Newsletter header does not appear

I receive a weekly newsletter from the city telling me about events
and things of interest to small businesses. I noticed that entourage
seems to be the only mail program I have that when opening the mail
shows only the text and just some odd symbols at the top. In "MAIL" on
my mac I see the newletter as it should be, with pictures and a nice
newsletter format. This also shows up correctly on the PC we use in
our shipping department which has "Outlook Express". I am not sure
what setting may be incorrect with my Entourage program.
Any suggestions would be welcomed. This is normally the only mail
program I use on my G4 desktop and G4 Powerbook.

Hi Tom!

Do you see a link at the top of the message that will let you download
pictures? If so, this is a security feature to prevent you from
automatically notifying spammers that you've received their mail. Add
the sender's address to your Address Book and you can set Entourage to
automatically download pictures.

Delete the "com.microsoft.browserfont.cache" file in ~/Library/Caches.

"~" represents your home folder, which is usually located in /Users/<Your
User>/ and is accessible by going to Go > Home in the Finder.

Bill,
I appreciate the tip but that is not the case here. No picture
download is available. I was told my Microsoft support that entourage
does not support complex HTML, which seemed rather a weak answer as
both outlook express and mail, which are freebies packaged with system
software both open the same newletter just fine, with all graphics
showing.

FGound your suggestions last week and tried it right away, to no
avail. Support tells me that entourage does not support complex html,

In addition to trashing the com.microsoft.browserfont.cache, you can also
try trashing the tasmanbrowser.cache, which will be found in your
~/Library/Caches.

Entourage uses its own extremely limited HTML engine to display simple HTML
messages. If there were some sort of table in the HTML message,
or any other feature that would make Entourage classify it as a complex HTML
message, Entourage would make use of the Tasman rendering engine (the same
engine used in the now defunct Internet Explorer for Mac) to display the
message.

Looking back over your original message, I'm unclear if you have selected
the Security setting to not show pictures. Just wanted to point out this
preference in case that is your problem.

On-line content (including images) will not be displayed unless the sender
is in your address book (a new security measure), and only then IF you have
that preference set in the security pane of the preferences.

However, you can display the content by clicking the link in the yellow
"info bar" at the top of the message.
