Hi..Help...

I had sync services working fine the other day, where Entourage and
iCal were in sync with fairly instant updating from either side. For
some reason, it stopped happening. I turned off Sync Services for
Calendar in Entourage prefs, deleted the "Entourage" calendar from
iCal, and restarted Sync Services for Calendar in Entourage prefs. I
checked Entourage updates Sync Services, closed prefs and
then...nothing. My iCal doesn't seem to update with a new "Entourage"
calendar. What am I doing wrong? Is there a way to force
synchronization manually? There doesn't seem to be much way for user
intervention to happen. Can someone explain what the sync schedule is
between Entourage and "The Truth"?

Have you tried creating events in either iCal and Entourage and seeing if
that kicks-off the sync process?

I'll give it a shot. Do I have to create an "Entourage" calendar
manually in iCal or should that just happen automatically? Also, what
is it that kicks off the sync process? Is there no surefire way?

FWIW, I've had my Entourage -> iCal sync do the same thing. Worked
initially, then stopped after I quit iCal. I also developed the problem
where the calendar list disappears from the upper left corner pane.
Tried blowing away the iCal Entourage calendar (after first turning off
sync in Entourage), then turning on sync again. Again it worked
initially, then stopped sync'ing. Something is definitely not right
with this feature.

There's a discussion on MacFixIt about disappearing iCal calendars (
http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20060207074628694 ). It does not
appear to be limited to Entourage's syncing--just more prevelant.

Syncs are supposed to happen automatically as iCal or Entourage notify Sync
Services of changes. If it appears that syncs aren't occuring, there's a
breakdown somewhere between the apps and Sync Services. Your best bet is to
make modifications and trigger new notificaions to Sync Services from either
iCal or Entourage.

I tried what was suggested in the MacFixit article, and it seems to have
worked. We'll see if it holds for a while...

Thanks for the tip.

Well, technically, according to the ³Basics of Sync Services² article on the
Entourage MVP site, Entourage has nothing to do with iCal ? iCal is just an
application that uses Sync Services. Unfortunately, iCal seems to be the
only way ³window² into Sync Services data. For example, I noticed that the
iCal Entourage calendar stopped syncing; however, data was still being
synced to my Treo. (Another oddity: iCal seems to launch itself without
warning, and then hangs.) Until more OS X apps make use of Sync Services
directly, many of us will have to live with iCal and Address Book.

Is there a way to view the master Sync database to confirm validity?
