 - Entourage Can anyone let me in on how to properly set up this piece of sh** program. I want my Outlook for OSX. I can receive email, but not send any with an attachment. My Outlook for Mac running is OS9 works great. Entourage locks up my password so I need to go to IT and have it unlocked. Is there another email program that works with Windows Exchange Server 2000 that does not download everying to my Mac. Thanks for reading my airing.  - Custom mail view updating? I use a custom view to view emails I've received within the last five days. The view excludes certain folders, such as Sent Mail, Junk, Deleted Messages, etc. All of my messages come in to my IMAP INBOX, and are then moved into other IMAP mailboxes using simple rules. For some reason I can't figure out, the Custom View window gets updated right away when new messages come in and get moved to certain mailboxes, yet does not get updated when messages come in and is moved to certain other mailboxes. Until, that is, I go to the main mail viewing window and click a mailbox to refresh the message list. Then the custom view window gets updated. Obviously the first behavior is more desirable. Would some knowledgeable MVP please explain what governs custom view updating for IMAP mail?  - All gone After starting EN 10.1.1 under Panther for the 2nd time in two weeks all my data is gone. When I check my Microsoft User Data, all my old data is lost and it appears as if I have just installed EN for the first time. Wherever I look on my harddisk, I am not able to find the old data. How can this happen? I must say though that I have 2 Microsoft User Data folders on my harddisk but in different locations. The "old" folder still contains the "old" data from the time before the trouble with EN started, it is my backup. The recent one is located in my DOCUMENTS (User/Documents/...) folder.  - Palm sync - need the backup from Entourage... Hi all, so, I have Entourage X 10.1.4 and I've set it up so that I can sync with my Tungsten C. It works great. While i was away, my wife decided that she wanted to sync with my computer too and she dropped her device in the cradle and hit the hotsync button. She can't remember what other screens she agreed to, but when I went to sync again, all i have is HER data. Looking in the Palm/Users/cmbrandt/Entourage Data directory, i see that there is a file called Entourage Storage which is ~400K and was last modified today when I hotsynced. In my wifes Entourage Data folder, she has a file which is ~20K and was last modified yesterday when she synced. Is there any way to get my old data back?  - password lockout I'm running a G4 with Panther OS and Entourage. I also logon to a Win 2000 machine with Outlook. Our server runs Exchange 2000. Frequestly my password will lock on the server. This happens even after successfully running Entourage for hours. I can't seem to replicate the problem, it seems to be random. IT is tired of unlocking my password.  - multiple exchange server connections I have a client who has two Mac users that access Exchange through Entourage. In addition, they both have PC's on their desktop that they also use for exchange server access. Everything works fine for one user.... he can log in simultaneously on his Mac and PC but if this user is logged in on his Mac the other user gets and incorrect username/password error when he tries to log in. If he logs in first then they both can connect fine from all four computers. Regardless of the login success on the Mac's they can always login on their PC's. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?  - lost address book I was synching my Palm with Entourage and the address book on both the Palm and Entourage is gone I thought I backed it up properly, but I have found I did not.  - Updating Host Files? Our web-based Exchange server was switched to Exchange 2003, requiring the users to update their local Host files. I know how to do this for PCs, but am lost with how to do it on the Macs. We have 2 remote users using Entourage to sync with the mail server and they are not anymore knowledgeable than I am when it comes to Macs - a sorry state, I know.  - Error -2171 Okay I have searched everywhere for the translation of this error code, and can't find anything. I am hoping someone has seen this and knows what it means: The server returned the following error Unable to add message to IMAP mailbox. The corresponding local folder will be used instead. Error -2171 Running Entourage X (with the exchange update) with Exchange Server 2003. We get this error sporadically. when you hit the send the message goes into the local outbox, instead of the server outbox. The message is usually still sent.  - Last Name First Name for Address Book in Entourage I know that this has been discussed...but I am having some trouble. I would like my contacts to show up as "Last Name, First Name". I have tried copying the script that Paul wrote, to automatically convert this into the nickname field, but I keep getting errors from script editor that says it cannot compile the info. What am I doing wrong? Also, can you continue to run this script so that if you say click on someone's email address from a message and say add to address book...and you do this several times a day.  - Save as text script I'm trying to find an AppleScript which saves multiple mail messages into one text file. I don't need or want the messages formatted or changed in any way. All I could find is Allen Watson's script, "Entourage Many to Word" but it does a bit too much (formatting, opening in Word). "Save as" only works with one message at a time.  - Calendar events showing up as Email entries I've posted my issue before, still no luck . . . My calendar will not sync with the Exchange 2003 server, and my calendars and contacts show up in my email box. I've tried every combination thinkable in the Free/Busy server box in the account settings. I have 99% verified that WebDAV is active on my Exchange server. I do have access to OWA via the web.  - Error 5451??? Keep getting this (5451) and other error messages sending to some e-mail addresses. This error message says "mail could not be sent using this account "my name". Then under explanation it says, "Mail error. The server is busy try again later". I've also gotten other various error messages sending to different e-mail addresses. Anyone have any ideas?  - Can't send group e-mail from Entourage I have conpiled a group of 36 addresses (complete with group name) and have tried to send a small HTML text message. The group name clicks nicely into the addressee box, but the message just sits in the Outbox and won't move out. My provider, Comcast, offers Outlook Express support but claims no knowledge of Entourage. I'm using Entourage on an iMac with OSX 3. I had this problem with OSX 2.8.1 also. Any suggestions? PHASE ONE Create a group (in the address book) with all your friends/family email addresses in it.  - Re Calendar events I would very much like to have the capability to create a template event with certain unchanging info that can be duplicated and then altered (add/delete only certain info). Or be able to create a series but edit only a single event. Is there a way to do either? When you try to edit a series it appears to enable you to edit a single event but only allow a change to date and time.  - error -3170 I have been using Entourage as part of Office X (2001 version), with the new Panther OS X.3.2 on my new iMac. When I was using a dial up connection to my ISP (Earthlink), I had no problem sending and receiving email. Since switching over to DSL connection, I have been unable to send or receive through Entourage. I have tried all the obvious fixes: deleting and recreating my account in Entourage, resetting and tripple checking my Network settings in sys prefs on the iMac, but to no avail. The message I get every time is "specified server could not be found, error -3170. I have been able to receive and send mail through iMail application, and the settings are all the same. One possible coincidence: I recently downloaded a system protection upgrade from mac online for my OS. Could there be a hitch with some new firewall modification? If so, what fixes are there?  - Font selection In the Entourage preferences it is possible to select the font size but above 10 the selection is limited to even numbers only i.e. 10, 12,14,18 etc but it's not possible to select odd numbers i.e. 11,13,15 etc Does anyone know how the odd numbers could be included in the selection list as is possible in the Mac.  - ability to spell check disappeared suddenly (MAC) I had to reinstall Office on my computer here at school (I teach). I am running a Mac Blue & White G3 and Entourage version 5.0.1457.3. The spell check feature worked fine until I removed the corrupted version of Word and did the reinstall. Any ideas how to get the spell check to run again?  - Entourage doesn't launch anymore Hi, First sorry for my english. The fact is that suddenly Entourage gave me this error message: "An error occurred while launching. The "Entourage Temp" folder could not be found. It is likely that you have a file with the same name or an alias that doesn't point to a folder". I've tried deleting the prefs, the "entourage temp folder" (which is invisible), reinstalling entourage but vainly: always the same message. Any suggestions?  - Entourage Suddenly doesn't show HTML in incoming messages Can anyone help. Suddenly all newsmessages and advertisements (eg Apple Newsletter) arrive with no HTML and are unreadable. I have checked the mail settings and nothing has changed there: these are set to receive complex HTML. So where does the fault arise. Internet browsers (Safari) are all working fine, but Entourage seems to have lost ability to connect with "HTML" language. Anyone know a solution?? Many thanks Michael.  - Entourage crashing Hi, Almost daily MS Entourage crashes. The crashes occur when I'm sending = e- mail via an smtp server. While the crash does not occur on every = e-mail I=20 send, it does happen at least once a day. Specifically, after clicking = the send=20 buttong, Entourage will close the e-mail messages window, do some work,=20 and then play the "sent mail" sound. After the sound, Entourage = crashes. I=20 have pasted a "crash report" that Mac OS X gives me when the crash = occurs. =20 It's really annoying because one step in the e-mail process does not = ever get =20 complete: after the e-mail is sent, it is placed in my local "sent = items" folder,=20 but it is not copied to my IMAP account's Sent Items folder. When = Entourage=20 sends an e-mail without crashing, it copies the message to the IMAP sent = items folder and leaves no copy in my local Sent Items folder. It is = very=20 annoying. Please investigate and give an ETA on a fix. NOTE: I've been trying to send MS a support request via their website = but it=20 keeps crashing when I submit -- "We could not send your incident=20 information because of a system or network error. Please try again in a = few=20 minutes." It's happend all day. Entourage works for a short while to make connections with hotmail email accounts to send and receive email. Then Entourage will hang, freeze, stall in making connections with various of the hotmail accounts. Every day I have this problem several times during the day. I have several work-arounds which sometimes, but only temporarially, fix the problem and allow me to finish email correspondences. But I must spend almost an hour a day working around this problem. After years of work-around, I need to find another solution! (I first wrote about this problem on 09/13/2002 and received no solution then. Mac OS 9.1 on Powerbook G3 Original with Virtual Memory ON. DSL line from Earthlink (ISP) via SBC connected using Mac PoET 2.0. Problem: Can't send or receive emails using Entourage, after it works earlier. Full Description of Problem: Startup of Entourage: When I startup my Mac in the morning, it starts up MacPoET and automatically connects the DSL line. Then I manually open the Entourage application and it automatically runs the Startup Schedule to send and receive to about 12 email accounts (1 earthlink account, 11 hotmail accounts). It usually accomplishes this send and receive with no problem. Sometimes, but rarely, it will send and receive to all, but one, email account (a hotmail account). It will then hang, freeze, stall on this one account. The Progress Box and Bar will sit churning forever, until I click stop. While Using Entourage: During the day, I manually run other Run Schedules to have Entourage send and receive email from 3 - 4 other hotmail accounts. (I have made sure that these later Run Schedules do not try to access very many hotmail accounts at once, because any more than 4 accounts will usually guarantee a hang.) Sometimes it works successfully and mail is received from all accounts (that have mail). (It seems to run more successfully in the middle of the nighttime, but even then can have problems.) About 40 - 50% of the time (which is a LOT), it doesn't run successfully. Email is received from some accounts, but once one account seems to hang, then all the rest of the accounts hang and don't receive forever. If I click on the Stop button, and then try to receive on only ONE individual account that previously hung, it will still hang. If I try to Send email from that account, it will hang in the Outbox and not successfully send. I think that I can sometimes still Send from other accounts. But just as often, if one email hangs in the Outbox, then all other emails from all accounts will hang in the Outbox also and not send. The accounts that didn't hang will usually still work to receive email or move to folders, but not necessarially to send if the Outbox is hung up. The rest of Entourage will still work--Address Book, Calendar, etc. So the program has not crashed. Receiving: I can NEVER go for a whole day--or even check all of my 25 email accounts even just one time through in a day--before a hang developes. Sending: 25% of the time when I try to SEND an email, it will hang in the Outbox. Moving: Once a particular email account has hung, then I can not MOVE any emails from that account's Inbox to other folders in the folder section of Entourage. Work-Around Methods of Temporary Solution: I have found no real cure for the problem or exact diagnosis of the cause. I have several work-around methods that sometimes work to unhang Entourage temporarially. 1. If I QUIT Entourage and restart Entourage, sometimes I can get past a hang and work for awhile until another hang occurs. Sometimes not. 2. If I QUIT Entourage and Disconnect MacPoET (but not cycle off the DSL Modem). Then reconnect the DSL and startup Entourage, sometimes I can get past a hang and work for awhile until another hang occurs. Sometimes not. 3. If I Shutdown Entourage and MacPoet and the Mac, then Restart, sometimes I can get past a hang and work for awhile until another hang occurs. Sometimes not. 3. If I Shutdown Entourage and MacPoet and the Mac AND the DSL modem, then turn on the modem and restart, sometimes I can get past a hang and work for awhile until another hang occurs. Sometimes not. 4. Sometimes I have to shutdown the Mac, go to lunch or dinner, and then try later. If I do this last method 4, I have always been able to get past the problem. But, if there is email stuck in the Outbox, I often have to use methods 5 - 7 to get it to send. Also, I have tried methods 5, 6, and 7 BEFORE doing any of the above methods (1-4) and they sometimes work; sometimes not. 5. If I go to the Outbox, open the mail, and then re-send it, sometimes that works by itself, but very rarely (and only after method 4 above). 