Migrate Entourage 2001 to Outlook 2003 (PC)

Mailbox problems. Please help.
I have 16 mail accounts that I manage in Entourage. Only 3 of them get much
use though, 2 IMAP accounts and one POP. I have about 11,000 received
messages between them. After about 5 years of using Entourage, something
crazy happened today.
Entourage started crashing after being launched for about 10 minutes. After
one of the crashes, my mail was all jumbled. Rules were not all attached to
their proper boxes. Mail was in the wrong boxes. Junk mail was in normal
inboxes. Some mail ended up in deleted items folders. Most disconcerting,
the Inbox for the POP account, which has about 10,000 emails in it, is
totally empty. I have a saved view that looks at all of my inboxes, and it
still sees the mail that disappeared from the POP inbox, but I can't find
the messages in any 'real' directories.
Any thoughts? This is quite a tragedy for me.

All of a sudden, in trying to retrieve my Hotmail, I get
An unknown error (-50) occurred.
Explanation: could not retrieve mail.
This error code is not listed, as far as I can tell, on the MVPS Entourage
help pages online. Note that I recently rebuilt my database, and also that
I just trashed my ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft folder, but it did not
help.
Where could I find out what MBU means by that particular code, and how to
solve this problem?

Entourage changes fonts
I've upgraded my G5 to Tiger; since about that time, Entourage (Office
X) has decided that all my email replies should use Geneva smaller as
the font, though my preferences are still set for New York medium. None
of the other Office apps use Geneva; I've gone so far as to disable
Geneva (which I never intentionally use anyway) in Font Book, but it
still is the default the software wants to use in replies. Has anyone
else seen this, or does anyone have a solution? Tag: Outlook Tag: 53709
Can you make choose which address to use in a mail merge? (default, home, work, etc.)
I recently upgraded to the new Mac Mini with OS X. I exported my old
address book from Dynodex to Entourage. I assigned all of the address as
"Home address" during the import, which is correct.
The problem that I now have is that for all of the new contacts Entourage
has
assigned the "work address", which is blank, as the default address. When I
try to do a mail merge, no addresses come up because it won't let me select
"home address" instead of "default address."
Is there a work around for this problem. I've been fighting it all morning
and I'm very frustrated.
Thanks,

Entourage crashing in HTML display mode after Tiger Update
Any suggestions from the group re what to try to get HTML display
functionality in Entourage after Tiger upgrade? When in HTML display
mode and clicking on any HTML email, I reproducibly crash Entourage and
get MS error reporter (from which I must force quit.) Unchecking HTML
display box and going to text display mode fixes the problem but makes
it more difficult to quickly read HTML emails.
I have spent alot of time on this so far and have done the following:
Set Spotlight preferences to exclude Entourage identity folders
Upgraded to latest Tiger release
Upgraded to latest version of Java
Backed up and rebuilt Entourage database; created new identity
Reinstalled Entourage
Deleted Shutterfly browser plugin
Not sure what else to try from here but am open to suggestions . . .
I connect to a pop3 server as well as an exchange server (two different
email accounts). One other thing I've noticed is that I don't get mail
quickly from the exchange server account following the upgrade to
Tiger. If anyone has suggestions regarding how to get exchange server
and Entourage to update with new email more quickly, I'd be grateful. Tag: Outlook Tag: 53692
:: Accessing .Mac mail from within a Corporate Structure ::

Can I silence the error reporting?
I'm a long time Entourage user and have up 'till now abided its quirk
as it offers more than any other mail client available.
The quirk is incessant error reporting on checking mail. I'm sure other
clients silently soldier on, muffling the odd server error here and
there. I mean the annoying little Error Log dialog and it's cousin the
error icon that appears bottom right.
I have multiple IMAP acconts on different servers. In fact my moving to
a new host recently hasn't stopped the problem which I thought it
might. I'm convinced it's not the server. It's either Entourage's
failed communication with the server or usual server behaviour that
Entourage should cope with but chooses to report. I also have different
error messages for the one Hotmail account I look at using it.
I get messages like "Lost mailbox lock" and "The server reported an
error". I get them quite often, probably on average about ten or so
messages over a three hour period. I have a repeating schedule looking
at the IMAP boxes every 5 mins and Hotmail every hour.
Apart from diagnostic advice I was wondering if there was any way of
silencing the errors. Most of them are of little significance. Is there
a neat little script that will tell Entourage to just cope?
A little tech info: I'm running Entourage 2004 on OS X 10.3.9 on my
trusty and stable-as-a-rock G4 533 tower with 1Gb RAM. I'm connected
via DSL. My host is decent and no other mail app, while they're
generally rubbish, reports these errors. Entourage itself was very
recently reinstalled from scratch. Entourage X was just as bad at this.
Thanks so much in advance. Any advice or sympathy for the nagged will
be much appreciated.

