Reply To header

Entourage 2004

I can see how to create a fixed Reply To header for every email going
through a certain account but what I need to do is be able to choose
between different options on a per email basis.

At school, I cannot use the school SMTP for emails I am sending from my
own personal email account so I need to send these from the school
address with my own email address as the Reply To address.

However, if I am sending an email on school business, then I do not
need a separate Reply To address.

So, can I choose to have a Reply To header on a per email basis?

So create two "accounts" that are identical except for whether or not
you're using the alternative Reply To header (and one of them should not
be automatically checked when you check for new mail). Now, while
composing an outgoing message, you can use the popup in the outgoing
message to switch between them as desired. m.

Dear Matt

Yes, I see what you are saying.

As a recent and reluctant switcher from Apple Mail, I preferred the
simplicity of Reply To field that I could type into.

The 'problem' account is the schools Exchange network server. They have
an older version of Exchange so I can only access it as a POP server
but I do not know how it will respond to me having 2 setups referencing
the same account.

We shall see!

I know what you mean. It's nice being able to mess with the headers
directly. But I don't think Entourage allows this. On the other hand, I
use this approach - two nearly identical "accounts", differing in just
one respect that I have reason to switch occasionally - and I don't find
it clunky.

I don't know anything about Exchange, but this is why I said you should
be careful not to let both accounts check for mail automatically. If you
never check mail with account B, but only use it for sending, then I
would think the Exchange server would never know about it (though I am
just guessing).

Entourage allows you to set up one of the accounts with just outgoing
server details, and no incoming server. Although if one of these
accounts is a POP account elsewhere you can enter in those POP account
details for the incoming server and retrieve the messages from that
account.
