I am currently on the road and can receive messages both through
Airport and through an Ethernet port, but I can't send messages. I've
tried requiring Authentication and Not Requiring Authentication. Any
other suggestions? My SMTP Server is smtp.comcast.net and I'm currently
in a Cox service area.

Some Internet service providers disable port 25 to prevent relaying.
Nasty but true. Could cause the kind of problem you're seeing. m.

You probably need to use the Cox SMTP server. Some ISPs only allow users to
send through the ISP's SMTP server in order to more easily track down
spammers on the network.

Otherwise, you can check with Comcast to see if there is a special server
name or authentication settings you need. If that doesn't work, the above
is probably true.

I have Mac OS X Panther, Entourage 2004, and I'm connected through an
Ethernet port, to a broadband router, through cable Optimum Online. I
can receive emails from my .Mac accounts, but not from my Yahoo account
and cannot send emails through either. I can manually log-in to both
accounts, and send mail, through Internet Explorer for Mac, Safari, and
Netscape. I have let the system automatically configure the settings,
and manually troubleshot and adjusted the settings as per Microsoft's
Help directions.
The server is: smtp.mail.mac.com and different account is:
smtp.mail.yahoo.com. I have checked the box to use the same settings as
the incoming mail.
I have the same problem with the Mac OS X mail application.
Any suggestions?

If you have an @earthlink.net e-mail address, try using
smtpauth.earthlink.net as the outgoing mail/SMTP server in your EarthLink
account settings. Click the "Advanced Sending Options" button, and check
the option for "SMTP server requires authentication: Use same settings as
receiving mail server".

If that doesn't work, contact Comcast and ask what SMTP server you can use
as an EarthLink customer. Then set that up in your account settings.

Note that for US @yahoo.com addresses, you need to subscribe to Yahoo! Mail
Plus to get POP access to your e-mail.

Try using the SMTP server provided to you by Optimum Online for sending
mail. Note that you will probably have to disable authentication or enable
it with the login credentials for your Optimum Online account for this to
work.