EAS (Enterprise Archive System) for Exchange
I am the CIO for a firm that uses an archiving product called EAS
(Enterprise Archive System) which seamlessly archives mail content and
attachments within the Exchange 2003 environment. EAS archives the
content of messages while leaving a header stub in the mailbox. With
Outlook for Windows and Webmail, a plugin, automatically retrieves the
content of a message from the EAS server whenever an archived message
is opened or viewed.
When EAS is installed, every mail client I have tried, except for
Entourage 2004 continues to work with Exchange even if they have no
explicit EAS support. If an inbox has 100 messages and 80 messages are
archived, all mail clients other than Entourage show all 100 messages.
When an archived message is opened, mail clients that do not have EAS
support only show the message header.
Entourage fails to even retrieve current messages when EAS is
installed. It appears to count the number of messages in any folder
improperly once EAS is installed and therefore does not retrieve or
display expected information.
My firm primarily uses Windows, but we have many home Macintosh users
that are affected by this issue. My firm is an Enterprise Account and
a Premier Service Account. The answer I received last year was that
EAS is not supported on the Mac platform. Is MS ready to change that
decision?
Thanks

Re Entourage X Service Release 1 mail reception
I use:

be received at this time. The server for the a/c "....." returned the error

New/Edited Calendar Events disappear from Treo after sync
I'm having a strange problem with Entourage 2004 calendar events
snyching to my Treo 600.
If I create a new event on the Treo or modify an exisiting event, the
next time I sync with Entourage, that event is removed from the Treo.
It still appears in Entourage, but will not show up on the Treo unless
I edit it in Entourage first.
I've tried the "Enable sync for these new devices" option in the
Entourage conduit, but it didn't effect this problem.
Any pointers or help would be appreciated.

Entourage 2004(1.1.1) won't run on Tiger
Most users seem to have no Tiger problems. Good that my problem is
unusual, as Entourage hangs prevents using Tiger:
1 - As soon as I do anything after launch in Entourage it
hangs/beachball - I have to force quit both Entourage and the Microsoft
Error Reporter.
2 - Verify database reports corruption - rebuild database, go to
step#1, repeat
Prep for Tiger install included repair permissions, and diskwarrior
clean run. Tiger installed by Archive/Install.
I have a duplicate volume running OS 10.3.9. When I boot from OS
10.3.9, connect Entourage to the exact same Office 2004 Identity - no
problems.
Any suggestions much appreciated!

Outlook to Entourage to Outlook
Hi,
Really sorry if this is something thats been asked a thousand times
already but hopefully this is a different slant on it...
I need to get rather a lot of data out of a stand alone (that is not
connected to an Exchange Server) PC running Outlook into a Mac running
Entourage 2004.
I have been using Outlook2Mac with mixed results. The Contacts and
Emails are fine but the Calendar entries are a mess. I have over 9000 I
need to import and it the way of importing them in to Entourage it
seems is to open each one individually! If I was importing the data
into Address Book it would do it in one simple file...
Any ideas...?
Also, I may need a contingency to be able to get all of the data back
out of the Entourage on the Mac and back onto the Outlook on the PC,
anyone any ideas on transferring the other way...?
Finally, anybody got experience with the PST import tool that Microsoft
has made available...? Does it only work with Outlook 2001 on the Mac
or will it work with the PC Outlook too? Could I get the data out of
Outlook on the PC into 2001 on the MAc and then PST import from there
or will I experience strange things and problems...?
Sorry for all the questions but hopefully someone will have the
solution...!
Thanks in advance,
Steve. Tag: Outlook Tag: 53655

Forcing folder updates in an Exchange account

I'm using Entourage to talk to my Exchange 2003 server and all is well, just
not as fast as I'd like. With Outlook when new mail comes in, it's in my

How do I force folders to update so that I can avoid this delay?

Unsightly line breaks in email
Almost always when I send someone a mail message and I get a reply that
includes the original message, I can see that where the lines break for the
person receiving the message is a LOT different than how I composed the
message.
To check this out, I just sent myself a message. When I received it and
opened it there were all sorts of line breaks that did not coincide with how
the message looked when I composed it.
Why doesn't the text just wrap at the RECEIVING end the way it does when one
is composing the message?
And if this is not possible, why isn't there some sort of preference where I
could perhaps limit the line length to something like 60 chars, to minimize
the possibility of this kind of problem for whoever receives my
message??????

