can't import previous entourage email
i am running OS 9.2 and recently had did a clean install. everything was
backed up so i have my email but i was not able to import it into my new
account. I go to File > Import and I get options to import information from
programs I don't use i.e. outlook express, qualcomm eudora, claris emailer
or a choice to import from a text file. one says 'Import messages from MBOX
format text file". i tried that and after following the folders > office
2001 identities > main identity >...when i get to main identity --where my
email doc is...it is empty. how do i get it to appear so i can choose it and
import my email? or is there another way to import email. i really need

Exchange Server Functionality on OS X with Mi8.com (where to put the host file?)
We have been using Exchange with Outlook for some time on Macs with OS
9. In order to connect to our Mi8 Exchange server in OS 9 we must
point the control panel TCP/IP at a "host" file which we drop in the
Preferences folder. This host file allows TCP/IP to resolve domain
names for their Exchange Server that only their DNS servers can
resolve. It a security feature I've been told. Apparenty Mi8 doesn't
provide tech support for Macs. Our Network Administrator is not
familiar with OS X. Does anyone know where I would put the "host"
file in OS X? I believe the solution involves Netinfo manager. If
anyone can point me in the right direction.

Free/Busy Solution
From the horse's mouth...
Five options to find your Free/Busy server:
1.. First, just try to auto-configure an account in Entourage.
2.. If that doesn't work, it is likely that the free/busy data is on your
main server, so the path would be something like "<the exchange server
name>/public/"
3.. If you are running the Win Outlook 2003 beta you can control click on
the Outlook icon in the system tray and select the "Connection Status..."
menu. Add "/public/" to the server of type "Public Folders" to get your
Free/Busy server.
4.. You can sniff the path using OWA and TCP flow by sniffing the request
that OWA sends when looking up free/busy information (search the log for
/public/)
5.. You can ask your admin...

Entourage 10.1.4 and fonts
I installed Entourage 10.1.4 only to find that when I send messages from
my existing POP accounts the fonts no longer display correctely when
received by Outlook Express for Windows (I don't know about other Windos
clients). My default font for HTML-formatted e-mail is Arial 12. When
it arrives at the recipient the font displayed is 6 point or less, which
is basically unreadable.

Entourage 10.1.4 for Exchange - some answers
Here is a message just sent to the Entourage mailing list by Gil Gordon, a
program manager at Microsoft, about working with Exchange Server in
Entourage 10.1.4. It has answers to some of the questions that have come up
here.
[Unfortunately, not a single MVP here happens to have access to an Exchange
Server 2000. We have only the most cursory knowledge about the Exchange
features. For those who don't know, MVPs are volunteers - users like
yourselves - not MS employees, who have been recognized for help provided in
the past mostly in the MS newsgroups. That does not make us experts in
Exchange, so we can't help much with many of the recent questions. Sorry.]
Here is Gil Gordon's message:
----------------------------------------
OK, here is a crack at the questions you need to ask. The answer to all
of them has to be yes to take advantage of all the new features in
Entourage:
1. Are you running Exchange?
2. Is it Exchange 2000? (Exchange 5.5 or earlier WILL NOT WORK)
3. Are you connected directly to your network (as opposed to remotely)?
If so, Entourage can probably configure your account automatically for
you. All you need is your user name, domain and password. (In the
background, entourage is asking your DNS server for information about
your setup, so if you network setup is a little weird this process may
fail and you will need to configure the account manually)
4. Is IMAP turned on (can't get mail without it). What is the server
name?
5. Is SMTP turned on (can't send mail without it). What is the server
name?
Those of you who have been using Entourage to get exchange mail for a
while probably know the answers to the previous 2 question already.
6. Is HTTPdav/OWA turned on? OWA is Outlook Web Access, which is the way
that you can get to your exchange mail from a web browser. It uses a
particular protocol called HTTPDav (also called WebDAV) to do this.
Entourage piggybacks on this functionality to do calendar and contact
sync and to get free busy information.
7. What is the Free/Busy server? This is actually the exchange public
folder server. Exchange publishes data about your calendar there so that
other people can see when you are available. This server entry will take
the form of my-server-name/public/
8. What is the LDAP server? This is also known as the Active Directory
Global Catalog (or GC). This is used to look up people's addresses.
If you happen to have access to a PC running an Outlook 2003 beta that
is already connected to your server, you can find out all these server
names by control clicking on the outlook icon in the system tray and
then selecting "connection status..."
Other things to note:
1. you DO NOT need to add your domain before your user name. There is
now a separate field for it.
2. it is possible you have SSL turned on for some or all of the servers
listed above. If you do, you need to check the SSL checkbox for them in
Entourage
3. it is possible but far less likely that your IT folk have switched
port numbers for these protocols. If they have, you will need to track
those in Entourage as well.