6. Send another email through to the hung account using another unhung account to send from (to "jar" the stuck email loose??). Sometimes this works. 7. Go to the Outbox and open the hung email. Copy the contents and paste them into a new email and send it (after trashing the former email). Sometimes this works. Can't remember if I sent it from the same hung account or use another unhung sender account? My one earthlink email account can hang up also, but it does so rarely (but that account has little to no email traffic anyway). About 2 years ago, I used to have my email accounts (about 12 of them) at mac.com, instead of at hotmail.com. I think that I had the same problems from those accounts as well? Is it a "connection" problem???.the progress box is churning ("Messages remaining to be sent") but the email won't send??and it can stay that way for hours. (However, IE still works.) I've learned to try to do all the email work I can before using Internet Explorer (IE) to go onto the Internet because it seems like once I go onto the Internet I will have an email hang soon after I return back to Entourage. I suspect that the problem is a combination of asking Entourage to download from multiple accounts simultaneously....and also having the internet or Hotmail (or other ISP) experiencing a lot of traffic at peak hours.....and that Entourage gets stuck somewhere in the process of making the connection and sending the necessary passwords. This problem is the PLAQUE of my existence. It wastes precious time everyday, day after day. Entourage 2001 has never worked well for me because of this!  - Entourage CPU usage near 100% perpetually after free/busy server is contacted I need some help with Entourage 10.1.4 and Exchange 2k Standard SP3. On one user (Identity), and one user only, and on multiple Macs (iMac G4 1GHZ 10.28, G4 Tower 10.28, and G4 Tower 10.32) the CPU usage on the Mac goes up to 100% hanging the machine so badly it's not usable. The Mac has been fine for months connected to the Exchange box. No changes to our Exchange server or the Mac have occured within the past several months with respect to updates/patches/etc. As Free/Busy uses OWA for its scheduling information, we took a look at the IIS logs on our Exchange box. Sure enough, the Mac downloads the appointments and stores them. After that, we get perpetual 401s with no sub-code and 416s. (see below). At this point is when Entourage hangs the workstation. When one tries to quit the app, a dialog box indicates something to the effect of "network operations are still running-are you sure etc.?"  - Slow Entourage and network home folders We're running Entourage in a network home folder environment. Entourage runs very slowly compared to any of the rest of our applications. It's constantly crashing and giving the spinning wheel of death and unexpected quits. I've had to move a bunch of people to Mail but it doesn't have all of Entourage's features. Is anyone running in a similar setup to the following example and not seeing problem?  - Outlook Personal Folders Just shifted from old OS 9 machine with Outlook 2001, and an exchange server to a new OSX computer and NO exchange server. I have LOTS (several Gig) of emails in the old personal folders that I can't seem to open/import/convert/... with Entourage X (10.1.4). I can't dump them to an exchange server since I don't have one. Also tried installing Outlook 2001 (in Classic mode) to be able to just view offline, but that won't work because I have to enter the server info during setup, even just to be able to work offline.  - Error: 10001 in Entourage X Here's the scoop. I have successfully configured Entourage to connect to our Exchange 2000 Server. I have all functionality in every area except for two minor problems, Both are rather puzzling. First, when I search for a name on the GAL, it comes up with the following error message: LDAP Server Error, "The directory service was unable to perform the search" Error: 10001". Here's the really weird thing: It successfully searches the criteria entered and returns the names in the GAL, but still gives the error message. Second, I can successfully set up a meeting, however when a PC user sees the meeting request it shows up as a email, not a meeting request. They can reply, but it is treated as an email. The only thing that gives any indication here is that the meeting request shows up with an attachment labeled meeting.ics. I wonder if this is somehow related to the behavior I'm seeing with GAL, as in Entourage is not reading the LDAP server correctly. It is doing it to some degree but it seems to be missing something. When looking for free/busy time Entourage successfully sees who is free/busy. Anyone who hae any thoughts on this are most welcome to chime in. Are you using SBC Yahoo! DSL?

If so, you may be able to log into your email at
<http://mail.yahoo.com/>.

Note that your Entourage Rules and Filters won't act on these messages.