User Data File Old After Directory Structure Mess
In preparation for upgrading to Mac Tiger yesterday I experienced a
directory structure implosion :-( Several of my apps, including my
Office X suite had to be reinstalled.
Before doing this, I located my Microsoft User Data file for Entourage
and saved it out to another location. But the "last opened" and
"modified" dates on that file both showed August of 2004 even though I
have used Entourage daily since then.
When I finally opened Entourage after reinstalling, all my personal
folders were gone, no rules, no signatures, etc. For some reason it
seems to have re-created the user data file to be 9 months ago instead
of when it was actually last used.
My question: Is that data file ANYWHERE else in the OS X structure,
buried deep in the UNIX underpinnings? Anyway to get back to the newer
version of the file using the Terminal or anything?
The info in my personal folders should have been backed up, of course,
but wasn't. It's not completely irreplaceable, but it represented
several months of very good info from two subscription lists. Sure
would be nice to get it back.
Help anyone?

How to edit date on a saved message? It thinks it's from 1/27/40
I saved an email message I received (Entourage v.X) to my "Saved Messages"
folder but for some reason it got saved with the date of "1/27/40". Now it
always stays at the top of the list (which I have sorted by saved date).
Needless to say, unless I change it, it will stay there for the next 4
decades, and it's annoying me. Is there any way to change the date on a

Entourage 2004 and Exchange Server on Small Business Server
Can someone help me please?
I am running Entourage 2004 connected to Exchange Server on a Microsoft
Small Business Server.
I can receive email and attachments without a problem.
I can synchronise all my Exchange mail folders, contacts, calendar with
the exception of my Outbox and Sent Items folder which do not appear in
the folder list.
If a create a new mail, it is placed into the Outbox which exists under
Folders on My Computer. If I try a Send/Receive, I get an error message
saying Entourage isn't properly configured to send mail.
The bizarre thing is that if I reply to any email I receive through the
Exchange Server account, the mail gets sent. It's just new mail that
won't go.
I have checked and rechecked all the settings for the Exchange Server
account and can't see anything wrong. Also if I use Outlook Web Access
on the Powerbook or on a Windows PC I can receive and send mail no
problem.
If OWA is working what am I missing on the Entourage set up that it
won't allow me to send mail I create?

BIG trouble with Entourage 2004 and Mac OS X Tiger : any kind of
Entourage is now for me useless. It is impossible to send any kind of
attachement with an email. The attachment file gets corrupted. Tried with
pdf, zip, ... same result.
This is a MAJOR issue which makes me switch to Mail 2.0 which does not have
this problem (and is pretty faster than Entourage by the way, and very cool
with Spotlight search indexation, which Entourage does not provide).
Any return from Microsoft on this subject ? Didn't see anything around.
How do you report such an issue to Microsoft ?
I am using FileVault, maybe is it the culprit ??

Import mail from Entourage 10.1.1 to Entourage 11
How can I find the correct folder in order to import the mail from my old
computer to my new one? I tried copying over the "Main Identity" folder but
had no luck.
I use Outlook on PC and it has a great export tool. Is there something
similar on Entourage 10 that I am overlooking? All I could find was "export
contacts".
Thanks,
Stephanie

Address actions
When I click 'copy name address to clipboard' it doesn't save the
business name which seems very odd. Is there a way of making it do this?
Thanks

Searching Entourage
Is there any way to search Entourage in a particular folder, and search
everything? I know you can either specify the "message" or "title,
subject and names" but why can't you do both? Or am I missing
something?
Please help. Tag: Outlook Tag: 53557
Reply to address
In my win edition of Outlook there is an option to have a reply from a sent
email go to a different address than that which it was sent from. I can't
seem to find it in Entourage. Is it there somewhere? Tag: Outlook Tag: 53555
Spotlight and Entourage?
Does anyone know if/when Spotlight will be able to search Entourage
mail as it does Mac Mail? Not very happy with Entourage search advanced
function. It misses messages that I know are there.

