Have you got your powerbook set up to use Postfix as the SMTP server?
(usually this means you will have either 'localhost' or 127.0.0.0 in the
server address field for the account settings).
If so, entourage will send the message to the postfix mail server in OS X,
at which point it assumes it has done it's task and files the mail in 'sent
mail'. Postfix, however, will be unable to forward the mail any further as
you are 'not connected', the mail will therefore sit in the postfix mail
queue until a connections becomes available.