Agreed. Or even a list of questions to ask your Exchange admin. Do we
use IMAP? SSL for the directories? Is there web access? Do I need to
include the domain before my username with a backslash? Etc. I've
downloaded the upgrade, but don't know enough to make it work with our

Entourage Sync 10.1.4
Since it is a mess to copy website links on Microsoft, it changes it's
address often, so here is how to find the latest Entourage Sync Software
Go here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/
Then scroll down to "Search for a Download"
Select "Entourage" for the product and type the key word "handheld"
Click on the "GO" button.
New search window appears, There will be two results, go to the 2nd one, and
select the handheld link with the version 10.1.4
Download that and install it!
It will sync after that. I use a Sony NR70 so no problem!!!

Confusion over Office X Release Versions vs Entourage Versions
I just read the blurb from MS about Update 10.1.4 for Entourage-X and I am
really confused It says you must first run Office updater 10.1.2 before
running the 10.1.4 update.
I think I ran the Office 10.1.2 updater but my Entourage X is currently at
10.1.1 Service Release 1. How can you tell if the Office updater 10.1.2 has
been installed?
Did the Office updater change the application versions to 10.1.2?
I am really confused and don't even use the server but would like to be
running the most current Entourage.

entourage and exchange server
After downloading the 10.1.4. upgrade and synching with my exchange
server, the calendar events do show up in entourage, but they appear
as a list, similar to an email list. when I click on the calendar
icon, the calendar month shows up, but none of the events are there.

Un/subscribing to public folders
The regular IMAP account allowed one to subscribe or unsubscribe to public
folders. The new Exchange account type does not allow for this setting. This
is annoying if you have have a lot of public folders because Entourage keeps
updating all the Public folders, causing the beachball to appear frequently.
Anyone who knows a workaround? Via Applescript maybe? Tag: JPEG in Signature Tag: 25490
It doesn=?ISO-8859-1?B?uQ==?=t do "what it says on the tin"
Hi all,
In the UK we have an advertising slogan for a range of wood varnishes
and stains that says "it does exactly what is says on the tin". And you know
what ... They do!
This doesn't!
For months we have been eagerly awaiting a product that adds
synchronisation functionality to the Exchange server for Entourage because
that is what the Microsoft publicity said we would get. No qualifiers, no
caveats.
Yesterday it was announced early that what we had been waiting for would
be available at 4:00 pm UK time. We went and got it. We followed exactly the
installation instructions that we were given. It didn¹t work. I already had
IMAP e-mail connectivity. I have nothing now that I didn¹t have before. I
did what I was instructed to do and it didn't work. It is really that
simple.
At the very least, the read-me file that came with the installer should
have a system requirements statement that says that Exchange Server 2000 SP3
is required (If indeed that is the minumum requirement ... Who knows!). Then
I would have checked, realised that here we are using 5.5, and I would not
have wasted several hours doing an installation that would not work.
Or failing this, the support pages should tell us this at the high level
pages. I still can't find the information on the MS site. Infact the support
pages refer to the Office 10.1.3 Update not the 10.1.4.
This is just not acceptable. I hear what the MVP's say, and I am
certainly not having a go at them at all. I am saying that I do not have the
time to become an expert in the subtleties of the MS acronyms nor to trawl
through the MS web site to try to find information that isnt there. I am a
user trying to get a job done with a tool that claims to be able to do it.
But it doesn¹t ... Not as we were led to believe it would. Tag: JPEG in Signature Tag: 25484
Entourage X for Exchange - Public folders
For all those who are wondering how to get to Public Folders, may I suggest
that they read the Entourage Help area - there is a whole section in there
on all the Exchange features. An extract follows:
> Public folders Public folders of all types (messages, contacts, and
> Calendar items) stored on the Exchange server are not synchronized with
> Entourage. You may be able to view and use public folders containing
> messages if your Exchange account administrator has configured the Exchange
> server to display these using IMAP. For more information, see your Exchange
> account administrator.
I bet its not perfect, but there may be a solution if configured correctly.
There's also a lot of other very useful info in the Help area about Exchange
server - its still not detailed enough (which is not unusual for Microsoft)
and it doesn't tell you exactly what has to be enabled on the Server to get
everything to work, but there may be stuff that helps.
I'd also like to thank the MVPs for their freely given time. For those who
want to rant and rave, please don't do it here, do it at the Microsoft site
and give them the feedback. All you do by ranting and raving here is SHOUT
at us other poor souls who are also looking for help.

