Move from iCal to Entourage
I've decided to give Entourage a try after having used iCal, Address Book,
and Apple Mail for years. I successfully set up my email (even my exchange
account), and found a way to move my locally saved email from Tiger Mail to
Entourage (via renaming), but I can't figure out how to move my calendars
from iCal to Entourage. I tried exporting each calendar individually in
iCal, then dragging them into the Entourage calendar view, and they
imported, but only a single (oldest) event each, not the whole calendar. Can
someone please tell me what to do?
I suppose I'll need a way to move my Address book over too, while you're at
it.

Weird goings in in Entourage
Okay...
I have a user who did something to her Exchange settings in Entourage
that I can't figure out for the life of me. When she gets a new e-mail
on her Exchange account, it delivers to the Exchange inbox, then
reroutes to the local inbox, and sends a copy to her Deleted Items
folder under Exchange. Any idea how to fix that?
I am a support guy in a Windows environment and am only *mildly*
proficient with the Mac OS, so remember that when answering.
Thanks to anyone who can help!

rebuild problem
So, I've been having the same deleting problem that a lot of folks
have: you try to delete something from an IMAP account, it shows up in
the deleted folder, but won't leave the inbox.
I've tried holding down the option key while pressing delete and
nothing.
So I tried rebuilding entourage, which seems to be a common suggestion.
But, holding down the option key while starting the program doesn't
open the window that allows me to rebuild. Any ideas? Tag: Move from iCal to Entourage: Correction Tag: 54713
Attachments disappearing
I've never seen this before. On a particular user's computer
(Entourage 2004, OS 10.3.9), sometimes an atttachment will simply not
be sent with the message. I've ruled out any errors on the recipient's
end or via the ISP: it's definitely Entourage. It happens pretty
rarely, but consistently.

Has anyone else experienced Entourage freezing or hanging for a minute or
two since upgrading to Tiger? I¹ve listed the MUD in Spotlight¹s ³do not
search² list but sometimes I¹ll be in the middle of a sentence and Entourage
will just stop. I can get into other applications and continue working there
but Entourage will hang for an indeterminate period of time or until I
launch the ³Force Quit² option. Once I do that, Entourage wakes up and
begins working properly again (must be the ³Force Quit² intimidation factor,
I guess). I didn¹t experience these freezes until after the Tiger upgrade.
Any suggestions?
I¹m in Entourage 2004, fully up-to-date, on a TiPB.
Thanks,

Recurring authentication issue with Exchange - the reason why..
After much searching...and a couple of posts in this group..I've found
a reasonable explanation from Microsoft as to why the following error

Delete and junk buttons
Does anyone know if there is a way to change the menu buttons on
Entourage. The delete and junk buttons are right next to each other,
both have a circle, both are red and when in a hurry it's very easy to
click the junk button instead of the delete button. I know you can
retrieve email from junk if you accidently junk it. It's a small thing,

Extra, unexpected attachments
I had a very disturbing event happen when sending an email with attachments
yesterday. I was preparing email messages to two competitors, sending
proprietary information to each. I double and triple checked each message
to make sure that the correct attachments were being sent to each customer.
Later in the day I received a call from one of the people in my company who
was cc'd on the email and he told me that I had sent company A material to
company B. I double checked the company B email and there were only the 7
attachments which I had intended to send to company B attached. My coworker
then sent the email he received and sure enough there were an additional 5
attachments. 4 of which were from company A and the fifth was a company B
attachment which I thought I forgot to send.
I then went to the message in the Sent Mail box and saved the message to
disk as a .eml file and reopend it. Sure enough, there were the extra
attachments. I know that I never attached these files to this particular
message. The message did sit in my Drafts folder for some time as I was
working on it but I do not see how that would cause extra attachments to
show up. What is most disturbing is that these extra attachments did not
show up in the attachments list so there was no way for me to know what what
happening until I received notification from a recipient.
I should also mention that I started this email as an html message and then
reverted to plain text before sending.
There is a fortunate ending. We were able to contact the company B
recipient (in Japan) and tell him that the email was corrupted and had
errors and to please delete the message without opening. He did and I later
recomposed and resent the message, this time through an intermediary who
could check the attachments first.
This is such a serious flaw in Entourage that I may need to drop it for
Apple's Mail program. If the proprietary attachments had been opened by the
wrong party it could have resulted in millions of dollars on lost sales, my
termination, as well as a possible suit by company A for improper handling
of their proprietary information.

