Import PST file from Win Office 2003 to Mac Entourage 2008

Is there a solution for this? I want to import my Win Office 2003 PST file to Mac Entourage 2008.

I have to share my experience with moving PST files from the PC to MAC, from
Outlook 2003 to Entourage 2008.

I had problems, and Diane here made some suggestions. They were too hard, so
I decided to keep my windows laptop as an email machine, and remote desktop
to it from the MAC.

First, I had to upgrade my laptop from Windows XP Home to Pro. The upgrade
failed due to a license key error, and I had to reformat the hard drive. I
then reinstalled Outlook 2003 on the XP machine. Then when I tried to import
my PST backup, it said 'incompatible version'.

So, Microsoft managed to screw my laptop, and my outlook data even with a
backaup, and I never could import it to Entourage on the MAC.

Now I'm moving my address data to google, using only IMAP accounts, and I'm
completely moving all my business data off of Microsoft technologies. Enough
is enough. I don't trust Microsoft with my data anymore. Every version of
Outlook has been incompatible with the previous, to mention nothing of the
MAC vs PC fiasco, and the fact that Entourage is not really compatible with
Exchange, or outlook, or anything that I can tell.

Import PST Files





I have the opposite problem. I need to switch from Entourage back to Outlook.
How do you export the Entourage files to a pst file?

You can use "Outlook2Mac" program. Is very powerfull and cheap.

There is no direct way. You can export contacts as a .csv file.

I beleive that Outlook can handle MBOX files. You can export easily all
folders in Entourage as MBOX files with a script. You can also do this
manually. <http://www.entourage.mvps.org/video/mbox/index.html>

For MBOX files: Run this script on your messages: Export folders (this gets
subfolders too). The script will fail on a folder with corruption.

I had the same problem, but was migrating to Ent 2004. I don't
believe that there any differences with Ent 2008.

As Diane states below (BTW - she is really the best Expert on this
group), there is no direct way, but it really does work and works
well. Pay the $10 for the software from Little Machines and convert
the files into MBOX files and then use the Script to pull the MBOX
folders into your Ent 2008 database. The most time consuming aspect
is that you have to match up folders so you have to create new folder
names with your MBOX files so that Ent 2008 can properly pull them
into the database.

If I can find some of my original research on all of this I will send
it to your email address directly.

Depending on the size of your files and how much the folder
configuration varies from your Outlook to Ent 2008, I would plan on 4+
hours of your time, but since I had thousands of emails to transfer it
was well worth it.

Hugh,

I'm sorry you have had so many problems. I can assure you that
Diane's suggestions are not too hard and with the purchase of the
Little Machines software the process, while a bit time consuming, is
not difficult. I would definitely say that it is no more challenging
that what you are going through with software upgrades and migrations.

Gmail is not an option for me since I have my own website and domain
for my email. While Entourage 2008 is far from perfect, it does have
some features that Outlook does not and in general it does the job.

In my perfect world the Apple Mail product would be able to do
everything that Outlook can do and that would be my perfect solution.
My biggest regret in migrating to Mac's is that I have not been able
to be 100% Apple or Universal Binary software. I still have to use
other products such as Office for Mac and Entourage.

One other possible option for you however is something that I did for
one client of mine. Their configuration for their Exchange Server was
so convoluted that I could not get it to work on Entourage no matter
how I tried. As it turns out the problem was not my software, but
their VPN tunnel software which does not have a version for Mac OS/X
Leopard.

I ended up installing VM Ware Fusion and Outlook 2007 on top of
Vista. It works like a charm. Of course you don't have to run
Vista. VM Fusion will operate almost any other operating system
including Ubuntu, Linux, XP Pro, etc. VM Fusion is an awesome product
and works beautifully. I highly recommend it if you are adamantly
opposed to making all of the changes to adapt to the Mac environment.