Palm Conduit 10.1.4 Problems
Earlier today I installed Office 10.1.4 along with the Palm Conduit
10.1.4. Later I opted to delete Office 10.1.4 since I was having font
problems when sending to an Outlook Express for Windows user (HTML font
encoding seems to have problems in that the font displayed on OE is very
small). Now that I've reinstalled Office and applied the 10.1.2 update,
I can no longer sync my Palm. During the hotsync it seems that the
Entourage conduit is being invoked, but no information is exchanged.
Also, I'm now unable to view the Entourage conduit settings in the
HotSync Manager. When you double click on conduit entry, the dialog box
does not open.
I'm desperate! Any clues? Tag: JPEG in Signature Tag: 25474
So far... here's what is working with exchange and here is what is not working
Email messages seem to sync up fine (which I must say is WONDERFUL
since I work on a laptop half the day and a tower the other half):
If I send a message from one machine, it shows up as sent mail on the
other machine. bravo.
If I receive a message on one machine, I receive it on the other.
bravo.
If I view a message on one machine, it shows up as viewed on the
other. bravo.
If I delete a message from my INBOX on one machine, it gets deleted on
the other. bravo.
*BUT* if I delete a message from my Sent Items folder on one machine,
it does *not* get deleted on the other. boo hiss. Is this a bug, or is
there any way to fix this.
Unfortunately, calendar and contacts are not syncing at all. In fact,
the calendar and contacts folders under my main exchange account
folder just look like email folders.
How is this supposed to work? Is there supposed to be a calendar and
contact folder inside my exchange account folder? How do I get
contacts into it?
I think like many people, I use a MAC even though my IT department
doesn't "support" it. Therefore, they aren't much help. Do I need to
enter the proper LDAP server for calendar and contact exchanging to
work? What is LDAP?
Any info would be greatly appreciated. I know this is new, but,
Microsoft doesn't typically release quick bug fixes, do they?

<no subject>
I just installed the Entourage update. The e-mail (IMAP) works very well -
sending and receiving. My calendar and contacts on my exchange account do
not synch with my computer. Any ideas? Tag: JPEG in Signature Tag: 25465
exchange minimum requirements...
I suspect that most of us who are having problems with the calendar
and contacts functionality after the Office 10.1.4 update are in
environments that use versions of Exchange earlier than (the minimum)
Exchange 2000 SP3. I believe (pending confirmation from my sysadmin)
that we're running 5.5 SP4. In a previous job, i think we used a more
recent version and with previous releases of Entourage, I at least
could accept/decline a meeting request, something I can't do now in a
different place of employment.
Has anyone gotten the calendar and contacts stuff to work with
Exchange 2000 SP3 and later? I don't quite understand why this is a
minimum requirement, when the classic version of Outlook (2001 and
earlier) worked fine with older versions of Exchange. Shame this was
not highlighted by MS-I think everyone was expecting things to worrk
reasonably well after this update and, while most are no worse off
than before, for many companies running 5.5 SP4, they are no better
either.
The fact is that a lot of firms run older versions of Exchange-they
are NOT going to upgrade just to please Mac users in many cases. Quite
a shame-almost as if MS figured this release might spur upgrades to
the latest version of Exchange. I hope that is not the case, but it
makes one wonder... Tag: JPEG in Signature Tag: 25451

I've seen a lot of people that have had issues with the latest update and

the more prevalent).

Entourage and Exchange Server?
I admit, I am a total clueless when it comes to Microsoft or PC's. I
am the owner of a small business with 8 Apple computers, all with

etc. to buy a PC, with Microsoft Windows and an Exchange Server? I

Is there a way when deleting messages to bypass the Deleted Items folder?
When I was using Outlook, I could bypass the Deleted Items folder by holding
down the shift key when I pressed the Delete key. I have a folder set up to

my Deleted Items folder, I just want them GONE!

Cannot rebuild Entourage database after update
I have applied the 10.1.4 Office update. Subsequently I wanted to
rebuild the Entourage database to see if doing so would resolved a
problem with my deleted items mailbox getting out of step. I got the
following message:
To rebuild the database quit all other Microsoft Office programs and try

I didn't have any other MS Office programs running. I tried logging out

cannot say for certain that this a result of the upgrade but I have in
the past been able to rebuild the database.