Entourage Palm syncing no longer working
After upgrading to Tiger on a new dual 2.0 G5, I had no problems
syncing Entourage to my Palm Tungsten. It worked for two weeks without
a hitch. Suddenly, this weekend, without changing anything on my
system, the Palm sync process began generating an endless beach ball in
the Entourage conduit. This begins shortly after the Entourage conduit
loads to the date book (the address book seems to sync fine). First the
Microsoft Error Reporting app opens, then the beach ball begins.
Eventually the Palm reports an inability to communicate with the
desktop.
The Conduit Manager is inaccessible during this time. If I cancel on
the Palm it tries for about 10 minutes to cancel, but fails. My only
option each time is to force quit.
I've upgraded Office with the 1.11 upgrade issued in March. I've also
tried deleting the conduit prefs and resetting them, in case it was a
corrupted file. I've also rebuilt the data file. Nothing works.
Any ideas what I can try next? Tag: Outlook Tag: 53553
How can I Synchronize with an Ipaq? (I tried PocketMac ):-(
Prior to trying my buying my first Mac, I asked if I would be able to
sync with my Ipac PocketPC PDA and I was told, "No Problem". I then
had to fight to get the name Missing Sync as a product that could work
with Office 2004 on Mac. Then I come to find out that it only has the
ability to work with Apple products (Mail and iCal) which clearly did
not work for me as an Entourage user. I then called the Apple store
and was told about another product called PocketMac. I bought it on
2/13/05 and as of today (5/16/05), it still isn't working. Among my
many many problems was the deleting of my address database in Entourage
(which included over 800 contacts, many of which were those companies I
was speaking with as I was looking for a new job). Support was
terrible and today, we decided to give up and after many months of
absolute terror, we are giving up and they will be crediting my Visa
card as a result.
Does anyone have any idea if there is a solution out there (by
Microsoft for example) that will sync my Ipaq PDA with Entourage 2004?
I'm really hoping to do this instead of having to buy a Palm (which I
don't like).
Thanks,

"Reset synchronization" - which way does it go? (Entourage vs.
I'm running Entourage v.X on my Mac and using it to connect to an Exchange
server at work. My Addressbook seems to differ somewhat from my Contacts (as
seen through Outlook Web Access to the server), as does my Calendar. I am
told I need to press "Reset synchronization" on the Exchange account
Advanced settings tab. What I need to know is: which way will this
synchronization go? The data on my Entourage app is correct, and the data in
the Exchange server is old and needs to be changed. I would hate to have it
change my calendar in Entourage to match the wrong data in the Exchange
server. Is Reset Synchronization safe from that perspective? How does it
work?

Entourage Notes Transposed!
Using Entourage 11.1 on Tiger (and syncing to Treo 650) I just noticed
that at some point a lot of my contacts took on data under the "notes"
tab from different contacts. For example, if I have in the notes for a
contact "Met 1/1/03," then that same text has arbitrarily applied
itself to a half-dozen other contacts (in place of their notes). I do
not know if this is a database corruption problem, a synching problem,
or something else, but it is very aggrevating. Ideas?? Tag: Outlook Tag: 53542
Sending mail from Entourage via Novell Network.
I can receive mail from in-house senders and outside senders just fine.
I can send mail to recipients inside the building. I CANNOT send mail
to anyone outside the building. I am using OSX.3.9 and Entourage
10.1.4.
I get the following error message:
error 5550
server did not recognize the recipients or the server refuses to allow
you to send mail.
5.7.1 unable to relay...
Any ideas? I really need to solve this mess. Any input would be greatly
appreciated. Tag: Outlook Tag: 53541
Tasks in Entourage
When I use Outlook for Windows I can drag and drop an E-mail into tasks
and it will automatically extract the information from the e-mail for
me, In Entourage, this does not happen. Entourage does not pull
information from the E-mail automatically. Do I have something set up
incorrectly or is this by design?

Entourage beachballing after Tiger upgrade
I've recently upgraded to Tiger and have also recently installed
StickyBrain. Shortly after doing so, I've started to have Entourage
problems . . . program crashes and beachballs when I click on an email.
I've tried the following (multiple times) without success:
1. Configured Spotlight so as not to search in the Microsoft User Data
Folder
2. Rebuilt Entourage database and verified integrity
3. Reinstalled Entourage
If anyone has any further suggestions or can point me to a fix, I'd be
grateful. Tag: Outlook Tag: 53538
Long Standing Delegate Access Issues...
We've been having long standing delegate access issues as far as our
exchange 2003 cluster and Entourage 2004 goes. Since SSL for the WebDAV
service is required to communicate with the Exchange cluster here on campus
this makes the delegate user account show up as "Not Connected" in the
account window. If you uncheck the WebDAV SSL box then the delegate shows up
as connected in the window, but you of course can not communicate properly
with the exchange server. If anyone in the MacBU group is listening/reading
is there a solution to this? We are running into huge issues with this in
the Film School here on campus and need a way to resolve it without
compromising the security on the Exchange 2003 cluster. Will this
communication issue be resolved in the next update for Entourage? If so, how
does someone go about becoming a test user for the updates? Please help.

phantom emails
For a while now, correspondents have reported sending me emails that I
never receive, or failing to receive emails that I have sent them. The
problem has been especially bad in the last few weeks. My question
(rather basic, and not Entourage-specific, though I do use Entourage):
Is my problem likely to be one with my ISP or with my email service? In
other words, if I stick with my ISP but configure my Entourage to use
another email service (in my case, that of the university I attended,
where I still have email access), how likely is that to solve the
problem? Tag: Outlook Tag: 53535