SMTP error with Entourage on Mac
Hi,
I am having an error sending emails out using Entourage. I use an SMTP
address provided by BT, and am sending out email using my own domain
name.
The account works completely fine on Outlook on a PC, but on Entourage
on a Mac it fails to send outgoing messages, saying that the SMTP
server would not accept Entourage's authentication.
I have not used a port number or the SSL setting. I can only think that
Entourage has some default setting somewhere that the SMTP server
doesn't like, or that this is an ongoing bug with Entourage.
Any ideas???

New Entourage Exchange features: What and When?
At WWDC, The Microsoft Mac BU Manager announced very vaguely, that
Exchange improvements to Entourage would be coming soon. Does anyone
have any idea when it's coming and what improvements will be? Seems
like we've been waiting a while to get any improvements to Entourage or

On another note, I heard that Microsoft writes their products in

Treo 600, Mac, entourage, and Splash ID and or Docs to go
Hi All,
I have a Treo 600 syncing with a MAC powerbook G4, using Entourage.
I recently had to do a hard reset of my Treo and reinstall Palm
Desktop, then Microsoft Update 10.6.1, then the Entourage conduits for
my handheld ( these are all located on a Microsoft support page).
Any way I am able to sync with Entourage with no problem, but the
moment I install Splash Wallet or Docs to go, the Hot Sync gets
"stuck".
When I look at the condiuts in the Hot sync Manager and doubleclick to
see the Entourage conduits, hotsync manager closes.
I have unistalled Palm Desktop and remove all trace of 3rd party
software from my mac and then I do a reinstall of Palm Desktop, etc,
but the same problem occurs like clockwork
It seems I can longer install any third party app. Prior to this hard
reset of my Treo 600 I was able to install apps.
Any suggestions? Tag: Move from iCal to Entourage: Correction Tag: 54662
Address book contact mail still treated as junk
Mail from one of my address book contacts has suddenly started being
routed to the Junk mail folder. Entourage help states that address book
contacts are never treated as junk. I've checked the address of the
incoming mail and it tallies with my address book entry, indeed the
address in the mail header has the contact icon beside it.
I've looked at my junk mail rules and can see no entry that bears any
resemblance to the subject, domain or body of the mail. I've added the
sender's domain to my safe domain's list. I've searched the group
archive and found a suggestion to rebuild the database, which I've
done, saving about 300 Mb but it's not solved the junk problem. The
next stage is to delete all my rules, which I'm reluctant to do as it
saves me time having to delete about 10 or more mails a day that escape
the regular Junk filter.
Anyone any ideas?

Entourage stalls on sending - receiving OK
Three people in our office and at home are running Entourage and the same
anomaly will frequently occur - it will simply get hung up when sending
mail. You hit send, the beachball from hell spins away but nothing goes
out. It does not time out - if you try to move the email to another folder
you get a message saying it is still sending the message, and there is no
error message that says it can't connect to the server. It just hangs up.
Eventually it will send itself - sometimes 5 minutes later, sometimes hours
later. Then it will straighten out and behave for long periods of time,
sometimes months. Then it will happen again.
This has happened on two G5 iMacs and one G4 iBook - from two different
ISP's (cable and T1) and through several updates of OSX - everyone is
currently on 10.3.9. Receiving mail is no problem - just sending.
Happily there is a mail client that they can access to send things out as a
backup, however, that is time consuming not to mention annoying.
Has any one else encountered this problem, and if so, was it resolved and
how?

I am running OS X 10.4.1, with Office 2004. Being a former military officer,
I have always had my Mac OS X time settings to 24-hour clock. However,
recently, Entourage 2004 starting showing everything in 12-hour time.
The odd thing is...almost every other aspect and application is displaying
24-hour time! Files in the Finder, for example, iCal (even though I don¹t

applications that don¹t are Office applications (for example, I inserted a
field in a Word document and it cam up as 120hour), Lotus Notes, and iTunes.
So I guess my question is (besides if anyone knows how to resolve this) what
clock does Entourage observe? In the PC world, you can set the hardware
clock, and I¹ve seen where that can cause discrepancies in some
applications. Does the Mac work the same? How do I get Entourage to go back

Here¹s what I¹ve done:
Trashed com.apple.systemprefrences.plist
Checked Date/Time preferences pane. (Checks out as 24-hour.)
Set the International formats so that they all reflect 24 hours.
Repaired permissions.