Office / Entourage X pathetic offering
What is up with this update? Microsoft has been promising for months
that the update due this summer would have Exchange functionality.
http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2003/Feb03/02-
11ExchangeSolutionPR.asp
I can't even think of a more pathetic excuse of a product update. I've
been using Entourage for months just for it's ability to send/receive
email via IMAP and SMTP. This update doesn't give me any more
functionality.
If this is really "The single most popular request we've heard since
launching Office v. X is that our customers need an Exchange solution
for Mac OS X ...," why did Microsoft even release this if it does not
work??? Tag: JPEG in Signature Tag: 25425
[ANNOUNCE] Google Problem
It appears that for some unknown reason, it is now impossible to post from
Google to many of the Microsoft newsgroups. If you try, you get a variation
on this: "Google Groups does not currently support posting to
microsoft.public.mac.office.word".
We have no idea why this is happening (nor does Microsoft) but perhaps we
can get it fixed if we all post to <groups-support@google.com> and ask for
an explanation and a resolution. Even if you don't access the newsgroups
via Google, you could help those users who do and there are many by
posting such a message.
Thanks to all who take the time to help.
Please note that you can bypass Google (or other web access methods) by
setting up Entourage or Outlook Express to act as a newsreader. Here's how:
1. In the Entourage (or OE) Folders list, click on the Microsoft News
Server icon. Click OK when asked if you want the newsgroups to download.
(If the Microsoft News Server icon does not appear in your folder list, see
here: <http://www.entourage.mvps.org/help/start.html#Anchor-newsgroup>)
2. Once the list of newsgroups downloads, use the "Display newsgroups
containing" box at the upper right to search on "mac" (no quotes). That
will bring up all the Macintosh newsgroups. The current Mac groups for
Office applications begin like this: microsoft.public.mac.office followed
by .word or .excel or .entourage, etc. Select a newsgroup you're interested
in and click Subscribe on the menu bar. The newsgroup will now display in
bold and you will also find it in the folder list below the Microsoft News
Server Icon. If you don't see it, click the arrow to the left of the server
icon to expand the list of subscribed newsgroups.

Exchange Synchronisation
Hi,
Anyone got the new exchange synchronisation to work yet?
The e-mail is working fine. The Calendar directory looks like an e-mail
folder, so instead of loading into the calendar, it comes up as if it were a
list of e-mails. Is anyone else getting this?
Cheers

Contacts on exchange server are being viewed as messages
I have just updated entourage to be able to connect to our exchange server
her at the office and all of the contacts in public folders are being
recognized as messages. Is there a way to tell entourage that a certain
folder should be viewed as contacts? The address book shows the contacts in
it fine, but I can't read the contact information in public folders at all.
Thanks,

Office X 10.1.4 "Update"
This update (specifically addressing exchange compatibility) is
disappointing to say the least. This "update" has less functionality than
Outlook 2001. My organization uses Exchange 2000 Service Pack 3 and with
this "release" we are still condemned to the use of Outlook 2001 for a Mac
client running OS X for everything else.
Microsoft Entourage X 10.1.4:
1. lacks the ability Windows Outlook has of retrieveing deleted messages
erased from the deleted items folder.
2. does not retrieve Calendar scheduling data properly, resulting in vague
Error messages.
3. does not allow the clients to make a change to their password.
4. does not allow clients to open Public Folders...Public Folders is a huge
resource in our organization. The public folder icon is present in the
mailbox, but with a padlock on it.
As administrator for almost 200 Macs in a corporate environment, I can't
overstate the dismay over this product. What changed between this and the
beta product we criticized for the same reasons. Tag: JPEG in Signature Tag: 25398
GAL not working
is anyone been able to gain access to the global address list. I believe =

"Upgrading" existing IMAP connection to Exchange
I'm having some limited luck getting the Exchange integration working.
One thing I would like is to be able to change or link an existing IMAP
mail address to an Exchange address. I'm currently on a slow connection
that will take a very long time to download my messages. Since they have
already been downloaded using an existing IMAP entry, I'd like to link
the existing account to a new Exchange account. Is this possible, even
if it requires editting files manually? Thank you. Tag: JPEG in Signature Tag: 25381

Connecting to Exchange
I just downloaded and installed the latest Entourage
version and am trying to connect to an Exchange server. I
have all of the user info. listed correctly, but it can't
connect. For the server, am I supposed to use the actual
server name or the IP address? Both haven't worked.
Thanks for any help!

Entourage calendar and exchange do not sync
I just installed the Exchange update for Entourage, and can't get the
calendar to sync. I have items in my Entourage calendar and would like them
to go over to the exchange server, and then setup items in Outlooks calendar
and they do not show up in Entourage except for when I go into the folder
for my exchange account I can see a list of calendar events, and the one I
added in Outlook shows up. It doesn't however show up in the calendar in
Entourage.
I have deleted and recreated the account twice now, so the settings should
be correct. Has anyone been able to get it to work?

