts in this group..I've found a reasonable explanation from Microsoft as to why the following error message appears: Mail could not be received at this time.     - Delete and junk buttons Does anyone know if there is a way to change the menu buttons on Entourage. The delete and junk buttons are right next to each other, both have a circle, both are red and when in a hurry it's very easy to click the junk button instead of the delete button. I know you can retrieve email from junk if you accidently junk it. It's a small thing, but if the buttons were separated it would be better. Has anyone else run into this? To locate duplicates, my script, "Categorize Duplicate Contacts", will
add a category, "Duplicate", to all duplicate contacts. Filtering on
category, then sorting, will help you view the duplicate pairs. Then,
the script "Merge Contacts" (which I wrote and Eric Hildum enhanced)
will let you select a pair and merge any non-duplicate information.