Setup of entourage
Hello,
Actually I have two questions.
The main question is: How do you set up Entourage to show all the messages
on an Exchange Server without every mail being downloaded to the Mac? I
tried to find that in the help files but could not find the appropriate
information. I have quite a lot of information in my account and to go
through all that in order to limit the size of the Entourage database is
quite a task (unless you do it in a crude way).
Until now I have used Outlook 8.2, server edition, on a Mac with OS 9, which
works pretty much straight forward. Is it possible to configure Entourage to
work in the same or a similar way?
Question 2: How can you set the default view for folders to NOT show the
messages in groups. I can imagine that a lot of people like this feature but
to my taste it wastes a lot of monitor space. I rather see the messages
themselves. Whether a message is of a specific date, from a specific person
etc, is already shown in the various columns and I don't need an extra
notification. To have the possibility to switch it on if needed is a much
better option to me. Any suggestions?

When I receive some emails with what are supposed to be embedded links

As an example this is what I receive in Entourage:

The exact same message shows up in other applications as:

Public folders and shared calendars -Entourage 2004
Hi
We were told that upgrading our MAC user to entourage 2004 would solve our
inability to connect with the public folders and shared calendars-and global
address book.
We have loaded 2004 and can send and receive thru the exchange server
(Exchange 2003)but thats it.
We have not been able to get any public folders, shared calendars or global
address book.
Anyone have any advice or tips, we would appreciate
thanks

Entourage 2004 now classifies all e-mail as junk
Hello folks,
A strange thing happened to by Entourage 2004 program yesterday. All
e-mail, including the stuff I want, are now classified as junk. I
turned off all rules and turned junk e-mail protection to off, Still,
everything goes into junk. I was not having this problem until
yesterday (6/13) afternoon. I'm running Tiger (installed about 2 weeks
ago) with all the updates, and my version of Entourage is fully updated
as well on a G4 laptop (1.5 Ghz, 1 mg ram). Any suggestions for this
weird problem?

Attachment encoding
I'm using Entourage X under OS 10.3.9 (Panther). I just tried to send an
attachment to a PC-user who is having a problem opening it.
I notice that, when I drag the attachment into Entourage, it adds '.bin' to
the end of the file name. I assume this means that Entourage is binhexing
the file for transmission. Is this the problem? Can I make Entourage zip the
file instead?
Thanks in advance,

Entourage Error 17895
I have a G5 iMac running os X.3.
I have used Entourage for email until, at 9 p.m. last Tuesday,
started getting the message:
"Error
Connection to the server failed or was dropped
Explanation
Could not retrieve mail
Account Name muffy.moore@bresnan.net
Error - 17895"
Old messages are there and can be retrieved; it will just not retriev
any new messages.
I have moved these:
com.microsoft.Entourage.prefs.plist
com.microsoft.Office.prefs.plist
Entourage Preferences
Microsoft Office ACL [English]
Office 11 First Run
to the desktop; (also com.microsoft.Entourage.plist)
checked the accounts for errors; created a new identity. Nothing make
any difference.
I would be grateful for any suggestions. Thank you

Using Address Book to select fax number/recipient
Evidently, the inability to select a fax recipient/number from within
Word or Entourage in general is not a fault of Microsoft, but rather
Apple. I just tried the same thing from within Appleworks 6, and it
doesn't work from there either! Actually, the only application that
this DOES work correctly from is TextEdit.
Not being able to perform this simple selection is a terrible
inconvenience for anyone that faxes regularly. I hope that Apple gets
on a fix soon!

Problems Deleting Calendar Events - notifying other users
In Outlook when you delete a calendar event you scheduled or one
scheduled by another user you get a message asking if you'd like to
email the other attendees that the meeting has been canceled. This
does not happen in Entourage, it just deletes the event from your
calendar and does not give you the option to notify. Is there a way to
get this option? Tag: Move from iCal to Entourage: Correction Tag: 54577
Can anyone recommend a nice way to print Entourage's Address Book?
I need a hard copy of my address book. I have about 400 people in a mailing
list that I want to print out. I would like something that can output in
some nice format (or have options/choices).
Anyone know of a good way to do this? Tag: Move from iCal to Entourage: Correction Tag: 54575
Live Sync issue?
I have a user who is using Entourage 2004 (fully patched) and exchange.
Even though Send/ Receive all is set for every 10 minutes, it seems to
be updating the calendars and contacts every 2-3 minutes. This would
not be a problem, but entourage tends to hang when doing this. He has
been forced to compose emails in Word, then copy them over.
I suspect that this has something to do with Live Sync. Is there a way
to turn this off without recreating the account? Tag: Move from iCal to Entourage: Correction Tag: 54572
Entourage Database
When you delete your messages from the "Deleted Items" folder, does the
database file actually decrease in size (MB)? My experience is that
when I delete several thousand messages and rebuild the database, I do
not see a corresponding decrease in size of the database file. Dan Tag: Move from iCal to Entourage: Correction Tag: 54568
Forget about the address book part. I guess it did that automatically. :-)