10.1.4 overall works fine-receiving Exchange-based e-mail just as I had done
with Entourage before this update (via IMAP), although I now can see public
folders as well. So far, I have NOT been able to see other¹s calendars nor
view the global address book, but I suspect it requires more detail about
the LDAP server. Unfortunately, my network admin does not know of this, and
only knows the exchange server¹s address (which I know as well, since I get
my e-mail just fine.)
Any suggestions from those who have gotten this to work? Thanks!

MAPI support?
Downloaded and installed the Entourage update. I can access
my Exchange account easy enough, but can't send email
outside of my building. My Exchange administrator says it's
because I need to set up an account under MAPI (?) instead
of IMAP. Does the Entourage update support MAPI?
Thanks for any information.

cleaning the address, duplicated address
I'm using os10.2.3 with iBook.
I'm trying to find an easy way to clean up the duplicated address.
I've imported some addresses from a number of programme such as
Outlook and Palm and quite a few of the address are duplicate.
Can someone tell me if there was an easy way to clean up these

What's with the filters???
I give up with the junk mail filter. Things labeled "generic viagra" and
"make lenders compete for your loan skjdas" pass by as fine, but just
now, a reply from a friend who is IN MY ADDRESS BOOK was labeled as
junk. I have no idea what content could have triggered the junk mail
label--there was nothing that should--and as soon as I clicked "this is
not junk mail" the message listing changed color and category to the
"friends" status.

Problems receiving POP mail--Please help!
I'm trying to get Entourage X to retrieve my POP mail properly. Every
time I do a "Send and Receive," Entourage insists on retrieving ALL
700+ messages in the Inbox of my Web-based account, instead of just
the new ones. (When I did my very first "Send and Receive," I went
through the process of downloading all 700+ e-mails onto my local
computer. Doesn't Entourage realize that all those e-mails have been
received already? I even tried moving them out of the Inbox into a new
folder I named "Old Inbox", and Entourage still keeps trying to retrieve
them.)
Then, it throws ALL the mail from my Inbox into the Trash folder on my
Web-based account instead of leaving a copy on the server, like it's
supposed to.
(Under "Tools>Accounts" for this POP Web-based account I've set up
the Entourage options "to leave a copy of each message on the server"
and to "delete messages from the server" after they are deleted from
my local computer.)
Adding insult to injury: When I delete a received POP message from my
local computer, it doesn't delete that same message from my Web-
based POP account, like it's supposed to.
My settings must be okay because my local computer CAN send and
receive mail from and to my Web-based account; it's just not listening
to the preferences I set up under Tools>Account>Edit
Account>Options.
Why is it doing this? So obnoxious! Any ideas! Thank you!! Tag: JPEG in Signature Tag: 25354
Deleting Messages in Inbox
I've been using Entourage on the Mac for a few months. I had been using
Outlook on the PC for many years now. One of the things that is driving me
nuts, is that when I delete a message, Entourage automatically highlights
the message ABOVE the deleted message, and not the next message. Is there
anyway I can change that setting? Thanks for any help you can provide!

Form Mail data put into excel spreadsheet
OK, I need some help.
I would even be willing to hire someone to help me with this project.
I have a few forms set up on my web site, they use the basic formmail
script. The data gets e-mailed to me, I then respond to the e-mail, and file
the e-mail in a folder in Entourage.
Now I have a few thousand messages, and need to some how get this info into
a spreadsheet so I can keep that data. For example. One main form that is
used, which can be viewed @ http://LBDSL.com/availablity.html , has phone
number name, e-mail, address info. I need this info put into a spreadsheet.
I found a program called Mail Convert 2.5.4 on apple's web site that is
supposed to do the exact thing I want, but I can't get it to work. If some
one can even just get this to work for me that would be great.
Any help would be great. Thanks

go to File> Import and I get options to import information from programs I
don't run i.e. outlook express, qualcomm eudora, claris emailer or a choice
to import from a text file. one says 'Import messages from MBOX format text
file". i tried that and after following the folders > office 2001 identities
> main identity >...when i get to main identity --where my emai doc is...it
shows up empty. how do i get it to appear so i can choose it and import the
email?
or is there another way to import email. i really need it!!! HELP Tag: JPEG in Signature Tag: 25340
Responding in color
I notice that if I send an e mail and ask a bunch of questions some people
like to respond in between text in different colors.
I just tried this with someone who sent me a bunch of questions.
I made sure I was in html mode, and used the color selector.
The only problem was that every time I moved down a few lines to answer the
next question, the color reverted back to black.
Just seeing what are the best techniques for this.
Thanks! Tag: JPEG in Signature Tag: 25338
